"What brought you here?" I asked the handsome young prisoner sitting on the ground of the royal dungeon.
He sobs, unable to look at my face, his hand covering his eyes. "I didn't do anything. I told my father his reign was over as he had ruled over sixty years…" He breaks down again.
"How many years have you been here?"
"This' three years now." I couldn't control my tears, I wept for this lovely guy, he was so handsome to be in prison especially as he did no wrong. He said his father had ruled for more than sixty years, and still refused to hand over rulership to him. Sixty years was the permitted tenure for all wolf kings, I knew his father personally. He was such a good king till his Luna died and he married a second wife. Pandora is a hybrid, one thousand years old. I wondered what would've attracted him to a witch and vampire aside from her striking beauty. She is a cold, evil and wicked creature who has made life miserable for the werewolves for over three decades.
"Would you love to get out of here?" I asked the prince thoughtfully, my mind told me there is no way he wouldn't love to but he was afraid.
"No, I….." He was short of words and tears streaming down his eyes like a river. It was my first time seeing a young man crying this way. "I'll be directly on the path to my death." He muttered and I was shocked.
"What?" I screamed. My chest beat heavily with anger. I was determined to get revenge on this evil wicked queen.
"Tell me plainly, who brought you here and why?" The guards that were standing over were amazed, my companions afraid. They feared Queen Pandora instead, her action if she heard what I was saying but I wasn't afraid either.
"You should know," he replied coldly. "I don't want to incur the wrath of the queen further."
"Sorry, what do you mean?" I shook my head in disbelief. "You mean you'll let fear stand in between your chances of getting freed?" I shrugged my shoulders in disbelief, this woman has made a god out of herself among the werewolves. Though her husband the king has mated with her on several occasions, she refuses to take up the werewolf nature. Such a mysterious creature! No one was happy to have a vampire, the greatest enemy of the wolves ruling them but none had a choice either. Pandora succeeded in charming the king with her evil powers to listen to her, right now she's the one in control of the entire wolf kingdom consisting of three thousand packs. I was determined to bring down this evil queen, no matter what it takes and make sure Prince Douglas assumed the throne, he's the favorite of everyone who loves good things.
Being the winner of the Miss Wolf, I had almost equal powers with the real Wolf Queen. I was also addressed as 'Wolf Queen' except that mine was acquired while Pandora's came as a royal right, because she was married to the king. Pandora had succeeded in winning past queens to herself, causing them to keep mute concerning the ills that were going on in the society, among the werewolves which she was the major cause. She tried this with me when I became the winner.
I knew she wouldn't support me in taking her step-son out of the prison but I had to do this. I can't keep quiet and let this gentle prince continue to rot away in prison. He has no one to speak for him, but I'm here to speak for him.
When I was crowned Miss Wolf, I chose prison service as my area of target. My predecessors focused on areas like women empowerment, the girl child and similar areas. I was inspired to choose a different field, all I did was for Douglas. If I can rescue him and he gets to rule on the throne, suffering, poverty and torture would end abruptly. It would be a thing of the past. One great enemy lay in the way of achieving this, Pandora, yet I'm not deterred.
"Do you know I have the power to get you out of here Douglas?" I added his name so he knew I had authority, normally no ordinary person would address him as such. 'Your Royal Highness' was his title and even his jailers addressed him this way.
"It's not me getting out of here that is the issue, I'll gladly welcome that but it's where I'll go. The queen will find me and that will be my death." As he was speaking a soldier entered the cell room, he looked like one that carried a heavy message that would shake the whole universe.
"Queen Cassandra, Her Royal Majesty, the Wolf Queen orders you to leave the presence of Prince Douglas right now." I frowned in disbelief. Which normal queen would interfere with the activities of a crowned queen. A luna and a pageant queen, according to the Supreme Laws of the Wolf Council have almost equal power. Also according to the law, no one, not even the royal queen, is permitted to interfere in my duties, the king not being an exemption.
"Hello, where is she?" I wanted to realize how Pandora knew I was talking with her step-son. Could it be the attendants of the prison that informed her? A thought flew into my mind and I recalled she was a hybrid, a witch who had the ability to see what's going on in any area that concerned her. She must have that instinct that someone is attempting to rescue her royal prisoner.
"She knows what you're doing right from her castle." The soldier replied me.
The castle was far away, the royal dungeon was located in the cave under the mountains some kilometers away.
I have to block her from knowing what I'm up to least she would destroy my plans and future ones. I have to do this immediately. Leaving the cell Douglas was, I intended doing this but those around me thought it was heeding to Pandora's order.
"You're leaving me?" Prince Douglas cried stretching out in hands, he really needed help I could see but was reluctant to admit for fear of the queen. Such a handsome young man needed to be married, with a family of his own and a great life but here he was in prison wasting his years. It wasn't his fault either, he had been placed in the situation by his wicked stepmother who didn't want to see him ascend the throne. Because of this I felt like fighting to death just to save him.
"Don't be dismayed, I'll come right back for you." I hurried out with my companions, some of the members of my pageantry foundation, who followed after me. We got into the Bugatti La Voiture Noire I was gifted and the driver drove away at a terrific speed.
"Go to your office and wait for me." I gestured to three of my companions when the car pulled up in front of the big glass house of my foundation 'HPP'. It is interpreted to mean Help for Persons in Prison. They were shocked contemplating what I was up to as they stared at me with wide eyes. "Do as I say!" I repeated and they hurried off towards the building but one remained staring at me in fear and surprise. "What are you up to, Your Majesty?" Eva, one of my staff asked. She was the only one I was really close to, I treated her as a friend and sister but others I treated for who they were, my staff. Familiarity I felt would diminish my respect. "I need to go see the queen now." "Why?" She asked, her gaze laced with terror and mouth open. "Eva I need to do this," I said with firmness. "You're putting yourself at great risk, the queen can hurt you. Even if she may not be able to harm you physically, she can do that otherwise. You know she has evil powers. She is a hybrid but yo
**Three years ago** The sun is already shining on the horizon. I get out of my bed with my fairy mates all around me, each doing their duty. I moved over to the window, pulled aside the golden curtains and peered through the window. It was almost dawn. The birds are chipping, some are flying in groups under the sky as I watch from above. I think, they're journeying to go get breakfast. In my celestial home, and as the moon goddess I could watch everything that is going on in the world. I observed one thing, my children, the werewolves are encountering a lot of challenges in the hands of their new queen, Pandora. "Hey, come here Lucinda." I waved to her and in a twinkle of an eye, she came close by, standing at my side. "Look!" I pointed, she obeyed. We could clearly see the world from our celestial habitat. The palace of the great king, the king of the werewolves was our focus. "Your Majesty, this is so bad. You've to do something about this." "We have to do something about this
Douglas POV I get in to be with my dad, the king in his royal chambers, the part he entertained visitors. Even though I'm his son, I had to keep with the protocol. He had instructed me to dress corporately each time I came to see him and that, I did. Thank goodness, the queen wasn't around, I could have a heart-to-heart conversation with my dad without worrying about avoiding words that could hurt her. I wondered where the queen had gone to and why. It was unusual for her not to be beside the king. Pandora was always with the king, if not convincing him to agree to her sinister plans, she would be scolding him if he didn't do what she asked. She was a devil in human nature. "Why do you keep asking to be king, why don't you let me rule my subjects in peace?" "Dad, you've already ruled for over sixty-years, it's due for you to transfer the mantle of leadership to me. I'm of age or don't you want me to be king?" He gave me a suspicious look, I'd have been afraid if not that he was
When the prince fell, Pandora gestured to the guards to get him up. She felt that he was pretending to be sick because of what was happening. "Get him up quickly," she commanded in her thick, fiery voice, her bloodshot eyes darkened. One of the guards struck Douglas a blow right in the face when they pulled him up to rise up but he didn't. Lucinda, my PA hid her face in shame and horror. It was a sickening sight, tears escaped my eyes. "What're we gonna do about this?" I asked her but she was so affected by what was happening to look at my face or even answer me. I wrapped my hand around her shoulders in comfort. "Don't worry, everything will be fine. I'll do something about this!" I tried to comfort her with these soothing words. A swollen spot appeared where Douglas was struck. He was truly unconscious. "Call the pack doctor to come drive him to consciousness, I want to see as his beloved is done away with." A loud sinister laugh followed, my eyes turned golden. I was truly annoye
DOUGLAS POVMy heart is broken as the guards lead me out of luxury, my rights as the wolf prince and privileges of a future king to the dungeon as Pandora ordered. I have no say in this case and I don't know what would happen to my love, Nancy. She's my world, life and everything. I don't know if I would ever get to see her again. Now my world comes crumbling, would it ever bounce back?Today I had woken up to a bright day, hoping to be successful in my quest when I got to meet my father, little did I know that I'd be in such a condition. A tear stream down my face and I quickly wiped it off with the back of my palms. The guards lead me to their hilux van at the edge of the lane that leads from the castle to the field. One of them is already opening the back door for me to get in. Few hours ago, I was the respected prince, but now a cared-less-about prisoner with a bleak future. This might be the last time I'll ever set my eyes on this beautiful place I'd always called home even afte
CASSANDRA POVInside the room with the queen, I felt all the hatred and anger I'd bottled inside me for years resurfaced. Pandora could see the vengeance in my eyes, her eyes turned bloodshot in anger as I confronted her. A war was set to begin between both of us. "Why would you let your stepson be in prison for three years without caring to release him? What has he done to you?" I asked in an angry tone with serious hate in my eyes."Why do you care, is he in any way related to you or what makes you think you have the authority to confront my decision?"I got puzzled at how Pandora would dare speak with me that way. "Do you know who you're talking to in such a manner?" "Who cares? Are you not the crowned wolf queen, should that make you feel right to interrupt with my authority in this kingdom? Let me warn you for the last time," she said with so much seriousness. "If you don't learn to mind your business and stop meddling in my private affairs, I'll make you join Douglas at the du
When I arrived at my apartment, the glass residential house at Matama Estate, ten kilometers from my Foundation's residence, I went straight to the bathroom to wash myself. The sun has been so hot and I needed a cool shower as it was getting to noon. Eva emerges from her room and steps in front of me. "Glad you're back. Hope you weren't hurt? What happened at your encounter with the queen?" She was so anxious to know what went on between us. I mean no true friend would care less. "Nothing really, I'll inform you later. I need to take lunch. I'm really tired." I was exhausted actually and I needed rest. Eva knew I'd loved to be left alone at this moment. "So can I bring in your food from the kitchen?" I nodded to her enquiry. She turned to leave while I continued to my dressing room. Eva wasn't only my staff at the foundation but a close friend, she's the one I shared most of my life experiences with except the spiritual, who I was. That's a no-no.After work, she comes home to my l
"When I arrived at the palace, there were so many guards at the gate, staff all around and even at the castle where the king and queen reside but I got past them." I began. Eva's eyes fixed steadily to me like she was the accuser in court paying attention to the verdict of the judge which was me in this case."So how did you get past them?" She asked with a frightening gaze and her face shaking in terror."What do you mean?" I joked. "Do you play with me?" She smiled."I know you're a shifter but like, come on, tell me how you did that." Eva urged."Whatever!" I gestured with my hands and burst out into laughter. "You haven't really told me anything." I knew she wanted to discover how I passed through the heavily secured residence of the king and queen without being obstructed by the security personnel who are permitted to let only those with passes in. She was earnest to know this."Well, you seem too curious." I decided to place Eva in a little suspense before I told her what happ
I packed a few of my clothing which I'll need for my stay at the capital city, that's what the location of the famous palace of the wolf royalties is called. This location also hosts the wolf council, which is the shifter's court. After my meeting with Pandora concerning the court case, I would most likely meet the king too although he doesn't have any say especially now that Pandora has taken administration of the whole kingdom. He's something you might describe as a weakling husband who keeps quiet even when his wife does something wrong, he can't speak up as the king.Pandora is the head of the royal house, family and kingdom, in the actual sense, King Morris is just bearing a name. She's the one I have to meet in this case. Happy that Douglas has agreed to accompany me, I really need him."You have to pack your clothing…" I was cut short of my words, as he snapped."I don't have anything except this cloth I'm putting on." Pity overwhelmed me, I felt really bad for Douglas. This' n
The golden rays of the sun woke me up, and I sprang up immediately. It's late, I had desired to wake up at 5 AM and prepare. Before the sun showed up like this, it would be between 7 AM to 8 AM. I was as good as I thought, it's 8:05 AM. I gasped with my eyes wide open. I didn't realize that Douglas was watching me all this while. "Good morning my lady," the sweet voice caught me from my drama. I turned my head, there he was lying on the bed with his dreamy blue eyes watching me like I was a cinema movie. I smiled with a little shyness over me."Good morning prince," for the first time I was inclined to address him as this. He blushed in great excitement. "Do you care for a morning kiss?" He asked and I got more puzzled. Where is Douglas driving to, does he really mean all this nice attitude or he's just pretending to get what he wants? Despite the fact that I had the capability to distinguish when one is lying and when the truth is said, the emotions from this new character of his m
"Don't be scared of my reaction, say what you want to say." These statement made me bold to confront my fears and speak up. I stared deeper into Douglas' eyes for confirmation, his deep blue eyes which are thick with interest at this point. I wonder what came over him in the day and what has come over him tonight to make him change his mind and treat me so kind."You know I have a mission to fulfill in the world, first I need to get you out of prison absolutely and second I wish to re-organise everything that has gone wrong in our world. Being the luna queen would give me the best opportunity to effect the wish of the moon goddess." I threw a quick glance at his face to watch his reaction."The luna queen to me is not something to be chosen but centered on a fated mate but we are not fated mates, how's that gonna work?" He asked calmly. I tried figuring out the best answer to give him at the moment, an answer which would wipe off his doubt and make him accept my request."I am talking
I returned at about 11 PM late into the night, Douglas was in bed but quite worried to sleep. I could see by his face that he was anxious. "Why did you stay out so long?" Normally I would be angered at this question of his, feeling that he had no right to ask me that but I've learnt to quietly avoid unnecessary squabbles."I told you earlier, I was out with friends." I replied in a gentle tone, I was polite but this doesn't mean if he says or does anything foolish I wouldn't react. I just want to focus on the important things that lay before me. If I enter into a conflict with him now, the conversation which I scheduled with him tonight might possibly not hold. In life, you need to learn to act wisely and that's how I've determined to be."Well, welcome!" I'm amazed at his kind attitude, he has been rude and ungrateful during the day. Hope this' not just temporary, I just wish he sticks to this my mission would be very easy. All I want from him is him by my side. If he doesn't I would
It was 6:17 PM when we arrived at the park. We chose Cresthills Park and Game Reserve as our destination. It was a favorite in the northern part of Vienna where we resided. The park was located in the hill town of Reshford, the land where it was situated was massive like a whole city itself. The atmosphere here is chilly and the wind is refreshing.I stopped my car at the garage in the pack, got out with my friends to go sign in at the registration center. It's compulsory to document each individual that visits the park, the time of visit and places to visit in the site. It was optional if you needed a tour guide, first timers ought to have this as they weren't familiar with the environment but I don't need one. Not really like I intended visiting here, I just need a quiet and secluded place to discuss my plans since Douglas is too eager to let us have our conversation in peace. I feel that I need to take a quiet break from my usual life and chill out with my ladies. From tomorrow, I'
It is cool and calm this evening, the type of atmosphere I really love. Douglas is by this time in our room, the room he woke up in which is my bedroom, he had later tried to make me speak out what we discussed at the library. He was so eager to know but I wouldn't tell him neither any of my ladies-in-waiting. He still persisted in me calling him his majesty or Prince Douglas to which I firmly opposed. I felt bad at this, the first opposition I encountered was from the person I came to save. I feel so bad at this even till now.The book in my hand is a constant encouragement to me. The major character in the book is an eighteen year old girl who has no one to call her own, her mother died at a tender age. She was raised by her father, when she was eight, her father remarried and the stepmother came into their family with her three children. She was treated as a stranger in her own house, her step brothers and sister treated her like trash, an object of humiliation in the house where s
"Eva, you must have known much about your former mistress, the wolf queen, Cassandra?" She nodded 'a yes.' "And what she came to the world to enforce?" Another 'yes' came. "Good! That's the same mission I'm here to enforce but we need to be more tactical and efficient to avoid ending the way she ended or even worse.""There's great sense in what you say, Emily." Zoey snapped."My dream, which is my mission, is to partner with the prince so I can better work out my aim of driving Pandora out of the throne. Before I go into this, I need to start with the imprisonment issue. Douglas has been in prison custody for several years now without anything said or done about his case. I'll use this basically and other crimes committed by Pandora to portray her in the black light. Any suggestions?""Yes, I have my lady!" Eva said."Remember Emily," I joked. She smiled and nodded. "What's your suggestion Eva?""I guess we should compile a list of the most tedious crimes she has committed with Dougl
Emily POVI decided to leave Douglas alone after several instances of trying to make him accept my request of a contract marriage. I really wonder how I'd get to achieve my mission if I don't have any meaningful relationship with him. The law wouldn't permit me to do certain things that concern him if I'm neither his relative nor legal spouse. I'll continue my persuasion later. I go down to meet my two ladies-in-waiting, Eva and Zoey. I really need to go and see the luna queen today or tomorrow ahead of the court case in two days time. I have to talk with her and secure a legal release for Douglas, otherwise it would be assumed that he was stolen away, if this happens, he might be re-arrested and convicted. "Hello Zoey, where's Eva?""She's down." Zoey pointed down, I walked past her by the staircase to go meet Eva. I changed my mind."Go call her for me. Tell her to meet me in the Conference Room." It's a room I created in my residence for issues like this when I came two days ago.
Douglas POVEmily walked off to the drink dispenser at the far end of the massive room. She took out a glass from below and obtained a yellowish drink from the dispenser, which I guess to be an orange juice or pineapple juice. She walked majestically towards me and offered the drink to me. At first, I wanted to decline. I wasn't raised to take food and drinks from strangers. "Take," she persisted. "You've been under my care for two days now, you think if I wanted to harm you, I wouldn't do that?" "Well, thanks." I stretched my right hand and got the drink from her and gulped it down at once. It was an orange juice, sweet and refreshing to my body and mind. I exhaled heavily, now I had life. "Thank you," I said once again. Emily took the glass from me and went to the dispenser, she carefully placed the glass under the dispenser at the part for used glasses. I think that will be washed later. She walked back to me and sat on the bed. "I have a great problem and I need your help in thi
