During the ride to my apartment, sans the usual bickering between me and Iason, I couldn’t help but admit that things, had, in fact, changed between me and Andronikos. The thought that he’d definitely go back to his aloof self around me scared me a little, but I decided not to dwell on it too much.
As I walked into my apartment, I heard music coming from my room—a sure sign that Pen had already made herself at home. Iason, under orders from Andronikos, trailed behind me like a pesky fly. I told him he didn’t need to come, but getting rid of him was like trying to take a bone from a dog’s mouth. Impossible.
“Pen, I’m here,” I called out.
I heard commotion from my room before she emerged in her favorite comfort outfit—cut-off jeans and a tank top—squealing loudly.
“Addy!” she screamed, jumping on me in excitement. I laughed, realizing how much I missed her boisterous nature. My life had felt moody without her.
“I missed you, Pen,” I said, hugging her for a little longer than usual. Sensing that I needed comfort, she held me tightly, until I finally let go.
“Are you okay?” she asked, concern etched on her face as she grabbed my shoulders and studied me.
The question gave me déjà vu. But this time, I was going to tell her everything. Well, not everything, because of omerta, but as much as I could without the risk of her being roped into my fucked-up situation.
“Let’s go back to the room,” I replied, grabbing her hand and heading toward my room.
A throat-clearing sound reminded me I didn’t come alone.
“Oh, right. Pen, this is Iason,” I said, gesturing toward him while still holding Pen’s hand. “He’s my… bodyguard?”
Both them gave me questioning looks: Pen, confused, and Iason, giving me a deadpan really? Expression.
I shrugged. What did he expect me to say? That we’re married?
“And Iason, this is—”
“Penelope. A pleasure to meet you, koukla,” he interrupted, stepping forward to take Pen’s free hand and pressing a kiss to it like he hadn’t been ready to blow her head off a while back. And did he just call her a doll?
The sly bastard.
Pen’s eyes widened at the full use of her name. Nobody called her that except her deadbeat father, but that’s a story for another day. She quickly recovered though, smiling slowly, a seductive curve of her lips that told me she was definitely planning to fuck him at some point.
“Hi, Iason. Nice to meet you, too,” she said, practically eye-fucking him.
Yeah, not happening.
“Okayyy… I’m just going to pretend I didn’t see that,” I cringed at the thought of them hooking up. “Come on Pen, let’s go,”
Dragging her away from Iason before she jumped him, I slammed the door to my bedroom and turned to her.
“Nope. Not him. Find someone else.”
She pouted, her big brown eyes widening as she gave me her infamous puppy-dog look. “But he’s so pretty Addy. And did you see the way he was looking at me? He was absolutely feral.” She twirled her hair around her fingers, a dreamy look on her face—the one she always got when she found a new conquest.
I sighed. There was no convincing her out of this one. Hopefully, a one-night stand will be enough to get him out of her system.
“Do you want the details or not?” I said, hopping onto the bed and crossing my legs under me.
She snapped out of her reverie, and joined me, ready to listen as I told her everything—well, almost everything. I told her about the chaotic meeting at the club, being forced to live with him, and, of course, last night.
Her reactions matched every twist of the story, and by the end, she was holding me tightly, actual running down my face.
I sighed, exasperated. “Why are you crying now, Pen?”
She looked up at me, cleaning the corners of her eyes dramatically. “I mean, it’s not fair. You get to live the dark-and-handsome dream life before I do.”
I blinked. Once. Twice.
“I’m just kidding. Maybe.”
We both stared at each other for a moment before breaking into hysterical laughter.
When the laughter subsided, Pen took my hand and looked at me earnestly. “You have to move on, Adira. He’s a bastard anyways for treating you like that. Don’t let him dull your sparkle.”
“Thank you, Penny,” I said, giving her a heartfelt hug. “I really needed that.”
“Anytime Addy.”
We hugged for a while before Pen spoke up.
“So, what’s that hunk’s number?”
This girl, I thought with a laugh.

Two days. Two days, and I haven't seen him.
No, I'm not going to say his name. I'll just ignore him.
And how has that been working out for you?
Shut up brain. Ugh. I can't today. Not with the overthinking, and definitely not with Andronikos.
Damn it, I said his name. You know what? Fuck it.
To stop thinking about him, I buried myself in work, focusing on the company's monthly operational expense reports.
It was supposed to be a routine review, just one of those mind-numbing tasks to pass the time, but something caught my eye. Expenses in the real estate division were... off. The numbers weren't just higher; they were frighteningly odd.
Initially, I'd thought it was due to expansion efforts. Real estate was an important division of the company, constantly growing, with properties being acquired here and there. But on digging deeper, a pattern cropped up: hugely inflated purchase prices and vendor names that were completely unfamiliar to me. It didn't sit right. The record didn’t sit right with me at all.
My suspicions increasing, I asked for itemized invoices from the finance team. Within the hour, a neat file landed on my desk courtesy of the CFO, who had also flagged similar concerns.
Fucking hell, I thought, fear bubbling to the surface.
I picked up the phone and called the company's CFO.
"Have you noticed anything amiss in the company's real estate accounts?" I asked, my temper rising at the thought that he hadn’t reported this to me sooner.
There was a pause before he answered me, and in my line of work, that was usually never a good sign.
"Actually yes. I've been meaning to bring it up. Some of the recent property acquisitions seem suspicious. A few vendor names aren't in our system, and some payments were flagged for irregularities. I didn't want to jump to conclusions, too soon."
I gripped my head in frustration. "You didn't..." Fuck. "Get me everything you have on these transactions—approval histories, vendor records, payment timelines—every single fucking thing. And do it quietly. If this is what I think it is, we might have a colossal problem on our hands. Got it?"
"Yes ma'am. I'll send the files to you as soon as possible." he said.
An hour later, I had everything laid out on my desk. As I started sifting through the files, the pieces of the puzzle began to fall into place.
Someone was stealing from my family. Somehow, I'd missed it, but someone—presumably within the real estate division—was siphoning money from the company, threatening everything my dad and I had worked so hard to build.
My father can’t know about this— at least not yet. But I was going to find the person or people responsible for this no matter what it takes.
Adira’s nails dug into my chest, her moans echoing in the dim room, the light streaming through the windows the only source of illumination. Her body moved against mine in a perfect rhythm, each motion sending shivers down my spine.Somehow, she’d found her way on top of me, riding me as though I were her personal steed—and in this moment, I guess I was. She looked wild and unrestrained, her curls tumbling down her shoulders in a beautiful, chaotic mess. I gripped her hips, guiding her movements as my breathing grew ragged.“Nikos,” she whimpered, her voice trembling. “You feel so good.” She leaned down to kiss me, her lips soft and intoxicating.I could only groan in response, overwhelmed by the feel of her walls clenching around me. The way she moved, the fire in her eyes—she was everything I’d ever wanted. But suddenly, her face began to blur, her whimpers turning distorted and faint. A chill ran through me as I tried to hold onto her, but she slipped away, dissolving like mist bet
“A warning Nónos. This person isn’t playing games anymore,” Iason said, his gaze steady as he looked at me from beneath the glasses perched on his nose. We were seated amidst a mess of documents, desperately trying to piece together which enemy might be targeting us–targeting my little flame. Shortly after the attack, we managed to reach my mansion at Sagaponack–my current hideaway from Adira as I was obviously avoiding her. Adira! Shit“Iason, triple the guards tailing Adira. I don’t care about her complaints–they don’t leave her side unless she’s sleeping or shitting. Katanoito?”(Understood?)He nodded sharply. “Will do boss. But we need to figure out who this person is, and why we’re handling it alone?”I looked up at that, surprised and annoyed at his naivety. “Because the possibility of a mole is very high, Iason.” I resumed combing through the papers spread out in front of me. “Now, tell me, how many people knew about the meeting today?” His expression shifted as the realiza
The guards, except the unusually happy one, behaved like I didn’t exist. They were like immovable statues—or in the case of the patrolling ones, mobile statues.I won’t lie, I did entertain the thought of putting whip cream on their faces to see if they’d react to that instead. But I ignored that thought after weighing the pros and cons. They probably wouldn’t laugh at my idea of a joke anyway. And yet you wondered what Iason meant when he told you not to do anything stupid. I really need to revisit Dr. Shane and ask for meds to shut my brain down for a while. As the hours dragged on, I found it increasingly irritating that Andronikos managed to ghost me for three days, without so much as a text. It was just the cherry on top of my super aggravating sundae.I decided to head to the kitchen to make myself some dinner. The cheerful third guard, whom I’d nicknamed ‘Smiley’ in my head, followed close behind. His overly enthusiastic footsteps echoed in the otherwise silent apartment.“You
“Stupid, stupid, stupid,” I muttered to myself as I banged my head repeatedly against the shower door.I wasn’t meant to go to her, but somehow, even after trying desperately to avoid her, I found my way to her door. Like a moth to a flame, I couldn’t ignore her presence anymore, and I stupidly sat on her bed, using the faint moonlight streaming through her windows to study her face.I missed her. And though I know it was a stupid move telling her that, I just couldn’t not tell her. And the way she sprang up to help, even when she didn’t have to, just made me more enamored with her—a battle I was constantly losing as the days went on.I meticulously cleaned myself in the shower, trying to avoid wetting the newly wrapped gauze Adira had put on me. Looking at the wounds that were definitely going to add to the stash of scars on my body, my mind couldn’t help but wonder to what had led me to this moment.“Nónos, this is a very stupid idea, and you damn well know it.” I ignored Iason’s r
One of the things I hated with a passion in this miserable world was waking up angry—and no one but Andronikos is to blame for it.How dare he walk into my room, all bloody and shit, and tell me that he misses me after ghosting me for God knows how long? And I’m supposed to what? Fall on my knees and thank him for thinking about me?You know what? Fuck that bastard. I don’t have time for his shit today. I had problems at the company to handle, and entertaining his drama wasn’t on my agenda. After taking a shower, I threw on my usual corporate outfit, ignoring the lingering tension from last night, and headed downstairs to the kitchen. But guess who was already there? That’s right—the fucking demon and his obedient hellhound right behind him.I didn’t acknowledge them. Didn’t even give them a glance. I marched straight to the fridge, pulled out the leftovers from last night, and angrily shoved them into the microwave.“Adira,” Andronikos’ voice called to me, smooth yet sharp enough to
My office at the pharmaceutical company—a front for our illegal business—overlooked the city of New York. Ironic, really, considering I’m also involved in illegal drugs. Through the window, I watched the city, waiting patiently for Georgios to come to me. I’d had time to think about what happened at the trafficking ring and had finally concluded that it was him. But first, I was going to get it out of him.A knock at the door, interrupted my thoughts.“Come in,” I called out, my hands in my pockets as I continued to stare out the window.“Hello, Nikos,” a voice said from behind me.Turning around swiftly, I realized it was none other than Nefeli. How the fuck did she get in here? She moved toward me, assuming what she probably thought was a seductive gait. I really don’t know what I ever saw in her.“Don’t worry. Your staff let me in,” she purred. “Obviously, only you seemed to have forgotten how good we were together before you met that whore. But I’ll let it slide.”Before she utter
I’ve been in the hospital with my mom a day now, and her condition only seems to be getting worse. She woke up a few hours after the doctor had given us her prognosis. Since then, she has been in and out of sleep, only waking up occasionally to eat, drink, or use the toilet.I still refuse to believe that Mama’s chances are slim. She’s strong. Always has been, and I know she’ll fight this too. She just needs us by her side.I was still lost in thought when my phone buzzed. Annoyed, I frowned—hadn’t I everyone not to disturb me today? I was wrong. It’s fucking hard, and at this point, I’m of the opinion that Kace is a fucking psycho. For the past two hours, we’ve been at it without a single break. Kace has been trying to teach me the proper fighting stance, and let’s just say, I’m failing at it—badly.“You have to stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, boss lady,” he said, circling me as he instructed. “Balance is everything—unless you want someone to kill you?”The fuck, I thought, giving him a stink eye.“What?” he shrugged.Dick.Heading toward me, he let out a heavy sigh, eyeing the form I’d been battling with for what felt like forever.“Your left foot should be slightly forward. Not too much, not at the same level as your right, and definitely not behind,” he said, pushing my leg into the correct position.Annoyed, I jerked my leg out of his hand and stormed off toward the bench in front of the wide, floor- length gym mirror.“You know you can’t give up now, boss lady. Besides, you were almost getting it.
I ran my fingers over Adira’s back, her head resting in the crook of my arm. She traced slow circles on my skin, a comfortable silence settling between us.“How long do you think it’ll take them to find me?”My fingers froze.“I mean, I’m just stating the obvious. They managed to hurt you, so it isn’t far-fetched that they’ll get me soon. At this point, I just think they’re stalling.”Her words, though grim, carried a biting edge of truth. But I didn’t need her worrying about that.“Look at me, flogítsa mou,” I said, gently gripping her chin. She reluctantly lifted her gaze to mine, and in her eyes, I saw clearly the fear she’d obviously been trying to hide from me. My little flame was scared.“As long as I’m here, Adira, I promise, no one is going to get to you or your family. I’m the only one with permission to do that. Understand?”She nodded, her full lips forming a sad pout. Unable to resist, I kissed her.One thing led to another, and soon, I was inside her again, making slow, p
The threats hadn’t come in days, and though everything seemed quiet, I knew this was just the calm before the storm.Like a lion, the enemy lay in wait for its prey to sleep, and I was going to make sure we never shut our eyes.“How’s the training going, Kace?” I asked Adira’s assigned bodyguard, though I already knew the answer. The cameras I’d installed a while ago—for her protection, of course—allowed me to watch them and her. Hence why she was made to wear leggings instead of shorts like before.I can’t let another man look at my woman’s ass.“It’s going well, boss. She’s greatly improving, but she still has a long way to go.”I nodded in response. My little flame was strong and smart, so I knew she’d pick up fast, but the issues she was facing will be a big detriment to her focus and I couldn’t allow that.“I want you to work with Iason on something,” I started, turning to regard Kace. “Someone has managed to swindle Adira in her company, and she’s in knots over who the person is
