Author’s pov

Mrs Williams was inside the house, sitting on the couch closer to the television. It was late noon and there was an empty bottle of wine close to her feet. She looked very sober and her eyes were almost closing. She rested the back of her head against the headrest when she heard the sound of a car entering her compound.

“Is that Jasper?” She thought. From where she was sitting, she stretched her body and saw that it was her daughter, Merit. She relaxed herself again and waited for her to come inside. Mrs Willaims couldn’t tell why it took her daughter an unusual length of seconds for her to come out of the car and enter the sitting room. Despite the delay, her mum didn’t try to look outside again, but her eyes were focused on the entrance door.

“Where are you coming from?” Mrs Williams thundered. The way she sounded startled her daughter and she stood still for a while and their eyes were on each other.
