FLASHBACK
“Isabel, come here darling,” my mother said smiling. My eight year old self turned my attention away from the awesome gifts that laid on the table in front of me. I had been going through some of the gifts even though mother told me not to, but hey, it was my birthday! I made my way over to my mother who was with my father, they were both standing next to a man who I instantly recognized as my Uncle Robert and a young boy who I definitely did not recognize. The boy did not look anything older than ten or eleven. He was also holding a box which he seemed to be struggling with quite a bit which made me giggle silently.“Come say hi to Uncle Robert,” my father said smiling down at me.I immediately ran over to my uncle excitedly who picked me up and hugged me.“You made it to my birthday!!”“Of course I did, I wouldn’t miss it for the world sweetheart,” Uncle Robert smiled. “I got you a really cool present.”“What is it?” I asked excitedly.Uncle Robert put me down and turned to the little boy still standing awkwardly next to him; he put his hands inside the box and brought out a small adorable English Bulldog.I squealed excitedly as I carefully took the puppy in my arms, “Thank you so much Uncle Robert!”“Anything for you Izzy,” Uncle Robert nodded. The little boy was still having some trouble holding up the box even though it has already been emptied. He was so clumsy that the box fell right out of his hands.“Noah!” Uncle Robert hissed.“Sorry,” the little boy said quietly. My dad cleared his throat, “Isabel we also want to introduce you to Uncle Robert’s son.”“You have a son?! I gasped in shock, “but you don’t have a wife.”Uncle Robert chuckled, “You’re right Izzy, I don’t have a wife but it doesn’t mean I still can’t have a son. This is Noah.”I turned to look at the boy next to him and I could see a lot of resemblance.Uncle Robert lightly pushed Noah forward, “Introduce yourself, boy.”Noah pursed his lips as he set the box down on the floor. “Nice to meet you all, my name is Noah.”“Noah what?” Uncle Robert pushed.“Noah Wolfe,” the boy sighed.I frowned slightly at the boy’s strange behavior, and what was even stranger to me was the fact that Uncle Robert actually had a son. I mean, from what I know, he has never had a wife or even a girlfriend that we know of, so how did he come to have a son?“Hi, I’m Isabel.”“Noah why don’t you go along with Izzy,” my mum suggested, “there are some other children by the swing set.”Noah looked up at his dad who gave him a pointed look. He knew he had no option so he followed me towards the swing set where a whole bunch of kids were playing.“So how come I’ve never heard of you,” I said as I cuddled into my new puppy.“No one has,” Noah shrugged off.“How old are you then?” I asked.“Eleven.”“Well, I turned eight today,” I said smiling.“Oh cool, happy birthday,” Noah said."How are you Uncle Robert's son anyways?" I continued to ask out of curiosity, "He doesn't have a wife or a girlfriend.""I'm what you would call a bastard," Noah grimaced as he said that word.I gasped "My mum said that's a bad word.""That's because it is," he said, "My mother and Father had a thing going on at one point and then I was born. Robert didn't want anyone to know of me, I think he was ashamed."I could see the sadness on his face, "Where's your mum now?" I asked."She died four months ago," he said quietly.I felt so sad for him, I could never imagine a world without my mother."I'm sorry about your loss," I said.Noah just shrugged."Are you sad?" I asked curiously.Noah sighed and nodded slightly.I brought him into my arms and gave him a tight hug like my mum does to me when I'm sad."You'll be fine," I smiled as he leaned into the hug.END OF FLASHBACKThat was the first and only time I remember having an actual conversation with Noah. The very last time I saw him was about three or four years ago after Robert passed away from alcohol poisoning. My family and I were there for the funeral and tried to offer our love and support to Noah but it was refused. Noah didn’t even shed a single tear at all throughout the whole service and practically alienated himself from everyone. The truth was my Dad and Robert were best of friends, practically brothers since high school. But when Robert died, so did the relationship with the Wolfe’s.But yet here I was in Noah’s office, awaiting his arrival.I heard the door being opened and in walked the one and only Noah Wolfe looking as dashing as ever.“Sorry to have kept you waiting for so long,” he said as he took off his shades, “I just got out of a meeting.”When Robert died, Noah basically inherited everything, and from what I’ve heard around, he had become a very successful CEO. Even more successful than his father.“You’re actually lucky to have caught me in town. I’m usually handling all my business in Los Angeles,” Noah said as he went over to the mini bar on the other side of his office to pour himself a drink, “Would you care for one?”“No, thanks,” I said softly."Suit yourself," He shrugged and took a sip from his drink, "So what can I help you with Miss Coleman?""Please call me Isabel," I said.He chuckled darkly and took a sip from his drink, "I haven't heard from your family in a few years, so excuse me for being curious as to why you're here, Miss Coleman."I bit my lower lip nervously. How the hell was I going to go about this?!"Well?" Noah questioned impatiently, "Look I don't mean to be rude but I am running on quite a tight schedule."I took a deep breath, "I need your help with something.......something very crucial.""And what exactly might that be?" He asked."I need a loan," I finally spat out. After a moment of silence, he replied,"Money?" Noah sighed, "I should have known...... what exactly do you need this money for? Did mummy and daddy cut you off?""What?! Of course not!" I snapped."This was obviously a waste of my time," Noah said finishing off his drink. "Hold on, please just listen to me for a second," I said, "The money isn’t for me."Noah raised a perfectly sculptured eyebrow, "Go on.""It’s for my father.""For your dad? Why would Adam need money?" Noah asked confused, "And why wouldn’t he come ask for it himself?" "That’s because he doesn’t know I’m here," I sighed. "Care to elaborate?" I took a deep breath, "Four months ago, my dad got diagnosed with cancer......and over the past few months, things have gotten worse. He needs medicine and chemo and some other things that we can’t afford. Look I know this is weird and odd for you because we barely know each other but I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t so desperate and I’m only asking for a loan so I can provide
I entered my house defeatedly. I could not believe how today turned out. I honestly felt like crying. Today was rather unsuccessful—I wasn’t able to come up with the money for Dad's medicine. My parents have done and sacrificed so much for me, and I couldn’t even do this simple thing for them. I felt like a failure. I strolled into the kitchen for a glass of water and I wasn’t surprised to find my mother in there trying not to cry too loudly. This had been a normal occurrence ever since she found out about my Dad's cancer. “Mum,” I said softly.“Oh Izzy, you’re home,” she said as she turned around, wiping her tears away quickly. “Where’s Dad?”“Upstairs, resting. The doctor gave him a new prescription, a more expensive one at that,” she said. “Were you able to talk to Noah?”I swallowed nervously, “Yes.”“Did he lend you the money?” She asked hopefully. "Please tell me he gave you the money."I took a deep breath as I replied, “Well, he didn't exactly refuse...”“So he agreed?! He’
"Would you just relax?" Noah asked in a nonchalant manner as we stood in the outside my parent’s house, discussing our forthcoming encounter with my parents. While I was instructing Noah on what to say and what not to say, I couldn't help but notice his growing annoyance, evident from the multitude of eye rolls he directed my way."It's going to be fine, alright?" he reassured, gently cupping my face in his hands. In that fleeting moment, our eyes remained locked, something undeniably special transpiring between us. However, as quickly as it occurred, we averted our gazes, and the moment dissipated.Noah cleared his throat, running his hand through his hair. "I'm going to make him believe that we are deeply in love, okay? Stop worrying so much."I nodded, still flustered from the encounter. "Okay."To my surprise, he reached into his jacket pocket, extracting a box that revealed a breathtaking and undoubtedly expensive ring. Taking the ring out, he delicately grasped my hand."You sho
"You can do this," I whispered to myself, gazing at my reflection in the mirror. "Everything will be fine." I attempted to convince myself that this was not such a terrible idea after all. I took a deep breath and studied my appearance. My wedding dress was beautiful, a flowing white gown with intricate beading along the bodice. My hair was pulled up into an elegant updo, with loose curls framing my face. Makeup artfully enhanced my features. Yet despite my lovely appearance, anxiety swirled in my stomach. I knew my father would arrive any moment to escort me down the aisle. I had been standing in front of the bathroom mirror for a good fifteen minutes, contemplating the fact that the day had finally arrived. It had been four weeks since I reluctantly agreed to this preposterous arrangement with Noah Wolfe. During that time, I had dedicated myself to planning the extravagant wedding with Noah's assistant, barely seeing Noah himself. In truth, I spent more time with her than with my n
“Hey, what’s wrong?” I heard Noah ask beside me.“Um, I need to go to the bathroom.” I muttered distractedly.“Is everything okay? Do you want me to accompany you?” He asked.“No no, I’m fine Noah.” I said quickly. He narrowed his eyes in disbelief as he asked again, “Are you sure?”“Yeah, i just need to use the restroom, ill be back in a bit.” He stared at me for a second before he released me. I could feel his eyes on my back as i made my way to the restroom.I picked up my gown to quicken my footsteps. It was a really beautiful gown and not to mention quite expensive. Noah had chosen it but it was a bit difficult to walk in.I made my way out of the reception into the lobby heading towards the ‘newly wed’s’ private bathroom. Yes, Noah had made sure we had our own private bathroom.I pushed the door open and locked eyes with the person sanding right in front of me. I closed the door behind me and dropped the tail of my dress.“I cannot believe you actually married him…”I felt hot
The plane ride was quite long and tiresome. Not a single word was said between Noah and I but I could tell that he was beyond pissed. I managed to fall asleep before we arrived at the Maldives. Noah has told me earlier that this was where we were going to spend our ‘honeymoon’. I had to admit this place was breathtaking. I was even more amazed at the resort we would be staying for the next few days. It was truly beautiful. When we arrived to our room, I was a bit nervous knowing that Noah and I were going to be sharing a bed. The big was quite big but it still worried me. The only thing that relaxes my mind was the fact that I didn’t have to do anything with him, at least not until the four weeks were up.I immediately headed into the shower as soon as we entered the room. After a nice warm shower, I put on my sleepwear in the bathroom because I knew Noah was probably still in the bedroom. However As I exited the bathroom, I was surprised to find the room empty.
