I woke to the sound of someone puking and I realized the bed beside me was empty. “Amory?” I called out to her.

“I’m fine”, I hear her call back from the bathroom before her stomach unloads again. I got up from the bed and walked to the bathroom door, where I found her wrapped around the toilet practically. Amory’s small body shakes as she dry heaves!

“That doesn’t look fine to me”, I tell her as I pull her pink hair back from her face. She looks exhausted. I stood up and started the shower, then walked back over to Amory and helped her to her feet. “Shower, it’ll make you feel better”, I told her as I walked out of the bathroom.

“Thank you”, she tells me as I pass by.

She comes out of the bathroom wrapped in just a towel several minutes later and plops down onto the bed not realizing I’m still here in the room. “Feel better?” I ask, making her practically jump out of her own skin as she throws the blanket over herself! “Seriously Amory, that towel is probab

Shit! Fuck! Pregnancy sucks is all I can think of as my head hangs over the toilet of Jonny’s bathroom, which is thankfully very clean considering a male uses it! I’m dry heaving as I hear Jonny’s half-asleep and raspy voice call me from the bathroom door. “Amory”? “I’m fine”, I lied! I’m so not fine… Did I mention pregnancy sucks?! I hear him approach as my stomach riles up and releases more of its contents into the toilet. “That doesn’t look fine to me”, he says, and pulls my hair back from my face as I continue to spew vomit out. When I finally lean back against the cold wall, he rises to his feet and starts the shower. Then he walks back over to me and pulls me up to stand, “shower, it’ll make you feel better”. I whisper, “thank you”, as he passes me on his way out of the bathroom. When I’m done showering, I really do feel a lot better, and I plop myself down on the bed while still wrapped in the towel. “Feel better?” Jonny asks from the desk chair, sca

After breakfast, Amory packs up all her stuff and I drive her back to her apartment. When we get there, she dumps the contents of her duffle bag into her hamper and immediately starts cleaning her already spotless house. “What are you doing, mi Amor?” (mi love) I ask her. “Oh, I need to get my laundry cleaned so I was getting it all together”, she says. “How do you plan on getting that to the laundromat?” I asked her. “Drag it in the hamper like I always do”, she says, dead seriously. I cannot believe what I’m hearing, “Amory, I can drop you off”. “That's not necessary”, she says. “It’s dirty laundry, you don’t need to be handling it”! I have to laugh at her and pull her onto my lap on her couch. “Amory, you’ve literally just spent the past week parading around my mother’s house in a bikini and sleeping in a bed with me that’s half the size of your own. Do you honestly think I’m bothered by seeing your dirty clothes”? “No, but that doesn’t mea

I woke up late in the morning, and headed to the kitchen with Jonny to eat breakfast. Funny, I was never really a breakfast eater until I started staying here, but it’s what’s best for my baby anyway. When we are done, I help clean up and then return to Jonny’s room to gather all of my things. I know I definitely have forgotten some stuff, but Jonny lives here so I can always just ask him to bring it whenever I notice what’s missing. He, of course, has to see me inside and carry all of my stuff in too. I immediately went into cleanup mode because I haven’t been here in almost a week and I feel like the apartment is dusty, or stuffy, or just not clean! Yeah, I know they call this nesting, but I’d probably react the same way even if I wasn’t pregnant!“What are you doing, mi Amor?” (mi love) Jonny asks me from where he sits on my couch.“Oh, I need to get my laundry cleaned so I was getting it all together”, I explained.“How do you plan on getting that to the lau

I’m exhausted as I sit parked outside my mother’s house waiting for my pregnant sister’s whiny ass. She insists that all pregnant women are whiny and she’s normal… I didn’t knock her up. Why am I the one stuck dealing with her pettiness?! She gives me the address and as I’m plugging it into the navigation on my phone, it pops up as Amory’s doctor. That’s weird! “I thought you said I’m taking you to the doctor for the baby”, I said to Emilia. “You are! Can you drive? I’m running late”, she barks at me. “I was here on time, don’t blame me for that”, I snapped back at her. When we pull up, Emilia notices the odd look on my face! “What?”, she asks. I shook my head as I turned the car off, “I think I bought Amory here before”. “Well, a woman her age would regularly come here like every year for their Pap test, Jonny”, she says. “Plus, there is more than one type of doctor in here. Maybe she was here for another reason”. I shrug and exit the car wit

I’m watching TV with Bo when I get a text… Which I find odd because there are literally less than thirty people in my contacts, and more than half of them work for me! It’s from Jonny… *****can we talk?***** *****sure, what’s up?***** *****in person***** *****now?***** *****yea***** *****ok, come over***** *****already here, b rite up***** I’m in the middle of telling Bo that Jonny is coming to talk to me when he walks through the door, surprising the both of us. “So as I was just saying, excuse us please Bo. We’ll take this into my bedroom, Jonny”. Bo sits back down at my kitchen table as Jonny and I head into my bedroom. I know whatever he has to say is serious because he shuts the door behind us. I take a seat on the edge of my bed and pat the bed next to me for him to sit, but he begins pacing the floor in front of me. It’s not like a leisurely slow pace, but a rough step with purpose! “Are you quitting?”, because I honestly

I’m awoken by Amory scrambling out of my arms and darting for the bathroom! She’s puking still? Bo is out cold on her couch as I walk by him on my way to the bathroom. “Amory, why are you still having morning sickness”? She sits back against the wall and says, “because it’s not guaranteed to stop after the first trimester”! “Come on, mi Amor”, (my love) I tell her as I lift her to her feet. She dangles in my arms and starts to cry, “I’m still your love”? I don’t know why I find this so funny! I laugh as I pull her into my chest, “oh Amory, your emotional outbursts finally make sense”! To this, she also laughs through her tears. At the meeting, Amory confesses to Max, Rich, and Charlene about her baby. She also offers for them to exit their contracts without penalty, to which they all decline… We all agree to continue working for her and you can tell she’s grateful. Mine and Bo’s contracts are amended and everyone’s schedules are adjusted to reflect the

Oh no, fuck! Shit! I’m squirming furiously as Jonny’s grip tightens around me in his sleepy state. Please, Lord… Make him let me go! I’m finally able to scramble out of his hold in time to leap off the bed and make it to the bathroom before my stomach unloads into the toilet. As I lean back against the wall for support, Jonny enters the bathroom doorway and says, “Amory, why are you still having morning sickness”? I lift my head up to look at him and say, “because it’s not guaranteed to stop after the first trimester”! “Come on, mi Amor”, (my love) he says gently as he helps me to my feet. But all I hear is that he’s still calling me his love, and I don’t know why this affects me the way it does. As he wraps his arms gently around me, I cry, “I’m still your love”? Jonny begins to laugh as he pulls me into him tighter and says, “oh Amory, your emotional outbursts finally make sense”! Now I find this whole thing funny and start laughing too. Jonny drives

Amory goes several days past her due date, and as each day passes she becomes more and more emotional. Eight days in, she’s absolutely hysterical in my arms. I don’t know what to do for her until she wails out what clearly is a cry of pain. She leans over like she’s struggling to breathe! Charlene is supposed to be here for this, I should not be here! When I can’t watch her squeal in agony any longer, I lift her into my arms to carry her to the car, when I’m instantly soaked in warm fluid. Did she just pee on me? I froze in shock with her still in my arms! “Jonny, my water just broke”, she whispers, and I set her back down on her feet and watch as she scrambles off to the bathroom. She comes back with a stack of clean towels and bends down to clean the floor. “What are you doing, mi Amor?” (my love) I ask her, but she ignores me. Is this fucking girl serious right now? She’s in labor and cleaning her living room floor. “Amory, it’s time to go”, I tell her as I grab on

Never in a million years nor in my wildest dreams would I have imagined my life would end up like this… That accepting a job offer from my father’s shady-ass narc would have led to me being married to the woman of my dreams, with a daughter and son. I know Stephany isn’t mine by blood, but she’s mine in every way that counts, right down to the last name. When we returned to court in November, I petitioned the judge to let me adopt Stephany. “Your honor, I know this is sudden”, I tell the judge as I walk over to the defendant's table. Amory looks at me like I’ve lost my mind. “In lieu of Mr. Hart’s passing, I’d like to petition the court to adopt and be named the legal father of Stephany”. “What are you doing, Jonny?” Amory squeals out as the courtroom erupts into loud gasps. “Mr. Knight, you do understand that includes taking financial responsibility for the child in addition to legal responsibility right?”, the judge asks. I nod, ”yes your honor. I do and I

  • In Three Years   Chapter 40: What if... - Amory

I wake up in the bed of my Brooklyn apartment wrapped in Jonny’s arms, and if we weren’t both completely naked I’d almost be inclined to believe that the last few months of my life were just some really bad dream. I called Spin last night and plead with him for space, and after promising to return to the lake house by Saturday he reluctantly agreed. I feel sick, although I don’t admit this to Jonny. Instead, I emphasize that my feet hurt, my back hurts, my boobs hurt, my butt even hurts, and I’m just tired beyond exhaustion. He does what he can to comfort me, but I know the stress of my situation is starting to become daunting to all of us involved. I’m bored to death with Jonny’s constant babying of me and when I suggest going down to the club for our last night here in Brooklyn, he agrees yet straight up tries to dress me! Eventually, I get my way, however, I do swap the shoe suggestion for the shorter wedged heels he chose from the stilettos I originally picked. Jo

Each day becomes more and more miserable without them, and by Friday I’m losing my fucking mind! So, pardon my shock when Jonny calls me and I send it to voicemail the first three times before actually answering, “what”?“Amory is missing”, he practically whispers.“What the fuck did you just say?” I growl out.“Amory is missing”, he screams into the phone. “I need you to get down here. The police want to have a word with you”!“Where’s my fucking daughter, Jonny?” I bark out frantically. He sighs, “she’s fine! She’s upstairs in the apartment. I am understandably pissed the fuck off since Amory’s last date with Spencer. She brings me out to the spot by the lake we’d snuck off to a few times, only to tell me they had sex the night before. I’m disgusted, but the fact that she admits to being somewhat drunk when it happened really bothers me… Like he took advantage of her and she doesn’t even acknowledge that part! After three days of me silently hovering around her, she reaches her breaking point and corners me in the kitchen. I suggest we put some distance between us and Spencer, and she immediately agrees. So it’s our first visit back to my mother’s since we’ve made the move upstate! Amory is fatigued from just the ride down and is asleep when we arrive. I carry her to our bedroom and let her nap it off a little, while I tend to Stephany. After getting my princess settled with my niece in the living room, I head to the kitchen to sit with my mother as she cooks, making sure I can see my princess from where

This morning I hear Amory vomiting from her bathroom since her bedroom door has been left open. She’s due to appear in court today and her anxiety is simply sweltering over. As if Stephany can sense her mother’s tension, she clings to me like a leech unless in her car seat. She won’t even allow her mother to carry her, clearly, she is still my princess even with Spencer in her life! Rich and I leave our guns in my car before we walk into the same courthouse as the last time. Amory looks pale, and she is visibly shaken as her case is called forward. We’re all directed to the plaintiff's stand as Spencer is directed to the defendant's stand. Neither one of them has looked at each other since we’ve left the lake house! When the judge walks to the bench she says, “Ms. Williams, nice to finally meet you! Please explain to me what on Earth is going on here and why this divorce case now has a paternity request attached to it”. Amory inhales sharply then says, “yes, your

The sun is beaming in my face, but I’m so cozy as the hammock swings gently in the morning breeze. Amory is still asleep in my arms while I rub her back. She sighs before she rubs her face into my chest and inhales deeply. This is like her signal she’s about to wake up but it still makes me laugh, even after three years because it’s just that cute! My phone vibrates in my pocket disturbing her, as I wedge my hand between the two of us to grab it. It’s a message from Charlene who rarely ever texts me. She’s looking for Amory and says she’s been trying to reach her since Friday. Come to think of it, I haven’t seen Amory’s phone at all this weekend! “Amory, where’s your phone?” I ask her. She shrugs before she says, “in my room probably. Why”? “Charlene has been tryna reach you”, I tell her but she just sighs lazily. “She wants an approval to do a duet theme night for karaoke this week”. “Like couples karaoke?”, she questions, and I nod at her. “I guess th

I pull her down on top of me but she brings her finger to her lips urging me to be quiet. I finally look around the room to see we are still in the lake house living room with everyone asleep around us. Amory climbs off of me and pulls me to follow her off the sofa. We walk quietly out of the front door before she tosses my car keys to me. Obviously, she has something planned, she’s never up this early in the morning! She has me drive a short distance down the road before pulling back off of it, and onto a dirt path that leads down to the waterfront where I park. When she gets out of the car, she starts stripping down before climbing into the water in her underwear. Once she resurfaces I look at her confused, “what are you doing, mi Amor” (mi love)? “Waiting for you to come ravish m
