CHAPTER 2 - Leo Wants Her Dead

Leo's eyes tightened and he quickly said, “Do everything you can to save the child, and nothing must happen to the mother. I'll be there right away.”

He didn't have time to think too much and hung up the phone before stuffing the divorce agreement into Amelia's arm.

“Just sign it and leave it at home. I'll send someone to pick it up later. Make sure you are gone before I return.” With that, he got into his car and hurriedly drove away.

Amelia held the divorce agreement and watched the car disappear into the distance, feeling as if her heart had turned to ashes.

Was there really no need to salvage this marriage? She didn't even bother to read the contents of the agreement, hastily signed it, and then packed a few of her clothes into a large suitcase before heading downstairs.

The maid, Dora, was surprised to see her carrying a large suitcase down so late at night. “Madam, where are you going?”

Amelia remembered Leo's words and sneered. “Don't call me madam anymore just call me Ms Amelia.”

He didn't like her as his wife and she didn't want to be one either.

Dora was speechless. Although she didn't know what happened between them, she had heard their argument just now and didn't dare to say anything more.

Amelia remembered something and took off a bracelet from her wrist. “Dora, your son was sick before and I couldn't do much to help. This bracelet is worth at least five thousand dollars. Take it and use it for your son's medical treatment.”

“I can't accept such a valuable thing ma.”

“It's okay,” Amelia said as she handed the bracelet to Dora.

Dora's eyes sparkled. “Thank you so much ma.”

The bracelet was a betrothal gift from Leo when they got married. Although a billionaire like Leo Reynolds, a bracelet seemed too shabby, it still showed his disdain for his wife.

But Amelia treasured it and had been wearing it all the time. Now that the marriage was over, she didn't need to keep it anymore.

***

Half an hour later, Amelia saw Henry, who came to pick her up.

Seeing her standing on the roadside in just a thin coat, Henry's eyes turned red.

“Why did you run out wearing so little? Where is Leo? I'll go and settle scores with him.”

She pulled him back. “Brother, forget it I'm a little cold, can you take me home first?”

Seeing her like this Henry quickly took off his coat and put it on her. “Okay, let me take you home first. We'll talk about it later.”

They arrived at Henry's apartment. After hearing the whole story, Henry was furious.

“This is outrageous, how could he treat you like this? Doesn't he know you are pregnant?”

“He doesn't know,” I said.

Henry was stunned. “Why?”

“I was about to inform him before he dropped the news of Sophia's pregnancy and asked for a divorce. Afterward, I couldn't bring myself to tell him. He doesn't deserve to know anymore.”

Her shoulders slumped, she looked downward as her lower lips quivered. “I’ve figured it out. A marriage without love is meaningless, even if you use a child to tie it together.”

“Before I was too naive. I thought even a block of ice could be slowly melted by warmth. But now I know, he's not ice, he's cold steel and cold steel can't be melted by warmth.”

“So, brother, I don't want to push it anymore, and I ask that you don't push it either. Just let it go, I have finally accepted the fact that Leo can never fall in love with me.”

“Don't worry if Leo doesn't want you, I am here. When this child is born, I'll help you raise him or her.”

Amelia smiled, acknowledging his kindness.

“What are you planning to do next? I can help you secure a job at the company.”

“Thank you bro but I don't think I want that. You know dad and mum will insist that I go back to Leo. I don't want them to know about the divorce until I'm gone.”

Henry tilted his head quizzically. “Gone? What do you mean?”

“I want to relocate abroad.”

“I studied business management in college and although I had been with Leo for three years, I still have some money in my account. I planned to use this money to study abroad and have my child at the same time.”

Henry didn't have any objections, in his opinion going abroad was a good idea. It would keep her far away from Leo and she wouldn't be hurt by him again in the future.

So, the two of them agreed to book their plane ticket and leave the next day.

Amelia stayed in Henry's apartment for the night. Unexpectedly, in the middle of the night, she heard a loud “clang!”

Immediately followed by Henry's angry roar. “Who are you people? you…”

She quickly got up from the bed and rushed to the living room, only to see four or five black-clothed masked men standing there.

She screamed in terror and instinctively tried to run away, but the next second, a cloth was pressed into her nose from behind. She smelled a strange odor and then knew nothing else.

They were dragged into a cruise ship. The kidnappers stripped off their clothes and took some ambiguous photos of them huddled together.

After sending the photos to the person who hired them, they called and asked, “How should we deal with these two?”

The person sneered over the phone. “Throw them into the sea to feed the fish. But it has to be disguised as an accident, do you understand?”

“We understand, we'll do it right away.”

After the cruise ship had sailed for a while, it suddenly hit a huge rock. Then seawater rushed in through the huge wound in the hull.

Amelia was awakened by the sea water choking her. She looked around at the seawater pouring in from all sides, feeling extremely frightened, and quickly shook Henry awake.

She also saw a speed boat not far away and desperately waved her arms.

“Hey! Help! Save us!”

But the wind brought only the men mocking laughter.

“Ms Amelia this is a gift from Mr Reynold no need to thank us.”

Amelia shuddered violently. Was this an order from Leo?
