Chapter 2: Gael

last update Last Updated: 2022-04-28 19:53:17

“Tell the driver to take Miss Ellis to where she wants to go,” Selena told the butler.

He nodded respectfully and immediately fulfilled Selena’s request.

“My assistant, Layla, will contact you to discuss the preparation of my plan. I hope that in a one-month period, Miss Ellis will be ready to help us prepare for the plan at any time.” Selena told Calantha.

Calantha understood. Selena wanted her to quit her job at the café and spend all her time preparing for the wedding.

“I understand,” Calantha replied.

After Calantha left, Selena immediately went to the reading room, where her lover, John, was.

Selena embraced John, giving him loving kisses.

“Is everything going well?” John asked.

“Above all great, Calantha is more convincing than I thought. Because she really needs the money,” Selena replied, inhaling the scent of his body. “You know, my John, Calantha is very interesting and wise. Asher will hardly take advantage of her.”

“I don’t want to hear about Calantha, Selena, I want to hear about you,” John pulled Selena into his lap and they gave each other a big kiss.

Selena’s driver took Calantha to the hospital where Gael was being treated.

In a few days, he’ll be moving to a better hospital. He would doubt for sure how she’s going to pay the huge toll.

Calantha, of course, has a way of solving this problem.

Just as Calantha had predicted, Gael was constantly questioning her about how Calantha could afford the huge amount of hospital fees.

“Gael, I’ve been tired of working all day,” Calantha said, and she showed tired.

“But…,” Gael wanted to ask, but he stopped.

But he’s still angry because Calantha won’t tell you the truth. Gael decided he would not communicate with Calantha until he was relieved.

Calantha looked at Gael. He was lying on the bed and tucked in like a small snow-covered hill. She sighed.

Except for shirking whenever Gael talked about the hospital bills. Calantha had no choice but to be old enough to be aware of so many issues, anyway.

Calantha was reading and watching Gael for a while when she felt bored. Calantha turned on the television to explain, and suddenly she saw Asher Pittman’s speech.

Asher is really handsome with amber eyes and slicked-back brown hair. Asher could attract the gaze of every girl at the first meeting.

But Calantha couldn’t focus her attention on the beauty of Asher. She thought of what would happen, if Asher found out she wasn’t Selena on her wedding day.

What would he do to her?

Especially since Calantha didn’t even know about Asher’s personality.

Calantha turned off the television, and tried not to think of Asher.

Asher didn't seem to want to leave her. He appeared in her dream that night.

In Calantha’s dream, Asher stood in the distance and looked at her with an angry expression. Calantha tried to run away, but as she turned her head to look at Asher, the distance between them was still the same. It was as if Asher was a ghost and chased after her as she ran and didn’t notice her back.

Calantha sat up, panting. It was dawn. The sunshine was so feeble that it wasn’t enough to banish the darkness in the room.

“Damn, I’m so worried,” Calantha said.

“What are you worried about?” Gael asked. “Did you have a nightmare?”

Calantha almost screamed in a jolt, but she calmed down shortly after.

“You’re up early, Gael. Get some more sleep. We’re going to help you transferred to another hospital today.” Calantha reminded.

“Do you have to work a lot these days?” Gael asked.

“I will not work as hard as I used to. I’m going to take some extra work off.” Calantha said.

“So, what are you going to do?”

Calantha stared at Gael for a few seconds, causing Gael to be jumpy.

“I’m married to a billionaire.” Calantha winked at Gael and gave him an unimaginable answer.

“What, you...” Gael wanted to ask more, but Calantha went out of the sickroom.

As she walked out of Gael’s sick room, Calantha felt freezing despite the rays of sunshine reminding her that the weather was nice and warm today.

At this moment, Calantha realized that she had been sweating when she was dreaming of Asher.

“Holy shit!”

They quickly transferred Gael to a state-of-the-art private hospital that afternoon.

Calantha checked Gael’s medical contract. At this point, she really believed the transaction between her and Selena wasn’t a joke.

“Ting…” The message buzzer rang, which was a message from Layla, Selena’s assistant.

Calantha rushed into the WC to read the message.

Layla informed Calantha that tomorrow Calantha would have to go to Lady Selena’s mansion to prepare for her plan.

“Fine, I have to learn how to leave Gael. Even though it’s necessary, I still feel restless. Even though I’m so used to seeing Gael every day for 21 years.” Calantha thought, she’s a little upset.

Calantha washed her face with cold water to keep her awake and so that no one would find out she was crying.

People who don’t have money have to learn to choose.

“Mr. Pittman, this is your periodic inspection.”

When Calantha walked through the hallway, she overheard.

Pittman…?

Calantha curiously looked out over the hospital hallway stealthily.

She saw a back view of a rugged adult man whose hair was brown. He was wearing a black suit; he seemed to smoke. On his left is a man in a black suit who is bowing to him with a respectful attitude.

“Is that person Asher Pittman? Isn’t he in Los Angeles, right?” Calantha thought.

Only this morning, Layla had informed her that Asher Pittman was on a business trip to Los Angeles.

“You get the car ready, I want to get back to Rosé right away.” Asher Pittman said.

Calantha hurried away from there to argue in doubt.

His voice is indeed like Asher Pittman, the voice is low and serious…

If he was Asher Pittman, why did he go to the hospital?

Periodic inspection…? What was wrong with him?

Was the information Asher is working in Los Angeles real or fake?

Calantha had too many questions, but she tried not to think about them. Because finding the answers to those questions does not help her current life.

Curiosity killed the cat.

Asher returned to Rosé when it was late at night. The butler had waited for him beforehand. Asher gives the butler his periodic inspection results. The housekeeper, Mr. Hart, read it carefully.

“Your condition has improved, but you still need to maintain regular medication and treatment.” The butler reminded him.

“I got it.” Asher returned grudgingly.

Rosé was the private mansion of Asher, which was full of roses. Asher inhaled the scent of roses and gradually calmed down.

He missed Selena.

“A month from now, this mansion will welcome its true owner,” Asher said. He was content with what he would get in the future.

At Layla’s request, Calantha moved into Selena’s mansion the following afternoon after she had said goodbye to Gael. This was Calantha’s second visit to Selena’s mansion, however, for the first time, she did not enter the mansion and did not see its full lavishness. This is a two-story mansion, designed in European royal style. Layla arranged for Calantha to have a room at the end of the corridor of the second floor. It was a large room with large windows. From the window of the room, she could see the garden. “This room will be the only one that gets the first sunshine of the day.” Calantha thought. After Calantha finished her dinner, no one told her what to do. Calantha tried not to think too much and focused on enjoying life in a new place. The mansion’s reading room attracted her. Two days later, Calantha spent all her time reading, and she still didn’t take any requests. Lady Selena did not seem to be here very often. Because except for Calantha’s room, the butler’s room,

Asher heard the butler speak with an impatient expression. Not waiting for the butler to finish speaking, Asher hurriedly walked up to the second floor. “Selena, is that you?” “Holy shit!” Calantha thought. The wedding dress was too bulky. Calantha couldn’t run fast, Asher was behind her, as long as he ran, he could catch up with her. But no... Asher followed her and maintained a certain distance. “Selena, you’re trying on the wedding dress.” “I thought I was the only one who was excited to look forward to the wedding. You’re making me happy, Selena.” “Damn, damn... I need to find a room to hide in.” Calantha thought. “Damn, every room is locked. The training room is too far away.” Calantha didn’t dare turn around to check the distance between her and Asher, as she was worried that Asher would find out something out of the ordinary. If Asher found out about Selena’s escape plans, everything would get worse. Calantha recalled the afternoon two days before when she and Selena

“What? A dance party? With Asher?” Calantha couldn’t believe what she had just heard. “That’s right, but don’t worry, it’s a Masquerade Ballroom Dancing party. You will use a mask, and you just have to dance with Asher without having to communicate with him.” Selena said. “But I’ve never gone to a dance party. Excuse me, Lady Selena. I can’t join this party.” Calantha refused. “Don’t worry, I’ll teach you.” Selena said. “Why won’t you join?” Calantha asked. She didn’t think Selena would let her meet Asher before the wedding. This is really too risky. “I’m busy.” Selena said. In fact, on the day that the Masquerade Ballroom Dancing Party takes place, Selena and John would date and danced together in a luxurious and discreet restaurant. But she won’t tell Calantha the truth. And, of course, compared to Asher, John was much more important to Selena. “How could Asher Pittman find out who was going to dance with him that night? Only this afternoon, he was mistaken.” Selena thought.

Layla tirelessly entered the car, whispering, “Damn.” Layla’s mission was to monitor and support Calantha to join the party and meet Asher. But a noble woman stopped her from fulfilling her duties. Layla met her at the WC. The fat middle-aged woman was so tormented by her abdominal pain that she confused Layla for her daughter, and held on to her hands, screaming relentlessly even though she had tried everything to calm her down. It was all over when another girl walked into the WC and helped Layla and that miserable woman. When the girl rescued Layla, the party was still underway, but Asher had left to catch his flight to Los Angeles. Layla did not wait for Calantha too long, she came out of the mansion right after. “Is everything okay?” Layla asked as the car had rolled. “It’s fine,” Calantha stopped saying, “Asher doesn’t doubt me.” Layla felt that since she had been in the car, Calantha was very strange, she didn’t seem happy. “Really? Don’t worry, the driver can’t know what we’re doing right now,” Asher said in a charming low voice, pointing toward the glass that separated the two rows of seats in the car. Calantha said nothing, she turned away from Asher’s gaze. He felt ‘Selena‘ out of the ordinary, but only thought she was shy. Selena has always avoided being intimate with him in a crowded place. At first, Asher wasn’t happy about Selena’s attitude. She had to explain to him she would only be intimate with her husband. Gradually, Asher got used to it. But that did not mean he did not feel insecure. He wondered many times if Selena loved him or not, or if it was all because of their childhood engagement? But fo

Asher frowned, laughing sarcastically. He asked, “How much money did Selena give you? Tell me, I’ll pay you three times.” It was a great proposition, but it’s also a contemptuous saying. The sound of the door opening woke me up. The softness of the bed made me unwilling to sit up.“It’s time to go home,” Asher’s cold voice sounded, and I immediately sat up, saw Asher standing and leaning back against the door. His bright brown hair was a little messy, his vest was gone, two buttons of his shirt were undone. He was looking at me.“What about the ball?” That was what I thought of first when I saw him.“It’s over,” Asher announced.“No way,” I looked at Asher with amazement, soon after, anger invaded me. “Why didn’t you wake me up?”I stood up but immediately shouted because of the pain in my ankle. I fell to my bed, bit my lips and closed my eyes tightly, enduring the pain.“You can’t dance with me anyway when you can’t stand up,” Asher said sarcastically.I frowned, “What about you? What did you do?”Asher shrugged, “Dance with another girl.”I said, “So, your mother, did she see you dancing with another girl?” It was my only worry; I didn’t want to displease Bertha; sh

Her arrival reassured me. “Thank you,” I said. ”Asher re-aligned my joint.” “What?” Bertha looked at me in surprise and then looked at Asher. “Asher, you should let the doctor do it.” Asher shrugged, “I can do it professionally. Why do I need to wait for a doctor?” I heard Bertha’s sigh, and she said, “Selena is just a lady, she needs to be treated gently.” “Oh,” Asher gave me an ironic look and a smirk. “My mistake, I’m sorry.” When the doctors arrived, Bertha immediately asked them to check my ankles. She watched my entire inspection. My gaze could not leave her. Of course, Bertha recognized my gaze, too, and she answered me with a gentle smile. For the first time in my life, there was a woman who treated me like that. I suddenly remembered my mother, wondering where she was all this time. Would she remember me and Gael? The next few days, Calantha learned how to dance. She liked it because it was the only thing that make she fell comfortable at Rosé. The other reason was, when she learned how to dance, the teachers would allow her to wear gorgeous dresses. It was as heavy as making Calantha fall in love; she wondered when she danced, if she looked like a princess, or if she looked beautiful.Through the butler, she knew that Layla was his assistant, known as “Lola”.Calantha did not see Layla anymore, she did not know where Layla was and what she was doing. She wondered when she could work on her escape plan. However, she trusted Layla, because of Layla's appearance at Rosé. Asher often came home for dinner. Sometimes he was late, Calantha thought she would eat alone, but the butler had asked her to wait for him.She speculated about Asher’s strangeness. Was it because she was familiar to Selena? He locked her up in Rosé, so Asher’s attitude had a tremendous impact on her life at that time. One day,

Asher sat down on the sofa, he was tired. The butler brought him a cup of coffee as usual. “Where is she?” Asher asked. “Miss Ellis is sleeping in her bedroom?” The butler answered. Asher looked outside. The sun had risen. Asher stroked his hair like a habit, leaning against the sofa, closing his eyes. He said, “Didn’t I ask her to always get up at dawn?” The butler said, “That’s right, sir. But Miss Ellis did well, and she could fulfill almost every teacher’s request. So they set her up with a more comfortable timetable for a few days before they taught her to dance.” “She’s not as easy to bully as I thought,” Asher said, gritting his teeth. “Since she was a child, she has had to do many works for a living,” the butler explained. I wanted to check if Asher was a reliable partner. Asher kept his promise, so I could trust him to complete the transaction without making it a worthless trade. I put the transaction in a safe place and suddenly missed Gael. I had been taking care of him ever since he was born. We have lived together for more than 10 years, a strong connection created by trust and love has made us the only and most important relatives of each other, even if we are half-sisters.
