I stare from Quinn’s nonchalant face to Alex’s petrified face. “You ungrateful slime!” I yelled. I reached for the vase on the room’s front table and flung it at Alex’s head. He ducked, and the vase hit the wall behind him, shattering. That I missed made me even angrier.
Quinn wore a smug smirk as I staggered a few steps into the room. I shook my head. It didn’t feel right. It felt like something more than a hangover, like I’d been drugged. Still, I wanted to pounce on these two traitors, so I pressed on, getting dizzier by the step.
Quinn’s smirk grew evil as she saw me struggle to keep consciousness. She looked like a villain whose plan was falling into place perfectly. I saw it, the mischievous look in her eyes. It seemed like it had been her plan for Me to get drugged, and be brought here, so I could find her and Alex in Bed.
“What can you do about it?” She asked Me and I scoffed, unable to believe the amount of shamelessness I was seeing in Quinn.
Then ignored her, turning my attention to Alex. “I fucking trusted you!” I screamed. “How could you do this? And with my stepmother? What’s wrong with you?”
“Oh, stop being such a drama queen,” Alex said. “What if I have an interest in older women? That doesn’t mean I don't love you.”
“That’s my fucking stepmother, Alex! My dad’s wife! This is the height of immorality,” I said, shaking my head. “I can't believe you! Really!” I yelled again.
“Eve, dear,” Quinn said, “you need to stop yelling. You don’t seem well.”
I glared at her and clenched my fists, wanting to pummel the two of them until they couldn’t feel anything but pain.
Instead, I said, “Don’t pretend to care about me. You think I don’t know how much you hate me? Goddess knows, you don’t hesitate to show it. So stop pretending like you fucking care what happens to me. For all I know, you planned this whole thing so I could see you both, have a heart attack, and die.”
Quinn gasped and laughed mockingly. “I am not that creative, Evelyn. Besides, why would I want you to know Alex and I fell in love?”
I stared at her in disbelief.
“In love? You conniving snake. It's only been a month since Father slipped into a coma, and you’re claiming to be in love? With my boyfriend?”
Alex came over and rubbed my arms. “Now, calm down.”
I kept my focus on Quinn as I wrested free from Alex. “How shameless can you be? Is your love that fickle? Does it change that fast?”
“Come on,” Alex said, drawing my eyes. “It's no big deal. Hey, maybe you could even join us. What do you think?”
I glared at him. “Join…?” I landed a loud slap on his face.
“You filthy pig. You’re worse than a rogue. And you don’t think there’s anything immoral about what you’re suggesting? About what you’re doing? Sleeping with my stepmother… your future mother-in-law?”
Alex’s face contorted into a frown. “Oh, stop being such a goody two shoes.” Alex grabbed my elbows.
“Don’t be disrespectful, Eve,” Quinn said. “I’m still your father’s wife and head of this pack. And I will not tolerate it.”
“Leader of the pack? Is that so? You haven’t even done anything to find out why my father, your husband, ended up in a coma. Pfft. You’re a terrible excuse for a leader… and a mother.”
“Excuse me?” Quinn rose from the bed and approached with her eyes narrowed. “Are you undermining me?”
I shook my head. “Simply stating the bitter truth. Ever since you came into my father’s house, there’s been nothing but pain and discomfort. I wish it was you instead of my dad in that coma.”
Quinn slapped me hard across the face. “That’s for your insolence.” She slapped me again just as hard. “That’s for hitting Alex.” She slapped me once more. “And that’s for wishing me dead.”
Alex grabbed her hand. “Quinn, please. That’s enough.”
Quinn glared at him. “This young lady is a spoiled brat. She needs to be taught a lesson.” She turned back to me. “I’m in charge of this pack and also your legal guardian, and I’ve had it up to my guts with your tantrums.”
I stared at her in disbelief.
“Wake the fuck up, Eve,” Quinn yelled. “I make the rules now, and you will do as I say. Do you hear me, you worthless omega?”
I wished I had a wolf so I could shift and have it out with this crazy bitch. But maybe not having a wolf was what allowed me to remain calm, despite the fact that I’d never been hit in the face before. Either way, I kept my cool while I stared into my adulterous stepmother’s eyes. Eventually, I shook her head and said, “You disgust me,” then turned and left the room.
As the door closed behind me, tears came to my eyes. What a betrayal. As if it weren’t bad enough that Alex cheated on me, he chose to do it with my stepmother. Why? Why me, of all people?
I aimlessly headed back to the room I came from, still staggering to get my things. I opened the door and then stopped, wondering why she was bothering to go back there. Everything was a blur, and I wasn’t sure if it was because of my welling eyes or the drug I’d obviously been given. But then I felt a presence behind me.
“Who are you?” I asked, as I tried to shake off the wave of discomfort and dizziness that had suddenly hit me. I wiped my eyes. “You!” I exclaimed, looking at the omega waiter from the bar. “What are you doing here?” Nerves crept up my spine as I stared at the man who had given me the drink—the drink that had obviously been drugged.“Oh, come on Princess.” He stepped forward, forcing me to go back up into the room. “You know why I’m here,” he said with a wicked grin. “And your body wants it. I know it does.” I wanted to puke, “Please let me go home. I need to go home to my dad.” “I’ll let you go home”—he started to unclasp his belt—“as soon as you give me what I want.” I backed up another step. “It will be over soon, Princess. I promise.” “Why?” I asked, still seeing him through blurry eyes and wondering if there was any way I could escape him. He gave me a perverted smile, then wagged his brows. “Well, your body is a nice prize on its own, but there are better reasons.” I didn
Evelyn POVI struggled to keep my head straight, as I fought for consciousness. I heard footsteps and I knew that the weird omega was back. I staggered up, reaching for a weapon. My hand found the neck of an empty wine bottle. I swung it in an arc and hit him across the head. He went down with a thud, and I ran out of the room and directly into a man. “I'm sorry,” I mumbled as I tried to scoot past him.“Miss, are you alright?” he asked.I turned and saw the omega coming after me. “Help me,” I said, with panicked eyes and a voice filled with urgency. The stranger saw the omega, grabbed my wrist, then dragged me into his room. In one smooth motion, he slammed the door shut, locked it, then spun me into his chestWith fear of the omega still overwhelming me, I buried my face in his chest and whimpered weakly, latching onto his trousers to steady myself.“He’s gone,” said the stranger.I raised my head from his bare chest and peered at him. Despite my blurry vision, I could tell he was
I stirred in my sleep, my body sore from the business of last night. Suddenly my eyes shot open, when I heard my bedroom door open, and in walked Quinn. I glared at her and shut my eyes. “Sign of bad luck. I open my eyes and I see the adulterous stepmother of mine.” I groaned sarcastically.Quinn glared at me and she opened my curtain window. “You should get up. It's time for breakfast.” I peered at her. “You never care if I eat or not. Is this your guilty consciousness getting to you?”Quinn studied me, and I squirmed uncomfortably under her intense gaze. “Did you have sex last night?” Quinn asked.I shot her a surprised look.“Hmm. Seems like you did.” Quinn said and I looked away.“I have no idea what you are talking about. Get out of my room.” I said and Quinn walked towards me.She didn’t look convinced. “We’ll talk about this later,” she said. “For now, you have a pack function to attend, so come down for breakfast,” Quinn said and walked out of the bedroom. I stared at my cl
The next morning, Sophia knocked on my door. “Madam Evelyn. It's morning. Please wake up.” I turned in my bed, then rose and stretched with a smile. It was my engagement day and Quinn and Alex were in for a surprise. I was almost giddy with the prospect, especially since I’v done my own investigation and learned that the omega waiter who’d drugged me five nights ago had done it under the orders of one of the ‘higher ups’. It turned out that higher up had been Quinn.I smirked in bliss as my mind went back to the message I had received from the anonymous man who’d agreed to take part in my engagement today. We had agreed on his entrance to the engagement party and how much I would pay him for his appearance, while I figured out the best way to get rid of my adulterous stepmom and treacherous ex-fiancée.Sophia pulled me from my thoughts, saying, “Your breakfast is served downstairs.” I looked at her.“Why downstairs? I do not want to have breakfast while seeing their faces. I made s
The announcement of the aide takes the entire floor with ear splitting silence as nobody says anything for a while because the impact of his words was like a bomb dropping dead center in front of us but then the silence was abruptly broken by my stepmother. "I don't believe that you are indeed nothing more than a shameless whore. How could you sleep with another man and even have the audacity to bring him here as your fiancé?"Her spiteful eyes were glaring at me and she stabbed an accusing finger in my face. For a moment I was too taken away by shock to even respond to what my stepmother said. I just stared at her with bulging eyes because I was struggling to believe that of all people that could put themselves on a moral platform to judge me she thought that she was one of them especially since I had caught her entangled in bed with the same man that she was supposedly defending right now.Alex also joined in with the accusations."After everything I've done for you, this is how
Kian wrapped his hand over my shoulder, drawing me to him protectively. He glared at Alex, whose hand hung in the air until he shamefully brought it back to his side.Kian looked at me tenderly and, even though his fingers didn't move, it felt as though he were consoling me. Then he lifted his head and swept his eyes across the crowd. People stepped back under the intensity of his gaze. He cleared his throat and spoke. "As I’m sure you’ve all discerned by now, Evelyn and I have been intimate together. I believe, according to your laws, that means we must spend our lives together as well."Blood rushed to my face. It was one thing for my cruel stepmother and stupid ex to insinuate that we’d slept together. It was another for him to loudly declare it. He continued in an authoritative voice that left no doubt about his status as an alpha wolf. "I understand this may come as a surprise to those who expected her to marry someone else, and anyone who is not in support of our union is free
Realizing he tried to call me, I blinked rapidly as his broad palm brushed over my cheeks. "I'm sorry. I just got a little distracted." I swiped a glass from a passing waiter and went to gulp it down in its entirety. Before I could finish, Kian held the glass gently, then finished the second half of it himself. When he was done, he looked at me with a smile. "I hope you don't mind, but I’d actually like to get to know you when you're sober."The blood rushed back to my cheeks again, turning my face into a huge cherry. I did what I could to calm myself and downplay the effect his wickedly handsome smile had on me. "There isn't much to know about me,” I said. “At least not anything interesting." I was still struggling to get that stubborn piece of stray hair from falling in my face when he tenderly and helpfully tucked it behind my ear, creating an electrifying feeling there. All the while, he didn’t break his gaze. "Hmmm… I honestly doubt that." ###Alex POVAs the party marched on a
Evelyn's POV“Why does Alex keep showing up?” Kian asked, his muscles tightening. However, he remembered I was there and held himself back, keeping a tight smile on his face."Of everything I was expecting,” Kian said to Alex, “I didn't think you’d come to see me so soon, Brother," He turned around, blocking me from Alex’s view. He crossed his arms, but even from my vantage point, I could see a smile remained on his face even while his eyes boiled like lava.Alex returned the look with the same maliciousness, if not more. "I need to talk to Evelyn," he said sharply."You mean my fiancée?" Kian shot back with his eyebrow cocked. The outlines of Alex’s veins shone at his temples. I came out from behind Kain and stood between the two brothers, causing Alex to shift back a bit. "Alex, I have to help my fiancé settle in right now. Whatever you have to discuss with me will have to wait. If it's so important—"“Fine,” Alex said begrudgingly, looking constipated.Kian shuffled keys until he
Evelyn's pov I couldn't believe that he actually recognized me and I wondered if he was just messing with me but when he said my name, I knew that he wasn't and I wasn't sure how to act around him. I had been holding myself together for when I would eventually leave the hospital then I could process my feelings but now after being separated for 5 years we had collided again, our lives in tangling even though I had done everything possible even traveling across the world to avoid it. “You look very well. I guess the choice that you made to leave wasn't a bad one since you appear to be doing very good for yourself,” the bitterness in his voice was clear and evident then I remembered that he didn't have any right to be angry or at least not at me. I planted my hands on my hips and told him that I couldn't stay with him anymore if he would never tell me the truth. All I asked well was some honesty, for him to respect me enough to tell me what was really going on in his mind and that
Evelyn's pov Even though I knew that the park was just close by and we wouldn't have to go there, there was still a dreadful feeling in my chest, of running into Kian after so long. I never really gave him any explanation as to why I left, he must have returned back to the mansion confused and conflicted I don't know if the letter that I wrote for him would have been enough to satisfy his curiosity but I knew I couldn't stay and say those words, if not I would have never had the courage to leave at all. A tap on my shoulder brought me back to the present and I allowed a small smile on my face as I looked at my stepbrother, Kelvin, I had never imagined that he would become such a pillar in my life, somebody who was once a spineless puppets for his mother had matured into a responsible man and he had girls chasing him left and right but he told me that he was interested in only one person and one day he will confess his feelings to her. I had begged him to tell me who this per
Evelyn's pov The day I made a decision to leave the pack, to leave him, I knew that I could never return back or at least I never intended to and now 5 months had passed it felt like 5 years. Everyday my heart was aching for me to return back but I knew that he would have some kind of convenient explanation or he would deny being part of the council at all but it made so much sense that I was not going to allow him to deceive me anymore. It was not an easy decision to come to and I had no idea where I would even go, all I knew was that I had to leave, now was when I got an unexpected call from my stepbrother Kelvin. He had never reached out to me before, so I was surprised to get his call that night. I contemplated answering it or not, then I decided not to because whatever he had to say, I doubted that I had the Patience to even listen to him but just as I was about to cut the call, my fingers slid in the wrong direction and I answered it by accident. His concerned voice came thro
Kian's pov “It's been a pleasure doing business with you,” I said with a confident smile as my fingers gripped that of my newest associate. The contract that I had just closed down would end both of us millions and that satisfaction was almost enough to make up for the 3 days that I had spent away from my mate.Well almost…I had already booked a flight and I would be pulling her into my arms once again in less than 3 hours or so, so with an expectant smile on my face, I checked out of the hotel that I had been staying for the past 3 days and made my way to the airport, my eyes were glued shut throughout the entire flight and everything seem to blur until finally, I was driving into my mansion through the gates. A maid came to take my briefcase and I easily handed it to her asking her if she knew where my mate was. Her face suddenly paled up, and then she started shaking a little bit, her lips obviously trembling as she visibly battled to get out her words saying that she had no ide
Evelyn's pov The search for my father's killer went on for months, it started with days and then it dragged out into weeks until months passed and yet there was nothing. It was almost as though they appeared out of thin air and after committing that heinous act disappeared like dust in the wind. I mourned for my father until my heart wanted to bleed right out of my chest. My only consolation was my husband who was there for me during this difficult time, promising me with all of his heart that he would find my father's killer but despite all of his efforts, nothing came out of it. One dead end was just followed up by another one. Eventually, after catching him looking through the little evidence that could be found at night barely allowing himself to sleep I had to call it quits but he was stubborn about letting go insisting that if he just kept looking he would find the killers. On one of such night, I caught him in his office after waking up in bed and finding that his ow
Evelyn's POV When I woke up the next morning, the first thing I got was an urgent text from my father's personal investigator urging me to reach out to him as soon as possible. My heart quickly found its way to my throat. I had a nightmare and it involved my father and now this? Calming my racing heart, I took a few breaths and then made the call and on the second ring, he picked up and his voice was low. It was always sort of monotone but now there was something beneath it that made a pit my stomach grow even deeper. “Is something wrong?” I couldn't help asking and his voice was a few decibels as he dropped the bombshell that left the room spinning around for several seconds until I spoke again in a response. “You must be joking…” I said, my voice coated in denial. “You can't be serious, please tell me that you are joking right now…” “I'm sorry you have my condolences…” I wasn't able to listen to his next words because the phone fell from my trembling hands, and if I h
John's pov “This has to be a joke…” I said for the millionth time throwing a folder back to my desk. My personal private investigator looked at me with a source of resignation on his face and he told me that he was confident of his findings.I looked at the folder again like a bomb that was about to explode cautiously touching it and I opened it up. The first thing I saw randomly was a picture of a boy and standing next to him was the familiar feminine face that made me close the folder once again, my chest burning up. It couldn't be, it just couldn't be… “Alpha John…” My private investigator was about to speak but I held up my hand. I needed a moment to digest this so I dismissed him, leaving me alone with all the evidence that brings back memories from the past, memories that I thought I had long buried. And along with it came intense guilt, just as I was battling with this, Quinn appeared in my office with a cheap smile on her face but right now I needed to be alone. When she g
Evelyn's POV I looked down at my wristwatch for the millions of times and a heavy breath left me as I tilted my head up and groaned afterwards. I was hoping that this flight would make me get to my father faster but instead it ended up getting delayed because of an incoming storm. So I was left with no other choice, I had to Lodge into a hotel for the night, I would be coming back the next day to quickly catch my flight it was already too late to consider going on the road anymore and I would still end up wasting the same amount of time anyways, so I might as well just get on a flight. At least, I wouldn't have to worry about traffic or anything. When I was settled with my baggage I lay down on the bed with my shoes. I feel like a bigger traitor than those two shameless people for not telling him this. How was he even going to react when he knew that I had been keeping these secrets for so long now? I squeezed my fingers together until it pulled into a fist and I was agitated just
John's pov My wife stayed in the basement longer than I expected. I thought that after a couple of hours, she would come out but it was only the next morning that I was able to convince her. I brought some food for her, an omelet and some bacon because she had also refused to eat anything from the previous day. Then, standing at the entrance of the basement, I knocked to get her attention. “Quinn, don't you think that this is unnecessary?” I asked her “Both of us are adults so we can discuss this as adults..” “I don't want to discuss anything…” she cried out. “Just tell me that I can go, that you don't need me anymore, and have my bags packed for me so that I can leave immediately. I have dedicated so many years of my precious life to you and you won't even trust me I don't want to talk about it,” I looked down at the plate of food. “You haven't had anything to eat since last night. Are you really planning to starve yourself to death?” There was silence for a while before sh
