TAYA’s POV :

“So?” I asked cautiously. “What’s the verdict?”

Judah and I were seated on the floor, right in front of the coffee table. I was staring at his face, studying his reaction, and he was reading the college letter he just opened. All around us were ripped envelopes and scrunched up college letters. He had been going through almost all of the UC letters and Cal State letters, and so far, they were all rejections.

“Another one bites the dust,” he sighed and scrunched the piece of paper in his hand into a ball before tossing it carelessly to the ground.

“We’ll get something,” I said as I put a hand on his knee.

“At this rate, I don’t even think community colleges will take me,” he shook his head and raked his hair in frustration. Judah had just read over ten letters of rejection. And even though some of them were expected, getting rejected by something was always hard.

“They will. There’s no way they won’t,” I said reassuringly. Community colleges had about 100 percent ac

TAYA's POV : I had to do a double look to make sure that it was in fact Blake Harrison, standing right in front of me. In front of Judah's house out of all places. I was so shocked to see him, but the craziest thing was that he wasn't even surprised at all to see me. It was like he was already expecting me to be there. "Hey," he said calmly. "Uh... hi,” I stammered. I looked around to see that he was alone. Judah and his bike was already gone. “W—what are you doing here?" "I came to find you,” he replied. “How’d you know I’d be here?” “I was following you, all through the town," he explained, pausing for a beat as he said, "Can we talk?" "Following me all around town? That's kind of creepy, Blake," I narrowed my eyes at him and held onto the door. "No, actually that's just plain creepy," If Blake was trying anything funny, I was ready to slam the door shut at any moment. But he wasn’t doing anything. He just let out a sigh and said, "Yeah. I guess you can say I'm desperate. I

BLAKE’s POV : The first time I heard that I might have brother was when I was seven years old. My little sister, Stephanie, was only three, so she didn't know what was happening. Mom and dad would argue day and night about it, and I’d give Stephanie my headphones so she could listen to some music. Meanwhile, I sneaked out of my room and hid by the stairwell to hear what they were arguing about. “That kid is an abomination to our family’s good name!” mom spat angrily. “You need to do something, James, or you’re gonna lose us,” “Well, what do you want me to do?” dad groaned in frustration. “You need to get rid of them,” “How?” he scoffed. “He’s not a fucking baby, the boy is seven years old,” “Seven years?” mom shook her head and raised a hand up. “He’s as old as our Blake. So it’s been going on for that long?” Dad opened his mouth as if he was about to speak, but he stopped himself. Meanwhile, my mom started wailing and crying. Dad let out a sigh and pulled her into his arms, mu

TAYA's POV : My head was spinning as Ava's words and stories wouldn't leave me be... "We all know that James Harrison owns half the island. He's got a monopoly on all the businesses here and Max didn't like that. James wasn't even from Hawaii. He moved in here and he started buying out lands, establishing big businesses, and driving out small local shops. Max hated it, especially when Castro's was starting to get hit. Max had been plotting his schemes to take down James Harrison for as long as I could remember. But James is the most powerful man on the island, there was no way a small-time criminal like Max could get to him. But that all changed when we met Judah," As she was talking, I could picture it happening in my head. Judah came back after years of being away from Hawaii and he met up with Max, the one guy that took his side when nobody else did. "What Max did was pretty shitty. But I've done some pretty shitty things too. And at the end of the day, we have each other's bac

JUDAH's POV : I didn't remember much about my childhood. The memories came in and out. Sometimes they came in flashes when I least expected it. Sometimes they came to me in dreams. Some were really nice dreams. While others were what you call a nightmare. I remembered this one time when I was little, my mom and I lived in a small house near the beach. I remembered hearing the sound of waves in the morning, and the smell of the ocean was so thick. "Daddy, look what I made," I was five years old. I just finished building my first Lego bat-mobile and I couldn't be more proud. I was running around the house in excitement, couldn't wait to show it off. "That's great, son," dad said with his back turned to me. He was hunched over a working table, drawing and scribbling down a bunch of writings on a large piece of paper. I stole a peek and I noticed that he was drawing something that looked like a house. "Jaden, come here, daddy's trying to work," mom said as she picked me up and car

TAYA's POV : "You're dead to me!" Judah growled as he lifted the gun in his hand, aiming straight for his father's heart. There were so much anger and hatred in his eyes. All that bitterness that he was harboring finally took its toll on him. Meanwhile, Mr. Harrison could only look up at his son in fear as he begged for his life. "Jaden, please, I never meant to hurt you. I... love you," "Love?” Judah scoffed mockingly and the gun clicked. “Nice try, but you're dead to me," Mr. Harrison was shaking in terror. He knew his time was up. With a cold and stoic look on his face, Judah pulled the trigger. "No!" I screamed. And all of a sudden, I wasn't watching Judah aim the gun at his father's heart anymore—he was aiming the gun at me. At my heart! * BANG! * The loud booming voice echoed in my ear and I jerked up immediately. I thought I'd have fallen to the floor or something, but the next thing I saw was my bedroom wall and that I was sitting on my bed. It was just a dream... On

TAYA’s POV : As I was making my way home from Judah's house that night, I was missing him more and more. I couldn't stop myself from replaying the words he said on our last conversation and thinking about what he was doing out there. I knew I wouldn’t be sleep anyway, so I decided to go to town. It was past 10 PM and I was back to the dark and familiar alleyways towards Castro's. The guys at the door took one look at me and they knew that I wasn't twenty one. As they were glaring deadly glares at me, I knew better than to try getting in. But, luckily I spotted the bouncer guy that I met before and he seemed to remember me as well. I went over to him and asked him to get Ava to come out. He was annoyed to see me at first, but I gave him twenty dollars and he became much more cooperative afterward. "Any news?" I said as soon as Ava slipped out the back door. She was wearing a black cropped t-shirt and ripped skinny jeans. In her mouth was a lit cigarette and her red hair was tied in

TAYA's POV : “Start talking,” he ordered bossily. “Now!” "Ryder!” I snapped back. “You promised you won't get mad," "That’s before you told me about you dating — hold the fuck up here. What the hell? Who says that you can date? And Judah? The motorcycle kid from Thanksgiving?" "It's cool Ry, daddy says it's all right," I argued. Ryder let out a scoff and threw his head back. "I fucking knew it,” he muttered. “That kid fucking did it. I knew it," "You knew what?" "And your dad's really cool with you guys dating?" "Well, he's coming around..." "No way he is. No fucking way," Ry shook his head. "Ryder Jake Williams!" I scolded, "I am a grown woman. I don't need you or daddy to run my life for me. I can decide these things on my own," "Yeah? And how's that working out for you?" he was probably referring to the fact that I almost got myself killed in a dingy alleyway behind a strange bar. Again, well played, Ry. "You just happen to catch me at a really bad time. But honestly,

If I were telling her this face to face, she would have gone all physical and started smacking my head, claiming that I had lost a few bolts. Thankfully though, it was over the phone "It means I'm not going," I repeated myself. "But... it's the prom!" "I know it is," It was the morning of the prom and I couldn't be less enthused. I kept checking for news about Mr. Harrison and nothing came up, so I'd assume he's still alive and well. That was a good thing. Judah going rogue must mean that he knows what he's doing. But still, Judah couldn't be reached and I had given up all hope that he would be back for the prom. And so, I called Hallee up and I told her that I wasn't going to leave the comfort of my room today. Sorry prom, but you're canceled, I said to myself as I glanced at the long golden dress hanging on my bathroom door. "But Tay, we got our dresses. We re

Plus, we didn't have any money for gifts or holidays. Usually, she’d work through Christmas, and I’d get high and pass it by.But not this year. This year would be our first Christmas together, Blondie and I. We went back to Hawaii for Thanksgiving, as we promised our friends, but we were staying in California for Christmas. Plane tickets were expensive and Blondie wanted to stay here and rehearse anyway. That’s right, my very own Blondie was chosen as the lead role for UCLA’s upcoming production of Romeo and Juliet. That's fucking sick. I'm hella proud of her. The play would open in January, and Blondie would rather spend Christmas break practicing than anything else. Even though the school and the production were on break

  • Kissing the Bad Boy   Gabe's Story

GABE’s POV :It all started because of one stupid promise.I promised my friends that I would speak to Maddie before I leave for college. I had a crush on this girl since freshman year of high school, though the number of conversations we had could be counted with one hand.Though my friends had already left for college and I was the last one to go, I couldn’t leave without keeping that promise. But the problem was that Maddie didn't even know I exist. I couldn’t just go to her house and declare my undying love for her. I had to meet her somewhere and I don't know, maybe strike a conversation first? So when I got word that there was gonna be a party at a yacht thrown by Ryder Jake Williams and that Maddie would be there, I thought this must be a sign. Maybe this was the universe’s way of giving me a chance to speak to her.Ryder Jake Williams was actually Taya’s cousin. He was quite well known in this town. He was this surfer hero that all the guys wished they could be and all the gir

RYDER’s POV :“Hey, Ryyy!” Taya screeched as soon as I picked up her Facetime call.“Hey, T, what’s up?” I chuckled. From where I was standing, my cousin sister looked alright. Her skin was glowing and her hair was neatly tied up. Several days had passed since she left Hawaii and I was glad to see her alive and doing well.“Ry, we just saw the article online, congrats on winning the Hawaii Pro. We’re so proud of you!”“Thanks,” I said. “Who’s we?”“Judah and me, of course,” she chirped. She then turned the camera slightly and showed Judah sitting next to her on the couch.“Right,” I snorted. “How are you doing out there? Is everything good? Is he being nice to you? You tell me if he’s doing something sh—”“Everything is great and he is perfect, Ryder,” she cut me off sternly. “We just moved in to our apartment and got our first couch today. Everything’s great here, so don’t you worry about us,”“Geez, stop referring to yourself as we and us. It’s creepy,” I rolled my eyes.“Oh, Ryder,

  • Kissing the Bad Boy   Blake's Story

BLAKE’s POV :“Blake, no!” My mom said rather sternly. She was blocking the door to my dad’s office with her body. “Your father’s not in a good mood right now,” she hissed.“This can’t wait,” I said simply and pushed past inside.“Blake!” she called after me, but I only shut the door behind her.My dad finally came back from his business trip to Nevada. He was gone for weeks. When I heard that he was back tonight, I left the prom right away and went home. I was still in my prom attire as I walked into his office. I yanked my tie open and stepped inside. He was alone, sitting at his desk, and a glass of bourbon was by his side. You could tell a lot about my dad’s condition by his choice of drink. Scotch meant that he was happy, and bourbon meant that he just had a bad deal. He mustn’t be in a good mood right now.“Dad, I have to talk to you,” I said once I stood in front of his desk.“Not now son,” he sighed and tipped his head back. “It’s been a long day,”“It can’t wait, dad,”I had

Finally, it was time for Judah and me to leave for California. We got our two big suitcases with us and we were ready to go. They had been giving us the same advice over and over again the past week. But like Jesse said, moms will be moms.“You’re right,” mom sighed finally. “I know you two will be fine,”“But please, call us anyway,” Jenny added.“We will,” Judah said as he hugged his mom. “I’ll miss you ma,”“I’ll miss you too, sweetheart,” Jenny started crying as she leaned

And with that sexy smile on his face, he aimed for my lips and said, “Right… here,”Oh, that was so smooth. His lips landed on top of mine gently and I tilted my face to the side, allowing for more access. Tightening his grip on my face, Judah deepened the kiss and I kissed him back with the same hunger and passion. Though it was cold out here, my body was burning up. Soft moans escaped my lips and Judah’s tongue slid his way into my mouth. Our tongues met and they tangled breathlessly as warmth and desire overtook our bodies.Pulling away slightly, Judah threw the blan
