I was a child again, feeling his dirty hands on me, groping at my clothes while forcing my legs apart. The image shifted and I was driving a knife into his body over and over and over again I woke up gasping for breath, it’s really crazy how These nightmares started again a month ago, so I’ve been drowning myself in wine and men, it helps for the most part, but it is crazy. First thing I noticed after jerking awake was the killer headache I was sporting, second thing I noticed, was that there was a stranger in my bed. “Also I drew up the papers for the contract, I mailed it to you. And also I brought in the papers you need to sign from our other companies, I mailed you the ones from abroad for approval”“Thank you Sansa, that’ll be all for now, I think you should take the rest of the day off, you’ve outdone yourself today plus it is your birthday so…….” she was smiling at this point, Sansa had only worked with me for a year, but somehow she had managed to be the best and has evaded anything that would lead to her being fired. I rummaged through my drawers and found the box. I am really awful at wrapping boxes, but I did try anyway. “Don’t open it until your outside” I instructed with a straight face and then added a “happy birthday” with a softer smile. “Good Morning Devonne” I jerked awake and squinted at the person, it was Sansa, I had slept in…..in my office! I shut off the music and rubbed my eyes. “Morning Sansa, how’d you enjoy your new gift” I asked, struggling against a yawn.“I enjoyed it very much Devonne, thank you” she said while dropping a cup of steaming hot coffee and a bagel on a plate on my table. I was about congratulating myself for managing to sort through half of my paperwork when Sansa interrupted my thoughts“Devonne, is 9 am already, you are supposed to have a meeting with Edward right about now and he has arrived, I did ask him to give you thirty minutes to have your breakfast though”“Thank you Sansa, I’ll get ready now” I said, dismissing her. I know I called it a lounge earlier, but it really is just a bedroom with just about everything I need, including but not limited to a kitchen. “Okay kids, remember to behave alright, Bob’ll be here any minute now….” just as she was rounded up her little pep rally, the doorbell rang. And I was just there thinking like, why? Why did this whole introduction thing have to take place at my house?! Why?! I could vaguely make out Brianna hissing, I turned to look at her and I almost chuckled at the pout she had on her face, She was 19 and had just gotten into college at UCLA. Josh was 2 years behind her in senior high. ‘Bob’ walked into the room, more like he strutted in, the wine seemed to keep reminding me of how this was my house and I ought to have a say in whatever happens in it. As soon as he walked in, his eyes went straight to me, his nostrils flared a bit and then he smiled, the wine kept panicking in my head and screaming that he was dangerous, I looked at my Mom and I knew that for her sake, I just had to try. For disappearing to Hawaii? Because trust me you took the worst routes by messing with my burger, would you blame me for attempting to get a natural tan for myself? It was completely dark outside when I finally woke up in my office sweating profusely, feta gripping my heart like a vice. I wondered if this was how I was going to die, the pain was gone but it felt like it was still there, hiding, waiting. I crawled towards the bed in my office chambers and promptly passed out again. I woke up early and started getting ready for the work day. Considering most of the clothes in my closet were actually just blazers, I took out a white one and smoothed it down with one hand. Paired with a skirt, just how I like it. I grinned at the mirror before wrapping my hair into a neat bun at the top of my head and applying some lip gloss. Just as I was stepping into my office, my phone rang, startling me with how loud it was, it clattered to the ground from my hand.
