“Tell me what you want me to do for you.”

“My father was killed. Murdered in cold blood like an animal that didn’t matter. I need justice for him.”

My mouth hung open for a couple of seconds because I was trying to think about what to say. I mean, this man knew who I was right?

“Mr Miller, I sympathize with you for your loss but I have to tell you that I am a corporate lawyer and I’m sure you must have known that before you reached out to me so I don't think I can help you with this. Perhaps I can refer you to someone else.”

He laughed.

“I knew that, Miss Everly. I wanted the best to handle my father’s case, and I knew that only you could do that so I reached out to you. I’ll pay you any amount you want. All I need is for you to find my father’s murderer.”

For the first time, I didn’t know what to say. As I stared at him, wondering whether he could hear what I was saying at all, the waiter came with the food. I’d lost my appetite though.
