“What? A dance party? With Asher?” Calantha couldn’t believe what she had just heard.
“That’s right, but don’t worry, it’s a Masquerade Ballroom Dancing party. You will use a mask, and you just have to dance with Asher without having to communicate with him.” Selena said.
“But I’ve never gone to a dance party. Excuse me, Lady Selena. I can’t join this party.” Calantha refused.
“Don’t worry, I’ll teach you.” Selena said.
“Why won’t you join?” Calantha asked. She didn’t think Selena would let her meet Asher before the wedding. This is really too risky.
“I’m busy.” Selena said.
In fact, on the day that the Masquerade Ballroom Dancing Party takes place, Selena and John would date and danced together in a luxurious and discreet restaurant. But she won’t tell Calantha the truth.
And, of course, compared to Asher, John was much more important to Selena.
“How could Asher Pittman find out who was going to dance with him that night? Only this afternoon, he was mistaken.” Selena thought.
“Aren’t you worried that Asher will discover our secret?” Calantha asked. Her hands were sweaty.
“If you’re so worried that Asher will discover that secret, should you join me in creating the perfect plan?” Selena said.
“Lady Selena is so optimistic.” Calantha thought. She wished she could be as optimistic as Lady Selena.
“I understand you’re anxious, Miss Ellis. But remember that this afternoon, our Young Master Pittman made a disastrous mistake.” Layla walked into the living room, held on her hand plate with fruit. “Come on, have some fruit, Miss Ellis. Vitamins are good for your skin.”
Layla put the fruit platter down on the table and reminded her.
“Take a nap to regain your spirit full of energy. And don’t forget to remove all makeup before bed.” Layla reminded her.
Calantha blushed. Layla reminded her of her appearance twice today. And she felt ashamed.
Calantha nodded because she didn’t know how to respond to Layla.
Calantha knit her hands together and then separated them. This action proved she was panicking. What happened this afternoon scared Calantha, and this announcement from Selena completely knocked her down.
Calantha tried to convince Selena, but she failed. Selena upheld her decision and was certain that nothing was going to happen, as Layla was going with Calantha. To ease Calantha’s anxiety, Selena also promised that she would take all the blame if Asher found out about Calantha’s identity.
Calantha went to her room in a nervous mood. She couldn’t sleep and paced in her bedroom.
“Damn, anxiety is tormenting me every second.” Calantha thought, and she tired of thinking too much.
Calantha walked out of the room. She wanted to calm her, even though she didn’t know what she was going to do.
Lady Selena, Layla, the butler. They were all asleep. There was not a light in the mansion.
Calantha suddenly felt her anxiety really redundant. She was obviously not the only one who’s prepared for this plan, and the one who benefits from it wasn’t just her.
But she was the most worried one.
Calantha went to the kitchen and poured her a glass of warm water.
“What should happen, It will happen. Even if I’m worried, I can’t change anything.” Calantha understood.
“Now, let’s go to bed.” She said it to herself.
…
The next day, when Calantha arrived at the practice room, Selena, Layla, and a man were waiting.
Selena was very close to him. She sat next to him, putting her head on his shoulder. She was telling him about something very interesting. The man smiled attentively and stroked Selena’s hair.
The man had black hair and brown eyes. His appearance was not very prominent. But when he looked into Selena’s eyes, Calantha knew it was love, true love.
“Good morning, Miss Ellis.” Layla said. Layla’s words successfully caught everyone’s attention in the room, and they recognized Calantha’s appearance.
“Good morning, everyone.” Calantha replied.
“Calantha, I’m going to dance with John, so watch closely.” Selena said.
Calantha nodded, sat on the large armchair, and observed them.
Selena and John dance beautifully. Their bodies mingled, as if they understood each other to every thought. The way they look at each other, it’s like there’s only one left in the world. Selena wore a beautiful, bright white prom dress like a princess, and John was like her prince.
Calantha did not know what kind of dance they were dancing, because her previous life circumstances wouldn’t allow it.
Calantha suddenly remembered when she was little. Calantha also loved romantic fairy tales. She wished she would become a princess and find her prince on her third birthday.
But the harshness of life made her forget her wish.
Calantha tried to get out of her thoughts about the past and focus on watching them, but she couldn’t remember any moves.
Selena and John finished dancing.
Calantha gave them a round of applause.
“Very nice, I wish I knew the name of that dance.” Calantha said.
“Calantha, that’s Waltz.” Selena said. “All right, Layla will be your dance partner and I’ll guide you on how to waltz dance.”
Practicing for the Masquerade Ballroom Dancing party excited Calantha. She liked to dance and listen to music. But that did not mean it was easy for Calantha.
“Her body is too stiff, her expression is quite embarrassing. Don’t be shy, Calantha. Just relax.” That’s what Selena commented.
Calantha had practiced relentlessly with Layla, sometimes with the butler.
Finally, she could get a nod from Selena and the afternoon before the day that the Masquerade Ballroom Dancing Party took place.
…
The prom dress Calantha would wear to join the Masquerade Ballroom Dancing party was a black prom dress with a mask in the same color as the prom dress.
They held the party in the lobby of a majestic mansion of the Pittman family.
The venue for the party did not surprise the elites. Because the Pittman family were not only famous for their wealth and power, but also for their generosity.
Calantha came to the party in time. She did not feel comfortable here, because she could not communicate with anyone. The only thing she could do was go to the garden to take the air, waited to dance with Asher and then returned to Lady Selena’s mansion.
The garden has only red roses. Calantha could hear the harmonious waltz. It urged you to dance and enjoy the melody of the music. However, Calantha did not dare to enter the lobby and found a dance partner.
She imagined herself a dance partner, and dancing alone. Calantha focused, and she didn’t realize there was a man who had been watching her for so long.
He walked towards Calantha and as she did the body rotation; he caught hold of her small waist and held her to his lap.
Suddenly, Calantha didn’t react in time. She put her head on the man’s solid chest, smelling the strong, masculine pinewood perfume.
The man rubbed her waist with one hand and stroked her hair with the other hand. He asked in a husky voice,
“Don’t you join with everyone?”
Calantha immediately recognized he was Asher.
She dared not raise her head to look at him, nor answer. She just shook her head and then nodded softly.
Asher laughed quietly. His laughter was husky. Calantha could feel his warm breath tickled her ear. Calantha’s cheeks flushed red and hot. She was shy.
“Wait for me?” Asher asked quietly.
Calantha nodded.
Asher stroked Calantha’s cheeks, looking at her with mesmerizing eyes.
Asher admitted to himself, his heart was beating faster, she rocked him. Calantha was beautiful today, she wore a black prom dress, ginger hair with a high bun, a red rose was placed above her ear. Not only that, she was well-behaved, not refusing to have intimate contact with him.
“Just dance with you for a while. I’m about to have a flight to California.” Asher said and he kiss on Calantha’s hair. “I can’t give you all night. Sorry.”
Calantha nodded.
They danced Waltz together in the moonlight and in the red roses field.
Layla tirelessly entered the car, whispering, “Damn.” Layla’s mission was to monitor and support Calantha to join the party and meet Asher. But a noble woman stopped her from fulfilling her duties. Layla met her at the WC. The fat middle-aged woman was so tormented by her abdominal pain that she confused Layla for her daughter, and held on to her hands, screaming relentlessly even though she had tried everything to calm her down. It was all over when another girl walked into the WC and helped Layla and that miserable woman. When the girl rescued Layla, the party was still underway, but Asher had left to catch his flight to Los Angeles. Layla did not wait for Calantha too long, she came out of the mansion right after. “Is everything okay?” Layla asked as the car had rolled. “It’s fine,” Calantha stopped saying, “Asher doesn’t doubt me.” Layla felt that since she had been in the car, Calantha was very strange, she didn’t seem happy. “Really? He did nothing to upset you?” Layla as
The man did not doubt Calantha’s silence. He thought Calantha was in suspense for her and Asher’s imminent wedding. From his point of view, the relationship between Selena and Asher had always been very good, they both were in love and looking forward to their wedding. But if Selena married the man she loved, she would be happier and more excited than anyone.Layla rushed over shortly after, she politely bowed to him and lowered her voice to inform him of something, he smiled delicately and left.“Layla, who is he?” Calantha asked curiously.“He’s Lady Selena’s father, Mr. Anderson,” Layla answered. “He came here to persuade you to allow him to walk down the aisle with you.”“But, what? Why would he do that? He’s Lady Selena’s father, right?” Calantha asked in surprise.“Yes, but he only sees Lady Selena as a tool at the service of his success. And he has hurt her so many times. For Lady Selena, he was the one who gave her life, not her father. Lord Pittman knows this, and he wants to
The driver was waiting outside, Asher and Calantha entered the car, and the driver immediately took them to Asher’s private mansion, Rosé. As soon as the car rolled, Asher rushed toward Calantha, wanting to kiss her. Calantha panicked, pushing him out instinctively. “What’s the matter, are you afraid? Don’t worry, the driver can’t know what we’re doing right now,” Asher said in a charming low voice, pointing toward the glass that separated the two rows of seats in the car. Calantha said nothing, she turned away from Asher’s gaze. He felt ‘Selena‘ out of the ordinary, but only thought she was shy. Selena has always avoided being intimate with him in a crowded place. At first, Asher wasn’t happy about Selena’s attitude. She had to explain to him she would only be intimate with her husband. Gradually, Asher got used to it. But that did not mean he did not feel insecure. He wondered many times if Selena loved him or not, or if it was all because of their childhood engagement? But fo
Calantha didn’t think she’d be so easily spotted, because things were always going to work out for her. Asher no longer had patience with her. He squeezed her chin, forcing her to look into the eyes of his, “Don’t let me repeat it a second time. Where’s Selena?” The powerful gaze of the one who wields potent power made Calantha felt it would kill her. Fear forced Calantha to say what he wanted to hear. “No, wake up, Calantha, you can’t fall,” Reason tried to stop her from doing her stupid trading betrayal. “I don’t know,” she said. Asher frowned, laughing sarcastically. He asked, “How much money did Selena give you? Tell me, I’ll pay you three times.” It was a great proposition, but it’s also a contemptuous saying. Calantha knew that Asher thought she was a grabber, he wanted to use the money to solve this problem. But if she said so, she would have to accept a greater consequence than she could get. Selena would avenge her. Asher loved Selena very much, so he won’t protect h
Although Calantha’s feelings were eroded by the days Asher locked her in his room, the transaction Asher offered surprised her. Calantha read what was stated in the transaction. The content of this transaction was that she must pretend to be Selena, becoming Lady Pittman until Asher found the real Selena. Asher would pay her with money. She realized that all the terms of this transaction were to Asher’s advantage. Asher had the right to control her everything until this transaction was no longer valid. And Calantha could not have any rights but money, a lot of money. But she could only get that money when Selena came back. It was an unfair transaction for her. “I will not sign this transaction,” Calantha said. “Give me a good reason,” Asher said. He looked at Calantha with an angry look. “This contract is not fair to me. Except for money, I don’t have any rights. Even if you find Selena, I can only get the money you’ll pay me. Calantha’s POV That evening, I received a copy of the transaction from the butler. I could have asked him to make a copy of the transaction for me as soon as he asked his assistant to compose a new copy of the transaction. But I did not. Because I took a test on him. I wanted to check if Asher was a reliable partner. Asher kept his promise, so I could trust him to complete the transaction without making it a worthless trade. I put the transaction in a safe place and suddenly missed Gael. I had been taking care of him ever since he was born. We have lived together for more than 10 years, a strong connection created by trust and love has made us the only and most important relatives of each other, even if we are half-sisters. I wondered what Gael was doing at that moment. Maybe he was learning, he was working hard. I thought about how to escape from Asher’s mansion, but I immediately rejected all options on my own. Third person’s POV Asher walked into Rosé’s living room, the butler was already waiting. He took Asher’s black overcoat. “Welcome home, my young master,” he said. Asher sat down on the sofa, he was tired. The butler brought him a cup of coffee as usual. “Where is she?” Asher asked. “Miss Ellis is sleeping in her bedroom?” The butler answered. Asher looked outside. The sun had risen. Asher stroked his hair like a habit, leaning against the sofa, closing his eyes. He said, “Didn’t I ask her to always get up at dawn?” The butler said, “That’s right, sir. But Miss Ellis did well, and she could fulfill almost every teacher’s request. So they set her up with a more comfortable timetable for a few days before they taught her to dance.” “She’s not as easy to bully as I thought,” Asher said, gritting his teeth. “Since she was a child, she has had to do many works for a living,” the butler explained. Calantha’s effort and rapid adaptation amazed the butler. “I see.” When Calantha wa

The sound of the door opening woke me up. The softness of the bed made me unwilling to sit up.“It’s time to go home,” Asher’s cold voice sounded, and I immediately sat up, saw Asher standing and leaning back against the door. His bright brown hair was a little messy, his vest was gone, two buttons of his shirt were undone. He was looking at me.“What about the ball?” That was what I thought of first when I saw him.“It’s over,” Asher announced.“No way,” I looked at Asher with amazement, soon after, anger invaded me. “Why didn’t you wake me up?”I stood up but immediately shouted because of the pain in my ankle. I fell to my bed, bit my lips and closed my eyes tightly, enduring the pain.“You can’t dance with me anyway when you can’t stand up,” Asher said sarcastically.I frowned, “What about you? What did you do?”Asher shrugged, “Dance with another girl.”I said, “So, your mother, did she see you dancing with another girl?” It was my only worry; I didn’t want to displease Bertha; sh
“Don’t worry, I asked the doctor to come right away,” Bertha said and sat down next to me. Her arrival reassured me. “Thank you,” I said. ”Asher re-aligned my joint.” “What?” Bertha looked at me in surprise and then looked at Asher. “Asher, you should let the doctor do it.” Asher shrugged, “I can do it professionally. Why do I need to wait for a doctor?” I heard Bertha’s sigh, and she said, “Selena is just a lady, she needs to be treated gently.” “Oh,” Asher gave me an ironic look and a smirk. “My mistake, I’m sorry.” When the doctors arrived, Bertha immediately asked them to check my ankles. She watched my entire inspection. My gaze could not leave her. Of course, Bertha recognized my gaze, too, and she answered me with a gentle smile. For the first time in my life, there was a woman who treated me like that. I suddenly remembered my mother, wondering where she was all this time. Would she remember me and Gael? And my father- “Oh my God, our talented doctors told me your situ
Calantha’s POVAll I had to do at that dinner was shut up and eat.I was happy about it, because at least it didn’t get me into any trouble.During the meal, Asher occasionally watched me.What did he want?I was not a kid, and I always bothered him. After dinner, at Bertha’s request, Mary took me to places where there were many ladies of the Pittman family for me to get to know.“Long time no see, Lady Anderson,” said a straight dark-haired girl, whose face was filled with freckles. How ironic! She didn’t call me Lady Pittman, even though the members of this family all attended Asher and Selena’s wedding.Apparently, Selena wasn’t very popular with her family.I wondered what I should do, answer ironically or keep silent.“Selena, this is Vivi, Asher’s cousin. A smart and active girl,” Mary said in a pale, idle voice. She would lull people to sleep if she would read a speech with that accent.“Nice to meet you, Vivi,” I smiled elegantly and properly.“Mary, just Vivi? don’t forget me
“Is that why I have to listen to you? Asher, I don’t believe Bertha would leave me alone when I was in danger,” Calantha said, glaring at Asher with a provocative look.“What gave you such strong faith?” Asher said sarcastically.“Because I’m her daughter-in-law, I met her as Selena,” Calantha insisted.Asher felt both funny and angry at her naïve thoughts.“As expected, this little lamb should be locked in Rosé, to avoid her causing more trouble for me,” he thought.Asher whispered in Calantha’s ear. He said, “Of course, listen to my every request, because you’re mine. Calantha, as soon as you signed that transaction, you were mine.”“It’s all temporary,” Calantha countered.“Oh, so after Selena returns, do you think you can still live in this upper-class society?” Asher said. “Best of all, don’t think or care about anyone in this elite, just focus on me. And don’t let me find out you’ve been in stealthy contact with anyone, or I won’t take revenge on you. I know, Calantha, you’re st
Calantha had to join an elite party once again. But it wasn’t like the ballroom party, where she was just a side character, nobody noticed her, she just went there, hid in a corner, danced with Asher and left. At this new party, she was the protagonist. How could Calantha confidently stand in front of the Pittman family’s members, the true nobles, and communicate with them?Calantha had asked herself many times, but she couldn’t find the answer. These sessions on the rules and conduct of the elite only kept her from acting low, but did not help her gain confidence and courage when faced with people whose social status was higher than hers.Calantha was under pressure. She ate less. In her last sessions with rigorous teachers, she thought that these sessions were not as scary as she had ever thought. And when she could no longer see them, Calantha became confused and panicked like she had lost a support.Calantha continued to live her boring days in a lavish and splendid mansion.
