Valeria POV
I sat beside Adrain, who was drinking. It was human alcohol, so it won’t make him drunk, but he has drank a lot, staring at my mate in pure hate. Everything Ruby said is so true. Since my mate arrived, the ball has been a bit awkward. They all avoided going towards my mate pack, but I could see some of the pack members going towards other packs; I guess they found their mate. I looked at Adrian and sighed; he actually looked so angry, sucking in his teeth and folding his palm in a punch, but my mate, on the other hand, was sitting calmly, sipping his drink.
I guess now I know why he holds that title. He is calm; you can’t tell what is going on in his head. My mate is like a gentle smoke—a smoke that can cause a raging fire if not quenched. But Adrain, on the other hand, is allowing his emotions to get to him. Something I have learned while growing up in the pack is that people can use your anger against you; they can get into your head while being angry. It’s good to know how to control your temper.
“Now, it is time for the Alpha and Luna dance,” the announcer said softly through the microphone. I watched Adrian, Alpha, and Luna dance. I have no idea about that. What am I supposed to do in this situation? Adrain stood up, and he took my hand, talking me with him, and I tried my best to walk gracefully beside him. We stood by a podium, and I looked at the other alpha and luna coming to the centre of the hall. A soft music burst through the speakers, and they all got into their dancing positions. I smiled looking at them; they all looked so happy and in love. To them, only their mates matter; no other person is as exciting or beautiful as their mate.
Adrain and I continued standing. I had no clue what I was supposed to expect, but suddenly the hall was quiet. I looked around confused, but I saw my mate walking towards us. Why was this a surprise? He is just walking towards us. My mate stood below us, and he smiled softly.
“Can I have a dance, Milady?” he asked politely. People around us gaps, and I was so confused.
“No, she can’t,” Adrain snapped, holding my waist possesively. My mate smiled, nodding his head.
“Have you forgotten the rule you made? An alpha can choose to dance with your mate, and any Luna can also choose to dance with you,” he said. Adrain growled.
“Nobody has ever done that, though,” he snapped.
“Exactly, starting with me,” he said, looking at me. Then he stretched his hand towards me. My heart started beating fast as everyone waited for me to do something. If I accept his hand, Adrain hates me forever, but I get to dance with my mate, even if it’s only once. If I don’t accept it, Adrain would be happy and probably lean forward in taking me as his mate and also marking me, but it means I won’t ever get to have this moment with my mate, so I made my decision.
“I would love to dance with you,” I said, taking his warm hand. Everyone gasped in shock, but I was more focused on my mate’s warm smile. He carried me up from the podium softly, placing me on my feet, and the way he stared at me, I don’t care, it was worth it. He led me to the middle of the hall, and the lights went out, shining on us. I swallowed nervously. I don’t know how to dance.
“I am guessing you don’t know how to dance,” he said, chuckling. My cheeks hit up in embarrassment.
“I got you,” he said, smiling. I looked at him; no one had ever told me such words. I was a bit emotional. He bent down and unbuckled my heels, then I rested my hand on his muscular shoulders, removing my feet from the heels. He smiled, standing up.
“Now, trust me,” he whispered, carrying me up, and my feet were on his, my arms around his neck, and his around my waist, and slowly he moved. I might be standing on his feet, but I wasn’t yet up to his height. He stared down at me, his beautiful cobalt eyes glowing brightly.
“So, what is your name, pretty flower?” he asked. I blushed hard at the name.
“Valeria,” I said. He smiled.
“Valeria,” he said, and I don’t think I would ever love someone calling my name. My body was tingling, my stomach buzzing with joy, and my wolf was jumping around in excitement. This was an unexplainable moment, and I was determined to make the best of it.
“So, what pack are you from?” he asked softly.
“Down south pack,” I answered, staring into his cobalt eyes. His lips formed into an o, and I can’t explain how adorable he looks; he looks innocent for his reputation.
“I didn’t know Alpha Julius had another daughter,” he said, not directly at me. I smiled. I bet no one here knows he has two daughters. My father has never claimed me as his until he wanted to sell me off to Alpha Adrain, but I learned to ignore it. There was no use calling me his daughter if he wouldn’t treat me as one. My mate and I continued dancing. I got the hold of the rhythm and the soft jazz playing, and I laid my head on his chest, taking in his scent.
This was the most magical moment of my life. I forgot who I was, what I am, where I am, and the title I hold. I was just a girl with her soulmate. But as they say, all good things come to an end; the music slows down, reaching the ending; my mate draws back, carrying me up and twirling me in the air; and I did my best to hold in my giggle. He dropped me on the floor, following the beat, and the music came to an end. Also, the lights shine in their full glory.
I looked at the crowd nervously, but I was left surprised as they burst into loud claps and cheers. I chuckled, looking at my mate, who in turn smiled at me and picked up my heels, wearing them for me.
“That was an amazing dance,” he said, taking my hand and placing a kiss on my palm like a true gentleman. I shivered at the touch of his lips on my hand. I can’t believe how crazy the mate bond is; the electrics and shivers were over the board, like it wanted us to mate right here. The hall suddenly went silent, and I looked around, confused.
My smile dropped greatly as Adrain walked towards us. He wasn’t happy, obviously; his eyes raged, and he was controlling his wolf from coming out. Fear washed over me as I stayed rooted to my spot. Adrain shared no words with my mate or me; instead, he took my hand, dragging me away with him. I struggled to keep my pace with him, my gown entering in between my legs. I bit my lips in pain as my legs tripped continuously on my heels, hurting my ankle.
“The ball has come to an end; please vacate the hall.” That was the last thing I heard before Adrain dragged me out of the hall. I couldn’t even look back to look at my mate once; just like that, my magical night came to an obvious end.
Valeria POVI looked outside the window, feeling pain all over my body. How long has it been? I can’t say, but right now I wish my life would come to an end. I thought I had it bad before, but obviously I didn’t. I had freedom; people avoided me, but I wore good clothes and ate what I wanted to. I was happy even with how I lived. But now it’s the opposite: I am isolated, bruised, starved, and locked up in this cold, tight room with just one tiny window allowing me to see the outside world.I thought Adrain was a bit different; he wasn’t like my parents; he gave me freedom and allowed me to eat as I wanted; although his pack avoided me, they didn’t talk badly about me or whisper harsh words as I passed. He was kind to me the night of the ball; he looked at me like he would look at any other person, but I didn’t know he was a monster. That night, I got to see the devil's side of him; he was burning with rage.I shivered, remembering how his wolf took control over his body, running at me
Valeria POVI heard the doors open as I lay down on the floor, my back turned against the door. The guards walked to me, and they gently removed the chains from me. It has been three days since I went to see Adrain and Ruby, and I was taken back here to my cell. I have been staring at the wall ever since, expecting my death. The guards helped me up, and I was super confused. Were they not the ones who pulled me harshly a few days ago? Dragging me on the floor gave me more injuries, so what changed?“That is enough; leave,” I heard the familiar voice. I looked up, and Collin stood in front of me. He looked at me disgusted, and I looked at him right back.“We have an unexpected visitor. Go to your room, freshen up, and come down for dinner. Also, make sure to hide your bruises. Alpha’s order,” he said, turning around and leaving. I stood there for a minute, a visitor? Surely this visitor must be an important one for Adrain to want me to meet them; he did introduce me as his mate during
Valeria POVI sat in front of a mirror, looking into my soulless blue eyes. My lips twisted into a frown as I could hear the sound of someone’s heart beating loudly. The sound was obviously very annoying and uncomfortable. The sound was also very painful to hear; it seems the person is in pain as the heart trumps loudly.“It’s you, you dummy!” my subconscious yelled at me. Me? Am I the owner of the thumping heart? I slowly placed my hand on my chest, and I could hear my heart beating loudly. Sadness was over me in great waves as I struggled to keep my tears in. The door opened, and my mother came in.Her lips were stretched in a wide smile, and a bright red lipstick sitting pretty on her round lips. Her eyes glowed; they glittered. Today was the happiest day of her life. She was getting rid of the one thing she hated, the one thing she hated looking at, and the one thing that almost got her killed. That thing is me.“Oh, Alpha Adrain is almost here,” she shrieked, almost jumping on he
Valeria POVI sat by the window of the car, looking outside into the endless woods. The dinner ended with sour faces and two smiling faces. Mother and father were happy to have gotten rid of me, while the rest were not happy with their Alpha’s choice, but they couldn’t argue with him. Ruby was disappointed, throwing a fit of temper and storming out of the dining room. Father was, of course, embarrassed; she embarrassed his guests and him, and he had apologised to the young Alpha by bowing his head. His cheeks were a bright red, and it was a funny scene. This is not the first time she embarrassed him, but he never said a word, and this he couldn’t overlook.“Are you sure of this, Adrain?” a deep voice across me asked. I didn’t turn my head. I don’t know who this man is, but he seems to talk to the Alpha like he is his brother, and from his aura, he is probably the beta of the pack.“No,” he replied.“So, why did you choose her? She looks timid; our pack would not survive a week in her
Valeria POVI sat down on the swing, looking at how the pups played around. I smiled at their little screams and squeal; they all seemed so innocent and full of life. In my former pack, going to the pups’ school or staying in the garden was my favourite thing to do. Although the parents make sure I’m not near their pups, but I just love watching the innocence of pups; I never got to play like them, get my clothes dirty, or play tag. I never had any friends, so watching pups being themselves was pleasing to me.“Hey!” I heard a high-pitched voice breaking me out of my thoughts. I looked down, and a pup, not more than 3 years old, was looking up at me.“Me?” I asked, looking around. No pup has ever talked to me or approached me; they avoided me like plague, so this was new.“Are you new here?” the little boy asked. I smiled at him, nodding my head. His lips formed into an o shape, and his long, curly hair moved around with the breeze. He is such an adorable, chucky pup with blue eyes an
Valeria POVI sat in front of the mirror, my eyes lifeless. It’s been two weeks, and the pack has been hectic. The omegas have been working extra hours getting everything ready. It’s obvious the mood in the pack changed; they were all bubbly, with girls chirping away about meeting handsome men from different packs and boys all talking about their haircuts to look their best for the night. Everyone was glad; it was too obvious to miss. Then what have I been doing for the past 2 weeks? Soil my pillow, punch the wall angrily, dress up, and try out dresses—dresses I have no say in. Jessica doesn’t like this dress; change it. Jessica doesn’t like the colour; change it. Jessica doesn’t like the design; change it.I wore so many dresses; she just wasn’t satisfied, and I had no say whatsoever. I kept silent and kept doing as she said. I always wondered how my first ball would look one day when my parents finally allowed me to go, but now I am suddenly not excited about the ball. Realising I m
Valeria POV“Mate!” my wolf yelled loudly, almost blocking my ears, but I didn’t mind that. I was just speechless. I never thought a day would come when I would clock eyes with my mate, feeling the euphoric power of the mate bond. But that only lasted for a split second as he stared at Adrain’s hand wrapped around my waist. My heart fell faster than it has ever fallen. I just met my mate, but I am in the arms of another wolf; he would never want me. He walked close and looked directly at Adrain, who was getting angrier by the second.“Alpha Adrain,” his deep voice booms with so much authority, and my heart flutters, my stomach bursting with joy I have never experienced. I never thought I would hear a voice more authoritative and deep after hearing Adrain’s voice. Guess I was wrong.“Alpha Damien,” he replied, using the exact same tone my mate used, if not harsher. My mate smiled, his full plump lips shaping into a thin line. I almost smiled at how handsome he was.“Lovely party you ha
