Chapter three

“What….who are you?” She asked in fear. Her hands were shaking but she tried to steady herself. He tilted his head and replied.

“I’m a vampire” he replied simply and she burst into laughter, it was a nervous kind of laughter, she was trying to mask her fear with the laughter.

“Vampire? Really?” She paused and studied him carefully “I believe in angels and demons, I believe in God and satan but vampires?” She chuckled again before saying “Vampires aren’t real”

He watched her for a long time, shrugged and said “okay” then he vanished.

Now she really started to panic, he was still in her room but he was invisible and if he really was a vampire, he could attack her.

“Alright fine! I believe you, you’re a vampire. Now could you please show yourself?”

He materialized right in front of her and they stood staring at each other, her, trying to process the fact that an actual vampire was standing in her room and he staring at her with curiosity and amusement. It’s funny she thinks the gun she was holding would have any effect on him.

“What do you want?” Hadassah finally asked after minutes of silence.

“Can you please put the gun down?” He asked politely and she did.

He was very attractive for a vampire, he was tall and skinny with an athletic build, his pale skin shone under the moonlight ray, his raven black hair was neatly gelled back with one strand falling on his face, and his lips were as red as blood and his fangs were visible whenever he talked. He wore all black blending with the darkness, he looked breathtaking and she found herself unable to look away from his dark eyes which was like looking into a black hollow hole.

Somehow, she felt safe standing here with him, he didn’t seem like he was going to harm her and she tried to steady her heartbeat reassuring herself that if he wanted to harm her, he would have done so before now.

“Are you the one who’s been watching me?”

“Yes” he replied without hesitation and she was impressed by his honesty.

“Why?” She asked again and he tilted his head to the left, she found it amusing, the way he tilted his head.

“Why? Hmm…” he put a finger on his chin “I’m not sure I understand why”

She giggled “Okay, you’re a funny vampire. You got a name?”

“Aamon”

“Aamon? My name is Hadassah”

“I know” he responded

“Right. Of course, you know that. You’ve been watching me”

“It’s nothing creepy” he replied looking a bit embarrassed and she had to admit it was a bit cute. But she still felt the need to ask,

“People have been dying and this mark happens to be on their necks” She showed him pictures of the dead bodies and his eyes darkened.

“So you assume….”

“Well, you are a vampire. It’s only right for me to assume. These are fang marks….”

“I didn’t do it” he replied sharply and she narrowed her eyes.

“So who did?” she asked, and he shrugged “Are there other vampires?”

“None that I know about”

“So you’re basically the only vampire,” she asked, and he nodded looking a bit uncertain.

“And where do you live?”

“Somewhere, but I frequent the old house that people call ‘cursed’. Is this an interrogation detective?” He raised a brow.

“Maybe, maybe not.” she crossed her arms as he took a seat on her desk chair, crossed his

long legs and faced her.

‘So, he's the one people see standing by the window?’ she thought

.

“Let the interrogation continue”

She chuckled but continued anyway

“How old are you Mister Aamon?”

“A hundred and twenty years old”

“This is that part of the story where if I had a drink in my mouth, I’ll suddenly spit it out.” She said and he chuckled “a hundred and twenty? Wow, you’ve lived for more than a century. Were you born a vampire?”

He laughed, it was a short, humorless laughter “Honey, no one is born a vampire. Plus, female vampires can’t give birth, it’s impossible. So I can’t be born a vampire”

“So you were turned into one? How?”

“I was bitten”

“And where is this vampire who bit you?”

“He’s dead. I killed him”

“I thought vampires are supposed to be immortal”

“We can be killed. Ever heard of a wooden stake through the heart?”

“Oh. Right!”

There was a long silence as she thought about how to put the words she was about to say in a way that wouldn’t annoy him.

“Mister….”

“Just Aamon please”

“Okay, Aamon, you’re a vampire, right? And vampires drink blood right? And you live in the cursed house, right? Well, the people who’ve been dying are being found outside that building with a strange mark on their necks and no blood in their bodies. There’s no easy way to say this but all signs point to you since you’re the only vampire around.” She drew in a sharp breath before saying “Do you mind if I take you in, like in the station….?”

His eyes darkened and she quickly added “For more questioning obviously”

He stood up abruptly and he looked visibly upset as his dark eyes became darker. He smirked a bit before replying,

“If that’s the case Detective Hadassah Alyssa Darby, you’re gonna have to catch me first. By the way, I said I live somewhere else, not at the old house. Let me give you a hint as to where you'll find me for more ‘questioning’ I’ll be at the old building”

With that being said, he vanished and the wind that rushed in at his disappearance told her he was gone.

“Shit!” She spat “If he’s so innocent, then why is he running” She thought about going to the cursed house but she suddenly remembered her dream.

Someone or something is trying to keep her from going there, could it be Aamon? But why would he tell her where he was if he was trying to keep her away?

Something strange was definitely going on and she was determined to find out what

______________

Aamon’s POV

He gave a sad sigh. What did he expect, of course she’ll think he did it, nothing had ever hurt him more than the look of suspicion and distrust on her face. He was a vampire and obviously, he'd be her first suspect, He also had no clue of who was doing it and she was right, it all points to a vampire. Someone was clearly trying to set him up and he'll get to the bottom of it.

He thought about her, he was so close to her today and she wasn't even afraid of him after telling her what he was, he listened to her heartbeat and it didn't increase, her heart still beat normally.

Her scent lingered on him from sitting in her chair and he savored it. He thought about her laughter, it was like a melody to his ears, he had never heard such a beautiful sound since he got turned into a vampire.

He had told her to meet him here, but would she really come? He wondered. Would she trust him enough to come to an abandoned house to see a vampire?
