Willow sat on the floor of the ward in the hospital as she looked at her pale palms. "I need more time," she whispered to no one in particular as she tried to think of solutions to her problem.
"Willow"Her grandmother's frail voice called causing her to scramble to her feet and run to her side. "Yes, grandma?" Willow replied curtly. The old woman smiled at the young girl and raised her hand. Willow quickly took it. "Grandma please don't stress yourself," she said to her.The old woman chuckled and smiled again. "I am supposed to be telling you that, my love. Don't worry about me, Willow. Go to school, I'll be fine," she said to her. Willow shook her head. "I don't want to leave you, grandma," she said as she held onto the woman's hand."I'm too tired to argue with you, child. Go back to school and study. I'm pretty sure you are meant to be in a class at the moment," her grandmother said. "But who will take care of you while I'm gone? Your hospital is so far away from me," Willow said. Her grandmother rolled her eyes and patted her cheek. "Stop sulking, Willow. I'm alright, I don't need you to baby me at the moment. The nurses will take care of me," she said."You speak like it's easy to leave you," Willow said to the old woman. "Do you want me to call the nurses to drag your pretty ass out of her, huh? Enough with this conversation, child. Carry your ass out of here and be on your way back to school. No buts, call me when you've gotten there safely," Grandma Marie said to her and Willow swallowed hard."Yes, grandma," she said and stood straight. Her grandmother smiled. "I love you, my dear. Don't let my health be all you think about. Maybe you should find yourself a boyfriend to distract yourself from me," she said and Willow nearly choked on her saliva. "Grandma!" she exclaimed and the woman snorted faintly."It's very obvious you have zero social life; I can smell it off you. Other than working and study, find something else to do," she said and Willow rolled her eyes. "Whatever you say," she mumbled. "It's not like you ever listen. Anyway, get going," her grandmother said. Willow looked at her for a moment.Even though she was weak and frail, she still tried to make everything look like it was okay."Bye," she sighed and walked out of the ward. She made her way to the reception and asked for the bill."Thank you," she said when she was given and then made her way out of the hospital.∞The warm sun hit against Willow skin as she walked down the roads in UCLA. She sighed as she wiped the sweat off her forehead. "Why must June be so hot?" she moaned in annoyance as she placed her hand on her forehead which was slightly warm due to being under the sun. Then her phone began to ring. Knowing who it was, she picked it up and placed it on her ear."Let's go and get ice cream, I'm starving," the voice of Evelyn Shawn filled her ears. Willow rolled her eyes. "I have to go to the library to study," she said. Evelyn scoffed, "The sun is enough to roast your brain and you still want to fry your poor brain with books!""Eve, I need to study," Willow said. "It's either we go on an ice cream date or you're going clubbing with me, you choose," the stubborn Eve said. Willow clenched her fist and sighed. She didn't have anything to do for the day and she'd rather stay indoors than go clubbing with a bunch of strangers."Where are we meeting?" she asked after a long silence. "That's my love! Our usual spot. Don't worry, bills on me," Eve said and hung up. Willow stared at her blank screen. "Just great," she said and turned around to leave. Her eyes fell on a couple who were seated on the grass. The guy had his head on her lap while they talked about something. Willow could see the affection in their eyes as they laughed at each other and it made her sigh.Even though she knew she didn't have time for love, she still wanted to know how it felt like. She wanted to know what it felt like to be loved.A few minutes later, she walked into Andy's ice cream bar where she would meet up with Evelyn. She spotted the black girl seated at an empty booth with her face glued to her phone. "Eve," Willow announced her presence causing her to look up. Evelyn grinned and stood up to hug her best friend."I still don't understand why you wear this much in this grilling season," she said, referring to Willow's boyfriend jeans and sweatshirt. Willow rolled her eyes. "I thought you wanted to take me out on an ice cream date," she said as she took a seat. Eve grinned and patted her cheek, "I'll be right back, my love!"With a smile, Willow watched her best friend walk away. She was thankful for having a friend like her. They only met on their matriculation celebration day. Willow had accidentally spilled her smoothie on Evelyn's white dress. Embarrassed and scared, Willow promised to buy her a new one and tried to wipe the stain of with her hands. Evelyn laughed at her behavior and told her not to worry saying she didn't really like the dress."Stop spacing out, Willow," Willow looked up to see Evelyn placed their treats in front of her and taking a seat beside her. "I got your favorite; chocolate with skittles," Evelyn said. Willow smiled, "Thank you, Eve."They began to eat and Willow couldn't help but take in Evelyn's features. Her dark skin was always glowing and healthy, matching her slim figure and making her look like a model straight out of a magazine.Due to the fact that the weather was hot, Evelyn had braided her in just eight cornrows. At times, Willow would get jealous of her black traits. Unlike her, Evelyn would get second glances from everyone that passed by her. She was popular in school with everyone which made Willow wonder why she was still her friend, not to talk of best friend."What are you thinking about now?" Evelyn asked her. Willow shook her head and continued to eat her ice cream. "Nothing," she said and Eve narrowed her eyes but deciding to let it go."Willow, come on!" Eve cried out making Willow to drop her phone on the table. Even though her phone wasn't on speaker, she was convinced Evelyn's voice could be heard throughout the whole library."Eve, stop shouting!" she hissed into the phone. Eve scoffed. "Why must you be so boring, Will? The guy likes you, so go out with him!" she exclaimed. Willow couldn't help but massage her temples and let out a sigh of frustration."Evelyn, I need to study for my biochemistry test," she said as she brought her phone up to her ear. "Willow, listen to me for once," Evelyn said with annoyance. Willow smiled at her effort. "Eve, I know who Kyle is and I'm sure you know him to. He changes girls like he changes his boxers and I will be no exception if I give in. All he wants is my body, Eve. I'm not stupid," she said. The line went silent for some time and Willow looked at her phone to see if Evelyn had hung up."Eve-"I'm sorry, Willow. I didn't even think about that. I was just happy that a guy
"I thought you had a class by five, this is already six thirty," Nathan said to Chase as they walked into a diner. "The lecture called it off and now I have free time to myself. Let's order something greasy for ourselves," Chase said and went to sit at an empty booth. Nathan rolled his eyes at his best friend and went to sit across him."I pray to find a cute chick here," Chase mumbled. "Shut your dirty ass mouth," Nathan glared at him and he grinned in response. "You need to get laid, bro. Crystal will soon make you run mad with the way she's chaining you down," Chase laughed.Nathan was about to reply him when they got interrupted. "Good evening, can I take your order?" They looked up to see a girl standing there with a notepad. The girl's eyes widened a little and her cheeks reddened when she saw them and took a step back."Willow! I didn't think I'd find you here," Chase said as he recognized her. Willow smiled at him, "Neither did I? what brings you here?"Chase shrugged with a
"Bye, Miranda," Willow said to her friend as she adjusted her sweatshirt. Miranda looked up from her phone and nodded at her. "See you tomorrow, say hi to Evelyn for me," she said and Willow nodded before walking out of the changing room. The diner was now almost empty since it was already nighttime. Willow walked out of the diner and was now walking down the scanty street when she heard an oddly familiar whistle. Refusing to acknowledge it, she continued walking."Hey, sexy waiter girl!"Then she knew why it was familiar. Not responding, she tried to walk faster but her short legs weren't on her side as she felt someone grab her and pull into a dark alley. Even if she screamed, nobody would hear her."What do you want?" she asked trying not to let her fear show. In front of her were five lust filled men and it scared her to her core."You denied us dinner and now we have to get it ourselves," the bald man with a skull tattoo said. "Then go and buy it," She tried to play smart. "That
It has been two days since that incident and Willow had become a shell of herself. She tried her possible best to be in the shadows and was able to get a pass to leave work early in order to avoid the incident happening again."You space out a lot, why?"Her head turned to see Eve looking at her with a frown. "Sorry, I was just feeling tired. That's all," Willow mumbled. Eve raised a brow and pointed at their unfinished homework. "You promised to help me with my law assignment," she said. "You and I are not studying the same thing, Eve," Willow rolled her eyes. "But you made me follow you to the library," her best friend pouted. Willow sighed, "I said we'd do our assignments together. Not that I'd help you." "But you still read those textbooks about law in your free time," Eve argued. "Doesn't this girl ever rest?" Willow thought to herself with a small smile. "Eve, you need to use your brain sometimes," she pointed out. Eve scoffed and waved her off. "I use it all the time but I wa
Willow was seated under a large tree on the grass of the university. She had no class at that time and figured it would be nice to spend some time under the tree with the it giving shade from the scorching sun.She was dressed in a red and white plaid skirt that stopped a little above her knee and a red crop top. Willow wasn't the fittest person anyone would know and unlike her best friend, her tummy wasn't flat so she was glad her skirt had a high waist. She was lost in her book when her phone rang.Startled a little, she picked it out of her pocket and answered it. "Hello?" she spoke. "Is this Willow Sawyer?" an unfamiliar female voice spoke. "Yes, it's Willow," Willow said with a frown. "I'm calling from Winston Hospital, where your grandmother was discharged from," the woman said and Willow sat straight immediately. "Yes, how may I help you?" her voice wavered a little. "We are informing you that you are yet to pay the hospital bills. If you can't pay it on time, we won't be able
Nathan looked at his phone with an absent mind. Why did he propose that plan to her? What the hell was he thinking? He rolled his eyes and scrolled through his Instagram feed like the jobless person he was.She was the best option. "Hey," the low yet audible voice made him look up from his phone to see Willow standing there with a shy smile. She was dressed a light blue sun dress that stopped below her knees and her hair was packed in a half-up ponytail making her look as cute as ever."I thought you were going to ditch me on our first date," Nathan commented with a grin as she took her seat across him. Willow rolled her eyes and placed her small white purse on the table. It has been a week since she agreed to that plan. They hadn't met since that day and the was their first meeting."Why did you send me that money?" she asked him when she was settled. Nathan's grin widened, knowing that was what she was going to say. "I presume you haven't heard of a signing bonus," he said and she
"I wanted vegetables," Eve whined as she picked a slice of the pizza and began to eat. Willow rolled her eyes, "Stop being bitchy and eat it like that.""You're being like a mom," her best friend pouted as she laid her head on Willow's lap. They were under one of the trees in the campus, enjoying the cool weather that came as a surprise that day."Someone needs to keep you in check before you kill someone for bumping into you accidently," Willow rolled her eyes and began to eat her pizza. Evelyn snorted and adjusted her head on her best friend's lap."So where were you yesterday?" she asked. Willow stopped mid-chew, "What do you mean?" "You did say you were going out but you didn't tell me where. Not to mention that you were gone all day," Eve pointed out. "Um," Willow thought of what to say. "Is there something you're not telling me?" her best friend sat up and narrowed her eyes at her. Willow shook her head, "It's not that.""Then what is it?" Eve raised a thick brow. "I went on a
"That's not how you pronounce it, Eve," Willow sighed as she rubbed her temples. "It's not my fault," Evelyn whined and sighed before closing the dictionary. She didn't even know why she decided to read the dictionary. They were at the cafeteria eating and also working on their assignments. "Why did you even decide to open a book you can't even comprehend?" Willow raised a brow at her, which earned her a glare."Don't you dare try to insult my intelligence. I can understand the dictionary," Eve pointed a finger at her and Willow chuckled. "Just give me your chicken already," she said. Eve rolled her eyes and pushed her plate of half-eaten chicken towards her. "I'm convinced that you love chicken more than you love me," she mumbled with distaste. Willow waved her off as she bit into the seasoned meal. "I spend more time with you, my love," she said with a chuckle and Eve rolled her eyes again."That your laughter will soon be your last."They turned to see Crystal standing behind the
Everything began to go smoothly for the remaining few months. It was now December and everyone was now Christmas shopping. Thanksgiving was spent in the Reyes mansion. Grandma Marie came over with Willow's father and sister. The whole extended family was present and it was warm and homey."Mommy," Willow turned her attention to her daughter. They were on holiday but she still needed work. "Yes, sweetie?" she replied as she went to her daughter and handed her breakfast. "Why aren't you staying home with us?" Wave asked as she took a sip of her hot coco. Willow gave her daughter a smile, "Mommy doesn't get holidays, that's why she can't stay home."Wave pouted and Willow giggled before ruffling her hair. "Nate! Daniel! Get down here now!" Willow yelled with an eye roll. "Is Aunt Nadia still coming over?" Wave asked her mother. Willow nodded and patted her head before going back into the kitchen to get food for the others."Did you really have to interrupt our game?" Nathan grumbled as he
People's joy knew no bounds when the news of Nathan's recovery spread everywhere. The doctor, which was Jayden, advised that he'd be on bed rest for minimum of a week so he can regain his full strength. Nathan was not at all happy with this and he used every means to show it. The only thing that eased his unhappiness was that the kids were staying home with him because they were on mid-term break.Daniel wouldn't stop apologizing over and over again for causing his father to go through pain. "Daniel, it's alright. Things happen, stop apologizing," Nathan said to his son as he stroked his hair. Daniel snuggled closer to his father with tears falling down his cheeks. "I don't want you to die, daddy. Mommy used to cry everyday but she didn't want us to know," he said and wiped his cheeks. Nathan looked at his son's teary face and sighed before wiping his face with his hands. "Everything will be okay from now on," he said and Daniel nodded before hugging him. Then his mother walked into t
It's been three months since Nathan's accident. It spread through the news and even got to newspapers and magazines. There was even a part that stated him having kids in secret because there was a picture of Wave and Daniel calling him daddy while trying to wake him up. All these things didn't bother Willow at all. She'd spend every single day taking care of him. Whenever she was done with other patients, she'd go back to attending to him. Every day, she'd bring the kids over to talk to him about their day. According to research, the voices and touch of one's loved one can bring he or she out of coma. It has been three months but Willow didn't plan on giving up."Hey," she turned to see Jayden walk in holding a starbucks drink in his hand. "I'm not sure if you'd want to eat anything, so I got this instead," he said as he handed her the drink. She thanked him and turned her attention back to Nathan. She just wanted him to open his eyes."His vitals are now stable, it's left to him to d
Willow was busy giving her patient treatment when there was a knock on the door. With a frown Willow asked the person to come in. She turned around to see her kids walk in with their class teacher. On instinct, she stopped what she was doing and quickly went to meet them."Mommy!" they were both crying and Willow noticed that their uniforms were stained with blood. She looked up at the teacher, "What happened?" she turned her attention back to her children and began to search for cuts or bruises. "There was an accident," the teacher said."Daddy," Wave hiccupped on her tears and Willow's eyes widened. "W-what happened to him?" she could barely contain herself. "I rushed to the scene a little late. He was hit by a car I think, but he's not in a good state," the teacher said with a sad tone and Willow knew it was bad. "Where is he?" she asked her. "He's in the emergency ward at the moment," the teacher replied. "I did not know, mommy," Daniel's face was puffy and red, stained with tear
The next morning, Willow didn't say a word to Nathan. She decided that she wasn't going to meddle in his business anymore. Yesterday night, she didn't cry just because of what Kiara had told her. She cried she realized how much she loved Nathan. Ignoring his existence would be the best option.Nathan was fed up with her silence and stood up from the dining table to meet her in the kitchen. "Willow"Her shoulders tensed at his voice but she refused to look at him as she continued to do the dishes. "Willow, lease talk to me," he pleaded. She turned to him with a very fake smile. "Good morning, please take the kids to school or they'll be late," she said and walked out of the kitchen.Nathan exhaled in frustration and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Oh God, please help me."∞"Did you ask him to confirm if it's true or not?" Eve asked her. "I didn't want to walk to him at all," Willow mumbled as she looked through her patients' files. "But you don't know if it's true or not? You can't j
It was a Sunday evening. Willow was seated on the floor in the living room, typing her report in her laptop while her kids played with Star. "Be careful, kids," she said, not looking up from her work as she heard them scream excitedly. Willow rolled her eyes at their enjoyment. Then, she heard the front door slam shut loudly, causing her to frown. She didn't expect Nathan to come home early. She looked up and frowned deeper when she saw a slim but familiar woman storm in. her eyes widened, "she was the woman she met at Nathan's office." But she couldn't remember her name."So it's actually you!" Kiara snared at Willow, seeing her comfortable on the floor in Nathan's house. Nathan rarely let people at his home, except they were family or very close to him. Why would he allow someone like her here?"Huh?" Willow frowned in confusion. Kiara's eyes fell on the two kids that were playing with the dog. So he has kids with this woman? Was she his wife?"No, it couldn't be possible," she th
"I bet you still can't walk properly," Eve laughed and Willow rolled her eyes. She wasn't lying though. Willow still couldn't walk properly after her crazy adventure with Nathan last night. It was worth it though, cue the laughter. "I didn't expect that to happen," she mumbled and her best friend chuckled. "You guys should get married please. Fix your problems and go to the alter already!" she exclaimed. Leave it to Eve to be dramatic about everything. "I pray you become mature before you meet your baby," Willow sighed and Eve scoffed. "You're lucky my attention is need at the moment. We'll settle this case later," Eve said and hung up. Willow laughed and went back to what she was doing.∞Nathan was busy with what he was doing when Kiara barged into his office. He looked up to see her and rolled his eyes. "Stop ignoring my calls and messages!" she exclaimed as she walked up to him and slammed her hand on the table."I might need to get that place sanitized," he thought to himself a
Willow woke up the next morning to an empty bed. She let out a sigh of disappointment as she sat up and looked at the alarm clock, it was four in the morning. She frowned, "Where could he have gone to by four in the morning?" she stretched her limbs and stood up from the bed. The bedroom door opened and Nathan walked in, dripping with sweat.Even though the lights were not on, the LED lights on the ceiling allowed her to see his glistening body. Her cheeks heated as she averted her attention from his ripped body. "I thought you'd still be asleep for another hour," Nathan said as he approached her. "Good morning," she gave him a smile. He smiled and pinched her cheek before going to the bathroom. She let out a breath and touched her cheek. He had gotten taller and broader; how would she be able to handle that?"I just need to wait for him to be done before I take my bath," she said and went to make the bed.∞"I'm so excited man. I mean, I've been dreaming about having a kid of my own
"Yay!" Willow watched as her kids bounced up and down on their beds in their new room. "You like your new room?" she asked as she continued to arrange their things in their wardrobes. "Yes, mommy! I'm so happy we're living with daddy now!" Wave squealed as she got down from the bed and went to hug her. Willow chuckled and ruffled her hair."When is daddy coming home?" Daniel asked her. "He will soon be home," Willow told him and he nodded. "Mommy, can we go and play with Star?" Wave asked her. "She's downstairs. Be careful, okay?" Willow said and they nodded before running out of the room.Willow sighed and turned her attention back to what she was doing. She was a little bit tired from unpacking most of their things. It was a driver that brought them to Nathan's house, because he away at the moment. He had sent a message telling her that he would be home at night. When she was done arranging her kids' belongings, she stood up and let out a sigh. The room was very large, allowing the
