My breath came in ragged gasps, the air thick and suffocating. The exits were nowhere in sight except the only one I saw near the barrel of fire, but I could not go back there I would get caught. I scanned the dimly lit space for any sign of escape. The sound of his pursuit grew louder, his heavy footsteps echoing behind me. I could not let him catch me. Not now, not after everything.
