Jasper was carried by Mrs. Williams' presence, striving to reassure her that inheriting 22% of her late husband's investments wasn't a setback or that she had lost her case against her late husband's sons. It took him about three days to persuade her after the case, to consider herself lucky. Being a young, energetic lawyer, he saw handling such a prominent case for a wealthy woman like Mrs. Williams as a privilege, especially since she had invited him. He was keen to maintain their connection, feeling unsettled by her evident unhappiness of getting such a percentage.

During those days, he found himself spending more time in her hotel room and even attempted to take her out, secretly hoping for a more permanent role in her life as her lawyer. In the midst of trying to win Nora's approval, Jasper didn't know he had neglected his fiancée. His communication with Anna dwindled to the point where he forgot to inform her of his arrival that day.
