"You," he starts and puts his hands down to look at me. He looks wild and angry, "Are the bane of my existence. Ever since you came back, my life has been miserable, like some put a curse on me. You make me feel fucking miserable. I can’t wait to get the fuck away from you.”

The absolute honesty in which he said all that is harrowing. It makes my stomach drop.

“I make you more miserable than Damon?” I ask, because that seems like a reach. Or maybe I’m even worse than I thought.

“Yes. A lot more,” he responds, very strongly and quickly. No need to even think about it.

That makes me stop and reconsider everything. If I make him more miserable than someone who’s been his sworn enemy since he was born, I should just leave this poor man alone and
