Curtis was rendered speechless. His gaze was empty as he stared at Margot.

When she mentioned that her daughter's name was Lilac, his heart felt as if it had been ripped from his chest, torn to shreds, and stomped on repeatedly. The pain was unbearable.

The excruciating despair left him breathless, and he wasn't able to come to terms with anything she said. Nevertheless, he vividly recalled that the little girl he sent back was indeed named Lilac.

She was incredibly well-behaved and adorable. She was also extremely intelligent and sensible. Curtis wondered if Lilac truly was the daughter Margot had with someone else.

It explained the familiar features he recognized in the child. The realization that she was Margot's daughter, conceived with someone else, struck him hard.

His beloved Margot no longer loved him. She had moved on, found someone else, and built a family with him.
