Chapter 2

Chapter 2

My eyes opened wide when my phone startled me, I realized I was not in my room, I was still on the sofa with the window open but the difference was I couldn't feel the cool wind touching my body but the heat from the sun shining right at me.

I looked at my wall clock above the TV, and my eyes widened even more, it was almost 1 pm, how could I sleep that long in this position?

"Damn it!"

I looked here and there, for my phone, but I couldn't find it, I was frustrated because I never woke up that late, I chose to clean myself first before looking for the damn phone again, luckily Arthur had tidied up the table and thrown away the trash so that made my job a little easier.

When I finished taking a shower, I came out of the room and heard my phone ringing, I looked for the source of the sound and I found it waiting for me under the sofa, I immediately took it because Arthur called me, he must be worried because I didn't reply to his message.

“Hello baby, I’m sorry, I overslept, I even slept on the sofa last night, where are you?”

“It’s okay baby, I know you must be tired, I also didn’t have time to tell you last night because I fell asleep, I’m sorry, I’m already at the location, this is really a big project so I have to focus, and I’m not sure if we can meet tonight or not, my boss also asked me to have dinner with him here, with the other team,” Arthur said.

My face immediately changed, especially the smile on my face, it just disappeared when Arthur canceled our meeting in a very subtle way, making me unable to argue with him because this is about work and I always support him.

“Oh it’s okay, you have to show good performance in front of your boss, I will always support you, we can meet on Sunday,”

“Baby…” Arthur said, but somehow I could feel something in his voice, I’m sure we can’t even meet on Sunday.

“What’s wrong? Did your boss also invite you to another project?”

Yes, that was a dig at him, but honestly, he was never this busy, so I was a little surprised by this annoying change, he didn't have time to be with me, at least to chat.

"I'm sorry baby, but my parents asked me to come home on Sunday, they want to talk about something," Arthur said.

"Oh... your parents, that means you have to come there,"

Arthur's parents lived in another city, let's call it a rich people's city because all who lived some had a lot of money, I also lived there when my father was still alive, and I had to leave because that bitch kicked me out of the house, and took all my father's property, the bitch I mean is my stepmother, but she didn't show the figure of a mother at all.

And many of my friends lived there, but of course, they all disappeared one by one as if swallowed by the earth since they found out I had nothing, aka poor.

Since then I chose to live simply because I had no other choice, just living off the remaining money in my account, living in a slum and working odd jobs in convenience stores, becoming a cashier in a cafe and fast food restaurant whatever job I did at that time, and yes that's where we met when I became a cashier for him.

"I'm sorry baby, I'll meet you after all my business is done, you don't need to worry, I always love you, only you," Arthur said.

"No, no don't apologize, it's okay, this is not a big deal Arthur, we can meet after everything is done,"

I wasn't in the mood, but I couldn't show my annoyance like a child in front of him.

"I have to go, I love you, baby," Arthur said and like he did last night, he hung up the phone before I answered his words.

"Really? Doesn't he even want to hear my voice? He hung up the phone so quickly," I just grumbled.

Two days passed…

Bored, I was so bored, Arthur rarely called me because he was busy and yes he never called me when he was with his parents. I never had a problem when it was about work but I don't know why I felt a little troubled when it was about his parents, maybe because I never met them and Arthur never took me there either. Maybe because I was poor and that was a little troublesome for Arthur.

And today I was still at my workplace, in front of the cashier and serving customers who came, my face probably looked annoying at that time because I wasn't in the mood to work. But I couldn't possibly rely on Arthur for all my needs, I didn't want to be called a gold digger.

"Good afternoon sir, welcome to Cheese & Cheese, may I help you with your order?"

A man stood in front of me, he was wearing sunglasses, with a white shirt and brown ankle pants, very fragrant, his style looked old money, but unfortunately I don't like men like that, looks arrogant.

“Double cheeseburger, extra fries, and a large cola, I also want extra pickles and make sure it’s very spicy,”

His voice was very deep, somehow I could feel the sexy vibes coming from his voice, he didn’t look at me he just focused on his phone ringing, it seemed like there were a lot of incoming messages there because I could see the notifications on his phone screen.

After giving his order, he immediately left, I had time to see him until he went out the door but another customer came and messed up my view.

But that’s good, at least I realized if I was too focused on another man, even though there was nothing special about that man, just a stranger, a customer who came to buy a burger at my place, he was different from Arthur who made me fall in love with his smile.

“Sarah, take a break, I’ll continue,” Jodie said.

He is my coworker, the one I can rely on here, I only trust him, I don't even trust my manager, Tommy, he is just a talkative and perverted person, but he never dares to touch me, because my gaze can even pierce his eyes before his hands can touch me.

"Thanks, Jodie, I'll go out for a while, I need some air, here only smells of french fries,"

I immediately took off my apron and hat and left the place through the back door, I always sat there until my break was over, sometimes I missed my lunch because I was busy daydreaming, but this time I didn't want to miss it, I needed to eat, I needed energy to hold back my longing for Arthur.

When I was opening my lunch, I heard someone talking on the phone, not far from where I was sitting. I didn't want to find out where the source of the voice was but the longer the voice disturbed my peace.

I got up from my seat and looked for the voice of the man who was getting more and more familiar to my ears and yes I was right, it was the man with the sunglasses that I had served earlier.

He said something in another language I didn’t know, but it seemed like a serious conversation, so I decided to leave since it wasn’t a fun show and I couldn’t understand what he was saying.

I went back to my lunch place and a stray dog was eating my lunch.

“Hey!!”

I ran and tried to chase it away but it turned its head towards me and looked like it wanted to eat me so I decided to let it enjoy my lunch and I went back inside seeing more customers since it was lunchtime.
