"Hey calm down Ruby," Drake assured me once we were out from his office. "I can’t okay! He’s the one who wants him dead but he doesn’t have any idea of his location. I mean Benjamin Castro could probably be in Mexico sipping tequila but we can’t go there. There are guards everywhere. Going there to kill him is like a suicide mission and he should at least give us an idea or something!" I ran my fingers to my hair feeling frustrated.
"I know we’ll figure it out."
"Of course we will or not we’ll be dead too." I snapped.
Drake and I drove back home and start figuring out Benjamin's location. I quickly head to my room and plopped on my bed. Getting up, I changed my outfit into comfortable ones. Taking out my laptop, I lean to the headboard of my bed and start searching about Benjamin Castro.
I don’t know how long I sat in the bed searching for his location. All I know is once I looked to the window it’s starting to get dark.
Typing furiously on my laptop, I try to find more information about Benjamin Castro. I need to know where his location and where he lives. Michael said, his man spotted him going back and forth from Mexico to Los Angeles. I open the file that Michael gave me and scanned his picture.
The picture is where he goes to the club, playing golf, having lunch, and in a neighborhood. I looked at the other picture and it’s the same. I scrunched my eyebrow in confusion. Most of the pictures had been taking almost in the exact location.
A neighborhood.
I immediately stood up, taking the laptop and file with me, and head downstairs. I saw all of my team is in the living room except Blake and Matthew. They probably have a mission. Settling myself on the couch, I put my laptop and file down. They all looked at me confused.
"What’s with the laptop?" Austin asks.
"I found something about Benjamin." Drake went to me and seat next to me. "What did you find?"
"Here, look at the picture." I handed him the file. Drake frowned as he sees the photo. "Who’s Benjamin?" Austin asks.
I looked at Austin "Michael assigned us to kill him but he doesn’t know his location. That’s the reason why I’m doing this." I gestured to the file and laptop in front of me.
"What’s wrong with the picture?" Taking the picture from his grasp, I put the entire picture that has the same background on the table. "Look at this." I pointed at the first picture. "Look at the background, he’s in a neighborhood." I turned to drake. He nods his head. "And look at the next picture." I showed him the second picture.
"The same background only in a different angle. Now, look at the rest of it." Drake scans the picture while scrunching his eyebrow. "It’s almost in the same neighborhood." I nodded my head.
"But what that has to do with the mission?" Drake turns to me. "Michael said, he doesn’t know Castro's location right?" Drake nods. "There might be a chance we could find Benjamin."
"Where?"
"Here." I pointed at the picture. "You mean we have to go there?" I nodded my head. "Will Benjamin really be there?"
"I don’t know."
"Then why would we go there?!" Drake looked at my disbelief. "I think he’s hiding something."
"Or someone," Emily said. I nodded.
"What could he possibly be hiding?" Drake asks.
"A family."
"What? The information says, he’s single and why all of a sudden you said he has a family?" I rolled my eyes. "Why are you so slow? Obviously, he’s hiding his family because he is Sanchez's second in command. Therefore if the mafia knows he has a child, they have to bring the child to the mafia and raise them there." Drake's mouth formed into an O.
"So he’s hiding his family there?"
"Oh, Christ!" I put my hands up exasperatedly. Austin smacked the back of his head. "Ruby said that earlier you dumbass." Drake glared at him while rubbing the back of his head.
"I was just making sure!" Drake said defensively. "Yeah, you just making sure that I got a headache," I said sarcastically.
"You guys are so dramatic," Drake mutters but loud enough for me to hear since I’m on his side.
"Yeah, sure we are. Moving on, it means his wife knows he works for the mafia and probably might know his whereabouts."
"Wait, so you guys will kill his family too?" Emily asks. I shook my head. "Michael only said we have to kill Benjamin. His wife probably doesn’t know he’s in the mafia before deciding to marry him." the front door opens, revealing Matthew and a bloody Blake. My eyes widen seeing his arms.
"What happen to you?" I got up and walked to him. "Did Matthew do a mistake again?" I turned to Matthew and glared at him. "Geez, woman! It’s not me." I took the First aid kits from the bathroom and pulled drake to a seat on the couch. I open the sleeve of his shirt and treat his wounds.
"What happened?" I heard him sighed. "I was in a hurry and when I turn to the corner, a guy stabbed me in the arm." I clean all the blood in his arms and stitch the wound in his arm. He hissed in pain once I start to stitch him.
Matthew walked to the table and see all the pictures scattered on the table. "What are you guys doing?"
"We need to find Benjamin's whereabouts," Drake answers for me.
"Benjamin Castro?"
"Yup, the one and only. We have been assigned to kill him." I finish the last stitches and put everything back in the kits. "Have you guys found his location?"
"Thanks to ruby with his swift mind we are being able to find his location."
"Not yet though, we have to confront his wife remember?"
"Oh yeah, I forgot about that." I rolled my eyes. "Benjamin Castro has a wife?" Blake asks. I turned to him and nodded. "Yes he has, but he hides her along with his child." Blake furrowed his eyebrow.
"How do you know?" I point to the picture. "Just look at it." Matthew and Blake took the picture.
"The rest of the picture almost in the same location, so I assume he hides someone in that neighborhood." Matthew looked up. "And where is this place located?" I looked at my laptop. "Los Angeles but I don’t know the exact location of that neighborhood yet."
"I’ll help you with that," Matt said. I nodded my head. "Thanks, matt."
"Are you sure that he has a child?" Austin asks. I turned to him. "What you don’t believe me?"
"Well..."
"Let’s have a bet, if I’m wrong, which I believe will never happen, I’ll do everything you say but if I’m right, you will do all the housework for a week. How’s that?" all eyes are on him. "Fine, deal," I smirked.
"When we will go there?" Drake asks. "Tomorrow. Prepare the jet." Blake instantly looked in my direction. "Tomorrow? Isn’t it too early?"
"No, cause we still have a lot of things to do. The faster we go there, there faster we go back to new york."
I pack all the stuff that I need inside my bag because today Drake and I are going to Los Angeles. Matthew has sent me the location of his wife's house. It's in the suburban area. To be exact is in El Segundo. I just hope everything that I found is right."Packing your stuff already?" Knowing the owner of the voice, I didn't turn around but a smile creeps on my face."What do you think?" An arms circle my waist, hugging me from the back. A sigh escapes my lips."Are you okay?""I’m fine, I just felt like something will go wrong." Blake turns me around. "Listen to me ruby, we call you ruby for a reason. Ruby means a precious jewel, a rare stone. You are precious Ruby, the reason Moretti send you is that you are the best assassin here and everyone wants you to be their assassin. Trust me, you don’t have anything to worry about.""I hope you’re right. By the way, where did you find that word? In Google?" Blake rolls his eyes.
"Are you sure this is going to work?" Drake said as we are on our way to El Segundo the location Matthew sent me."Positive.""What if she doesn’t believe us?""Drake relaxes, as long as we keep calm and act like we don’t have any idea of who they are, we’ll be fine," I said as I’m applying red lipstick to my lips."Fine, I trust you." Smacking my lips together as I look through the mirror of my compact powder. Once I’m done I close the powder and turned to Drake. "Everything will be fine, I’ll do the talking you will just follow my lead okay?""I’m really not good at undercover but okay." The driver announced to us that we have arrived at the place. I got out and straighten my skirt and blazer. I make my way to the front door with Drake beside me. Pressing the doorbell, we waited till she opens the door.A few minutes later, the door opens revealing a petite woman in her late thirty. She looked at u
Tucking the gun at the waistband of my jeans, I grab my knife and tuck it in my heels boots. I wore my leather jacket and applied red lipstick to my lips. What can I say? You have to kill in style."You’re done?" Drake walked into my room wearing ripped jeans, a leather jacket, and white sneakers. I raised my eyebrow looking at his shoes. "Sneakers? Really?"He shrugs "What? I came to like it.""Where're your boots? You usually use them.""Nah, I look old wearing boots." I rolled my eyes at him. "Whatever you say. Now come on let’s go."We are currently at our house in Los Angeles. Michael had provided everything we need every time we go out for a mission. So we wouldn’t be staying at a hotel. It will be much more easier and efficient especially if you bring a gun, not just one but a lot. I took my key cars and walked to the garage. We both decided to drive our car to incase someone notices one of us. Entering my black Chevrolet C
"I told you no eyewitness!" he slams his fist to the table. It has been 2 days since we kill benjamin. Michael was happy when he found out benjamin was dead but he was also angry when he found out there’s an eye-witnessed. He then quickly called us to fly to Italy. Now I’m currently in his office alone with him. He told Drake to wait outside cause he only wanted to talk to me. I looked at him blankly. "It’s not like we have an option." Michael's head snapped to me, glaring at me hard. "Then why didn’t you kill him?" I remained silent because he was right, why didn’t I kill him? I kept asking myself that."Ruby I want you to find him and kill him because you’re the one who fucked up!"I scoffed "I fucked up? If only you knew Benjamin's location earlier, we wouldn’t go undercover as a fucking design interior to find his location!" by now the two of us are glaring hard at each other. Since the day he kidnapped me, we never
Bursting inside the house, I quickly make my way to my room. Ignoring the calls from my friend. I took my duffle bag and threw all my things and the file in there. I open my laptop and book a flight to Los Angeles. I didn’t bring any gun with me since I’m not using the jet. Bringing the laptop with me, I head downstairs and find a furious-looking Drake."What the fuck?! You fucking leave me?!" he burst. Keeping my face expressionless, I looked at him blankly. "What? Are you scare? Do you need a teddy bear?"The tension in the room grew to make it tenser. "What’s the matter? You two never fight." Blake said."Nothing, everything is fine." I walked past Drake but he held my arm."Where do you think you’re going?" his voice is cold. I answer with the same tone. "None of your business." I yank my arms from his grasp and walked out of the house after telling the taxi driver to wait."Where are you going?!" I ignore them and
Arriving at the building with my Porsche, I stepped out and gave my car keys to the valet. I walked inside the hotel, I could see a few people are looking at me. Making my way to the ballroom, I could feel myself getting anxious.Come on, I can do this! Taking a deep breath, I stepped into the ballroom graciously. People are looking at me as I walked into the ballroom. I head to the bar, grabbing a glass of champagne with me. The men in this room are eyeing me as if I’m their prey. I mentally roll my eyes at it."Hello, what’s your name?" I turn to my right to see a tall handsome man is looking at me lustfully. I smile politely at him. "Hailey." He outstretched his hands and I shook it. "Pleasure to meet you, I have never seen you before." His thumb caressing my hand. If we are not in this room with people watching over, I sure as hell will break his fingers into pieces. Drawing my hand back, I took my champagne and drink it."I&rsqu
"What?" I said.He shook his head and let me go. "No, I’m sorry. I thought you were... " His voice trailing voice."You were who?""Nothing, um sorry for that. I didn’t see where I was going." He apologizes. Nodding my head, I force a smile. "It’s okay.""So you’re new here?""Yup, I am.""Oh Chase Hudson by the way." He outstretched his hand. I looked at it hesitantly but forcing myself to shake his hands. Once my hands touch him, I could feel the electric pull between us. I quickly draw my hand back and looked away."Ladies and gentleman, please take your seat we will start the charity." I breathe out in relief. Save by the bell.We make our way to our assigned seats. Thankfully, Chase is 2 tables away from me. The charity start and the MC read every peoples name who donated their money. I looked around the people whose names have been called.Every time the MC called one of their names, they ha
It has been 2 days since the charity event and it has been 2 days, I didn’t go and make my move to Chase. For the first time in my life, I kinda doubted myself. I kept hitting the punching bag to relieve my stress.I’m currently at the gym but not the hotel gym. It’s a gym that I found down the streets and it takes 30 minutes to arrived here. There isn’t a lot of people who come here only a few but today I’m alone that’s a good thing for me."Hailey! If you keep hitting the punching bag with force, I'm sure it will hit you right back." I rolled my eyes at him. I stop what I’m doing while taking a deep breath. Turning around, I find Fred is standing there with his arms crossed over his chest."Haha, very funny Fred.""You okay?""Does it look like I’m okay?" He comes closer and observes my face. "Nope, you’re not." I sighed and took my water bottle. Opening the cap, I chug in the water till
Ruby"That son of a bitch!"The door slammed shut behind me with a resounding thud, the sound reverberating through the empty hallway like a thunderclap in the midst of a storm. Anger boiled within me like a tempest raging in the depths of my soul, threatening to consume me whole with its fiery intensity.I pace back and forth across the room, my mind swirling with a whirlwind of emotions. Anger, frustration, betrayal – they all swirl together in a tangled mess, threatening to overwhelm me like a tidal wave crashing against the shore. But amidst the chaos of my thoughts, there's something else, something I can't quite put my finger on. It's a strange sensation, like a fluttering in my chest, a quickening of my pulse that I can't quite explain. But I push it aside, dismissing it as nothing more than the remnants of the adrenaline rush from our fight in the kitchen. I take a deep breath, trying to calm the storm raging within me. I can't let Chase get to me, can't let his accusations an
Chase HudsonA stab of frustration gnawed at the corners of my mind as Ruby stormed out of the living room, her demeanor as cold as ever. For a split second it had felt like she had let her guard down, that she had let herself get comfortable with her surroundings. But as soon as she noticed my presence, her relax demeanor replaced once more by the impenetrable wall of mistrust and suspicion that she had built around herself.I sighed heavily, feeling as though she were trying to avoid me at all costs. With a weary shake of my head, I loose the tie around my neck and headed to my study. The smell of mahogany and leather enveloped me like a warm embrace, and I settled into the plush armchair behind my desk. Pouring myself a generous measure of whiskey, I took a sip and let the fiery liquid burn its way down my throat, the warmth spreading through me like a warm blanket against the chilly air.As I settled into the comfort of solitude, I reached for my phone and dialed the number of my
As I wandered aimlessly through the grand halls of Chase's mansion for what felt like the hundredth time, a sense of futility washed over me like a tidal wave, threatening to drown me in a sea of confusion and despair. There was no getting away from the cruel reality of my imprisonment, no matter how hard I searched or how many rooms I examined. With a heavy sigh, I finally conceded defeat, the weight of my exhaustion bearing down on me like a burden too heavy to bear. I made my way back to the bedroom, the familiar scent of lavender and sandalwood enveloping me like a comforting embrace as I sank down onto the plush mattress, the softness of the pillows cradling my weary body like a mother's gentle touch. My mind was filled with memories of the past as I lay there, staring up at the ceiling with blinding eyes. It served as a bittersweet reminder of the life I had left behind. I hadn't had an actual rest in such a long time, a break from the never-ending cycle of violence and deceit t
The tension in the air was palpable, thick enough to suffocate any semblance of ease as Chase and I sat in silence, the only sound echoing through the room the clinking of our cutlery against porcelain plates. I could feel Chase's eyes burning into me, his gaze like a physical weight that bore into my very soul, but I refused to meet his stare, keeping my focus fixed firmly on my meal as if it were the only thing that mattered. But then, just as I began to relax into the comfortable rhythm of our silent standoff, Chase opened his mouth to speak, his voice cutting through the silence like a knife."Why were you at the party, Ruby?" he asked, his tone deceptively casual yet laced with an undercurrent of suspicion that sent a shiver down my spine.I froze, my fork halfway to my mouth as I struggled to find the right words to answer his question. But before I could formulate a response, Chase continued, his words more of a statement than a question."You were there to kill me, weren't you
RubyI have nowhere else to run.The darkness of the woods enveloped me like a suffocating embrace as I stumbled through the tangled underbrush, my heart pounding in my chest with the frenzied rhythm of fear. I glanced over my shoulder, my breath coming in ragged gasps as I strained to catch a glimpse of Chase's looming figure in the distance. I kept moving forward out of sheer willpower and the survival instinct, but there was no sign of him, no evidence of his persistent pursuit.I knew I was lost, the dense canopy of trees stretching out in all directions like a labyrinth of shadows. However, I refused giving up and held onto the flimsy hope that, somewhere, someway, I am able to get away from Chase. My wounded arm throbbed with a dull ache due to the fight that I had earlier at the party. I grimaced as I slowed my pace, my breath hitching in my throat as I leaned against a gnarled tree trunk to catch my breath. My limbs were gnawing with fatigue, which was eating away at my streng
Chase Hudson The weight of the phone call lingered heavy in the air as I stood outside the hotel room, my mind racing with a tumult of conflicting emotions. "Boss," came the familiar voice on the other end, crisp and efficient as always. "Report," I commanded, my voice tinged with urgency. "There's been a development regarding the incident at the party earlier," my informant began, his tone grave. "We found out that she infiltrated the party using fake names and ID. She went undercover as a waitress, and she is not acting alone. There are four others involved in her plan." I clenched my jaw, my mind racing to piece together the puzzle before me. "Do we have any information on them?" I demanded, my patience wearing thin. "Unfortunately, no," my informant replied. "Their identities and whereabouts remain unknown. But from what we've gathered, they're not your run-of-the-mill criminals. They're skilled, elusive, and highly dangerous." I cursed under my breath, a sense of foreboding
The air in the dimly lit hotel room hung heavy with tension, thick enough to suffocate any semblance of ease. Chase, his steely gaze fixed upon me, seemed more like a predator ready to pounce than a man engaged in conversation. And here I was, Ruby, the unintended prey ensnared within his grasp.I shifted in my seat, not out of discomfort, but out of a calculated attempt to maintain some semblance of control in this precarious situation. "So, Chase," I drawled, feigning nonchalance as I met his gaze head-on, "what's a charming fellow like you doing in a dingy place like this?"Chase's expression remained impassive; his features carved from stone. "Cut the act," he retorted, his voice devoid of any trace of warmth. "I know why you're here. What I want to know is why you decided to crash the party and disrupt my plans."Ah, yes, the party. It seemed my little escapade had ruffled more feathers than I had anticipated. But then again, when did I ever play by the rules? "Well, Chase, darli
I open my eyes and immediately squinted as it made contact with the bright light. I feel something tight on my wrist but trying to move was absolute agony. The wound from the gunshot earlier hasn’t been treated and the fabric is still wrapped around my arm. I groaned in pain as I tried to wiggle my hands as the pain shoot right through my arm. I give up and examine the place instead. I looked around the room trying to figure out where I am, but no clue comes to mind. The room is quite small, but it can fit two people. I tilt my head back and realize there’s a bed and a bathroom in the left corner of the room. This place looks familiar. It looks like a motel room. But is it? I glanced at the clock on the bedside table and saw the time. 1:40 AM My eyebrow furrowed in confusion. How long was I out? More importantly, how am I here? What was the last thing I remember? All these questions ran through my brain. Closing my eyes in hope I could remember the last thing that happened.
"Curious to find out the champagne you spike went?" he leaned forward with a smirk etched on his lips. "See that old man wearing expensive tux with women on each side? He is holding the drink that should be mine." My eyes widen in shocked. Shit! Chase is my target not the old man. I can’t let him drink the champagne or it will make the situation worse. A hand grab ahold of my arm to stop me as I stood up. "Where are you going? Planning to take the drink?" yanking my arm with no avail due to his death grip, he leans closer to my ear. "If you want to see that man survive, you must talk but if you plan otherwise then he’ll die." I face him as I clenched my jaw and glared at him in anger. "There’s nothing to talk about." "Oh, trust me babe, there is." I hissed. "Do not call me that." He raised his brows amusedly. "Why getting the feeling of déjà vu?" balling my fist up, I pressed my body to him catching him off guard. "You know what? Let the old m
