Chapter thirty-one

She placed a gentle kiss on his forehead as she stood up from where she had been laying beside him on the bed.

She observed his closed eyes with sadness. He was asleep! To think that just few nights ago, he told her that vampires don't sleep, nor get tired, now here he was, sleeping soundly.

It felt unnatural, watching him sleep and she knew she couldn't leave him like this.

She had to act. Surely, something could be done.

She was determined to find a solution as she gently closed the door behind her and headed downstairs where she met the maid in charge of the house—Mrs Peterson— who was waiting with a worried expression. She looked expectantly as Hadassah descended the stairs.

“Is Master Steiner okay?” She asked, looking worried and Hadassah wondered how much the woman knew.

“Why do you ask?” She asked, trying not to give too much away.
