"From now on, you're no longer a Guzman," Marlene Guzman announced in Abigail Guzman's face.
Abigail remained silent, only fixing her cold gaze at Marlene, the woman she had called Mom for the past 17 years.
Three days ago, by a strange twist of fate, Abigail was involved in an accident with a girl called Gina.
She nearly died in an effort to save Gina, who was later found to be Marlene's biological daughter, the real Miss Guzman.
But now, Marlene seemed to have completely forgotten Abigail's sacrifice, determined to kick her out to make way for Gina.
"Mom, don't be so hard on Abigail. We're rich. And it's reasonable that she doesn't wanna leave," said Gina.
"Are you done? If you are, I'm getting outta here." Abigail wasn't in the mood to listen to their cynical taunts.
She realized that the Guzmans didn't deserve her love and devotion.
Gina stepped forward, trying to stop Abigail from leaving.
Yet, what she actually did was whisper to Abigail triumphantly, "There's one thing I forgot to tell you about. Maximo and I had a wonderful night two days ago. We're planning to announce our engagement soon."
If Gina hadn't returned, Maximo Oconnor should have been Abigail's fiancé.
Abigail looked Gina dead in the eye and replied aloofly, "Oh, congrats. He's not my type anyway."
Gina paused, dumbfounded.
Obviously, she didn't expect such a cold response, as if her punch had just hit a pillow.
Abigail stared at Gina as if she was looking at a fool.
"About Maximo, feel free to keep him if you're into that loser."
With that, Abigail walked out of the gate, leaving everything behind.
Walking out of the Guzman's house, Abigail breathed a sigh of relief and put on a mask.
Then she turned and took one last glance at the house.
"Grandpa, I'm leaving today. And I won't hide my ability anymore. Will you be happy for me?"
The rustle of the wind was the only response she heard in the quiet surroundings.
Suddenly, a loud noise came.
Not far from her, a black car was parked askew on the street—it had a tire burst.
A man in a black tracksuit got out of the car, swaying on his feet. It seemed he was injured.
More than ten men were chasing after him, all of them in black.
Ronan Lucero glanced over his shoulder, his expression darkening, which only made him seem more imposing. He placed one hand over his belly, his lips devoid of color.
"Save it. We paid a high price to hunt you down. You're not getting away." The men in black closed in.
"You really think you can seize me?" Ronan narrowed his eyes, his tone icy.
The pain in his belly was so sharp that he felt like his consciousness was fading.
"We'll see," the leader said and lunged toward Ronan.
Just then, a cobblestone came out of nowhere and hit his hand. As soon as he felt the sharp pain between his thumb and his index finger, he fell to the ground.
The leader panicked and growled, "Who's there?"
Abigail's voice was devoid of emotions. "I'm in a bad mood, so I don't wanna watch people fight. Take it elsewhere before you continue."
All the men fixed their gazes on Abigail with a serious look on their faces.
Even Ronan's dark eyes showed a tinge of surprise.
He was being hunted by international killers, every one of whom was capable of fighting against ten men at the same time. Yet, this masked young lady had just taken one of them down with merely a cobblestone.
She was awesome.
"There would be consequences for being nosy," snapped the leader. Then he ordered his men in a low voice, "End her."
The rest of the killers dashed toward Abigail.
Her pupils shrank slightly, a cold glint in her eyes.
"Be careful." Ronan started moving before the killers reached Abigail.
Suddenly, he stopped dead in his tracks, his dark eyes full of disbelief.
More than a dozen killers charged at her, yet none could strike a single attack before collapsing at Abigail's feet. She stood her ground firmly, unflinching, her gaze unwavering.
If her hand hadn't still been raised in the air, Ronan would have thought that the scene was his hallucination.
"Get lost." Abigail lifted her chin slightly, her tone chilling.
The killers looked at her as if she were a demon. "Who on earth are you? What did you do to us?"
However, they wouldn't hear the answer as they all passed out right after it.
Abigail looked down at them and then lifted her head to look at Ronan, who was standing not far away.
Ronan felt his heart skip a beat when he met her eyes.
Although he couldn't see her face under the mask, he was enchanted by her beautiful eyes, as bright as the moon.
Ronan reined in his thoughts and walked toward Abigail, speaking to her in a gentle tone, "Thank you. And I..."
Before Ronan could finish his words, he fell to the ground.
Abigail crouched down and lifted Ronan's shirt.
She had noticed that he was badly injured in the belly at first glance.
However, for her, dealing with it was a cinch.
She took out a tiny porcelain bottle from her bag and sprinkled the powder onto Ronan's wound. Then, she took a pill out of a second bottle and placed it in his mouth.
Had Ronan been conscious, he would have recognized the pill. It was the Heart Tonic Pill, the very one he had searched the world for.
After that, Abigail simply left him on the side of the street and walked away.

Days later.
Two men were standing at the turning corner outside of the Guzman's house.
Erickson, Lucero's assistant, was wearing a stylish suit and ear studs. He tilted his head and looked at his boss next to him. "Mr. Lucero, it's been two days. The girl never showed up. I don't think she will return here. Maybe we should just leave."
"I wanna wait a little longer." Lucero stared at the gate of Guzman's house with his narrowed eyes with a glint in his dark pupils.
Lucero was wearing a casual black outfit. The loose hair on his forehead covered his eyes, adding a tinge of rebellious aloofness to his handsome face.
"Please, Mr. Lucero. We'd better leave now, or you're gonna miss the engagement party with Miss Baldwin," Ryker got heated. "You were betrothed to her when you were little. Sir Lucero repeatedly warned us that nothing could go wrong at the engagement party, though he wouldn't be able to attend due to his poor health."
Ronan's lips curled into an indifferent smile. "The Baldwins haven't canceled the engagement?"
"Although you asked people to spread rumors about you being a violent hideous weirdo, you're from the most powerful family in town. Surely the Baldwins wouldn't dare to do so."
"I see." The light in Ronan's eyes dimmed.
Given Ronan's reaction, Ryker knew that Ronan had turned a deaf ear to his persuasion.
He swiftly decided to drop the topic. "Since we have no hope of finding your life-saver here, we should go. Once I find the legendary Heart Tonic Pill, Sir Lucero will be fine."
Ronan blinked and shot Ryker a pointed look. "Do you think you can find it?"
Ryker was annoyed by his retort, yet he couldn't think of a proper comeback.
After a while, he huffed, "Of course, I'll find it."
"Fine." Ronan didn't want to bicker with Ryker. He dropped his gaze and glanced at the Guzman's house before turning around. "Let's go."
"Mr. Lucero, where are we going?" Ryker asked.
Ronan smiled. "To cancel my engagement with Miss Baldwin."
Before Abigail left, she wanted to go to the hospital and visit her grandma Vanessa Guzman for the last time.In Ward 301 of the inpatient department in Shepard Hospital, a gray-haired old lady was lying in the hospital bed.Due to the torment of the disease, she looked pale and skinny. The wrinkles on her forehead made her look a bit more haggard. When Abigail opened the door and came in, Vanessa was still in a coma with her eyes closed. As Abigail walked to Vanessa's bedside on tiptoe, she couldn't help but feel sad.'Grandma used to be so energetic. Since when did she become so fragile?' she thought."Abigail." Randy Conrad, the young doctor who was rounding the ward, took a quick glance at her before continuing to write in the medical record. "You came just in time. We need to talk."He put away his pen, raised his amicable face, and stared straight at her with a pair of charming eyes."None of the current heart medications works for her. Increasing the dosage worked before, but n
Hearing this, several doctors who were in a state of desperation looked over."What do you know?" The male chief doctor didn't take Abigail seriously. "Sir Lucero's condition is very complicated. "Now they had no choice but to wait for his family to arrive.Abigail raised her eyebrows in doubt and asked lightly, "Rheumatic heart disease. Is it serious?""You can tell that just by a glimpse?" The doctor was surprised."Why bother arguing with that chick? When will Mr. Lucero arrive?" said Professor Kolten Hood, in his fifties, the best cardiologist in the hospital."In twenty minutes at least."Kolten thought about it. Irving Lucero couldn't afford to wait."Professor Hood, let's wait for Mr. Ronan Lucero." Georgia Riggs, a young deputy chief doctor tentatively said, "An unauthorized surgery would..."If something went wrong, Ronan would never let them get away.Seeing that Kolten didn't speak, Georgia simply acted as the "bad guy" and ordered the nurse at the side, "Go get the sedati
Eight cardiologists were behind him, all top figures in the industry.Ronan coldly looked at the chief surgeon in the operating room and asked, "Who is she?"She was wearing a medical mask, only revealing a pair of clear eyes.Strangely, her eyes seemed familiar to him."She is..."Kolten looked over, his heart racing. If he told the truth, Ronan might kill him right away.Ryker flew into a rage and snapped, "How can Shepard Hospital be so irresponsible? Does she even have a medical license or any related experience? Do you think whoever is bold enough can operate on Sir Lucero? What were you thinking about?""Mr. Erickson, please hear me out!"Kolten was so frightened that he felt limp all over, too nervous to say a single word. The other doctors in the observation room were all scared out of their wits.Although Georgia was trembling with terror, she bit the bullet and replied, "Dr. Randy Conrad said if anything happened to Sir Lucero, he would take full responsibility.""Nice try.
Abigail looked at him. His facial features seemed to be meticulously sculpted by the hands of some supernatural being because they were so perfect.More importantly, she seemed to have seen him before."Mr. Lucero, here's the thing. When Sir Lucero was critically ill, I boldly promised this lady a large amount of remuneration as long as she could save his life," Kolten hurriedly asked for a remuneration for Abigail.Ronan looked at her, a ripple of emotion in his eyes. Then, he glanced at Ryker.Ryker immediately took out a blank check, handed it over, and said, "Thank you for your help, Doctor! This is the reward from Mr. Lucero. You can fill in whatever amount you want."Abigail raised her bright eyes in surprise, wondering who the man was. She hadn't expected him to be so generous. The people around them all looked at her in shock and envy. After getting the blank check, she would earn more than just a large amount of money. The check was a token of Ronan's affirmation. So, she wou
"What's your name?" he asked. It was evident that he didn't usually speak much. Even his expression was as indifferent as his speech.Abigail responded confidently, "Abigail.""Please give me your phone number." Ronan handed out his phone, indicating for her to enter her number.Since Abigail accepted the blank check, she naturally understood what he meant. If there were any problems with Irving later, she would be responsible for handling them. He needed her contact information to find her in time.Taking the man's phone with her slender fingers, she typed a string of numbers. Then she looked up and returned the phone."Sir Lucero has undergone multiple thoracotomies, and early postoperative sternal instability can hinder healing. There may also be discomfort in his lower left limb due to repeated intubations during extracorporeal circulation. These are all normal phenomena."Telling him these conditions in advance would avoid future trouble.Ronan's eyes traced Abigail's facial feat
"Abby, here are scented tea, fruit, and snacks. Feel free to take whatever you want. Just help yourself. You're home now!" Kevin said dotingly.Abigail picked up the teacup and took a sip of the tea.Lauryn said with mixed feelings, " I never meant to lose you back then.""I know." Faced with her mother's sadness, Abigail felt touched. "How did you find me?""A while ago, the Guzmans issued a missing person notice, mentioning what happened back then. After an investigation, we found out that you are our daughter, and the daughter we have raised for eighteen years is not our biological daughter..."As she spoke, Lauryn shed tears. "I'm sorry, it's our fault that you ended up in someone else's home."Kevin also felt guilty. "It was my fault for being so confused back then and bringing Courtney home without investigating her background. This time, we also investigated her parentage. Her birth mother died in that big fire, and her father's whereabouts are unknown. So we want to discuss it
"How about this pair?" Kevin presented a pair of white sneakers to Abigail."Abby, how about this shoulder bag?" Lauryn took off a bag. "It's as if it's tailor-made for you... It would look good on you!"Abigail's eyes sparkled like lacquer, her temperament refined and otherworldly, as she listened to them talking.Courtney, standing on the side, had turned pale and looked utterly shocked. She couldn't believe her ears!'What happened? What exactly is going on? Why are Mom and Dad treating Abigail as their daughter and giving her so many Alana Designs limited editions?'As she saw them surround Abigail with a look of concern, a feeling of panic welled up in Courtney's heart.'I was only away for a month? What is all this?'"All of them are in your size. If you don't like them, I will have another batch made!" Kevin looked fondly at Abigail."It's not necessary," Abigail said with a charming smile and a soft voice. "They are all lovely."Zack could sense from Abigail's tone that she wa
"Zack, thank you for coming in person today," Lauryn expressed her gratitude and then turned to Enrique. "Enrique, please take good care of him.""I will. Mr. Patterson, please follow me."Zack knew that the family still had something to discuss, so he glanced at Abigail, exchanged a few pleasantries, and then followed Enrique downstairs."Come on, let's sit down and talk."Lauryn took Abigail's hand and beckoned Courtney to sit down. For Courtney, this scene was like a thorn piercing deeply into her heart."Courtney, let me re-introduce her. Her name is Abigail Baldwin. She is our daughter who we lost track of."Upon hearing these words, Courtney was thunderstruck. She always thought that Abigail was a distant relative who came to borrow money, but she didn't expect that Abigail was her parents' daughter...No wonder her parents treated Abigail so well!"Here's what happened. I picked up the wrong baby. As for your biological mother..." Lauryn hesitated to speak at first, but finally
Ryker, Jimmy, and the other servants beside couldn't believe how skilled Ms. Abigail's medical skills were. All the doctors said it was impossible, but she dared to guarantee that she would recover within a month.Isn't she human, but a goddess?"The Lucero family is so lucky to have you as Ronan's wife..." Sergio became so overwhelmed with excitement that his eyes welled up with tears.Great, my spouse is finally saved! In less than a month, she would be able to talk to him and accompany him for walks just like before! This was something he wouldn't even dare to dream about. The sudden joy overwhelmed Sergio, and he bent down in gratitude, "Let me thank you on behalf of your grandmother first...""Grandpa, you were too polite," Abigail hurriedly reached out to support him.In Abigail's perception, she merely did a trivial task that was not worth mentioning...But for the Lucero family, it was a lifesaving grace a
Before the red light, Abigail stopped the car and turned on her phone."Boss, this is a photo sent by the other party. Take a look and see if it's the real deal."Abigail opened the picture and indeed saw Licorice and Purple Lotus Root.Regardless of their appearance, color, pattern, or root structure, both of these items can be determined to be genuine."Give me the location.""Boss, are these really authentic? The other party is so amazing, they were able to find these two treasures so quickly. We searched for a full three months and couldn't find them! We were originally worried that they would deceive us with fakes..."I didn't expect it to be true!"They wanted you to wait for them at Peach Grove in the outskirts, where there was a small pavilion."Abigail replied with an OK, and just as the traffic light turned green, she stepped on the gas and arrived at the agreed-upon location. To deceive others, she parked the
A while passed. The chef prepared the delicious food, and Ronan personally brought it to her. "Can't sleep?""Hmm..." Abigail was surprised to see him carrying two large trays. "Do you usually eat in your room?""No," Ronan placed the tray on the table and said gently, "But I'm willing to make an exception for you with all my habits. Wait for me a moment, there are still some downstairs, I'll go get them."Abigail saw him leaving the bedroom and felt a warmth in her heart.Outside the window, Crescent Lake shimmered in the sunlight, endless daisies swayed in the wind. Abigail stepped onto the balcony, admiring the breathtaking scenery and feeling the cool breeze.Ronan walked over with two large trays, his tall and handsome figure exuding indulgence and doting as he looked at Abigail."Have your meal here," Abigail gestured towards the table on the balcony, "The view is nice here.""Okay," Ronan put down the things and pulled o
Ronan was even more curious about her identity when he realized that Abigail had even encrypted her phone calls.Out of respect, Ronan did not answer the call for her, nor did he hang up, but let the other person ring for a while before ending it himself. He placed his phone on the bedside table, gently covering Abigail with a blanket, and leaned down to give her a tender kiss. She looked beautiful when she was asleep, like a princess in a fairy tale, with long, curly eyelashes, a straight and elegant nose, and luscious, tempting lips.He couldn't help but bend down and give her a gentle kiss.Just at that moment, the phone vibrated again. It was a WhatsApp message sent by someone else to her.Ronan glanced unintentionally and saw several WhatsApp messages appearing on the screen."Ms. Abigail, the monthly report of Alana Designs has been sent to your email.""The recently launched jewelry collection has received an exce
In a luxurious cabin.Ronan held Abigail on his lap, gently stroking her soft hair with his chin, "How many identities do you still have that I don't know about?"Abigail averted her gaze slightly, not much though, even though she couldn't count the number of hands she had..."Was it because of your grandmother's condition that you wanted to get the Purple Ginseng?" Ronan glanced down at the girl in his arms and asked softly, "Did you know her condition was deteriorating, and she only had a few days left when you took her pulse that day?""Um.""Why didn't you tell me earlier?" Ronan scrutinized her eyes. "Or was it that you had already decided to come to Secret Delta alone to find Purple Ginseng at that time? Who told you that this thing could save Grandma's life?""I also read it in a medical book a long time ago..."As for whether it could be cured or not, it would depend on the grandmother's own physical condition."Secret
"Didn't Mr. Harrell say that the previous price doesn't count and asked me to make a new offer?" Abigail casually spoke, "What's the matter, does Mr. Harrell want to go back on his word?""You..." Leonard was instantly speechless."The gang leader, has no credibility at all?"Leonard suddenly realized something, "You, you two know each other? Trying to deceive me into selling Purple Ginseng at a low price? The big R Gang and A Gang colluding with each other just to take advantage of others? Aren't you afraid of being ridiculed by others if this gets out?""Seems like Mr. Harrell wants to back out?" Ronan asked skeptically."Repent, then repent!"Billions of dollars, and trust, he chose the former! One of the henchmen beside Leonard leaned in and whispered, "Mr. Harrell, there are R Gang members outside, let's be polite..."Leonard naturally knew the power of R Gang, so he suppressed his anger for the time being and said in a fr
Abigail brought Reuben to the backstage of the auction, where there was only one long table. The man sitting in the middle was Leonard Harrell, the leader of the Wolf Gang.Leonard had a mixed-race face, when he smiled, the smile didn't reach his eyes, it was cold and sinister."I never expected the leader of A Gang to be a girl. Interesting, truly interesting."He gazed into Abigail's eyes, smiling with an extraordinary infatuation, "Seems like a beauty unparalleled in the mortal world."Just these clear and bright eyes alone were already captivating.I don't know how enchanting it would be to take off the mask...Reuben wished he could dig out his lecherous eyeballs. If it weren't for the boss's single-minded desire for Purple Ginseng, he would have already pulled out his knife and stabbed it into this guy's eye sockets!Abigail hooked her long legs and pulled the chair over, sitting down confidently. "It seems like buyer number one
Next, the auction featured several eye-catching items.By the time the climax appeared, it had already been half an hour.Abigail had just finished a game match when she looked up and heard Reuben say, "Hey, hey, Purple Ginseng is on the field! Come over quickly, come and see!"His gaze fell upon the beauty queen dressed in revealing attire. This figure is so hot!The etiquette lady held something that looked like ginseng and placed it in an expensive wooden box. Facing the camera, she showed it to everyone."Starting bid of 30 million!"Reuben knew that the boss was going to bid on this treasure, so he quickly pressed the button several times, totaling thirty million. The other private rooms were all amazed by the extravagance of the buyer on the third floor. He immediately bid 120 million, it seems that this buyer on the third floor has a strong background and is determined to win this little thing!Abigail glanced at
Southbridge Auction.Abigail checked the information and entered compartment number 3 with Reuben. After a while, someone reported their whereabouts to the leader of the Wolf Gang."Mr. Harrell, the people from A Gang came! I never expected them to have the audacity to step into our territory. It's truly a case of finding something when least expected, and it didn't take any effort at all.""Have you read any books?" Mr. Harrell took a puff of his cigarette and slowly blew it onto his face. "Do you even know ancient poetry?""Hehe, sorry for my ignorance, I only attended a few years of primary school..." the subordinate said with a flattering smile, licking his face. Not finished yet...Mr. Harrell crushed the cigarette butt fiercely on top of his head and said, "I haven't read any books, so I hate it when people show off their knowledge in front of me!""Ah..." His body trembled in pain, but he dared not resist. Instead, he knelt dow
