“Jason,”
Jazz quickly approached the boy. These last two days she noticed he kept himself apart from everyone. She was still uncertain but was acting on a gut feeling around him. If she was reading the signs correctly the boy has trust issues. She felt drawn to him almost like she should protect him. She remembers being very independent after losing her parents but there was something else going on with the boy.
“Is something wrong Jazz?” he quickly sits up straight closing his school books.
“No, I am just letting you know I am going out for an hour. Will you be okay?”
“Yes, Jazz,”
“Okay, can we have a movie night later?”
“I would like that. Maybe we can ask Jack to join us.” He asked hopeful.
“That’s an idea. Just so you know, I am not into romantic stories, I like scary or action packed.” She grinned when she saw she hit the right note for movie night. She hugged him again before leaving.
Jason watched her, silent tears streaming down his face. He quickly looked around relief when he noticed there was no servants close. He quickly learned they moved around like unseen ghosts.
Jack stood at the study window looking at his wife leaving the grounds. He timed the movements when he saw his ‘man’ reacting. He looked at the surveillance photos in his hands. He did a background check on the Duncan family. He always covers his back. He didn’t like what he learned about Eva Duncan. That woman should be watched, she will not get another chance to play his wife for a fool. He frowns wondering what Jazz remembers about that night. He certainly was in conflict about how she would react. A brief smiled played around his lips when he remembers she was a wild card. He found a moment’s pleasure in remembering the shock on his ex-girlfriend’s face when Jazz stripped and left his study proudly naked. Her warning still ringing in his own ears, ‘what’s mine stays mine’. That very statement settles a possessive protective feeling in his heart. He turned away, knowing Jazz should find out what’s going on behind her back on her own. Life has a harshness about it that can make you bleed while silent tears streamed down your face. He learned a long time ago to wiped away his own tears.
Jazz stood in front of her boyfriends’ apartment. She looked at the ring on her finger feeling uncertain about what she was doing. The moment she signs that document as Jazz Duncan Warren, something shifted within her. This was just a contract between two strangers living together now, but to the world she was now a married woman. She always lived according to certain rules. It doesn’t matter that the marriage wasn’t real, she refuses to play the man a fool.
“What should I do?” she questions herself.
In open conflict with herself she starts to paced in front of the building while wringing her hands. She still remembers her parents loving each other, she was raised in such an environment. That was always the life she desired for herself, since meeting Allan Black two years ago she insist they take their relationship slow. The security door of the apartment suddenly opened. The tenant holds the door for her winking at her.
“Thanks, “she mouthed before entering. Full of conflict as she slowly walked towards the familiar red door which she helped painted. She frowned when she found the door slightly ajar hearing music coming from inside. She smiled wondering if he was working from his apartment today. As a professional dancer he can be temperamental. He usually does this when he had an argument with either another dancer or possibly a director. He loved following his own rules, whereas she was a stickler for rules. Taking a deep breath, she pushed the door wider and stepped inside. She discovered three bottles of red wine and half eaten snacks. Frowning as she wonders about this very puzzled. Her body suddenly froze when she heard the soft laughter. It suddenly sounded over familiar but she can’t place the moment.
“What the fuck are you doing baby?”
Jazz instantly recognized her cousins voice. Her heart felt like it just dropped to the floor.
“Patience, baby cake, I am coming,” Allan Black answered.
Jazz’s heart shattered into pieces and her illusions of a trusted relationship.
“You know, Allan, I wonder about that fool that was so eager to marry that idiot cousin of mine.”
“You just had to remind me; I wasn’t finished with Jazz.”
“What’s your bloody obsession with her anyways? It wasn’t like you were fucking her.” Eva said in a nasty tone.
“I love you baby cakes but your lousy reputation helps with nothing. Jazz comes clean-cut and trustworthy.”
“Bastard,” she hissed.
“Bitch in heat,” he declares with obvious satisfaction.
Jazz tries her best to move her frozen legs disgusted by what she was hearing standing in the hall.
“I wonder if that man managed to fuck that frigid bitch?”
“I doubt it, Jazz believes in loyalty and marriage. That guy just bought her for a year.” Allan said annoyed. “I hope she at least sign a contract.”
“Why,”
“Compensation for a years’ worth of work.” Allan said sounding openly greedy and jealous.
“Enough me now.” Eva instructed.
“Eva,”
“What?”
“Do you think Jazz remembers the night at the club?”
“No and it was a waste of time and effort. Someone wiped the whole footage from the internet.”
“I still have a copy on my cell phone.” Allan bragged. “Maybe I will get money from it.”
“Show me later, fuck me now,” Eva instructed.
Jazz stood outside the apartment. She wants to vomit but can’t. She looked at the phone she bought Allan as a gift.
“What did they do?” she whispered in fear.
Hearing steps running down the stairs she suddenly bolted running down the length of the street. She saw the taxi and run straight for it. The quick driver climbed back into the front. Starting the vehicle.
She looked over her shoulder to see if anyone followed her. The street stayed empty.
“Where to Missus Warren?” the driver asked.
Jazz felt her head was ripping from her neck as she swiftly faces the driver in shock.
“Who are you? How do you know my position?”
“I work for Jack Warren.” The man answered simple and honest.
“Did…did you follow me?” she asked openly shocked.
“Yes ma’am.”
“Why,”
“Your husband asked that I watch over you.”
“Why,”
“My job is to keep the media away from you. Jack Warren hates them with a passion.”
“Why,”
“That you must ask him ma’am.”
“Stop calling me ma’am, I am not ancient.” Jazz suddenly snap furious feeling stupid for trusting Allan Black.
“Where too?” the man asked with suppressed laughter in his voice.
“Duncan Estate.” She sits back looking at the phone.
“Hello grandmother,” Jazz stepped into the tea lounge.
“I have been waiting for your arrival.” Tina Duncan looked sharply at her. She noticed that something was wrong with Jazz. “What happened?”
“Nothing, do I have permission to remove some personal belongings from the mansion?”
“What’s with the attitude Jazz?”
“How am I suppose to behave, grandmother? You sold me to a stranger for a year.”
“Why were you naked in that seedy motel room?”
“I don’t know. How did you know where to find me?”
Tina Duncan looked pointedly at her beloved granddaughter. A fury was starting to build in her eyes. She slowly took the tea cup and thoughtfully start drinking.
“You finally made your choice grandmother, now you and Eva can have a delightful time together. Do I have permission to remove my belongings?”
“What will you do if I refuse?”
“I do love the notion of being a nudist,” Jazz said flatly.
Tina Duncan choked on her lemon tasted tea.
“Are you trying to kill grandmother Jazz?” Eva made an appearance gently slapping the older woman on the back.
Jazz packed several of her most precious belongings. She then sends a maid to call in her driver. While she waited, she starts to searched for her dolphin necklace but can’t seemed to find it. This has her very worried. The piece of jewelry belonged to her mother. Puzzled she stood in the middle of the bedroom. “May I enter?” the driver stood politely outside her bedroom. “Yes,” “Get out of my way.” Eva stormed past the man. “Get out,” she ordered. The man stood motionless looking at Eva. “Are you deaf,” she screamed. “No, I only obey my Missus,” he said calmly. “You are not bloody serious,” the disbelieve in her voice very obvious. She actually stormed the man with the intension of pushing him out. He stood rooted in one spot just looking at her bored. Jazz briefly smiled before she nods for the man to take her luggage downstairs. She then turned to face her irate cousin. “What do you want Eva?” “Where are you going?” she asked in a confronted tone. “What is it to you, E
Jack glared at the phone in his hand. At first, he didn’t understand why William handed it to him.“May I enter, sir?”Jack looked pointedly at his ‘man’ waiting for an answer.“Sir, your wife left it in the car when she rushed to enter.” He starts with explaining.“What do you mean?” Jack feels like hitting someone. He may have married her on contract but really no one was going to play her for a fool.“As you know I followed her to where she went. I noticed she was acting very doubtful, almost like she wasn’t certain about her actions. In front of this apartment complex she was pacing back and forth.”“That’s very curious,” Jack observed.“Indeed sir, and she seemed have an active conversation with herself,” a small smiled quickly played around his lips.“Excuse me!” Jack wasn’t certain he heard correctly.
“I am a married woman, oh why, oh, did that happened,” Jazz sings while standing awkwardly in the shower, the strong arms holding in her position. Apparently, no shame in being naked with the man being a stranger.“What should I do, what should I do,” She giggles then spurted water when a silent Jack pushed her soapy head under the water.“Excuse me!” she wiped the water from her face.“You better finish before I dropped you. Next time call one of the maids to help you,” Jack growls while reaching to shut the water of.“I am not married to a bloody maid, and besides you did lie saying for better or worse,”“It was just words,” he declares.“Its what you think,” Jazz wipes the wet hair from her face then slowly turning in the arms holding her. She slowly looked up into his scowling face. “Really, what’s with the expression Jack?&r
The drums are calling, the drums are beating, the drums echoing the warning…Jack was restless and tense in his sleep. He tried opening his eyes but everything stayed dark around him.He can taste the fear in his mouth on his tongue. He tried fighting the invisible hands holding him down.“Jack don’t look,” said the voice somewhere in the darkness.“Who are you?” he tried asking but it felt like his lips are barely moving. It felt like his body was drenched in sweat.Again, he tried waking up but it seemed like he stayed trapped in the nightmare. He doesn’t know the hour of the night nor the reason but at last he managed to wake up. His first sleepy impression was the bright moonlight through the open curtains.Something caught and draw his attention, his gaze fixed on the door that stood slightly ajar. This puzzles him.“Jack,” called the voice. He starts to follow the voice. Once he reached his door, he carefully pushed it opened. The hall looked shadowy. Uncertain about what to do.
Jack unlocked the motel building. He noticed some faded footsteps in the dust on the cracked tile flooring. The entrance was filled with trash. Since he was here a couple of weeks ago someone thought it best to turn a locked place into a dumping place. Grim face his purposefully walked towards the room where he was raised. He instantly noticed the door stood opened. With his hand casually on his gun he steps closer. He slowly kicked the door wider stepping inside. The place was empty except for a bundle of clothes strewn over the dirty bed. He frowned stepping closer. He was instantly disgusted when he understood what he was looking at. Some perverted use the panties to ejaculate on and it seem like it was done recently.Jazz…he thought, remembering she was naked when he found her here. It means the bastard had brought the clothes back. “I will know who you are one way or another.” He softly vowed. He looked around and noticed the floor board
Jazz looked the screen when the phone ring for the umpteenth time. She has been avoiding her cousin like the plague not trusting her. She looked at her leg the cast letting her skin itch like crazy. She leaned back in her chair reaching for the book. The repeated messages followed like rapid shots. Annoyed she reached for the phone. It instantly rings in her hand.“What do you want Eva?”“Where are you?”“It is not of your concerned. I would appreciate it if you stop calling me.”“Don’t hang up,” Eva hastily said.“I have nothing to say to you Eva,” she snapped.“Grandmother died,” she screamed.Jazz felt her heart stop beating for a moment. She needs to take a couple of serious breaths to calm herself. Her knuckles were white with the strength of her hold.“Jazz…”“I don’t believe you.”“It’s true, Jazz.”“When did she die?”“A couple of days ago,” Eva said quickly.“It took you a couple of days to let me know she was dead, Eva. How dare you.”“The moment she died I was scared so I r
Jack was very furious but his quiet truth, he was shaken. He can’t believe what Carly nearly did in her fury to get back at him. He keeps pacing his floor not looking at the two who just sits there watching him. He knew should he now looked at them he would explode.“Do you mind,” Jazz finally asked.Jack immediately stopped his pacing facing her. It was clear the fury flashing in his dark eyes. His lips grimly pressed together.“What did you say?” he queries in the softest voice that clearly spells trouble.“I ask you to stop pacing since you are making me dizzy,” Jazz lift her head defiantly.“You were very irresponsible Jazz,” he declares.“Oh really,” she looked at him then searches for her crutches but it was nowhere. “Dart,” she mumbled.“What’s that you mumbled?”“What is your problem Jack?”“You dare
“You are not seriously going to gobble down that whole bowl of pudding?” Jack sounded shock. He had been watching in awe as the two were clearly enjoying themselves.“It’s pudding Jack,” Jason said between spoonful of pudding.” He managed a giggle into the mix.He just sits there looking at them. He can’t ever remember as a child enjoying sweets as it wasn’t allowed. He wonders what had happened in the movies with Jazz. She somehow also had a moment of panic. He looked down at his hand still seeing the imprints on his skin.“Are you really not going to try?” Jason seemed a bit disappointed.Jack looked into his eyes, seeing the hope but also uncertainty. He took the again offered spoon from a now silent Jazz. His first spoonful of the tasty mixed bowl of fruits, nuts and custard surprised him.“I told you it was delicious.” Jason stood and went to play at the old fashion pinball machine.“How often do you come here, Jazz?”“How did you guess?” she asked with a small smile.“The waitre
Running…. running, need to hide. Nowhere was safe. Can hear his laughter. Need to slip away from what doesn’t work. Where is he? Why is he hiding… Warm tears stream down her face. She can’t reach out to wipe it away. She tried opening her eyes but she can’t see. Something covers her sight. She tried calling to find out who was with her, sometimes she senses the presence of someone circling around. Her heart beat wildly until she realized she wasn’t afraid of the unseen person. Darkness settles around her again. She tried not going into that tunnel, afraid of where he might be lurking. He enjoyed staying in the dense coverage of the island taunting her. She has the instinct to get up and run but she can’t move. She keeps fighting but the darkness was too powerful… She was now somewhere in the depths of her unconscious mind seeing herself as a person of one. She makes stillness into a quietness that resemblance invisibility. She needs to escape his cloying presence. Running…running…
Jack sit looking across the ocean. His body still feels weak but he was no longer so thirsty. Sometimes he kept looking at his ring wondering why Jazz never calls. He watched the fisher men trying to catch the meal for the day in the harbor. Sometimes he looked towards where his brother was playing with other kids on the beach. It was clear he was enjoying his time.“Son,”Julie touch him on his shoulder before sitting down across from him.“Hello Mom, everything okay?” he looked at her and also noticed the difference in her.“That’s the very question I wanted to ask you. You seem sad,”“I am just thinking Mom,”“Is this about Jazz?”Jack turned to look at her. “Did you hear from her?”“No but I did talk to her grandmother. I want to go back.”“Are you taking Jason too?”“It’s time that he gets stability in his life.” Julie started fiddling with her fingers especially her rings. It draws his attention since it was what he has been doing. “There is something else I need to tell you Jac
Jazz just woke up feeling restless. She jumped out of bed restless. She kept wondering if Jack was okay. At the same time, she refuses to intrude into his time with his family. According to her accounting, Jack’s medical expenses came to a halt. To her mind the doctor managed to help him and if something were wrong at least Julie would have let her know.Opening the shower door, her morning ritual was quick and to the point. Stepping out again Eva was waiting for her. “Morning,” she starts to dress in her usual sportive outfit.“Are we going somewhere Jazz?”“Why you ask?”“It seems you are back to being you.”Jazz looked puzzled a moment before understanding her cousin’s meaning.“I like my way; beside can you truly see me as a sophisticated person?”Eva laughed. “What’s your plans for the day?”“I am going out on the boat. Where is Brazen James? By the way why are you calling him that?” Jazz satisfied with her easy look start to walk towards the kitchen. She quickly noticed the man
Jazz stepped into the coffee shop. She took the corner table with a clear view on the door and to look outside. She was still puzzled about the odd call she received from Julie wanting to meet here. She did warn she wasn’t coming alone. Her fingers wrapped around the warm coffee her mind travelled to a time before Jack Warren…her cousin Eva, once she could manage to lie with ease and simplicity, along with Allan Black, both two faced liars convincing of a friendship true. The laughter’s reflection in their eyes, an easy going smile that speaks of sincerity.“You changed cousin but you certainly could put on an act, that side of your personality that could really boils my blood.” She said softly to herself.Looking out the window strangely worried about Jack. One thing she knew about him, he was very punctual and trustworthy. The fact she has no communication from him was strange. Her mouth twist with controlled emotions. It has been a while since she felt the need to do that.“Jazz,”
Jack felt himself being dragged somewhere. He was barely conscious. He desperately trying to hold onto the image of Jazz. He felt his body being dropped onto a bed that stinks. He hears from afar someone moving around him but he can’t open his eyes.“Jazz…” was his last word before he was completely dragged under into darkness.John Warren stood looking at his beaten son. He took his phone and switch it on. He immediately received a lot of miscalls and urgent messages from his mother. He dialed the last number.“Son, where have you been? I have been calling but no answer. Are you with Jazz?”“You sure can string a lot of questions in one sentence woman.”There was instant silence on the line.“Julie…”“What have you done with my son?” she finally asks.“I want you to find your way back to the motel where we used to live.”“What have you done John?”“Don’t make me wait too long Julie. Make sure to bring Jason along.”John switch of the phone just stood looking at his boy. He left the r
“Jack,”John stood in front of his son. He just seemed to stare at nothing. He snapped his fingers the eyes didn’t blink once.“What did you put into that mixture Barry?”“My business. You seem uncertain now.”“I am just curious.”John kept looking into the staring eyes.“I can ask him anything?”“Yes, you can also make him do whatever you want. By the time he remembers the damage will be done.” Barry went and sit beside the table making notes.“Jack, look at me”John watched him slowly obey.“Describe Jazz,”“Truth from my heart…”“Yes,”“I am in love with her smile…the way the corners of her lips curve.”“Tell me more,” John said eagerly.“I am in love with her voice…the way the timbres sound.”“Go on.”“I am in love with her body…she is perfection in my eyes.”“I agree, go on, I know there is more.”“I am in love with the sound of her laughter…it’s like music to my soul.”“Yes, she does sound delightful. Conclude your praise,”“I am in love with her eyes…it always twinkles with mis
Jack stood still listening to his brother telling their mother about the latest antics of Jazz. He was also curious but he was also uncertain. He already made the decision to go to her but he in a way feels he was dropping them.“I should show Jack,” Jason said laughingly.“What should I know?” he steps into the room. He accepts the coffee his mother hands him.“Jazz is blazing through the internet.”Jack leaned over his shoulder watching Jazz cycling fast and furious along with the neighborhood kids. He grabbed the phone for a closer look wondering what’s written on the back of her T-shirt. A slow smile played across his face. He hands the phone back to Jason.“What are you going to do?” Julie watched her oldest seeing the conflict on his face.“She is telling the world she belongs with me. You know Mom, she told me she used to terrorized the kids around her but in truth I didn’t completely believed her.”“She also told me she like to play around in the trees pretending to be a monke
Jack thoughtfully walked along the beach, his thoughts constantly circling around Jazz and what he wants their relationship should be. He realized a long time ago he accidently received a gem of a woman. He stood looking towards the spacious bungalow where he and his family has been spending this last couple of weeks. He discovered Jason has changed from the easy yet uncertain boy he met the first time. Being two years on the street made him a constantly cautious teenager.“Jazz,” she said her name hoping the breeze on the waves will carried his voice towards her. He wonders if she even thinks about him.He looked towards the bungalow and saw Jason coming his way. He stood waiting for him and noticed he was no longer so thin. “Hey,” Jason said nervously.“You okay?”“I am but this feels weird.” He admits.“What do you mean?”“I am trying, I don’t look around so much. It feels weird,”“I understand if you can believe. You know Jazz taught me to admit being happy in the moment doesn’t m
“What is it with this family of mine Jazz?”Jack stood looking at the empty kitchen. A quick search and a look at the surveillance cameras showed both Julie and Jason slipping away from the house in the night.“Is there a note maybe?”Just by looking it was clear they simply left. She went and sit beside the counter just looking at her husband. She watched the confusion on his face.“What are you going to do now?”“Would you mind making coffee for us?”“Sure,”Jack stood looking around the kitchen. It feels rather homey. He should consider buying a place where he could start a fresh life with Jazz. He watched her being busy making coffee. He moved closer and suddenly wrapped his arms around her.“I don’t know how you can still stay with me? I only seemed to have cause problems.”“My choice Jack, beside I arrived with my own back of troubles.” She placed her hand over his.“I promise we will create our own life apart from this troubles Jazz,”“Let’s fix this situation first.”“Okay,” H
