"See why you can't tell your mum?"
"O my god!" Amber screamed quietly. "So you remember him now?"
"Maybe."
"What do you mean maybe?"
"I don't remember his face full on, you know."
"So what do you remember?"
"Doesn't matter. I mean it's not like I plan on ever seeing him again, what happened that night was a mistake, and if I ever see him I'll be embarrassed, I swear and mad too."
"Are you crazy?" Amber asked Victoria, surprised at her words."you almost had a one night stand with a rich guy like that and you say it doesn't matter? what doesn't matter, you tell me."
"Everything Amber. Every goddamn thing! For starters, I was drunk as hell that night, and who knows this guy might be married, probably has kids, can we stop talking about all of this."
"No we can't. You can't just assume he has kids, chances are he doesn't and doesn't have a wife also, if we start basing this in probability." Amber said making Victoria sigh, knowing she couldn't win an argument against Amber. She couldn't even win an argument against anyone and most time, people outside termed her more gentle than Amber, only if they knew it was because she's never good at arguments and do avoided them.
"Look Tori, for once in like a million years, you finally have a man in your head again, I'm not letting you throw it off, even if you don't have chances with him, leave it in your memory, don't go throwing it out; I mean you could date him up here."Amber said pointing towards her friends temple.
"When you say it like that ‘a million years’"Victoria made air quotes with her fingers and they both laughed.
"Seriously though, don't get rid of thoughts about him."
"What are you now, a love doctor?" Victoria said and they laughed again.

"Sir, I don't think we can go through this road" The driver said not speaking to Jake nor his assistant specifically. Drew opened the window to look outside. He shook his head negatively.
"Sir, he's right, would be hard to go
through the road." Drew said to Jake.
"What do you mean? Can we go through or it would be hard to?" Jake asked in a tone that made it hard for Drew to determine his mood.
"It would be hard to." Drew replied nevertheless.
"Let's keep moving then." Jake said with finality in his voice.
The convoy paved through the hilly road and drew couldn't help wonder how important this woman was to his boss.
Jake sat up as the car finally came to a halt. There were now at the house which he planned on visiting. He stepped out of the car.
"Sir?!"Drew also hurried out of the car, it had began to drizzle. One of the men from the other car ran up to him with an umbrella, taking it, Drew put it over his bosses head. Jake was taller, so he had to stand on his toes.
Jake just stood looking at the house. It was a bungalow, it's paint was faded, but the colourful flowers at the entrance gave it a welcoming look. Jake's lips curved upward a little.
'was he smiling?' Drew couldn't believe it. His boss had this rare smile on his lips. If he wasn't witnessing this right now and Evans had told him that Jake smiled, he wouldn't believe it. Jake started towards the house and Drew followed while trying to hold up the umbrella.
Jake knocked on the door still smiling, while Drew tried cleaning the drops of water on his bosses suit jacket with a handkerchief.
"Who's there?" A feminine voice came from behind the door. Jake didn't say anything. He wanted to surprise her. The door opened. The woman gasped while holding her chest.
"Boy!"She hugged him tightly and Jake hugged back.
Drew just stood surprised as they hugged for a while. He took some time to look at her; she was old, maybe in her 50's. Was she the one, who his boss went through all this trouble for?from the hotel to the bad roads.
"You came." She said in a shaky voice, like she was crying. Breaking her hug from Jake, Drew could see that she was actually crying.
"I told you I would, didn't I?"Jake said holding her face in his hands.
"Well, come in son, how was your trip?" She said walking inside the house.
'Horrible." Drew said to himself.
"Adventurous." He heard Jake say.
"Adventurous?are you sure? I mean this part of the town's denigrated." She said walking to another room in the house, while both Jake and Drew both sat down.
"Here."she came back with a tray and two glasses of juice In them.
"Why did you....."Jake couldn't finish his words as he stood and took the tray from her.
"Don't do that son, how old do you think I've gotten."She said laughing as she now sat opposite to drew.
"70?" Jake answered even though he knew it was rhetorical question, which made her laugh more.
"73" She said stretching her legs more comfortably on a small stool.
Drew's eyes widened. She didn't look 73. How could she still walk? Who was she even? For once, he didn't have a clue on who his boss was meeting.
"You don't have someone to help around?" Jake had to ask, he didn't like how she had to be the one to bring the drinks herself. He sat and picked up the glass, drinking it and drew knew he was in for more surprises today, because his boss never ate or drank anything outside.
"Don't need one."She said smiling. She was still pretty even at her age." Is your friend allergic to pineapple juice?" She asked referring to Drew.
"I'm actually his assistant." Drew said after his boss stared at him with those unreadable eyes. He picked up the second glass and took a sip." Thanks" He smiled.
"What do you mean you don't need one, what about your granddaughter."
"You remember her?"The old lady was surprised at Jake.
"Of course I do, I carried her a lot." Jake chuckled lightly.
"She on the other side of town, living with her friend. Her career demands it, don't judge her for not staying with grandma." she smiled and Jake didn't want to press it further.

Back at the Clayton's.
"Hurry up Tori!, It's starting to drizzle." Amber yelled out to Victoria who had gone back inside to get her purse.
"See even the weather doesn't want us to leave the house." Victoria said seeing it was drizzling.
"We could make it, look at you, making no effort to go visit ur grandma." Amber opened the umbrella above her head and went out to get a cab, while Victoria just watched her from the verandah.
Amber stood there, waving whenever she thought she saw a cab coming, but it would turn out to be a private car. She didn't want to give up; wanting so badly to prove to Victoria that the weather had nothing to do with them visiting her grandma.
Suddenly the rain increased, pouring down like it hadn't rained for years meanwhile it rained just yesterday. Amber had no choice but to run back to the verandah, as she was now fighting with the wind over her umbrella and Victoria just stood there watching with an 'i told you so' expression on her face.
Victoria quickly shut the door to the house as they both went back inside. Victoria took off her coat with a smirk on her face.
"Yeah, Keep smiling, it's not fair you know." Amber said looking at disappointed.
"She'll understand, it's pouring out there." Victoria replied as she went to the kitchen and Amber followed.
"She lied to you fine, it's been years girl, can't believe you're still angry at your grandma, she's your grandma for crying out loud!"
"Whoever said I'm angry with her " Victoria said handing her a cup of hot tea while she made hers.
"Do you know how horrible you are at lying?" Amber placed the tea on the table, folding her ams.
"I'm not angry with her I swearrr!" Victoria stressed and walked pass her friend with her own cup of tea.
"Really?"
"Yesss." Victoria now sat at the dinning room, sipping her tea after replying Amber. She could feel Amber's stare on her, raising her eyes only still sipping the tea,she saw her actually staring. She sighed, then dropped the cup.
"Look she lied to me, almost my whole life and trust me, I'm not mad about that, the problem's she won't give me the answers I want, you know she knows she just won't tell me anything because she knows I can't get the answers I need myself even if I try." Victoria said almost sobbing.
"And you think leaving her house and not speaking to her will help matters?"
"I do call her to check up on her." Victoria defended and all Amber could do was sigh.
"Come on, she's an old woman living alone in the worst part of this town and the least you could do is visit her." Amber said softly.
"I know. It's just....I don't know, it's hard to go visit her all smiley knowing she knows and is just been stubborn." Victoria replied pouting.
"We visit her tommorow ok?, it's the last free time we have before we return to the modelling house, agreed?"
"Ok." Her reply was simple, she knew she couldn't argue with Amber.
"If you guys are done talking, could you make dinner, I'm hungry."Mrs Clayton said and they both turned to the direction of the voice.
"We could be in nana Therese's, eating porridge, you know." Amber whispered to Victoria, and they both giggled.
*******
"Nanny Therese?" Jake called to her from the kitchen, a knitted apron round his waist, he had taken off his suit jacket, and Drew wasn't surprised anymore about his boss being in the kitchen; he had offered to help but his boss asked him to help her tidy around.
The house wasn't scattered, but anyone who entered it could detect that an old woman lived here, and though she was strong at her age, she was old afterall.
"Yes son." She answered from the living room.
"The salt's finished, anymore?"
"Oh, I'll come get it." She said standing.
"No don't, just tell me where it is,I'll get it." Jake came out to kitchen's entrance where he could see she wasn't coming like she said.
"Ok, look to the left corner of the room, you'll see a sack, there's some items my granddaughter got me last time she was here, there should be some salt in there."
"Ok, don't get up ok." He said to her before returning to the kitchen.
"If you spoil me like this, how I'm I going to be able to lift a finger when you leave?" He heard her ask him.
"You won't have to, I promise" He replied her and she laughed loudly.
"You plan to stay and take care of me till I die?, I'm not dying soon you know, I think I still have few more years to go." With that he didn't have a reply for her, so he just kept mute and so did drew.

Jake walked out of the bathroom after he had showered and looked around the room nanny Therese had shown him to spend the night, that was after he had explained how and why Drew was comfortable with sleeping in one of the cars out.She had mentioned that it was her granddaughter's room. Looking around the room it was painted purple and black mainly. The bed had no lamp table besides either side of it, just a standing lamp on the left, the bed could have two persons sleep on it. It's sheets were cream coloured, with peach pillows. He went towards the bed and sat on it, took off his shoes, his eyes wandered around again and he noticed a mirror table and a chair in front of it, some books on the left part of the table, and some lotions on the right, all neatly arranged; it's owner might have used them recently, because the room smelt familiar. He felt like she was right there in the room, he took out his phone and dialed Drew."Sir?""Did you do it?""Yes. No. I mean I'm working on it si
"Sir?" Drew came back in. "Mr Edward was the one who called.""I have to go now." Jake said to Nanny Therese and kissed her cheeks."I'll walk you out, come on." she walked in front of him to the door where Drew stood, and he(Drew) made way for her to pass through."Someone should stay behind to see how he's taking care of her." Jake whispered to drew and he nodded his head to show that he understood.*****11:38am, Claytons residence"Tori!! Get your ass out here, we're still gonna go visit her." Amber yelled to Victoria who was taking forever to get the purse she said she forgot inside like yesterday."I'm here already, jeez!" Tori said to her walking out of the house."If this taxi leaves without us again, I swear I'll tell mum you dreamt about him, and you know she's going to suggest you see a psychologist!""How dare you blackmail me with that!"Victoria said in a high toned whisper."You gave me no choice baby." Amber said."C'mon let's go." She pulled Victoria's hand. They soon a
3:56pm"Sir, as soon we get off the plane, we head home, I have information that the president is already waiting for you at the mansion." Drew said as the door to the private jet opened automatically.Jake walked down the stairs with his usual aura, while Drew followed behind, waiting for a response."Tell the driver to take us to the headquarter, you arrange a meeting with the entertainment groups managers." Jake said while entering the car which the driver had opened for him. Drew also got in."But sir....the president is at the mansion." Drew reminded his boss in a shaky voice, but Jake didn't say anything, he just sat and closed his eyes. The driver who just sat waiting for instructions turned around to look at Drew."To the headquarter."Drew said having no choice but to obey his boss. The driver just nodded and began to drive, while the other cars followed.Drew didn't know what mood his boss was in at the moment,he could remember he was happy just when they left nanny Therese's
"Sir, do I ask the driver to get the car ready?" Drew asked once they were back at Jake's office, but Jake didn't reply, he just stared at the glass wall opposite his table.Drew looked to see if Jake was watching someone, through the one way translucent glass which served as a front wall but there was no one there."Sir?"Drew called to him."Sir?"Jake finally looked at him."do I ask the driver to get the car ready?""Do I have any meeting scheduled?""No sir, it's just that sir Edward called again to inform me that the president is still waiting." Drew said and watched his boss sigh."She did mention it was an office matter when she asked me back here right?" Jake asked looking back at wall."So I was informed by sir Edward, yes."Drew said watching his words, he didn't want to be involved in any drama between Jake and his mother, who prefered to be called by her position at the company."Get the car ready then."he heard Jake say.******Drew peeked a look at Jake as the car drove to t
"Nana,we're leaving." Amber whispered when she was sure she was close enough to nanny Therese."You're still here, I thought i overhead you say you both would be late to the academy, if you didn't leave before 8am this morning.""Sooo sorry, nana, didn't intend to wake you up, just thought I should come in here and inform you before we leave." Amber said. She had crept in slowly into nanny Therese's room to say goodbye."It's fine dear, did Victoria leave already?" Nanny Therese didn't see her here with Amber."No nana, Tori's out waiting for me.""Oh okay. Let me go out with you." Nanny Therese smiled while getting out of bed, Amber helped her up.Victoria heard footsteps coming from behind her, so she put her phone in her jean pocket."Finally you're are here, what took you so long." Turning around to face Amber, she met with her grandma instead."I thought I should come hug you before you leave, who knows when next you'll be coming back." Nanny Therese snatched a hug from her.Vict
"Today?!" A few of them chorused unevenly."Yes, here they come. Ssshh, you guys." Berry whispered. The girls stood in a horizontal line with their prettiest smiles and most presentable poses, ready to welcome the visitors.Brown walked In with some men and women accompanying him, he had his tablet in his hands.Everywhere was quite now. Brown looked up from his tablet, taking his shades off and handing it to one of the person who came with him, he started to look around."Good day everyone." He smiled as he greeted, everyone and everything around here seemed organized, maybe this wouldn't be as hard as he thought."I am Brown Carter. You can call me Brown, I was assigned here by my boss directly to recruit the finest of models, and that I shall do." He peered his eyes through the line of girls in front of him, he wanted to be sure she was here before he began. He looked at Victoria's picture on his tablet and looked at her again, where she stood besides Amber."This is her right?" H
"If your name wasn't mentioned, may I ask you leave." Brown requested amid the murmurs going on.Leaving the arena, some of the girls kept on looking at Victoria in a query manner."We would travel in the next five hours, kindly meet the young lady over there, sign your contract and if you wish not to, please do inform my team." Brown's phone rang as soon as he was done talking and Diane missed her chance of talking with him.The girls stood in a vertical line, in front of the arranged table where they were to sign their contract."I knew I was right when I said miss Diane had it out for you two." Amber heard Brie's voice from behind her.Surprised that Brie wasn't talking about Victoria getting picked without a walk earlier but the history between her mother and Miss Diane, she didn't want to talk about that but she had to reply."I don't think so, there must be a reason we weren't informed about today." "You think?" Brie asked."Well, yes." Amber nodded."Tori what do you think?" B
"Finally! You aren't mad at the old woman anymore.""It's not like I hate her, you know i don't right?" Victoria needed to clarify that."Of course I do." Amber knew she didn't. Her phone rang, it was her mother.Meanwhile on the other side of the Arena, Diane walked over to Brown again." I think I might have to cancel this whole thing, Mr Brown." Diane's smile was ungenuine."What do you mean?" Brown needed to hear her repeat her words, so he could be sure."My girls won't be leaving with you, this agreement is over, please don't take it the wrong way." She made to walk away."You do know you can't do this.""I can and I plan to. It's why I am informing you." Diane didn't care about the other girls now, as long as Amber wasn't getting this opportunity. "The girls signed the contract already, it's pretty much as complicated a legal matter now, you surely can't go against our contract." Brown's words were certain.Diane could barely hide her frustration. Her efforts were now futile.*
"So, how's my brother-in-law doing?" "O my god, Amber, it's just for some months," Victoria told her friend and heard her laugh out loud over the phone."Mark my words, it's gonna be longer than that, way longer. I know love when I see it.""Here we go again.""You know I have a way to detect love when I see it.""And is that because he's billionaire Jake Topher?" Victoria laughed back before getting a knock on the door."Who is it?! Cora? Emily?" She asked, but when she didn't get a response, she decided to go for the door, leaving her phone on the bed."Give me a second, Amber,""Alright..." Amber replied to Victoria who was already by the door."Emily, I told you already, I eat all the types of fruits, so anyone you use to make my fruit salad is okay." Victoria started to talk before opening the door."Please don't come up to ask me again," She said on opening the door but saw that it wasn't Emily and neither was it Cora."Are you busy right now?" Jake asked her when she stood for s
"How did I? I guess I have a superpower, like you do" he reminded her of what she told him yesterday when they were alone in the kitchen. She laughed shortly."Okay, let's do this..." She had an idea to get him to tell her more of the things she wanted to know about him."How about I tell you about my grandma and our not-so-good relationship and then you tell me about you and your mother, and maybe your brother too?"Jake nodded. He didn't need her to tell him about her grandma because he knew her well, he knew about her relationship with her grandma but yet he nodded, anything to please her."Okay, I'll start." Victoria smiled. "My grandma is a nice woman, the nicest, I love my nana but...I haven't been on good terms with her since I turned eighteen, I mean there were a lot of things that led up to that but when I became eighteen, it kinda got out of hand." She paused and looked up from fiddling with her dish. After seeing that he was listening, she continued."I was in my Nana's roo
At the Topher mansion.Victoria was in her room taking a quick shower while Jake immediately went to the kitchen to do what she wanted him to do; cook."Master?" Felix walked into the kitchen when he was walking by and saw Jake there. "Do you need the chef? I'll get him right away.""No. I don't need him Felix.""Oh." Felix looked around for a bit, not wanting to ask Jake directly what he was doing in the kitchen if he didn't want the chef present for his orders."I want to cook for my wife," Jake helped him out."Oh." Felix said again. He wasn't surprised, he knew Jake cooked with her the previous night. "Do you need me to...""No." "Okay." Felix left.Alone now, it occurred to Jake that he didn't even know what Victoria wanted to eat, he couldn't make a meal if he didn't know what she would like to eat.He knew he had to go up and ask her. He knocked on her room's door but didn't get a come in like he expected so he knocked again."Who is it?" He heard her ask but didn't say anythi
"Why did you let someone leave with her?!" Jake's voice was unusually loud, it made Brown shiver. He was mostly glad that there weren't any of the models around to witness what was happening; he was glad no one was around to see Jake talk to him like that, the receptionist hadn't let for the day yet but she wasn't at her post."I...I....""You what?!" Jake stopped his stammering."He said that you....that you sent him. He said Mr Topher wanted him to....""Did you ask which?""....." Brown grew quiet when Jake asked that last question. Hours later,The designers discourse took hours. This was because they had to explain to the model about the fashion week as it was the first most of them were having. They were assigned numbers and were detailed with the processes involved. Victoria was glad she didn't miss it all. She learnt some things she didn't know before then and was excited for the approaching summer fashion week. Some of the models would walk the ramp on heels, some on slippers while some would go barefoot depending on the apparel being modelled."Victoria?" Someone called her amid her thoughts where she stood waiting for Amber to use the restroom. She turned and it was one of her fellow models, she wouldn't say but she was surprised that the girl knew her name."Yeah?" She responded to know why the girl was looking for her."Brown wants you in his office right now.""Oh okay." She said following her to Brown's office. When they got there, the girl knocked and poked her head inside the office."She's here." V
"Stop the car here!" Victoria made Jake stop the car suddenly when they were almost at the studio."Did you forget? I can't have you dropping me off at the direct entrance."Jake actually forgot about that. She left the car in a hurry, her handbag almost dropping from her shoulder. She was almost at the entrance when she turned back to the car, Jake wasn't leaving, he was waiting for her to go in.‘Why is he waiting?’ Victoria asked herself and decided to wave at the car so he could drive away. Jake smiled broadly when she waved at him, one of his rare smiles but no one was in the car to witness it. Victoria saw that he wasn't leaving so she walked back to the car. Jake rolled down the glass to the car's window before she could knock on it."Why are you still here?" She asked with a bossy voice that only made Jake smile at her without giving a response."Urghh, don't you have to be in your office or something? Go to your office, now!" She ordered him with her hands akimbo."Yes ma'am."
Next morning.0 9 : 1 4 am.Victoria was laying in bed, sleeping peacefully when the phone rang loudly, it woke her up with a jolt. When she checked, she saw that it was Amber calling so she answered."Tori?""Yeah?""You sound sleepy, please tell me that you are not in bed right now." Amber said and Victoria realized that she was probably late again.'Shit.' She said in her mind."Tori?" Amber called her again."I will be there in the next twenty five minutes, I think?" Victoria said getting out of bed."O my god, she is still in bed." Amber could tell."It's not my fault." Victoria was now in front of the wardrobe taking out a dress."There are some persons here to have a talk with us, all of us and you're not here yet.""Have they begun?" Victoria threw the dress to the bed as she asked worried that she might not be able to make it on time."Not yet, I think they are waiting for one of their team member to arrive at the studio before they begin. Hurry up, okay?" "Okay." Victoria p
Holding his hands, she attempted pulling him up so he helped her out, getting up like she wanted but he was surprised by what she did next. She stood on her toes and put her arms around his neck, hugging him before proceeding to whisper to him;"It's okay." Jake haven't had someone hug him like that since he turned eighteen and had to kill all of his feelings to take on his office as the vice president of the Tn group. His mother hugged him occasionally but those were mostly for her own self- gratifications and they didn't come with the sense of care Victoria's hug came with. When she hugged him, it made him feel warm inside for the first time in so long, it took away the iciness he had to keep up with, she melted him.Still unsure if to return the hug or not, he heard her say;"Things happen for a reason you know, it couldn't all be your fault." With less hesitation now, he put his arms around her, pulling her closer to himself, he hugged her back. Their torsos pressed against eac
