CHAPTER 4: SWEET CANDY.
—
—
—
In all honesty, Yomi's birthday party was a blast. It was a low-key event, as planned, and it was strictly by invitation. There were a lot of important factors that spiced up the celebration, such as lots of beautiful ladies, surplus drinks and snacks, a big, fine cake, and very fun games, to mention but a few.
A total of twenty-five people were present at the ceremony — including the celebrant himself — and it lasted for one hour at Unilag's Love Garden. Then, when it was over, so many people left, while a few others stayed behind to have some more fun.
Presently, the time was 9:13 PM, and Yomi was with Jordan, Steve, Jonathan, Candice, Alice, Betty, and Isioma. Steve and Jonathan were both Yomi's good friends and course mates, wh
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDS Author: Sam Freddy CHAPTER 5: TRUTH OR DARE. — — — When she returned from the distant store with Tayo and Anastasia, Idara was beyond surprised to meet the others sitting on some iron benches in the Lagoon Front, playing a nasty game of Truth or Dare. Somehow, they all happened to be the only ones relaxing there tonight, but Idara wasn't sure, so she looked around and figured out that — for what seemed to be the first time in history — there were no other students or security guards in the area but just the group, all by themselves. It was complete freedom like never before. Luckily for them, the illumination from the bright streetlights didn't really cover the small area where they occupied, which technically meant that there were less chances of them getting caught if the game got nastier with time.
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDSAuthor: Sam FreddyCHAPTER 6: THE PROMISE.———Tayo had always had a soft spot for Idara ever since they met in school. Right from the very first day his sister introduced him to her, he knew she was so different from the other regular girls he'd seen in the Faculty of Social Sciences. To him, Idara was one of a kind: beautiful, rare, smart, lively, meek, simple and sweet. And he'd often tried to express his feelings for her through special gifts and lengthy phone calls, but sadly, she never read between the lines. The closest to a green light that Tayo had ever gotten from Idara were the usual friendly smiles and the funny pet names. Sometimes, he wondered if his age was what scared her away from him. He was just twenty-eight years old, and she was twenty-five. There wasn't too much gap between them, after all.&n
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDSAuthor: Sam FreddyCHAPTER 7: LISTEN TO THE RADIO.———Dressed in a knee-length sky blue gown, Idara danced outside in the very light rain, whirling and twirling with exceptional vigour and profound agility. She saw herself performing on stage in front of a relatively large audience, competing against other skilled dancers like herself. So far so good, she'd beaten many of her fellow competitors out of the big tournament and had gotten to the final round without breaking a sweat. But when her last opponent came out from behind the curtains, Idara was stunned as she saw that it was none other than Yomi, her very own incomparable sunflower, charging at her with an expressionless look on his face. The moment he stood before her, the location changed from a wide, noisy hall to a quiet, spacious, adorned g
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDSAuthor: Sam FreddyCHAPTER 8: HEARTBREAK ON A FULL MOON.———At nine o'clock on the dot, Candice stumbled into her dormitory with her high-heeled shoes in her hands. She also held several fancy plastic bags in the crooks of her long arms as she plopped down on a lower bunk, due to exhaustion. All of Candice's roommates started hailing her like their lives depended on it, all because of the tantalizing goodies which she brought back home.“Welcome home, Sisi Eko. We all thought that you wouldn't return today.” Alice teased as she snatched one of the bags from Candice's arm for herself. “I trust you had fun with that rich yellow pawpaw guy, right?”“You bet!” Candice admitted dreamily, closing her eyes with her head inclined. “In fact, fun is a complete understa
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDSAuthor: Sam FreddyCHAPTER 9: THE REQUEST.———Four days later. Sunday. 8:03 AM.Dressed in a dark brown halter top and tight, faded shorts with a pair of clean black sneakers on her feet, Candice stood in a long queue of people waiting at a bus stop for the next transit bus. She was the last person on the line, and it angered her immensely because she had other places to be.Yomi's crib, for example, was the first place on Candice's list. She wanted to pay him a surprise visit today before doing the same to her other boyfriends' houses. But the slow-moving queue was practically killing her and wasting her precious time.Candice almost wished she could grow angelic wings to fly away from there, but she knew better than to wish for the impossible.
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDSAuthor: Sam FreddyCHAPTER 10: ALL THE BEST.———Yomi's smile faded at once. “What? Fifty thousand Naira? Jeez, that's one helluva huge amount of money, Candy.”“I know, babe.” Candice whispered, toying with Yomi's nipple with her thumb and index finger. “Trust me, I do. But I need it urgently, baby.”“What for?”“For my handouts and toiletries and blah blah blah.” Candice lied, feigning sadness. “I mean, I'm owing some people in my department who need their money back before this month ends. And that is the most worrisome part about this entire thing. I remember asking my older sister for help, like, three weeks ago or something, but she hasn't gotten back to me till date. In fact, she doesn't pick my calls anymore.&rdqu
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDSAuthor: Sam FreddyCHAPTER 11: THE WARNING.———After alighting from a yellow ‘danfo’ bus, Jordan and Isioma entered their school's main gate and walked all the way to the Sports Center to rest for a while. They went into a small, enclosed court where they both had a perfect view of the ongoing game of basketball.Funnily enough, they'd barely started discussing when a yogurt seller passed by with his fancy cart.Quickly, Isioma went to meet the man and bought some snacks for herself and Jordan. Then, she returned to her seat and handed Jordan's snack to him with utmost care.“Whoa. Thank you, buddy.” Jordan offered Isioma a nice smile in appreciation. “Very much!”Isioma smiled back even nicer. “You're welcome, JD.”
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDSAuthor: Sam FreddyCHAPTER 12: THE DISCUSSION.———Tuesday. 9:01 AM.A fancy, snow-white Mercedes Benz pulled up into the spacious corridor of a huge mansion which looked like something from paradise itself. After turning off the ignition, a well-built man stepped out of the car and went over to the other side to open the car door for his newfound pretty young thing.Chattering, they both walked into the building while holding hands as if they were long-term friends or inseparable lovers from a romantic soap opera. When they arrived at the biggest living room, the fairsome lady saw a lot of expensive furniture that ornamented the whole place like King Solomon's palace, but the most important items she noticed were the picture frames on the walls. In them, she saw photographs of the same
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDS FINAL CHAPTERAuthor: Samuel FrederickCHAPTER 43: RIP.———Three days later. Friday. 9:00 AM.Ebony Millennium Cemetery, Lagos, Nigeria.Undoubtedly, today was a sad day for Yomi's loved ones. It was his funeral, and sorrow filled the air of the venue like a thunderstorm. His parents, friends, neighbours and colleagues were all present at the ceremony to honour him, and it wasn't easy for any of them to be here in this cemetery, especially with the sight of Yomi's corpse which laid in a grand casket on a small podium that had a lot of his portraits all over it.Unlike many African funerals, this occasion was a small and simple one hosted by Yomi's family. He was so close to his parents when he was alive to the point that he felt comfortable talking to them about anything and ever
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDS Author: Sam Freddy CHAPTER 42: GOODBYE. — — — It is said that just before one dies, their whole life flashes before their very eyes, and that was almost the case for Yomi tonight. He should've died after taking that pill, but somehow, he opened his eyes and found himself on a sick bed, right next to his friends who surrounded him with gloomy faces. Despite his blurry vision, he could pinpoint the four people in the room, which were Tayo, Danladi, Isioma and Idara, who sat right beside him on the bed with her head down, worried, while the rest of them sat on their respective chairs and had their eyes fixated elsewhere, apparently worried too, judging from the silence in the room. The only thing that could be heard was the constant beeping of the machine that was connected to Yomi's wrist to monitor his heart
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDSAuthor: Sam FreddyCHAPTER 41: HOMICIDE.———Furiously, Yomi pulled over to the roadside and hopped out of his car. He'd just arrived in Candice's street, and he had just one intention as he headed straight to her apartment, which wasn't going to favour her in any freaking way. Not at all.He heard loud music booming from the inside as he knocked on her door, and due to that, it took a little while for her to open up for him, and she was utterly stunned when she saw him at her doorstep at ten o'clock at night. However, at first sight, Yomi found Candice's appearance very ridiculous. She was dressed in a baggy shirt with no underwear — he could tell by the way her nipples poked at him like spikes and from the outlines of her nether regions — and she was a complete mess right now: her hair w
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDSAuthor: Sam FreddyCHAPTER 40: MEMORIES.———HIV?Yomi still couldn't fathom it even after leaving the hospital with anger about three hours ago. He'd abandoned Candice there, and instead of going home directly, he went to a bar to have a couple of drinks, and now he was seated in his car, somewhat tipsy, battling with his worries again. How on Earth could he be HIV positive? How did he let this happen? He still had a long way to go in life and he didn't need this at all. Thinking about the impact it would have on his health in a couple of years to come scared him to the bone. He couldn't imagine the virus metamorphosing into AIDS and wrecking his system down, bit by bit, until he was skinny enough to be compared to a skeleton, or probably die from its drastic effect on his health.
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDSAuthor: Sam FreddyCHAPTER 39: A DREAM COME TRUE.———On this cool Tuesday evening, the air was crisp and clear at the beach, and there were only a few people roaming about, which paved the way for Idara and Tayo's little romantic picnic on the sand.Well, they weren't actually sitting on the sand since they had a big mat spread out, which housed a plastic tray and a big basket that contained various fresh fruits and a bottle of champagne and two glasses as well, including Idara's fancy tote bag.Since the picnic was only a minor flex, Idara wasn't dressed to kill. All she wore was a brown floppy hat and a palm leaf-printed tube top, plus a unique drawstring denim shorts with brown strappy sandals on her feet, coupled with some colorful waist beads and blue wristbands and an anklet too. And, of course, she
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDSAuthor: Sam FreddyCHAPTER 38: THE BIG NEWS.———Panting heavily, Yomi barged into Candice's ward and saw her lying on the sick bed, her cheeks swollen like a balloon. Although she wasn't unconscious, she couldn't talk, mainly because the memory of the earlier occurrence kept playing over and over in her mind, making her shed tears on the spot. She'd never been humiliated like that in her entire life. The shame was just too much for her to shoulder alone.Yomi — who was at work when he received a call from a stranger who had informed him about the incident and had left all what he was doing to come here — stood before Candice, baffled by her unlikely appearance. Not only was her face red with bruises all over her hands and legs — most of which were covered in bandages — but she also reeked of egusi soup
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDS Author: Sam Freddy CHAPTER 37: KARMA STRIKES. — — — As a baker, Isioma had quite a lot of loyal customers in her school, simply because of the outstanding quality of her products and their affordability, and of course her exceptional marketing skills and her friendliness too. Today, she'd come to deliver a birthday cake to an evangelist's wife in the school's central church and she was heading out when she spotted someone kneeling before the altar, praying. To Isioma's surprise, it was Jordan, and he'd just concluded his prayer when she saw him. He stood up and sighted Isioma behind him. “Isioma!” Jordan exclaimed at once. “Are you spying on me?” “I wish I was,” Isioma replied, amused. “But, actually, I came here for business. I was on my way out when I saw you. What a pleasant surprise.”
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDSAuthor: Sam FreddyCHAPTER 36: DEEP REGRET.———Rocking a blue bucket hat with extra dark sunshades, a navy blue long-sleeved jacket, a white baggy shirt inside and black jiggy jeans, coupled with a matching pair of white socks and black and white Nike shoes, Isioma sauntered out of her lecturer's office like a boss, feeling on top of the world.Mike, who had been waiting for her on a bench for over ten minutes, jumped up on seeing her. She had a big smile on her face, which prompted Mike to ask, “It's about time! So how did it go?”“Well, it seems I won't be having any more trouble from Mr. Rochas, pal.” Isioma reported, pocketing her sunshades. “The big bad wolf has surrendered, miraculously.”“Aha! You see? I told you my plan would work!&rdqu
#JUST_BEST_FRIENDSAuthor: Sam FreddyCHAPTER 35: A WAKE-UP CALL.———Sunday, 8:20 AM, exactly three days after Idara's family's reunion.“So that's the house over there, down the road.” Mike announced, as he and Isioma alighted from a tricycle. “The big-ass one with the fancy painting and stuff.”“Oh.” Isioma's eyes traced Mike's index finger till they landed on a unique two storey building. “Are you sure?”“If I wasn't sure, will I be here with you? Of course I am.”“Perfect.” Isioma said, savouring the classiness of her surroundings. “What a nice estate. No wonder bikes and tricycles aren't allowed here. Anyway, what now?”“Now, let me give my sassy step-sister one l
