Verania’s Point of View

"Trust me, you have done nothing wrong. But believe me or not, you don't really love me the way you think you do."

My eyebrows nearly met in the middle as my brain processed what he just said.

"I love you, what are you talking about?" I retort.

"Verania, I know you love me. But from what I see now, you love me only as a friend."

"Rubbish!" I counter, shaking my head in disbelief.

"Verania, listen. You can deny it, but your true love is for Ares! Your eyes are silently telling me that it's him! The way you wanted to catch the culprit, the way you wanted to protect him, the way you say his name, I know... you love him!"

No! What is Alder saying? I don't love Ares, what is he talking about?!

"You're fooling yourself! I do all that because of my conscience and because he's my friend. Drop the notion that I love him! It's not true, I know what I feel, and you're wrong!" I try to assert.

He rises from the swing and locks his gaze with mine.

"No, Verania, you're decei

Verania's Point of ViewBefore permitting our eyes to once again converge, I attentively directed my attention towards Alder. He acknowledged my signal and seemingly comprehended the cue, prompting him to quietly depart from my vicinity, perhaps to explore elsewhere. My sincere apologies, Alder, for imposing on your time...I opted to await Alder's departure from my line of sight before reorienting my focus towards Ares' position. With deliberate steps, I advanced towards him. Our eyes engaged in a locked gaze, upholding the gravity of my expression. Nonetheless, Ares' gaze seemed to intensify in seriousness.I expressed my gratitude that he remained rooted in his spot. The world around us seemed to decelerate as I approached him gradually. The moment I drew near, surprise was etched across my face as a clear liquid trickled down one of his eyes. It slowly slid down his cheek. He didn't make any move to wipe it away; his eyes remained fixed on me. I reconnected our gazes to read the

Verania's Point of ViewHis cold gaze met mine, a sly grin playing on his lips as he began to speak."You probably already know the reason for your summons..." he said seriously but seemed to take pleasure in delivering the message."You were supposed to guard Mr. Ares Montero, the son of Mayor Stanley Montero. However, due to your negligence and prioritizing your desires, you allowed the enemy to strike freely since you were not at the exact location when the attack happened," he started."Many held you in high regard for your combat skills; that's why they allowed Victorino to put you in that position. But I just can't fathom, Portier, why did you leave?" he questioned.I lowered my head to hide my reactions. It was better to get straight to the point."Do you know that the enemies almost destroyed Montero's residence? Fortunately, one of your colleagues managed to call for backup from headquarters and arrived in time to secure the Monteros' home. Ares was found unharmed, and the cr

Verania's Point of ViewIt was already afternoon when I woke up, and I decided to head back home to get some sleep and rest.Ares' house was currently being arranged due to some damaged belongings, so I didn't plan on staying there for now, as I was sure I would get a lecture.Upon leaving my room, I had already finished bathing, so I went straight to the kitchen to have a meal."Sister Linda, is Papa at work?" I asked a house helper I found in the kitchen."Yes, Vera. They were surprised when they found out you came home.""Ah, is that so? Alright then. After I eat, I'll be leaving. Please inform them that I've left for work again," I politely replied, and Sister Linda smiled at me, so I proceeded to eat. After finishing everything, I headed to the hospital to visit Gabriella.I revved up my motorcycle towards the hospital, and upon arriving there, I visited the room where Gabriella was currently resting.Upon entering her room, I noticed she was wide awake, although she was alone, l

Verania’s Point of ViewI was about to quicken my pace through the hospital's corridor when I abruptly halted, my gaze fixing on Ares. He was strolling casually, a basket in one hand, its contents seemingly a collection of fruits. Here he was again, at the hospital. What could be the reason for his presence now?My heart quickened its rhythm as our eyes met, and a surge of emotions threatened to overwhelm me. Earlier, I had wanted to initiate a conversation, but now, with him standing right in front of me, I found myself wishing to dissolve into the ground. It was puzzling why my demeanor had shifted so drastically from what I had intended.I involuntarily blinked in surprise as I noticed Clara beside him. So, they were together...A thought occurred to me: were they the only ones who had come here? Did they not have any bodyguards or companions accompanying them? What if something befell Ares again?Pushing aside the rising sense of embarrassment within me, I gathered my courage and

Verania's Point of View"What are we going to talk about?" I asked when we reached the side of their pool."Sit down first," she calmly stated, pointing to the chair in front of her. I didn't complain and sat down."Manang!" she called out cheerfully to a housemaid passing by the pool."Yes, dear, what is it?""Could you get us some juice to drink, thank you.""Sure, dear, I'll bring it over."When Manang left, Olivia turned to me again."Earlier this morning, I found out that you left here, which led to an attack on the house, is that correct?" she began.I bowed my head and nodded, which made her sigh."I want to be angry, but I can't. I know that every situation involving my brother and father is dangerous, so I don't have the right to be mad at you. Whatever I feel, it's just annoyance because you still can't do your job properly," she paused, so I looked up."You should be thankful that my brother wasn't harmed. Next time you're given a task like this, focus on your job," she add

Verania’s Point of View"Yes, perhaps being with you makes him happy at the moment, but knowing how you feel, his happiness won't be enough."Why do his words struck like knives in my chest? Why do I feel heaviness in my heart?I keep stating I do not love Ares, but why am I feeling like this?"Can I ask you something?"I seized the opportunity to ask when I sensed the calmness in the atmosphere."Go on," she replied and it felt like a cold breeze passed through my skin, and she spoke like she doesn't care how wet my face was with tears."May I know why you hate me so much?" I summoned all my strength just to ask that question."Wow, you really want to know? Okay, no worries, I'll tell you why," she paused and took a sip from her glass."It's because I saw how my brother falls in love with you," she continued, furrowing my brow in confusion."If that's your reason, how do you explain the things that used to anger you about me? If I'm not mistaken, Ares only started liking me recently

Verania's Point of ViewAs soon as I entered the door of our home, I was greeted by Mama. She was sitting on the sofa, wearing glasses, and her eyes were fixed on the book she held. However, when she sensed my presence, she voluntarily closed her book and slowly shifted her gaze toward me, while removing her glasses.A restrained smile appeared on my lips, then I looked away. I was about to head straight to my room, but Mama quickly tracked me with her steps and stopped me from proceeding."What happened to your eyes? They're so swollen. Don't you dare tell me it's just something in your eye, even your eyebags are puffy," Mama said directly. It's really hard having a mom who's an attorney; you can never lie to her.My mom knows when I am lying, she doesn't say I'm lying but she becomes very inquisitive whenever she feels I am. So, in the end, I still end up telling the truth."Before you answer, let's sit on the sofa," she said calmly and walked back to where she was sitting earlier.

I could've moved it, couldn't I? Why did I choose this day? It's annoying; I'm not satisfied with what's happening around me, I feel suffocated even though there's no reason to."How was your suspension?" I almost jumped when I heard Ma'am Charlotte's gentle voice.I didn't expect her to start with that topic. Actually, I was waiting for her to get mad and blame me because Ares almost got into trouble again."It's fine, but somewhat sad," I replied. She nodded slowly and looked down."I was actually mad at you yesterday, but when I heard Victorino's explanation, your captain, I was able to forgive you," I blinked at her words. What did Captain say to Ma

Third Person's Point of ViewThe time and hour of Ares' departure has indeed come. He was accompanied by his grandfather, Thaddeus Montero.Just like what Verania thought during the times she tried to convince Ares, he did not join her.Ares texted her that he'll wait at the airport for her before he finally leaves, but Verania didn't even think about going. She knows that she'll ruin everything again once she goes to him. That's why instead of heading straight to the airport, he went to Olivia's bar. It was noon, so there were no people inside, just Verania and of course Olivia, who was serving drinks to the young woman."I didn't think you would choose to drink rather than take Kuya home," Olivia said to Verania, who was playing with the ice in her drink. She's drinking non-alcoholic beverages, which is why she has the confidence to down each glass without hesitation."Is that a joke?" Verania raised an eyebrow when asked that.Olivia couldn't help but laugh when Vera asked such a q

Verania's Point of ViewIt has been a month since the culprit responsible for the harm to the lives of Tito Stan and Ares was caught.I also haven't really noticed the swift passage of the months. Even my feelings, I didn't notice the change.I have missed many things because of the amount of attention I give to what I'm doing, especially at work. Sometimes I fail, but I don't dwell on it and often use those experiences as motivation for what I'm currently doing and for what I will do in the near future.Of course, the elections just finished, and who won the governorship? It's none other than Tito Stan, and it seems that the one who took over the position of Congressman is also quite decent. He is often busy now because of the many things he has to take care of, but even so, his worries have lessened, especially since those who wanted to harm them are no longer free.As for Tita Charlotte, she managed their other sources of income while Olivia stayed in charge of managing their main

Sid said goodbye with a broad smile, while Gustavo grimaced at Sid's question. "Who among them?" Is Ares there? The tone of the Congressman’s question is lazy. "Oh, I wish it were possible." "Go ahead, before I change my mind," Gustavo responded lazily as he lowered his gun. Meanwhile, Sid tightly gripped the gun and cocked it. He slowly raised his arm and aimed the gun at Ares, startling Verania. Verania's eyes widened and her heart began to race. She didn't know what to do to stop Sid from going through with what he was about to do to the young man next to her. She wanted to run and approach Sid to snatch the gun from him, but with Ares's tight grip on her hand, she hesitated whether to leave his side. That's why, when she saw that Sid was ready to pull the trigger, she blocked her body in front of the young man

Gabriella's complaint is that she has already tied up and brought down quite a number of their opponents."Miss Gab, we still can't find First Lieutenant Sir Ares, and the same goes for Greg," Tristan said as he approached Gab, who was currently stretching."Search carefully, I know this place is big and has many twists and turns, but you will find them, just hurry up, it's exhausting to avoid the attacks from the enemies here!" The young woman complained, and Tristan quickly saluted and followed Gab's instructions; he informed his colleagues of the young woman's orders to speed things up."Second Lieutenant," called Josefa, one of Verania's group, to Gabriella, who immediately turned around. "Where is Captain Vic?" Verania asked angrily, her sarcasm still evident."I'm kidding if I said I'm letting you go and then I tighten the bonds on you." Verania fell silent when she heard Cristoforo's reply, as if she had been doused with cold ice by what he said to her.She couldn't believe it, she didn't know why he would want to let her go when her father, Gustavo Donatelli, was on his side?Verania's mind started to think that maybe Cristoforo was going crazy."Why are you doing this?" Verania asked without restraint when he finally removed the chain from her foot. There were many padlocks there, so it was no wonder it took so long to remove."I'm a double agent," he stopped removing the chain to look up at Verania. "I am under my father but, I am also under someone from your side and I am more loyal to him than to Dad, who I know has only a f

Third Person's Point of View"Boss, someone found us!" a man shouted loudly to Gustavo, causing Verania's face to brighten, as whoever it was could surely save Ares."And how did they find us? Only we know about this place!" Gustavo held his grip firmly as he spoke, his eyes shifting back to the man who informed him of the situation outside."Create a distraction, block whoever they are!" Gustavo shouted again, and the man who had just been there quickly disappeared from sight."Don't let them get here!" he added, prompting the others who were just inside to quickly rush out of the room they were in, likely to confront the people outside. Now, Gustavo's gaze fell on his son, Cristoforo, so Vera did the same. She directed her eyes to Cristoforo."Ares and Vera, we'll take them to the other headquarters where our other comrades are," Gustavo calmly instructed his son Cristoforo, who quickly went to where Verania was sitting. The noise o

Third Person's Point of ViewHe nodded at her, indicating his confidence had eased Ares' heart, so he slowly approached them and attempted to listen to their conversation, for in the eyes of the young Ares, there seemed to be something peculiar there, and like something he delighted in doing, he took out a small notebook from his pocket and a recording pen."What are you doing?" Tirso whispered, but instead of answering, he just gave his friend a very wicked look.He sharpened his ears and earnestly listened to the conversation. Though he couldn't understand it internally, he couldn't deny that he enjoyed this kind of conversation, as many things were revealed.Another dream of the boy's heart was to become a detective like he had read in his mother's book.Indeed, Ares started listing down the things he heard, but instead of using the Filipino Alphabet, he used a code that only he could crack for sure, of course, because he was the only one who knew it since he made it himself.Never

Vera's voice trembled with anxiety as she asked Gustavo, who was smiling. One by one, more members of the enemy's group entered the room, increasing the pounding in Vera's chest. She didn't know what could be done about them."Why?" Vera's question came out weakly."I've really wanted to tell you everything since earlier, I just waited for my surprises to arrive," Gustavo said, and Verania remained nervously attentive."Because you seem very interested, I expect you to listen eagerly to every detail I'll say," Gustavo added sincerely, and Vera took a deep breath and nodded, prompting Gustavo to start. This thing happened years ago.It all began with a boy named Ares, nine years old and currently in the third grade. That day was one of the happiest events in his life, perhaps the day he made a friend at school who wasn't his cousin. The boy who became his friend was named Alder, and he was even happier when he found out that their

I ignored it and waited for Gustavo, his father, to respond."Ah, don't worry, he's not here," he replied with a smirk, which somehow calmed me down a bit."And I want to tell you something..." Gustavo paused to glance at Cristoforo, whose eyes were still fixed on me."What? What do you want to say?" I asked, not breaking eye contact with Cristoforo."Cristoforo is the gunner of Ares' car. Cris told me you saw his eyes that night."My blood boiled upon hearing what he said.He did what? He's the one who shot? No wonder I felt something off when I saw him. I also tried to analyze his eyes now and that night of Ares' accident. Why didn't I notice? Why didn't I notice they were the same? Why did I blame Alder for this?I'm so stupid!Even though tightly bound, I tried to break free while glaring intensely at Cristoforo."Calm down, Vera. I didn't bring you here to hurt anyone," Gustavo said wit
