Oh no, fuck! Shit! I’m squirming furiously as Jonny’s grip tightens around me in his sleepy state. Please, Lord… Make him let me go! I’m finally able to scramble out of his hold in time to leap off the bed and make it to the bathroom before my stomach unloads into the toilet. As I lean back against the wall for support, Jonny enters the bathroom doorway and says, “Amory, why are you still having morning sickness”?

I lift my head up to look at him and say, “because it’s not guaranteed to stop after the first trimester”!

“Come on, mi Amor”, (my love) he says gently as he helps me to my feet. But all I hear is that he’s still calling me his love, and I don’t know why this affects me the way it does.

As he wraps his arms gently around me, I cry, “I’m still your love”?

Jonny begins to laugh as he pulls me into him tighter and says, “oh Amory, your emotional outbursts finally make sense”! Now I find this whole thing funny and start laughing too.

Amory goes several days past her due date, and as each day passes she becomes more and more emotional. Eight days in, she’s absolutely hysterical in my arms. I don’t know what to do for her until she wails out what clearly is a cry of pain. She leans over like she’s struggling to breathe! Charlene is supposed to be here for this, I should not be here! When I can’t watch her squeal in agony any longer, I lift her into my arms to carry her to the car, when I’m instantly soaked in warm fluid. Did she just pee on me? I froze in shock with her still in my arms! “Jonny, my water just broke”, she whispers, and I set her back down on her feet and watch as she scrambles off to the bathroom. She comes back with a stack of clean towels and bends down to clean the floor. “What are you doing, mi Amor?” (my love) I ask her, but she ignores me. Is this fucking girl serious right now? She’s in labor and cleaning her living room floor. “Amory, it’s time to go”, I tell her as I grab on

  • In Three Years   Chapter 10: Birth - Amory

It’s the last day of March, and my daughter is now over a week late. I can’t ignore the worried looks on everyone’s faces as each day passes. I don’t know what has gotten into me this morning, but all I want to do is cry. Jonny does his best to console me, but it’s useless… Until I start feeling lower back pain! I’m breathing heavily when Jonny notices me bent over from the feeling. He’s on the phone with his mother, who tells him I’ve likely gone into labor and that we should head to the hospital. I insisted on calling and waiting for Charlene, and Jonny, of course, obliged my request until the pains became so unbearable and frequent that I allowed myself to cry out loud from the pain. “Enough Amory”, Jonny tells me as I continue to protest about going to the hospital and he lifts me into his arms. I don’t know if it’s the baby, the labor, or the sudden motion of Jonny lifting me, but my water breaks all over him. He freezes in shock! “Jonny, my water just broke

  • In Three Years   Chapter 11: Open Season - Jonny and Amory

~JONNY~ My mother spends the next two days of Amory’s hospital stay getting her apartment ready for her to come home with the baby, and when I bring them home from the hospital, Amory’s living room looks like the girl section of a baby store had blown up in it! “Oh my God, wow”, is all she manages to get out of her mouth before my mother is rambling on and on! I can tell she is overwhelmed because Amory buries her face in my arm. This has become her signal for: make whatever it is stop and go away! “Mamá, ¿por qué no te llevas a Gabby para que Amory pueda dormir?” (Mom, why don't you take Gabby so Amory can sleep?) I tell her and she gladly yanks the carrier from my hand. “Thank you”, she whispers as I lift her into my arms and carry her to the bedroom. My mother stays a solid two weeks at Amory’s apartment, like you would honestly swear it was my kid she just gave birth to. When all is said and done though, I don’t know who the father of Amory’s baby is and

***the previous chapter is the last chapter in which Amory’s POV will appear. We have now arrived at the point of the original book ‘Damaged’ on the chapter titled ‘Three Years Later’ if you wish to read both books as they occur in-sync with each other***Amory is behind the bar dressed in a black halter top with black booty shorts and silver stilettos, which is typical for her, and I see her kick into high gear when Sy starts waving to get someone’s attention. We all know that this is do-or-die time! But a couple of drunk dumb fucks smashed to the ground behind me, breaking glasses and spilling liquor everywhere. “Charge this for a case of new glasses”, I heard Amory tell Mel. When I turned back around to the bar, she was mid-air in Bo’s grip, being lifted up onto the top of the bar. She stomps her stiletto onto the countertop before kicking the broken glass to the ground and yelling, “hey break it up asshats”! Her voice is so powerful that everyone freezes and their gazes all snap

  • In Three Years   Chapter 13: Karaoke Flipped - Jonny

The next day, Amory was in good spirits pretty much all day, but it was one of the two monthly karaoke nights at the club and these were Amory’s favorite nights. Ever since doing karaoke with Amory in my mother’s yard, this is something that Courtney and Melanie always tease us over and, from time to time, we entertain everyone with our version of Love Lies! Tonight, however, we’re doing solo acts! I’ve chosen ‘Crush’ by David Archuleta. So, after the new girl Alina nearly splits our eardrums open with her Melissa Etheridge number, I jump up onto the stage. When Amory first suggested we do this to keep compliance instead of closing the club as other places do, most of us were against it. But we now have regulars who come to them and they, of course, clap when we get on stage because they know we’re good! I see Amory and Charlene giggling together while I perform, and I can only imagine what Charlene isn’t saying to her, since she literally has no filter. But I really

  • In Three Years   Chapter 14: My Princess - Jonny

I wake up under the weight of Amory’s stare, with her two-year-old daughter asleep on my chest still… You know what? Fuck that! Our two-year-old… We’ve just spent the last two and a half years raising her together! “Mi Amor, what’s wrong, Amory?” (my love) I say when I see the look of determination on her face. “I’m tired of hiding, this was never me”, she says as she points to her now black hair. “I did this to hide the fact that Gabby’s hair color was from her father and not me. I need to be me again”! I know this is the truth, we had this conversation over a year ago when she started dying her hair black. It was always pink prior to that, and I didn’t know until then that she was actually blonde naturally, like platinum blonde. I wrapped my arms around Stephany, who still lay asleep on my chest, cradling her so I could sit up. “Okay, what’s your next move”? “I get my look back and then I get comfortable being on my bike again”, she tells me. I’m all for the pi

Early in the morning when Stephany wakes, she climbs right up onto me and brings her nose to my nose. “YaYa”, she says when I finally open my eyes, making me chuckle. This little girl brightens my day! “Come on princess”, I told her as I wrapped my arms around her. “Let’s go get dressed”! I take her back to her room where she picks out a purple tee and a denim skirt, then some purple frilly socks with white Nike sneakers. I brush her curly hair out and it bobbles in a loose mess around her face. I took her watch from the charger and fixed it to her wrist before we headed back to the living room! She’s straddling my lap in the midst of her giggling fit when Amory stumbles down the hall. “Say morning Mama”, I tell Stephany, but blow bubbles into her neck, making her laugh out instead. Amory just stares at me adoringly before turning back to her room to get ready for this outing with her husband! As she’s making her way back down the hall after getting dressed, the

  • In Three Years   Chapter 16: Murderous Intentions On My Mind

Amory sleeps the morning away, and I’m not too sure if it’s because she spent all night tossing and turning or if she is just trying to avoid facing us. Regardless, we all leave her be! When we get into the club, she heads right to work at the bar and it’s as if things have gone back to normal. Her husband is a no-show! I’m trying to coax her out onto the dance floor, but this woman keeps trying to grab up on me. At one point, I catch Amory watching my interaction with the woman, and when I smirk at Amory, she rolls her eyes at me and diverts her attention elsewhere. It was the last time I managed to make eye contact with her, and it left me feeling stupid for the rest of the night. Amory should know she’s the only woman alive that has my attention! It was late on Tuesday evening, and Amory still hadn’t come down from her apartment, so I went up after her. “Mi Amor, everyone is looking for you”, (my love) I called out to her, thinking I probably should have checked th

Never in a million years nor in my wildest dreams would I have imagined my life would end up like this… That accepting a job offer from my father’s shady-ass narc would have led to me being married to the woman of my dreams, with a daughter and son. I know Stephany isn’t mine by blood, but she’s mine in every way that counts, right down to the last name. When we returned to court in November, I petitioned the judge to let me adopt Stephany. “Your honor, I know this is sudden”, I tell the judge as I walk over to the defendant's table. Amory looks at me like I’ve lost my mind. “In lieu of Mr. Hart’s passing, I’d like to petition the court to adopt and be named the legal father of Stephany”. “What are you doing, Jonny?” Amory squeals out as the courtroom erupts into loud gasps. “Mr. Knight, you do understand that includes taking financial responsibility for the child in addition to legal responsibility right?”, the judge asks. I nod, ”yes your honor. I do and I

Amory’s period is a day late and the funny shit is she doesn’t even notice, and if she does she’s keeping it to herself. However, she does emphasize to me how tired she feels, so on Friday night when she wants to go down to the club I’m surprised. I know better than to tell her no though, but I do convince her to wear shoes with a smaller heel. • In Three Years   Chapter 40: What if... - Amory

I wake up in the bed of my Brooklyn apartment wrapped in Jonny’s arms, and if we weren’t both completely naked I’d almost be inclined to believe that the last few months of my life were just some really bad dream. I called Spin last night and plead with him for space, and after promising to return to the lake house by Saturday he reluctantly agreed. I feel sick, although I don’t admit this to Jonny. Instead, I emphasize that my feet hurt, my back hurts, my boobs hurt, my butt even hurts, and I’m just tired beyond exhaustion. He does what he can to comfort me, but I know the stress of my situation is starting to become daunting to all of us involved. I’m bored to death with Jonny’s constant babying of me and when I suggest going down to the club for our last night here in Brooklyn, he agrees yet straight up tries to dress me! Eventually, I get my way, however, I do swap the shoe suggestion for the shorter wedged heels he chose from the stilettos I originally picked. Jo

Loyalty and Stephany spend one night with Jonny at his mother’s house before returning to her Brooklyn apartment. She calls me and pleads with me for space, and we agree that she’ll return to the lake house with our daughter on Saturday. Each day becomes more and more miserable without them, and by Friday I’m losing my fucking mind! So, pardon my shock when Jonny calls me and I send it to voicemail the first three times before actually answering, “what”?“Amory is missing”, he practically whispers.“What the fuck did you just say?” I growl out.“Amory is missing”, he screams into the phone. “I need you to get down here. The police want to have a word with you”!“Where’s my fucking daughter, Jonny?” I bark out frantically. He sighs, “she’s fine! She’s upstairs in the apartment. How long until you get here Spin”?“An hour”, I tell him before hanging up. I dial Gabe and he bolts down the stairs like a flash of lightning and we’re out of the door within

  • In Three Years   Chapter 38: Visiting Mamá - Jonny

I am understandably pissed the fuck off since Amory’s last date with Spencer. She brings me out to the spot by the lake we’d snuck off to a few times, only to tell me they had sex the night before. I’m disgusted, but the fact that she admits to being somewhat drunk when it happened really bothers me… Like he took advantage of her and she doesn’t even acknowledge that part! After three days of me silently hovering around her, she reaches her breaking point and corners me in the kitchen. I suggest we put some distance between us and Spencer, and she immediately agrees. So it’s our first visit back to my mother’s since we’ve made the move upstate! Amory is fatigued from just the ride down and is asleep when we arrive. I carry her to our bedroom and let her nap it off a little, while I tend to Stephany. After getting my princess settled with my niece in the living room, I head to the kitchen to sit with my mother as she cooks, making sure I can see my princess from where

  • In Three Years   Chapter 37: Legal Battles - Jonny

This morning I hear Amory vomiting from her bathroom since her bedroom door has been left open. She’s due to appear in court today and her anxiety is simply sweltering over. As if Stephany can sense her mother’s tension, she clings to me like a leech unless in her car seat. She won’t even allow her mother to carry her, clearly, she is still my princess even with Spencer in her life! Rich and I leave our guns in my car before we walk into the same courthouse as the last time. Amory looks pale, and she is visibly shaken as her case is called forward. We’re all directed to the plaintiff's stand as Spencer is directed to the defendant's stand. Neither one of them has looked at each other since we’ve left the lake house! When the judge walks to the bench she says, “Ms. Williams, nice to finally meet you! Please explain to me what on Earth is going on here and why this divorce case now has a paternity request attached to it”. Amory inhales sharply then says, “yes, your

The sun is beaming in my face, but I’m so cozy as the hammock swings gently in the morning breeze. Amory is still asleep in my arms while I rub her back. She sighs before she rubs her face into my chest and inhales deeply. This is like her signal she’s about to wake up but it still makes me laugh, even after three years because it’s just that cute! My phone vibrates in my pocket disturbing her, as I wedge my hand between the two of us to grab it. It’s a message from Charlene who rarely ever texts me. She’s looking for Amory and says she’s been trying to reach her since Friday. Come to think of it, I haven’t seen Amory’s phone at all this weekend! “Amory, where’s your phone?” I ask her. She shrugs before she says, “in my room probably. Why”? “Charlene has been tryna reach you”, I tell her but she just sighs lazily. “She wants an approval to do a duet theme night for karaoke this week”. “Like couples karaoke?”, she questions, and I nod at her. “I guess th

I wake up when what feels like a warm tongue is licking from my neck to my lips, and ends with a soft peck. I open my eyes as I release a moan, Amory is trying to stifle her laughter. I pull her down on top of me but she brings her finger to her lips urging me to be quiet. I finally look around the room to see we are still in the lake house living room with everyone asleep around us. Amory climbs off of me and pulls me to follow her off the sofa. We walk quietly out of the front door before she tosses my car keys to me. Obviously, she has something planned, she’s never up this early in the morning! She has me drive a short distance down the road before pulling back off of it, and onto a dirt path that leads down to the waterfront where I park. When she gets out of the car, she starts stripping down before climbing into the water in her underwear. Once she resurfaces I look at her confused, “what are you doing, mi Amor” (mi love)? “Waiting for you to come ravish m
