Layla raced out of Alpha's chambers, panting like some wild bear who had seen an enemy.

She rubbed her eyes rashly, trying to erase the things she saw from her memory but they kept resurfacing regardless.

Alpha's flawless bare body was causing commotion in Layla's mind. She has never seen the nude of any man. Alpha was her first. How mesmerizing her head has become after having a clear view of what Alpha looked like. He was manly down there. Every part of him was sculpted to perfection.

When Layla got to the dining table, she opened her meal, ate a little potion of mashed potatoes, and dashed back to her room.

She was sure Alpha would come looking for her after she barged into him unannounced.

While in the room, her heart continued to throb rapidly in her chest. Everything she had seen earlier was suddenly causing a strong desire In her.

She pressed her chest and even covered her eyes most of the time, but those images of Alpha kept playing In her imagination, suffocating her.

About five minutes later, she heard a knock on the door, and her jaw dropped.

“ Come in, " she managed to say amid her uneasiness.

The door opened and Isabella and Ella walked in.

At the sight of the two ladies, Layla collapses on the bed. The single thought of Alpha coming inside her chambers frightened her to hell.

“ My lady, the table is set for lunch. Please come over" Isabella announced from the door. They have been the closest maids to Mia each time she visited the pack. They were also aware of Mia's challenges; childlessness.

“ I ate a while ago. Please, I want to be alone for the moment" Layla put on a sad face.

“ My lady, you don't have to keep doing this to yourself. You’ll have a child of your own soon," Ella consoled, and Layla glanced at her, wondering what she was saying. Most times, she forgets she was Mia and not Layla.

Both Ella and Isabella walked to the bed, but the look on Layla's face showed more confusion and not pain or agony.

Blankly, Layla turned to the two ladies. “ Where is Alpha? Is he eating his meal?" Her desire to be with Alpha grew.

“ Alpha has refused to come out from his chambers too. Do you have any idea of what may be happening to him?” Isabella asked worriedly.

" I think he's overwhelmed about something. Please, you two should ensure he feeds, okay?” Layla replied, feeling worried inside of her.

" It's okay, my lady. But we need you to stop bothering yourself over anything too. The moon goddess would surely grant your heart desire soon,” Ella consoled, Squeezing Layla's hands.

" Thank you,” Layla whispered, thinking of a different thing in her heart.

When the two ladies had gone, Layla dragged the quilt on the bed and covered her body. She had been feeling a little awkwardly towards the feelings growing inside.

To be honest, those feelings will make her distracted from the mission she was sent.

After a serious struggle, Layla eventually fell asleep that afternoon.

At night that same day, Layla ordered Ella and Isabella to always bring her food to her in her room. She asked after Alpha but was told that he had not stepped a foot out of his chambers.

This got everyone terrified, including Layla, who was an enemy. She had wanted to go check up on Alpha but gave it a second thought and then stayed back.

When Ella and Isabella had left Layla's room that night, Layla decided to force herself to sleep, but sleep wasn't coming.

Because of her lack of peace inside, her head began to bang inside from a chronic headache.

She rolled left and right on the bed but got the same results from her head.

When it became too much for her to handle, she walked out of the bed.

Layla was about to go out to get water when a slight knock came on the door.

Who could it be in the deadly hours of the night? Confusion flushed her face.

The knock came again, but she ignored the person, pretending she was asleep.

Her mind was restless. A part of her kept telling her that Alpha was the one knocking.

However, after a failed attempt, the knock ceased. After some time, Layla fell back asleep.

As the morning sun rose high in the sky, Layla rubbed her eyes to embrace the reality of a new day. No doubt, a lot would be happening that day as it was the marking of Layla's second day of her mission.

Forsaking the memory of yesterday, Layla walked up groggily from the bed and strode downstairs.

Since she didn't get the chance to tour Alpha's opulent mansion yesterday, she decided to take a walk around and have a review of what the place was all about.

With a pleasant smile on her face, she strode, visiting each corner of the house which added beauty to her face.

After she stayed a while in the garden, smiling to herself about how beautiful the place was, she turned around to leave but suddenly felt the presence of a stronger force hovering over her possessively.

Swiftly, she turned. “ Alpha" Her breath hooked up in her throat. Alpha Tyrrell was standing all tall before her without saying a word.

" You startled me” She Continued, holding her chest as if her heart would pop out.

Alpha Tyrrell stood with head up high just glaring at Layla without saying a word. His aura was of peace yet, his face was contorted with a palpable disaster.

This got Layla pretty confused. It was damn hard reading Alpha’s mood.

“ I was taking a walk around the house. It was while I visited so… “ Layla giggled, a bit uneasy. No matter how she tried to compose herself, the presence of Alpha around her thwarted everything.

Of everything that Layla said, Alpha's composure did not change, either. He didn't reply to her with a word. He just stood, glaring at her in scrutiny. She was fidgeting. He could read all her body language as well.

“ My Lord,” Layla called when her restlessness increased. " You're not saying a word. Please, forgive me for all that happened yesterday. I should have knocked before barging into you” She apologized but got no response from the almighty Alpha Tyrrell.

Layla managed to look into Alpha's eyes for the first time since standing with him and she lost her composure the more. Confused, she turned slowly, to leave but missed her steps and staggered a bit before dashing out of Alpha's presence completely.

Immediately after Layla disappeared, Alpha Tyrrell exhaled deeply and left the garden too.

The morning began to progress from day to dusk bringing in tension for both Layla and Alpha. Earlier, when they sat eating breakfast, Alpha Tyrrell and Layla maintained distance and never spoke to each other, thereby making things more complicated.

However, in the evening of that day, Layla decided to take a walk with Isabella outside the mansion. They strode for two hours before deciding to return home.

Getting home, Layla went to her room to freshen up and look better. She opened the door of her room and found Alpha Tyrrell surprisedly standing by the window with his back turned to Layla.

“ My lord, what are you doing here?" Layla jerked at the sight of Alpha In her room.

No response came from Alpha. He did not turn to face Layla either.

Frozen but composed, Layla walked like Mia to Alpha and stood by him.

“ You’ve been ignoring me. I am your sister, please talk to me." Her voice became diffident.

Slowly, Alpha turned to meet with the gaze of Layla, with a few steps away from her.

Layla's heart began throbbing In her chest. Alpha's presence and uninterpreted moves were suffocating her.

Eyes on each other, Alpha replied softly, “ Why are you here?" He asked Layla the most confusing question.

“ Why am I here?" Layla stepped up as Mia would do.

“ Yes," He replied calmly.

“ I don't get you, Tyrrell. This is my house, and I have the full right to be here," She snapped, masking her true gullible self.

Without replying to Layla, Alpha turned back to the windows, giving Layla cold shoulders.

" Is everything ok, brother? You’ve been acting strange.” She paused as the palpitations of her heart wouldn't let her speak further.

“ Don't mind me, Mia," He replied without looking at Layla.

Layla exhaled. Her mission to begin to seduce Alpha was ringing inside her mind, but she didn't know how to start.

Alpha Tyrrell was not a man interested in women. Seducing him would be tactful, but she has to step up in the game. This is her second day already.

Dragging her cold feet from the floor, Layla moved close to Alpha and wrapped her hands around his waist.

“ I'm here for you, my lord. You can tell me everything you're going through." She rests her head on his back, her hands moving gradually to his chest.

Unexpectedly, Alpha stopped Layla's hands from going further in his chest.

He turned to her  and said, “ You were sent to spy on me." His words shocked Layla, and her lips suddenly became dry.

Speechless, Layla attempted to run to run away but Alpha grabbed her hands and kissed her lips.

"You should've stopped me."Layla's voice pierced the silence of the war room, as sharp as the blade she had just driven into the wooden table. "Stopped you from what? Saving what's left of us?"Layla huffed out an angry laugh as she ran her hand through her hair. " They are out there."Layla did not need Tyrrell to tell her that. She could feel it- the weight in the air, thick with expectation. The enemy forces had moved like murk in the night, girding the fort with ruthless perfection. Now they were staying, watching, tensing the mesh. She stood at the edge of the stone wall, surveying the treeline beyond the open field. The torches lining their defenses flitted, their light slightly pushing back the darkness." " You should not be then." Layla's voice was a whip of sword, slicing through the night. The firelight danced across her face as she goggled at the figure standing just beyond its light. The people behind her were tense, ready to attack at her word, but she raised a hand, averting them. This was n't an ordinary enemy. The man before her took a slow step forward, his movements deliberate, as if testing the weight of her words. His dark eyes glistered with something undecipherable, something Layla did n’t trust.“ I came to talk, ” he said, voice smooth, calm. Too calm. “ That is, unless you’d rather continue this war alone. ”Besides her, Tyrrell shifted, fingers twitching on his belt to where his gun rested." You anticipate us to believe you came then just to sputter, Cassius?" His voice had a healthy quantum of doubt trickling from it.Cassius scowled and crossed his arms over his casket." What can I say? " Move out, now!" Layla's voice cut through the pressure in the camp, sharp and commanding, like a cutter. Her eyes darted over her pack, surveying the faces of those who had gathered. Every one of them stood ready, but she could feel the unease in the air. There was no turning back now.Eerily silent, the camp fell as they came together, importing the storm above them that hung in the air. Everyone knew what was to be gained and lost. Every wolf, every fighter, understood the risk. But there was no fear. Not yet. Layla refused to let in the fear. Not today." Ready?" she rumoured, her voice low but indeed. She scrutinized around, again coming to rest on the figure that stood beside her- Jace deposited himself at her side, was formerly holding his armament, his eyes sharp and focused." Ready as we'll ever be," Jace said, slightly above a murmur in the still air." They are coming. Got to move out."In one nippy stir, Layla gave the order, and the pack surged forward. " You ready?" Jace's voice was low, the question carrying an edge to it that had not been there ahead. It was the kind of question you ask when you know the answer is everything.Layla did not say anything right down. She dragged on the strips of her gear, and her fritters squeezed tight around the hilt of the brand hanging at her side. She felt its weight all the weight, really, of everything that had brought them to this point every decision, every fight, every defeat leading up to now. And the storm was about to hit.Just get this over with," she murmured, further to herself than to Jace. But he heard it, and the nod he gave her was slightly distinguishable. He knew what she was allowing, perhaps indeed better than she did. They were standing in the camp, the fire fluttering low, the air thick with tension. A many of the other wolves were scattered around, stropping weapons, agitating strategies in hushed tones. But Layla was not concentrated on them. Her eyes were fixed on the hor

"Where is he?"Layla's voice cut into the thick, heavy silence like a blade that had been whetted by the weight it carried within this war room. The room itself was dark-the only light an occasional flickering from the low-burning fire, dancing in shadows across old stone walls. Hard, cool eyes stared without blinking at a map laid flat before her; crumpled, yet serviceable. Plans were being rehashed, people regrouped, and answers were needed. The injuries to Tyrrell had been grievous, and still convalescing, he would not be much help in times to come anytime sooner. Finally, out of danger but still with dark circles beneath his eyes and shallow jerks of breath with movement, he did little good for Layla, who was running out of time after all-not with the threat of war looming in every direction. One of her most trusted warriors, Jace, spoke up, his voice low but firm.
