Chapter 6
I needed not be told that they were loaded with cash. In no time the man walked to me and handed a white envelope to me. I hastily opened the envelope to read what had been given to me.I could not hide my excitement when I realized that I had been employed to work on three months’ probation from the next day. I went closer to salute the man.
Do you have any problems? He asked. I smiled and responded that I was ok. By 5:15 pm I was on my bed planning what to do tomorrow. I thought of washing my only jeans and my clock t-shirt so that I could start work with cleaned attire.I intentionally went to bed early so that I could have enough rest to start my new job. Surprisingly I could not sleep at all. By 5:00 o’clock in the morning, I had finished ironing my jeans. I thought it wise to get to the shop before my employers arrive.I succeeded because by 5:30 exactly I was behind the shop to meet the security guys. By 6 o’clock The beautiful woman I saw yesterday walked towards me. She didn’t greet me but rather asked if I was the new employee.I smiled and nodded. She handed over a bunch of keys to me to open the padlocks. They were about four stores. In no time I had finished cleaning.
Under the guidance and instructions of my madam, I was able to arrange some of the stocks outside the entrance. Actually, I did not know the significance of bringing some of the stock to the entrance of the shop but I was asked to do it.I was surprised that there was a queue. About five hours I was on my feet serving customers.
About a few minutes to mid-day I was exhausted so there was a chair near the entrance of the shop. I sat down to relax because there was no customer to serve. To my surprise, there was a heavy knock on my head. I suddenly turned to realized that it was my madam.I smiled as I looked at her face. She shouted at me to go and stand at the entrance to call prospective buyers and customers. I hurriedly jumped out of the chair and with my usual smile did what I was told to do.When it was some few minutes after midday she sent me to go to a nearby restaurant Nazareti to buy food for her. I was thinking that she would be lenient enough to add some of the money so that I could buy some of the food for myself.Surprisingly there was no surplus. The money could afford the type of other she asked me to make. She just sat behind the table and eat all the food. She didn’t even care to invite me.Though I was not thinking of joining hands to eat with her but for the sake of human manners it was appropriate for her to have invited me.
It was my first time to realize that women are fond of food. There is a saying that the youth of today always asked for more food than the adult. But I was contemplating if I could eat all the food I bought for her. It was so much. The spoon she was using fell from her hands. It made some noise. I, therefore, turned to look at her with a smile. She stretched her hands to make a signal that I should come. I thought it was my turn to eat so I didn’t delay at all. I smiled when I got closer to her.Chapter 7 Without warning, she raised her hand and gave me a heavy slap which forced me to retreat about three steps. The most annoying issue was that she slapped me with her dirty hand. I tried to smile but to my surprise, the smile was mixed with tears. I was stunned why she had to slap me. Nice BMW seven series stopped in front of the shop. The man who was interviewed yesterday alighted with a beautiful young girl of my age size. The glass window of the car was tinted so I couldn’t identify the one behind the steer. Unfortunately, I was caught with tears on my face. I tried to smile but the smile couldn’t cover the water, the leftover food, and tears on my face. The man greeted me and I nodded. I left them and headed towards the entrance. I heard the man asking why I was in tears. The woman said she slapped me because I was laughing at her. The daughter shouted, oh mom and the man said, that is his nature. He always smiles and does
Chapter 8 May was at the shop and she secretly handed a small piece of paper to me. I didn’t know why she decided to give it to me in secret. I put it into my pocket and bothered not to find out what was on the paper at the shop. I was confused why May, should give that paper to me in secret. Was it not a trap? The problem was that as soon as she gave the paper to me she just drove her car away. I didn’t ask her anything but I spied to find out if Lisa or Rosaline were not watching. Again another thought which surfaced was that I was not so close to May. I knew her because she was a classmate and a friend of Rosaline's. So if there was something at all it supposes to pass through the hands of Rosaline. Haven’t pondered on all these issues I made my mind that I was not going to do anything silly. I immediately left after the closing of work. As soon as I crossed the main road in front of the shop to the other end I picked up the paper f
Chapter 9 I tried to think fast if I could figure out what exactly she wanted from me. I asked myself why might she conclude that her deal might help both of us. I sarcastically concluded that it might be sex. Other than that what do we have in common that might attract both of us? I went upstairs to change my shirt. I could not finish when I saw that May, was calling. I picked the call and she said she had packed in front of the house. Without wasting much time, I walked majestically towards the car. Just as I sat inside the car someone shouted from behind. “Beautiful lady in a nice car with a poor handsome guy, what a combination”, May, asked who is that do you know him? I smiled as I nodded no. She asked shall we go? With my smile, I gave her a thump up. She started the engine and we left the scene. I couldn’t hide my infectious smile because I had boarded a nice car with a beautiful young girl. Zongo lane is always too clouded. I said
Chapter 10 I smiled and said it was a deal. I signed the document as she had already signed her part. Thank you there is a second thing I want us to do. She put white linen material on the table and put an empty glass on the material. She took a sharp knife slightly cut one of her fingers and to my amazement stretched her hand on the glass for four drops of her blood. I also did the same when I was asked to do it. She pours some wine into the glass and shook it. She took another glass divided it into two and placed the two glasses on the white material. She lighted three white candlesticks and placed them around the white material. She said this is a secret blood covenant between the two of us that no matter how painful treatment we will go through we will never reveal the secret of OUR MARRIAGE to anyone. Both of us shouted sure and took the glass and drank the mixture of the blood and wine. It was late so she dropped me at Zongo lane. After all,
Chapter 11 The next day early in the morning I went to greet her politely and handed over my resignation letter to her. The letter was neatly sealed in a white envelope. I saw her opened the envelope but I cared not to bother whether or not she was reading it. Rosaline asked that I picked few things from the wholesale. Without hesitation, I rushed for the stocks. I knew that was the opportunity for them to talk about the letter in my absence. I had a thought that no matter how hard the situation I would go through after I had given my resignation letter to them I have to endure it. After all, there is a saying that, it takes a man to swallow a bitter pill. After I had closed from work and had gotten home I took the book I had bought. What is the significance of buying this book? I couldn’t continue to join the karate group. I took the book and surprisingly a smaller booklet fell out of the martial book. I took it up and I was stunned by the writin
Chapter 12 I looked at her and asked with a smile do you chant or conjure? Yes, I conjure, I am not an ordinary person. Even My daddy is a conjurer and far above me. She just changed the topic as she said do you want to know more about antiques? I have read much about those books here but I need to read more. Don’t worry I will bring you a book tomorrow. My closing time was up. I thanked her and left. I didn’t waste time at all. My interest was to go home in time so that I could start reading the chanting book. Just as I entered my room I heard a knock on my door. Within three days about 8 people had come to me for financial support to start their small-scale enterprises. I couldn’t refuse but helped all of them. I opened the martial book took the chanting booklet with the aim to start reading. The first instruction just came up if you want to read open the booklet. I decided to open it and to my surprise, the book has increased in size by itself.
Chapter 13 When I realized that there was no help I began to shout on top of my voice for help. Somebody help me I am dying. Somebody help me I am burning. I felt weak and dejected. My eyes firmly closed. I could not stand the pains anymore. I knew that was the end of me. I fell down and pass out. I didn’t see or felt anything again. The following morning, I came back to my senses. I looked at the time and it was 5 am. I was supposed to go to work. I quickly entered the washroom. As I was bathing I began to recollect what happened to me. My heart troubled whether I still have access to that small book or it has got missing in that process. I breathed heavily when I came back to my room to see the small book lying on the martial book neatly folded. I was relieved and smile. I took the book and kissed it. With a gentle hug, I put the book down and immediately left for work. At 5:30 I was behind the shop waiting for my employers. I began
Chapter 14 Did you bring the antique appraisal book? I have to pack the stock my time is up. Anyway Rosaline do you know that today is my last day here. Tomorrow is a public holiday and I don’t think you would be coming right?. We are coming to our consignment will arrive tomorrow so we have to be here to make sure that the goods are properly arranged at the wholesale. Let’s come so that we can close before noon. What do you think? No problem I will be here at the normal time. I responded with my usual smile. After I had packed everything Rosaline handed over the antique appraisal book to me. I thanked her and I left. My phone started ringing I checked and it was Mayfair who was calling. Hello May, I responded passionately. How are you? She asked with concern. I am good and you. If I have not called, I don’t think you have bothered to call to find out how I am doing. Anyway, when are you coming so that I can pick you. Well, I will be g
