“What….who are you?” She asked in fear. Her hands were shaking but she tried to steady herself. He tilted his head and replied.
“I’m a vampire” he replied simply and she burst into laughter, it was a nervous kind of laughter, she was trying to mask her fear with the laughter. “Vampire? Really?” She paused and studied him carefully “I believe in angels and demons, I believe in God and satan but vampires?” She chuckled again before saying “Vampires aren’t real” He watched her for a long time, shrugged and said “okay” then he vanished. Now she really started to panic, he was still in her room but he was invisible and if he really was a vampire, he could attack her. “Alright fine! I believe you, you’re a vampire. Now could you please show yourself?” He materialized right in front of her and they stood staring at each other, her, trying to process the fact that an actual vampire was standing in her room and he staring at her with curiosity and amusement. It’s funny she thinks the gun she was holding would have any effect on him. “What do you want?” Hadassah finally asked after minutes of silence. “Can you please put the gun down?” He asked politely and she did. He was very attractive for a vampire, he was tall and skinny with an athletic build, his pale skin shone under the moonlight ray, his raven black hair was neatly gelled back with one strand falling on his face, and his lips were as red as blood and his fangs were visible whenever he talked. He wore all black blending with the darkness, he looked breathtaking and she found herself unable to look away from his dark eyes which was like looking into a black hollow hole. Somehow, she felt safe standing here with him, he didn’t seem like he was going to harm her and she tried to steady her heartbeat reassuring herself that if he wanted to harm her, he would have done so before now. “Are you the one who’s been watching me?” “Yes” he replied without hesitation and she was impressed by his honesty. “Why?” She asked again and he tilted his head to the left, she found it amusing, the way he tilted his head. “Why? Hmm…” he put a finger on his chin “I’m not sure I understand why” She giggled “Okay, you’re a funny vampire. You got a name?” “Aamon” “Aamon? My name is Hadassah” “I know” he responded “Right. Of course, you know that. You’ve been watching me” “It’s nothing creepy” he replied looking a bit embarrassed and she had to admit it was a bit cute. But she still felt the need to ask, “People have been dying and this mark happens to be on their necks” She showed him pictures of the dead bodies and his eyes darkened. “So you assume….” “Well, you are a vampire. It’s only right for me to assume. These are fang marks….” “I didn’t do it” he replied sharply and she narrowed her eyes. “So who did?” she asked, and he shrugged “Are there other vampires?” “None that I know about” “So you’re basically the only vampire,” she asked, and he nodded looking a bit uncertain. “And where do you live?” “Somewhere, but I frequent the old house that people call ‘cursed’. Is this an interrogation detective?” He raised a brow. “Maybe, maybe not.” she crossed her arms as he took a seat on her desk chair, crossed his long legs and faced her. ‘So, he's the one people see standing by the window?’ she thought . “Let the interrogation continue” She chuckled but continued anyway “How old are you Mister Aamon?” “A hundred and twenty years old” “This is that part of the story where if I had a drink in my mouth, I’ll suddenly spit it out.” She said and he chuckled “a hundred and twenty? Wow, you’ve lived for more than a century. Were you born a vampire?” He laughed, it was a short, humorless laughter “Honey, no one is born a vampire. Plus, female vampires can’t give birth, it’s impossible. So I can’t be born a vampire” “So you were turned into one? How?” “I was bitten” “And where is this vampire who bit you?” “He’s dead. I killed him” “I thought vampires are supposed to be immortal” “We can be killed. Ever heard of a wooden stake through the heart?” “Oh. Right!” There was a long silence as she thought about how to put the words she was about to say in a way that wouldn’t annoy him. “Mister….” “Just Aamon please” “Okay, Aamon, you’re a vampire, right? And vampires drink blood right? And you live in the cursed house, right? Well, the people who’ve been dying are being found outside that building with a strange mark on their necks and no blood in their bodies. There’s no easy way to say this but all signs point to you since you’re the only vampire around.” She drew in a sharp breath before saying “Do you mind if I take you in, like in the station….?” His eyes darkened and she quickly added “For more questioning obviously” He stood up abruptly and he looked visibly upset as his dark eyes became darker. He smirked a bit before replying, “If that’s the case Detective Hadassah Alyssa Darby, you’re gonna have to catch me first. By the way, I said I live somewhere else, not at the old house. Let me give you a hint as to where you'll find me for more ‘questioning’ I’ll be at the old building” With that being said, he vanished and the wind that rushed in at his disappearance told her he was gone. “Shit!” She spat “If he’s so innocent, then why is he running” She thought about going to the cursed house but she suddenly remembered her dream. Someone or something is trying to keep her from going there, could it be Aamon? But why would he tell her where he was if he was trying to keep her away? Something strange was definitely going on and she was determined to find out what ______________ Aamon’s POV He gave a sad sigh. What did he expect, of course she’ll think he did it, nothing had ever hurt him more than the look of suspicion and distrust on her face. He was a vampire and obviously, he'd be her first suspect, He also had no clue of who was doing it and she was right, it all points to a vampire. Someone was clearly trying to set him up and he'll get to the bottom of it. He thought about her, he was so close to her today and she wasn't even afraid of him after telling her what he was, he listened to her heartbeat and it didn't increase, her heart still beat normally. Her scent lingered on him from sitting in her chair and he savored it. He thought about her laughter, it was like a melody to his ears, he had never heard such a beautiful sound since he got turned into a vampire. He had told her to meet him here, but would she really come? He wondered. Would she trust him enough to come to an abandoned house to see a vampire?“I told you!” Hadassah whispered to Isabella and she looked up at her with a suspicious look “Told me what?”“That something supernatural is going on. I finally got to the bottom of it, not the whole thing really, I think I might have stumbled upon another mystery but I managed to solve a personal mystery. The person who's been watching me all this while is not in my head, he's real and you'll never guess what he is”Bella sighed in exasperation “a vampire?”“A handsome vampire. God, Bella, you need to see him, he was breathtaking, those fangs, his eyes, it was like looking into hell fire. So intensely wicked yet so beautiful….”“Are you okay? Did you bump your head or something?”Hadassah rolled her eyes “Do I sound like I'm hallucinating?”“YES! You do sound like you're hallucinating, you've lost your damn mind. Are you aware that you're obsessed with a fictional character…”“He's not fictional…!”“Vampires aren't real!”“He's real! I saw him, he was in my bedroom and he spoke to
“You came?” Aamon said with a relieved expression as he extended his arms out for a hug. She hesitated but then retaliated. Hugging him felt like she was in a safe haven. His body was firm, his grip on her was steady and he smelled of death mixed with blood and a little bit of earth. She disengaged from the hug and took one step back to scan him from head to toe. He was in all black as usual, his hair looked greasy than the last time she saw him, the strand of hair still fell over his face and he looked even paler, he stood like royalty. His entire movement was slow and graceful but the aura that emanated from him was mesmerizing, it was like danger mixed with seduction.“Was there ever a doubt?” She asked “A little, yeah” he answered honestly “Well, there shouldn’t be” He smiled for the first time and she had to admit, he looked even more mesmerizing when he smiled. His pure white fangs were more visible that way and watching it made her neck itch for some reason.“So…” she star
“So what happened after that?” she asked “I realized what I had done but it was too late. He was dead and I couldn't undo it. I wept and when I didn't know what else to do, I ran away”“You ran away?”“Yeah, I didn't want what happened to John to happen to anyone else close to me especially not my family but they were getting worried, the news was filled with my missing posters, I just had to go back home. I was missing for four days. I went into the woods, I learnt to keep my appetite for human blood under control so I wouldn't hurt anybody again. And it worked until my family died, then I went wild. I killed those responsible for their death and their families too. My appetite became insatiable after that. I've spent more than a hundred years learning to curb that and that's why you can sit here in front of me without any fear”“Who told you I'm not afraid?” she asked “If you are, you're doing a good job of hiding it. Your heart is beating normally”She smiled before replying “did
Her blush deepened as they kept staring at each other. He looked serious for a while before a playful grin spread across his lips.“Relax, I was joking, I told her you were working on a case and that you’ll get back to her once you’re available”“Did you tell her what case I was working on?”“Yeah I told her you were working on the abandoned building. Any problem?”“No, no problem. I have to call her back now, she’ll be worried sick”She picked up her phone and called her mother.__________“Who were you with last night?” Isabella asked eyeing her suspiciously. Hadassah froze momentarily then tried to mask her surprise with confusion.“Wh—what do you mean? I'm confused”“Your mum called me yesterday, well midnight to be precise. She wanted to know if we were working on the case together. I told her no but that I'll ask Reynolds and Gerald…”“And?”“I called them but they said they weren’t with you but someone answered your phone and told your mum that you guys were together so who w
Hadassah’s POVIt was a chilly, gloomy rainy day, we all stood with our umbrellas under the rain to bury the man who was once known as my father.I watched as the coffin was laid gently into the ground, my mother's sobbing intensified as the coffin lowered.I gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze as it continued to shake violently. I couldn't cry, I don't know why the tears are refusing to fall. I guess I've held it in for so long, they've formed a lump in my chest. This just got personal! I thought.Whoever was behind the killings just crossed the line. They think they've won, but the war was just starting.I looked around, taking in each of the faces present. They were a few close relatives, some friends, neighbors and colleagues from work, nothing odd but I'm sure we were being watched.I'll catch the killer, that's for sure. No matter how long it takes, I'll catch the person.***************I felt him, even before he made himself visible, the gust of wind gave his arrival away. He m
She knew she saw the right thing. How would she not know what a woman's back looked like? She was a woman herself so it's very unlikely that she won't know what a female's back looks like. She also saw that the woman had waist-length brunette hair.“Whoever you are, I'm going to get you” she whispered to herself.************Hadassah sat in her dimly lit office in the night, most of her co-workers had gone home, including Isabella. The glow of the desk lamp casted long shadows on the stacks of case files piled high around her. The room was heavy with the scent of stale coffee and the weight of unanswered questions. She had been working tirelessly on the mysterious case of the missing people week after week, losing sleep, only to be met with dead ends at every turn. The victims, all seemingly unconnected, had vanished without a trace. Days passed by, and soon their lifeless bodies were discovered in front of the abandoned building, some were even found the next day. Their bodies disc
Hadassah’s POVI waited for the pain to come, letting my life flash before me. So this was it for me? I didn't realize I'll be dying this young. There are so many things I haven't done and would probably never get to do again. I didn't even get to tell my mum goodbye, she'll probably be worried and after finding out what happened to me tonight, I doubt she'll be able to function well. I guess this is what I get for blindly trusting a vampire.Tears streamed down my face as I readied myself for the pain about to come.I waited…I waited…And waited…But nothing seemed to be happening. What the hell is happening? Is biting really that painless, because I don’t feel anything? I should be on my way to maybe heaven or hell by now but for some reason, I’m still here, I can still feel my physical body, only without the weight of his hands again.I opened my eyes slowly to see him looking at s
“Tea?” he offered but she glared at him, her eyes telling him that she wasn't here for any form of pleasantries.“Alright then, we'll skip the tea” Aamon added as he took a seat. She sat across him, leaned forward and then said “now, talk”“Is that a command?” he asked playfully, trying to lighten the mood of the atmosphere but Hadassah didn't smile.“I'm not here to joke, Aamon. I want answers”He sighed in resignation and then started talking.“Yes, it was me who bit him. He's not John and the reason he didn't die was because he wasn't the first person I bit after becoming a vampire. See, the thing is, as a vampire, human blood is a necessity for us. There's just no way around it. We can try to substitute it with animal blood for a while, but after some time, our bodies begin to demand human blood. It's like our vitamins”He paused to see how she was takin
