Chapter 64: confliction

Larissa's viewpoint

The wind blew roughly against my skin, whistling in my ears and blowing some strands of my hair wildly. The soft music and laughter from below added a nice background tone to the atmosphere.

I sat on the roof of Zayne's family mansion, at the edge of the roof with one knee propped to my chest and my elbow resting on it. My hand played with my hair while the other rested on the smooth rooftop, supporting my weight. The leg draping down the edge of the roof felt heavy and prickly due to the time it had spent on air. It was starting to get painful but I couldn't bear to pull my leg in, not when the pain was the only thing keeping my mind from diving in too deep.

Zayne's mother's loud laughter drew my attention and I looked down. They looked like ants from up here but I could still make out their faces and tell them apart without seeing their faces.
