When I entered the restaurant, I was taken away by the ambience of the room and the sophistication it held. There was this air of both opulence and relaxation. The fairy lights around the room created a romantic aura and the low lighting helped to set a bit of a romantic mood. There were round table and tiffany chairs around the restaurant with white linen table cloths and scented candles. The place was bare though and customers hadn’t been let in yet but a group of beautiful ladies were leaning against the bar. They cheered when they set their sight on my brother and I walking in but I’m certain they weren’t happy to see but were happy to see my brother.

My brother revelled in the attention and he grinned from ear to ear, opening his arms wide in welcome and acceptance of the energetic greeting he received, "hello, ladies! My, you’re all looking so beautiful on this fine evening…" he drawled with a satisfied smirk as he looked over all of them.

In my opinion these women were not simply beautiful, they were drop dead gorgeous. It was obvious there was some standard of beauty that needed to be held in my brother’s restaurant and I most definitely did not meet it according to what I’m seeing. Each of the women had long luscious hair, their make-up skills seemed to far surpass mine and their bodies fit snugly into the black sequins dresses that all matched somehow.

I simply had my hair in a high ponytail and I was wearing a modest midi white dress with a pair of black ankle boots that would make walking around easier. I didn’t know that I had to put my best foot forward and dress like I was meant to have all eyes on me and for that reason I felt extremely insecure looking at all of these women.

"Ladies, I would love to introduce you to my…" he paused, pulling me from my hiding place which was behind his back, “I would love to introduce you all to my baby sister, Nyeleti,” some of the girls smiled at me, others just looked at me and I smiled shyly, looking at my feet, "Kelly, she’s your responsibility, make sure you teach her everything she needs to know," I saw a girl make a "call me" gesture to Jabu and all the girls laughed.

My brother simply grinned, "we’re opening in ten minutes, let’s make sure everything’s ready."

He pushed me gently towards a girl with deadlocks. The girl stood up and looked at me, eyeing me up and down before a smile broke through her face and she laughed, "my name is Kelly, and since I have to take you under my wing, I hope we can be good friends."

I wasn’t able to get over how beautiful she was. She had a darker skin tone, almost close to nutmeg and she had done her make-up in such a way that she glowed. Her lips were painted the perfect red and her eyelashes were long and dramatic. Her dreadlocks were pulled into a high ponytail and they reached till her lower back and the backless black dress clung onto her like second skin. She had curves in all the right places and her smile was bright, "well, I’m not really sure where to begin because it’s all really simple. Firstly, I would like to welcome you to L'Italia viene a Jozi," she had a slight twang in her English accent, that let me know that she must have gone to those posh private schools where 90% of the students are white, "co-owned by your brother, and a silent partner. We have a full house every night and it’s not uncommon to have tourists and foreign businessman that like the fact that this place reminds them of Italy. All you have to do as a waitress, is make sure that everyone’s happy with their food, the tables always have a full bottle of wine and champagne, and if the customer asks for a suggestion about what they should order, make sure you suggest the most expensive food items. The aim is to make the customer spend as much money as possible, do you understand?” I nodded, stiffly and she smirked.

"Let's get to work," she said as she flipped her hair and winked.

"How was your first day?" Kelly asked me and I groaned, massaging my feet as we sat outside on the sidewalk, besides my brother's car. She laughed, nodding her head, "heels are a bitch. Bitches that make you look sexy but kill you after a long night. Don't worry I'm going through the same thing right now."

Kelly was sitting with her dress ridden up past her thighs and she was flashing her panties, her heels were on the side walk and her eyelashes were long ago pulled off. I wasn't judging because I had taken off my bra and my heels were tossed somewhere out of sight.

"What a long night," I complained like I haven't been doing enough of that and Kelly laughed, nodding. I looked up at the sky, the sun was rising and it was only now that the restaurant closed.

"I'll see you tomorrow, baby girl," Kelly said to me as a Ford Ranger pulled up right besides my brother's car, "my boyfriend's here," she pointed at the van and I nodded, smiling and hugging her like we were best friends. I only met her a few hours ago and she was a cool girl who laughed at everything.

I watched as she skipped to the car with a new found energy and I shook my head with a smile on my face before I heard the sound of chains and I looked behind me to see Jabu locking up the shop.

"You done?" I asked him but he didn't reply. Instead he was just standing there, holding the lock in his hands. I furrowed my eyebrows and smirked at the genius idea to scare him.

I got up slowly yet quickly and began to creep behind him before I bit my bottom lip to stop from laughing and then placed my hands on his shoulders, "boo!" I exclaimed and he jumped but it wasn't the reaction I was expecting. I thought that he was going to be scared, but he wasn't. Instead he turned around fast and twisted my arm behind my back before his other hand wrapped around my neck throat and cut off my air supply.

I cried out in surprise and he jumped from me like I'd burnt him, "Leti!" He exclaimed, "what the fuck is wrong with you?" He shouted me but I stood there looking at him, shaking. "Don't you ever do that again. You're lucky I didn't have my gun on me,” he snapped, and glared at me before he stormed to his car and I looked down at my feet in shame and shock, before I sighed and walked to the car.

It was silent for ten minutes but I knew my brother and I knew that something was bothering him, "what's wrong, Jabu?" I asked him, speaking softly.

"Nothing," he grumbled out and I looked outside the window.

As he drove and I fell asleep in the passenger seat, both of us had completely forgotten that after I'd scared him, he hadn't put on the lock.

Now, again, Jabu did buy a bigger family home with four bedrooms and two bathrooms but our family home was nothing compared to the five bedroom five bathroom home. I was praying so hard that my current situation was only a terrible dream. I was desperate to convince myself that I was still fast asleep in the bedroom I had deemed to be mine from the very first moment I walked through Jabu’s home. I tried to convince myself that at any moment, I would wake up and be back in the safety of my bed and warm blanket, and I’d call my mum and dad and tell them about what I had dreamt of. Yet no matter how many times I tried to convince myself that this was all some terrible dream, my worst fears of Jabu’s newfound wealth and success were prove

It feels like a lifetime has passed and I’ve been kept in this hellhole all by myself. I stopped trying to convince myself that this was all a dream what felt like an eternity ago. I had tried holding onto that belief for so long. For nights on end, I convinced myself that when I opened my eyes I would be back in the safety of my home. I was even convincing myself that I must have met up in an accident and I was now stuck in a coma and this was some bad dream that would ultimately lead me back to life but that wasn’t the case.

"Somebody help me!" I kept screaming as I kicked the boot repeatedly, trying to escape, "no! Please, help!" I sobbed hysterically, unable to get the image of my brother's lifeless body, blood pooled around it as they dragged me away and threw me into the boot no matter how much I fought and screamed but they lifted me like I weighed nothing.

There was silence as he looked up at me and I raised the two guns that I had and aimed them at his head. He put his phone down but all I was looking at was his brown eyes, as he looked over at me."Ah, Leti," he said my name with confidence and question, like he was testing me and my patience."Surprised to see me?" I asked him as I glared at him, feeling powerful. He simply raised an eyebrow before he gave a slight nod, "I am...I really am," he just said as he leaned back even further into the seat, "you've...you've really outdone yourself.""Voetsek (piss off/fuck you)! I'm going to kill you," I spat, all of my self-control out the window as I looked at his calm and relaxed face and body language, "have you got any last words, bastard?"He blinked slowly, "I under

It was like the second we walked through those doors, Leonardo became a completely different person. He had a wide smile on his face and the stiffness in his shoulders was long gone. I was both confused and frightened because I'd never seen anything like it. Until a chubby little girl who can't be older than five years old screamed and ran towards him, her arms wide open as she squealed in delight at the sight of her father.I stood awkwardly and the guns hidden under the waistband of my jeans, felt like they weighed a ton. I felt like I was intruding on a private moment as I cleared my throat and watched as he ran his fingers through her long hair and she cooed in response, talking happily away to her father. He said something to her before he pointed at me, "this is my friend," he said to her and she frowned as she looked at me before a small smile appeared on her face, "her name's Leti."

Change is inevitable, we change every year, every month, every day and every second. You aren’t the same person that you were when you woke up this morning and you have either become a better person or far worse. In my case, I have become the worst version of myself. Perhaps not myself, but the worst version of a ghost- shadow, that I could be.

I wanted to make sure that I looked my best. I pulled out all of the stops for tonight. A long white and fancy dress with a slit that reached my upper thigh, letting my thick thigh escape through it. I purposefully crossed my legs, making sure to show more skin to drive Arrigo crazy. I had my wig straightened and laid flat against my head, my eyes smoky and dark to give me the look that I wanted. It worked like I knew that it would. Arrigo was a sucker for skin and sexual advances and that's what I kept doing. I kept moving my feet below the table, rubbing my high heel against his crotch as I listened to him promise me a passionate night.Arrigo had certainly pulled out all of the stops for this dinner. His large dining room was set up so lavishly and decadent with all sorts of food and candles; rose petals and sparkling wine, and all types of champagne. If I hadn't known that he'd killed my family, I would

You know, just the two of us," he told me as he walked up to me and planted a kiss on my lips and I let him.I closed my eyes and sighed, enjoying the way that he held me, "ok," I responded and he pecked me one last time before he walked out of the basement and I went back to emptying clip after clip.~That was an hour ago and I should have been making my way to my bedroom but I couldn't. I had to make a stop elsewhere.I looked behind me making sure that no one saw me as I walked to Arrigo's office and I opened the closed door sneaking into the dark office. I know I should be keeping my distance but Arrigo refuses to let me. I should be in my room, sleeping or watching some documentary, not in Arrigo's massive kitchen with Bennie and him, while dressed in pyjamas, laughing hysterically as we decorate cupcakes and cookies that the chef had made for this particular activity."Really?" Bennie asked her father as she looked at his decorated cupcake and cookie. We were playing this silly game where Arrigo and I had to decorate a cupcake and a cookie to the best of our ability and Bennie would be the judge of it.The winner gets bragging rights and one of Bennie's sashes."What is this?" she asked her father, standing with her hands on her hips as she peered down at her father condescendingly. The two were still sucking up to me and apologizing because even two days later my face was still marked. Of course it wasn't as dark as it was before, but it was taking way longer to come off even though I was bathing and scrubbing my face close to four times a day.I was milking their guilt though. Breakfast in bed, I don't have to lift a finger for anything in the house and Leonardo has dismissed me from doing any kind of work. So this is like the vacation I've always needed but never got the chance to ask for."It seems to be coming off a whole lot now," Leonardo said as he and Bennie watched me eat the breakfast that they brought for me. Yes, I call her Bennie now, because her full name is a mouthful and she seems to really like the nickname because even Leonardo is calling her Bennie so it's clearly catchy."You look a lot better," Bennie agreed with her father and I shrugged as I looked at the two, s

I would've told them I was awake but I wanted to see if they had the guts to do what they were planning on doing and it turns out, they do.I've been patiently lying here with my eyes closed and breathing laboured to make sure they believe that I'm fast asleep. I felt too bad to wake up now since they were both so excited to do this together.

I walked towards Leonardo's bedroom wanting to speak to him about my ammunition. I'd ran out of bullets yesterday morning and he hasn't replaced them and that to me is a very big issue because that hinders my training. I stood at his bedroom door hoping that I wouldn't walk into anything strange or R rated because I really just wanted to say what I needed to say and walk out.I pray he won't be in that sad mood, as much as I knew that I should let him be, he needs to man up. He's been locked up in his room for two days, he needs to pull his socks up and deal with what he did those years ago and let it go.I know that sounds rich coming from me, but how long will he hold this in? How long will he keep this burden of guilt? He should try to spend as much time with his daughter as possible and raise her to be the best that she can be.But hey, what do I know? I'm not i
