The two were introduced as Amadeo and Augustus Brooks. They were twins who were so identical to each other that there is no way to tell who the other was.
Amadeo was Dark’s gamma. And Augustus as the delta. They were blonde twins, with a signature charming smile. And if there’s one thing that she noticed among Dark’s pack, was that they’re all so informal to each other.
This only means they shared a closer bond than usual.
“Why are you blaming me? I am his beta so I should support him,” Theo replied at Amadeo’s rants. Rants that had started since they met and continued until now that they were dining together.
The night descended fast so they stayed in an inn along the way. Although it wasn’t as good as she expected, this might be better than spending the night in the wilderness.
“That’s exactly why!” Augustus chimed in, pointing at Theo with a drumstick on his hand. “You are his beta so you should stop him when he’s doing some irrational decisions!”
“It is my duty as a beta to support the alpha with complete loyalty! You cannot question my loyalty to him!”
“A blind loyalty! So are you saying just because you’re his beta, you’re going to support him even he says he’s jumping on his own death?!”
“If that’s our alpha’s decision, then-”
“ENOUGH!”
Everyone was startled when Dark slammed his hand on the table, completely shuttering it into half. All platters of foods scattered on the floor. What a waste…
Perhaps, he’s really mad.
“Do I look foolish to all of you?!” he scoffed, looking at his guilty pack. All of them were looking everywhere, refusing to meet his dangerous gaze. “And what?! I made a foolish decision for taking what should have been mine?!”
Augustus whistled in nervousness, sweat falling down his forehead. Feeling Dark’s gaze on him, he looked at Caia with pitiful doe eyes, as if pleading for help.
“What?” she mouthed, also terrified of Dark. What does he expect her to do? Can she even calm the furious alpha?
“A-Alpha!” Amadeo stood up, braving himself to break the impending storm of the alpha’s rage. His face was pale from nervousness. “I think Lady Herald was hurt!”
“What?!” Dark’s expression turned even darker than before. on the other hand, Caia was so flustered when he suddenly held her on her arms, holding her hands to check for injuries.
He even scanned her whole body with his scrutinizing gaze that her body burned in embarrassment. His gaze was too fierce that she felt naked under his eyes!
“Fuck.” Caia was surprised when she heard him cursing under his breath. He sounded angrier at himself.
Seeing his hurt and guilty expression tugged some strings in her heart that she can’t believe what she was seeing.
“Huh?” she muttered, looking at where his eyes were. And she was surprised to see a tiny scratch on her feet. Perhaps, it was caused by the broken pieces of plates when Dark slammed the table.
“D-Don’t worry. It’s just a small- Ahh! H-Hey?! Why are you-”
“Quit it, little lady. I won’t let you down unless that wound is treated.” His tone carried a threat, as if delivering a final verdict that no one can change but him.
But what this fuss is all about? It’s just a tiny scratch. Compared to what she’s gone through, this is really nothing but a pin dropped in an ocean.
Left with no choice, she can only let Dark carry her as they left the dining hall. Luckily, there were no other guest aside from them. Or else, this embarrassing commotion would have been seen by everyone.
As they walked away, those three men silently thanked her for saving their lives. Amadeo and Augustus were mouthing her their utmost gratefulness with some charming silly smile. And even Theodore gave her a gentlemen bow as he placed his palm on his left chest.
She was bewildered.
Does angering Dark really that bad?! For them to act this way…
“Oh,” Dark paused, and despite not turning back to look at his men, it’s as if he knew they were relieved they got away from his fury. Yet, he wasn’t really planning to let them off the hook. “I noticed your skills aren’t improving these days. So, in these days we were traveling, don’t skip training. Not even for a single day.”
“What?! But we can’t sleep and even eat if we do our training, alpha!” Amadeo complained, like a child sulking.
“That’s right, Dark! We’ll die if we-”
“Then go die.” Dark cut him off, his gaze was as sharp as a sword.
The two continued to complain while only Theodore accepted his verdict with no protest.
“We will do as you order, my alpha-”“SHUT UP! DIE ON YOUR OWN IF YOU WANT!” the twins cried, falling on their knees in frustration.
Caia almost cannot believe what she was witnessing. She even thought that Dark was being severe in his punishment. Yet, when she glanced at him, she caught the silly grin playing on his lips.
Is he… toying with them?!
He?! The dark alpha?! He actually knows how to joke around too?!
What about those countless rumors she heard that he’s evil. And he killed everyone he’s mad at. That he’s even walking on the pile of bodies he killed and-
“Close your mouth, my Caia. You might drool.”
God! That’s embarrassing!
Quickly, Caia buried her face on his chest to avoid seeing his teasing look anymore. However, she noticed him flinch. His deep chuckle alongside his beating heart was heard on the same exact spot her face was in.
Why was it beating loud and fast?
Was it because of her?
Taking a peek on his face, her cheeks burned when she saw the smile on his lips. It was strange. How can a normal smile look so beautiful and adorable in this rough man’s face?
Since she met him, he always looks as if he’s mad at everything. Or that he’s preparing for a dreadful war.
Yet, why does he look so dashing while smiling? How can a single smile completely turned him into a captivatingly handsome man?
Caia hides her shy face on his body, clutching on his armor. How she wished this armor wasn’t getting in the way.
Because she wondered… how would it feel if she’s touching his body instead of this annoying metal?
“Is this your room?” she asked in a tiny voice, scanning the surroundings. It was small and cramped. Even the furniture seemed old already. “Yours, too,” he replied, catching her off guard. Does this mean they’re going to share one room?! Of course, they’re going to marry sooner or later. And this kind of thing is bound to happen. But still… the thought of sharing one room with him is still… Seeing her shy reaction, Dark couldn’t help but grin inwardly. This noble lady really does not fail to amuse him. “There’s only two rooms in this small inn,” he explained, carefully placing her down the bed. Then he kneeled before her, pulling her dress up to check her wound. This made her flinch in surprised, flustered at his sudden actions with no warning. “But if you don’t want me here, I can go sleep with my pack if that will make you comfortable-” “NO!” she immediately replied, not wanting him to misunderstand
Dark firmly closed his eyes, attempting to sleep once more. But f*ck it! How can he even sleep when Caia was squeezing her small body into him, fully unaware of what her reckless actions might cause. And now, she even threw her arm and leg on him, clinging into him in her sleep. His body tensed. Her knee was directly pressing against a forbidden part of his body. That’s clearly a foul! His ears were bright red as he groaned, conflicted in his mind how he can calm down the awaken monster hidden behind his pants. Maybe he should put an armor in that part too. But… “How did I even end up in a situation like this?” he wondered, sighing in complete defeat. Hours ago… Dark finally lost his control and gave in into this oblivious girl’s temptation. Although he knew she didn’t mean it, she still has to suffer the consequences, right? His longing lips claimed her inviting reddish mouth, tasting the sweetness th
“What?! You’re scared of thunders?” Augustus looked troubled for some reason after Caia told him that the reason why Dark slept with her was due to the storm. Last night, it was raging a storm along with loud thunders and lightning. She was trembling so hard that time but Dark assured her that he won’t leave her. He even hugged her and patted her back until she fell asleep. Remember what happened before that, her cheeks burned like fire. Dark kissed her last night too! “You should eat more. You’re so skinny.” Dark placed a chunk of meat in her plate… for the tenth time. Now, her plate was already so full. It was a mountain of food already that some meat balls even rolled down off her plate. To her surprise, Dark saw it and replaced it with a new one again. “Eat,” he told her, staring at her intently. Is he planning to watch her unless she eat everything he placed on her plate? “O-Oh. Thank you,” she sa
“You useless daughter! You needed to be tamed!” “You’re a bad daughter! Punishment is the only thing that will make you obey!” “Useless wench! How dare you anger me!” Caia firmly closed her eyes. Her body was a statue as she held her breath. She angered Dark and of course, she must be punished. She deserved it. She waited for his hand slapping her hard across her face. Or a whip striking her flesh. However, instead, she was touched by a gentle caress in her cheek, as Dark’s other hand supported her back. He’s kissing her! Opening her eyes in surprise, their eyes met for a brief of moment. His gaze squinted. Although a fire seemed to be ignited in those seducing eyes. Dark kissed her harder. It was rough and forceful. And he went deeper and deeper, making his tongue swirl inside her mouth. Caia flinched with this too daring move, her eyes quivering while her heart rammed against the wall of
“S-Sorry…” Caia’s voice was small and weak. However, it was evident in her expression how apologetic she was. Dark covered his eyes and turned his back, unable to endure seeing her like this anymore. “It’s not really your fault.” It’s that bastard’s fault! Theodore Marwick! “N-No! It’s really my fault. I shouldn’t have… have touched him…” Eyes filled with fiery emotions, Dark turned around and met her eyes. He seemed troubled. Almost in pain as he stared at her. Even the door of the carriage he’s gripping seemed like it sill break any second from now. “Do you… really want to touch it that much?” he asked, looking at her side. Yet, his face was red and his ears were even redder! Caia’s eyes widened in downgrading embarrassment! This is too much! What does he even think her of?! “What?!” she gasped, unable to defend herself due to due to shock. He even continued, “If you’re really that curiou
Unlike the beauty she saw upon entering the Dorumn Estate, the palace was more in a dire condition that she expected. She once heard that this was the fallen kingdom’s old imperial palace. It had been three decades since then. However, she was in disbelief with the condition this palace was left with. “Did it disappoint you?” she heard Dark asking from behind. “I…I…” she looked at him and her cheeks flushed with guilt. Seeing this, he chuckled as he scanned the poorly lit interior. “I should ask forgiveness for the poor place. But there were no one to properly manage the mansion. Besides, most of my people are all knight. As you can see.” Caia looked at the servants who was bowing before them. There were less than ten of them. Two for the kitchen. Two who manages chores outside the palace. One accountant. One manager. And three maids. No wonder this place seemed haunted. With just these small number of people to take care of it, they won’t be enough to manage it! Caia sighe
“You, useless slave! When will you stop disobeying me?!” The bloody silver chain hits her wounded flesh, repeatedly mutilating her worn out body. Caia thought she’ll be numb to this pain already. However, despite this regular punishment, she still can’t help but whimper in pain every time the metal whip hits her deep to her bones. But this is only happening because it’s her fault. She isn’t a good daughter to her parents that’s why her father is punishing her like this. But… what exactly did she do wrong? She can’t seem to remember- “This is why even a rogue man like him is still refusing to marry you despite being engaged for seven years! Because you are…” the whip landed on her lower back, making her arch her body due to pain. “Disobedient!” Then, to her legs.“Useless!” Her bottom.“Bitch with no wolf!”Caia looked at her father, and she flinches when the whip slashed at her face. Immediately, her cheek burned as she felt warm liquid
“I am here to claim my bride,” Darkus Loui Dark declared, his words brimming with threat and danger. “Who dares to stand in my way?!” Everyone in the Herald estate stepped back, gulping in anxiety. Even the bravest of their knights cowered in fear in the presence of the renowned blood-lust alpha. “B-But Alpha Dark… this is a c-crime!” the head of the servants retorted, using all his ounce of bravery left to defend his master’s estate. This made Dark admire him for his loyalty. However, he didn’t like the meaning of his words. Approaching him with heavy steps, the servant braced himself for the incoming danger before him. He closed his eyes, holding his breath as he awaits his death. However, that didn’t come as he expected. “Is it a crime to take what should have been mine?” although those words were uttered in a deep calm tone, everyone shook in fear of his impending anger. “B-But that’s-” the servant stuttered,

The Herald Family was one of the most powerful noble families in the Darkenshire Empire after the fall of the Dorumn Kingdom 29 years ago. They were a clan of healers who participated in the great war between King Ruan Dark and the prince of that kingdom. With their contribution, they rise into fame and power. And amidst their glory was the rumored beloved daughter of the family, Caia Lilith Herald. They said, she was the epitome of ethereal beauty. The noblest lady after Princess Harieth. She was so loved and treasured by the Herald Family that she wasn’t allowed to step out of their estate in fear of her being hurt. They were afraid to lose her. Thus, when an imperial decree was sent to propose a marriage between her and the rumored ruthless prince, everyone in the family was heart-broken. They refuse to marry her off to that blood-lust prince. Caia gulped for the nth time that Dark lost count of. Because she kn
