6. Thinking about her

 Jake walked out of the bathroom after he had showered and looked around the room nanny Therese had shown him to spend the night, that was after he had explained how and why Drew was comfortable with sleeping in one of the cars out.

She had mentioned that it was her granddaughter's room. Looking around the room it was painted purple and black mainly. The bed had no lamp table besides either side of it, just a standing lamp on the left, the bed could have two persons sleep on it. It's sheets were cream coloured, with peach pillows.

He went towards the bed and sat on it, took off his shoes, his eyes wandered around again and he noticed a mirror table and a chair in front of it, some books on the left part of the table, and some lotions on the right,all neatly arranged; it's owner might have used them recently, because the room smelt familiar. He felt like she was right there in the room, he took out his phone and dialed Drew.

"Sir?"

"Did you do it?"

"Yes. No. I mean I'm working on it sir." Drew said."I already got her general information, if you want I could stop  my progress on detailing it sir."

"I want it detailed." Jake said rubbing his forehead. He cut the call, laid on the bed facing the ceiling.

He closed his eyes to sleep, and he saw her face, her oval face, her lips; how they were partially open in her drunken state as she muttered those words to him, he opened his eyes. Sitting up on the bed, he ran a hand through his hair.

   

He had to find out who she was, and why he couldn't get his thoughts off her. He needed to find her and have her, he wanted to have her next to him,he wanted to feel how he felt the night he was with her, he wanted to kiss her again.....his phone rang and his thoughts were cut short.

"Sir," It was Drew."I'm sorry if woke you up,i promise it's important."

"Speak."

 "I finally got all I could find about her, do I send it now or..?"

"Send it to my email."

"Yes sir, right away." Drew said and Jake cut the call.

 In a few minutes, Jake saw Drew's email, and he hurriedly clicked on it. The first thing he saw was her picture, she was wearing a flowing red dinner dress, her hair was longer in the picture, he smiled looking at it. He caressed his phone screen like it were her he was touching.

Morning  5:46am

"Sir he's here," Drew said to Jake when he received his knock.

"Did you let him know the conditions?"

"Yes sir."

 Jake walked out of the room and in the sitting room sat a young man of about 23 years old. He stood up when he saw Jake walk in with Drew behind him.

"Good morning."

"You are early."Jake said expressionlessly.

"Yes..ssir" the man said, he was scared of the man in front of him and he didn't know why, maybe it was how deadly his eyes were to look at."I didn't want to be late, especially when I was informed you'll be meeting me in person, it's an honour sir."

"Is he native to this town?"Jake asked Drew who now stood behind where he sat.

  "Yes,he is. He was born and lives here." With Drew's reply, Jake looked at his watch, it was 6am already.

He knew nanny Therese would be Downstairs anytime soon, she always wakes up at that time ever since he knew her.

"Is she awake yet?" he asked Drew. He had to get her concern before he employed the young man to assist her, he didn't want her going through any stress, not at her age.

"Do I go check? And if she's not awake?"Drew sometimes wanted to know what his boss was thinking, he wanted to know how his boss expected an old lady to be up at that time.

"I almost forgot you boys were around you know."nanny Therese laughed as she came out of her room."I was sure I heard some voices here, didn't expect you'll be up this early, you looked tired yesterday." She sat on the sofa next to the young man, as she spoke directly to Jake this time.

"Good morning," Jake smiled at her when she was done talking.

"Bless you, son. Jerry? Is everything ok?"She grew concerned when she saw the man seated near her, she knew him.

"Morning nana." he said to her smiling with his teeth all out."I was called here for a job."

"Really?"she turned towards Jake.

"I got a call last night, i have to return to city A as soon as possible, I'm sorry," he started."I asked drew to find someone from the neighborhood who was willing to assist you around here."

"Yes nana. I told you I was looking for a job right?" the young man smiled anxiously hoping she won't stop his chance of getting the job, he knew how she liked her personal space.

"I wanted you to give it approval, before I leave."

      

"It's fine, i know how busy it can be to manage things back home." She said

and he smiled lightly again."well I know Jerry, maybe it won't be bad to have someone around here." she smiled to Jerry and he sighed, relaxed.

Drew's phone began to ring all of a sudden, and he tried looking for which pocket he put it, and he felt like it rang louder and louder, he looked up and met Jake's eyes.

"So sorry." Drew apologized when he finally reached his phone. He walked outside, closing the door as quietly as he could.

Meanwhile, Jake had wanted to ask the woman in front of him a lot of things. He had found out yesterday, that she was related to the woman he lost his control for, back at the hotel, but he didn't want Drew to be a part of the discussion.

"Excuse us." he said in a commanding voice and Jerry looked around, and knew he was the one he referred to.

"Sure." he smiled sheepishly but excitedly and left through the same door Drew had.

"Nanny?" Jake said in a whispering voice, then cleared his throat to sound better.

"Yes son."

"Your granddaughter...she stays in this town?" He didn't know how to start, he had never had to discuss about something like this.

"Yes, she's grown so much, you might not recognize her." nanny Therese replied waiting for him to continue.

"Why doesn't she stay with you then?"

"Her career. She needs to focus on her career on the other side of town, so she lives there."

"Did you decide to stay here or..."he stopped when he heard her chuckle.

"I did son. I did." She said and Jake didn't say anything more, even though he still had a lot to say.

"How's her career?" He asked.

"Son?"she smiled."what do you really want to ask me?"

   

Jake breathed in slowly and exhaled simultaneously. Would she be angry if he said what he wanted to say?

"Nanny i...."he stopped." I think I love her." He finally said.

 "Who do you love?"she had to ask, she wasn't sure who the 'her' was.

"Your granddaughter," He said confidently now and was shocked when Nanny Therese laughed out loud. It surely wasn't the reaction he expected.

   

"Son!" She said admist her giggles."Do you even remember her name? I mean the last time you saw her you were....how old again?" She asked herself and  recounted still giggling thinking he was joking, but he wasn't.

 "Victoria." She heard him mutter her granddaughter's name and stopped laughing."Vee."

"You do remember her." She said really shocked.

"I love her." he said again with a serious face. Truth be told, he didn't remember her name, he only knew her name from Drew's research, but he did remember what she looked like back then.

  

He didn't talk to her much back then; he wasn't allowed to, but he could remember her smile, her long curly hair. He had always wanted to look into those eyes of hers when he was younger, and looking at her eyes that night at the hotel, it reminded him of her, maybe that was why he did what he did, he didn't know.

He had all night to think of her, looking at her pictures, both past and recent ones, she had changed a lot,she even cut her hair.

"She's not that little girl you use to know." Nanny Therese started." And you do know that you'll have to talk to her not me, if you're sure about what you say you feel for her."

"I know." he said plainly.

"If she believes you do love her then you both can come here together sometime and I'll bless it."she smiled standing up to go hug him and he did Same.

"Thank you for your approval." He whispered to her as she hugged him tightly. She broke the hug and grabbed his right cheek lightly, pinching it.

"Take care of yourself okay? You look like you don't get enough rest."She smiled.

  

"I will."

"Try to get her quickly, so I don't die before giving my blessings"She said jokingly.

"I will start right away" he said with determination in his voice.
