Ruthy’s
Me and my family are now in front of the main doors of the palace, patiently waiting for the Wilhems. I was holding a basket of sweets and Dad was holding a bottle of champagne. Keith, who is beside me, was fidgeting on his suit.
“Keith, can’t you stay still?” Mom complained who was on his other side.
“Sorry, Mom. My collar is a little uncomfortable,” He said, adjusting his collar.
A few seconds later, the trumpets played and Sir Saint opened the doors.
“Presenting, the Royal Family of Wilhem.”
King Ricardo was in front, wearing a plain white coat with gold linings and an elegant single-layered silver crown. Queen Josephine, who wrapped her arm on King Ricardo’s arm, was wearing a long, asymmetrical plum dress with her hair in a bun and of course, the same crown King Ricardo was wearing. Behind them, was Princess Althea and Prince Thomas. Althea was wearing a yellow pouf dress that reached her knees and she had her hair in a ponytail. Her tiara set perfectly on her head. Thomas was just as simple as his Father but he wore a long sleeve polo and a one-sided brown coat that lay on his left shoulder. A silver crown shining brightly on his head. As we met in the middle of the hall, we all bowed and curtsied simultaneously. By then, I heard my Father shout.
“Ricardo! Ha-ha! You’ve gotten a little taller eh?”
“Andriego! Ha-ha! I see you seem a little buffed eh?”
And that was the start of the loud greetings. Mom and Queen Josephine were exchanging kisses and Keith was suddenly riding Thomas’ back who almost fell on the ground, and here I am, body slammed by Althea who was crushing me.
“Ruthy! Ruthy, ruthy, ruthy! I missed you so much, oh I have a lot of stories to tell you!” She enthusiastically exclaimed. I chuckled then hugged her back tightly.
“I’m so glad you’re here, Althea. The world is just giving me everything lately,” I sighed and I heard her giggle.
“Now, save those ‘everything’ later at my room, okay?”
Althea then went to Mom and Dad to greet them and now, Thomas was in front me.
“Princess Ruthy,” He greeted then took my hand to kiss it.
“Prince Thomas,” I curtsied. “How was your travel?”
“Tolerable, it wasn’t as boring as I expected it to be. Althea was babbling every hour,” He chuckled. Oh, wasn’t expecting this fresh attitude from him.
“Wow, you’re in a good mood?” I teased and he smiled.
“I guess you’re having a tough time lately, I might just pull back messing with you for a while.”
“Say, ‘how bout we head to the Dining Hall for dinner? I’m starving!” Dad commented then led the way.
--
The Dining Hall was noisy, but in a pleasant way. We we’re all chatting and eating at the same time.
“So, Ruthy, dear, how did the opening of the orphanage go?” Queen Josephine asked.
I set down my spoon and fork then placed my hands on my thighs. “It went great, Your Majesty. The children loved their new home,” I replied with a smile.
She smiled back at me. “That’s good news, darling. I’m happy to see you progress like your Mother. You’d make a fantastic queen, don’t you think Cleo?” She faced Mom.
“I agree. Me and Andriego are constantly teaching and training her for the future. She’s a tough one.”
“Say, Ruthy, have you made your thoughts of getting married?” King Ricardo suddenly said in between the talks. I almost choked my food.
Althea gave me a tissue and I straightened my poise. “I am yet to meet a suitable partner, Your Majesty.”
“Don’t you think it’s getting a little late, Andriego? She’s turning 18 in a few months,” Queen Josephine told Dad.
Dad wiped his mouth then cleared his throat. “Well, it is really not my place to force my daughter to marry. She will meet her love, soon.”
I looked at Dad and gave him a warm smile. He really is the best. He’s not forcing me to anything I don’t like, even if it’s going to cause him trouble. I’ve always wanted to help Dad in any way I can. Seeing all the stress he’s been feeling, all the papers he has to sign, the country he has to rule. It wasn’t his fault he was born of royal blood, and all I have to do is carry that with him.
“How about my son here, Thomas?” King Ricardo suddenly perched.
I heard two different things that moment. Coughing and laughing. The coughing was from me and Thomas, and the laughing was from Althea and Keith.
“I’m sorry, what?” Thomas, who was in front of King Ricardo, almost drowned in his water.
“Thomas is a likely suitable partner for Ruthy. He is of royal blood, he has the looks, the brains and the manners. They would rule Rinovea marvelously,” King Ricardo added.
Queen Josephine was looking at Mom, waiting for her reaction, but she was speechless.
“Well, I-uh, that depends entirely on the children. Right, darling?” Dad looked at Mom, waiting for S.O.S.
Mom came back to her senses then clasped her hands. “Yes, Thomas is the perfect candidate for this, but I would not like them to force each other. We’ll give them time.” She smiled. Hold on- wait a minute. Is she actually agreeing on this?
“Then it is settled! Thomas can stay here for a few months to spark up their relationship, you know?” King Ricardo teased and laughed. Dad followed, but with a nervous chuckle.
I was left dumb-founded. I can’t bring myself to join the conversation because they looked determined to make this work. I can only open and close my mouth.
"Wait, are we really serious about this? Can't I stay too?" Althea said who was beside me.
“Of course, you can. Are you against it, darling?” Queen Josephine softly asked.
Althea looked at me then winked. “Well, not really. I wouldn’t mind my best friend finally being family, but at least give them time.”
I looked at Thomas, hoping for a rebound, but he was just as speechless as I was.
“Dessert will be served.”
And that moment, saved us all. The topic died down, and they were finally talking about business.
“Oh my gosh, I never realized that Dad would bring that up,” Althea said beside me. I laid down on her shoulder then wrapped my arm on her arm. “I can’t believe this is happening. He’s your brother! How are you okay with that?” I complained.
She shrugged. “Thomas can be a prick sometimes, but he’s caring and smart when he’s serious. I’m surprised he didn’t push you to the fountain a while ago when we arrived.”
“Chocolate mousse cups for the first dessert of the evening.”
I turned and saw Noah serving the dessert. He had his hair brushed backwards and he was wearing a neat blue apron that matched his white polo.
“Shut-up. Who is that handsome man?” Althea whispered beside me.
I stared at him as he served the dessert at each of us. When he finally reached my seat, he gave me a wink before going back to the kitchen.
“Ah, that boy right there is Noah. He saved my daughter from an attack last week, so we offered him a place here in the palace,” Dad explained.
“That’s very nice of you, Andriego and Cleo,” Queen Josephine commented as she tasted the mousse cup.
I turned to Althea. “There you have it. That’s Noah,” I said.
I looked at the mousse cup and it was so captivating. This is one of my favorite desserts ever. I grabbed a spoon and took a scoop on the cup. When I tasted it, it was like the world stopped for a moment to ask for a bite. It was like heavens on my tongue.
“That is amazing!” Althea exclaimed as she immediately finished the cup.
“You got a talented baker right here, Andriego,” King Ricardo commented as he nodded his head while finishing the cup.
I savored every bite I had. He was really a talented baker, just like Queen Josephine. Queen Josephine baked a cake for my 10th and 16th birthday. It was one of the best cakes we had. Mom even hid some to eat in their room.
“How is it, Mother?” Althea asked. I looked at Queen Josephine and she almost dropped the spoon.
“Josephine?” King Ricardo called. She was speechless for a moment, staring at the cup.
“That was the most delicious mousse cup I ever tasted,” She said then smiled. She looked at King Ricardo, “It was almost like my Mother’s.”
I breathed. I thought she didn’t like it. Noah would sweat buckets if I told him that. “You should taste his cheesecake. It’s my personal favorite,” Mom said, who finished her cup as well.
I giggled. I remember our ‘cheesecake’ interaction almost a month ago. Because of that cheesecake, we met and then met again in my castle. What a coincidence huh?
“So, he’s living here?” Althea asked. I can’t believe she’s interested at him.
“Yeah, but I don’t know how long, maybe after the construction of his bakery? We offered him one since he saved my life.”
Althea giggled. “He likes you.”
I let out a laugh. “What are you talking about?”
She smirked at me, “I saw the way he looked at you. He saved you not just because you’re the princess.” And then she teased me all through-out dinner.
"That- is crazy," Althea exhaled as I finish my story about the invasion. I laid down on the carpet we settled and sighed. "I told you. The world is giving me everything lately." She laid beside me and said, "By everything, you mean Noah too?" I stiffened and she laughed. "Don't tease me like that. Nothing is going on between us," I explained. Why is she even having those thoughts? I haven't even spoke about Noah yet and she only saw him once! And it was while he was serving us food! "Eh- don't put it that way. I didn't even say it like that." and she teased me even more. She laughed and I laughed too, but then I felt my chest tighten that I had to place my hand on it. She suddenly stopped. "Are you okay? Is it the wound?" She softly asked. I smiled at her. "It’s like some side effects. I guess the wound was too deep after all. It was weird for it to miraculously heal so fast." She hugged me lightly. "I guess we
I was dozing off during breakfast and my Mom seemed to notice. "Ruthy, dear? Are you alright?" She asked. Everyone then stopped eating and looked at me. I stopped halfway from swallowing when their eyes were on me. "I'm fine, Mom. I just didn't get a good sleep last night." I notice Thomas grin who was now in frontof me by the table. I rolled my eyes at him. "Is your wound still bothering you?" Dad asked with concern in his voice. I hate it when I stress my Father out. I don't want to be a nuisance to him especially when he's handling so many things right now. I held my chest softly. "Not really. I think the stitches just tighten from time to time. It means it’s healing right?" Dad exhaled and smiled at me. "Yes dear. I'm glad to hear you're healing. So don't go around being energetic and all for a while, alright?" I nodded then peeked at Thomas who's grin now disappeared. All through-out breakfast, he was quiet. The Wilh
Noah offered to sit by the garden when I calmed myself down. "Aren't you supposed to be working?" I asked as we sat down by the bench, facing the castle. He shrugged. "I finished my part anyway. So, care to explain why you were crying in the hallway?" I sighed then brushed my hair. "I can't. Well, I- I'm just getting tired and confused that's all," I excused. I can't tell Noah what's happening between me and Angelo. I don't know if I can trust him already, but I have this feeling that I already do. Noah became so attached to me already, I can't seem to hate him anymore. My family likes him, even Althea likes him. I owe him my life. He leaned against his back, "If I were you, I'd just escape the castle for a while and go out, you know," I giggled. That is such a 'Noah' thing to do. "Hey, I haven't asked you. What's your full name?" He suddenly asked. "Ruthyelia Celeste Nobingale. Well, Nobingale of Rinovea, if I may add."
"In two days time, we can visit the new bakery you built for Noah, dear," Dad said as he placed the books back on the shelves. We just finished our afternoon lessons. This time, it was about the people's characteristics. He taught me how to communicate with the people and how to earn their trust. He said that what matters most to the people is our relationship with them and how we see them as humans. I gathered the papers on my table then handed it to him. "That's nice. I can't believe it's already done." "You said you didn't want it to be too grand or too simple, so the engineers really did their best this time." Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. "King Andriego?" We turned and saw Queen Josephine by the door. I stood and curtsied. "Yes, Queen Josephine?" Dad answered as he straightened his coat. "If I may so, I would like to request for something," She started. "Of course. What is it?" She took a deep br
It’s finally the day. Brylle's 20th birthday. My maids put me on a beige long gown with long sleeves and I'm telling you, it is the most uncomfortable dress I have yet I have to wear it since Queen Josephine likes the color beige. "I don't know why I'm nervous. I don't know," Althea said as she keep on pacing. She got ready earlier than me and now she's ranting here in my room while I get ready. "Why are you nervous? There's nothing to be worried about," I assured her as my maids busy themselves. She continued pacing. "I don't know. I just feel like something is going to happen." I sighed then peeked at her at my mirror. "Relax, Althea. Nothing is going to happen. Unless Brylle suddenly shows up and thanks us for the feast," I joked. She inhaled sharply. "Oh my gosh, what if he does?" I giggled. Althea sometimes gets paranoid from stuff like this, like occasions. She's a very bright and energetic woman but she still has a soft spot for
When we reached the gate, Angelo and Saint were wearing their black suits. My eyes sparkled at Angelo. I guess my love for him won't easily fade even when he's ignoring me. I gave them a two-finger salute. "Ruthy!" Althea called as she waves her fan. She was wearing a yellow high-waist dress with a white scarf on her neck. Simple and colorful outfits really suit her despite her age- not that I'm saying she's old or anything. "We will be taking the train today since the bakery is located near your Uncle's house in the South-East, right?" Dad told Noah. "Yes, Your Majesty," Noah answered as we sat in the carriage with Angelo and Saint outside odn their horses. The train station wasn't far from our palace. We had our own train that we can take anytime of the day. I sat at the window side of the train and Althea was beside me. "Is the bakery filled yet?" Althea asked. I giggled. "Maybe. Don't tell me you're going to take some food?"
The moment we stepped foot on the train, it immediately moved. Dad and Noah were pacing all over the train, Althea was silently crying and Ford was praying. "Ruthy!"Dad and Althea embraced me. "Are you hurt? Why is there blood on you?" Dad frantically asked. "I just hurt my ankle, but..." I looked behind me and Saint entered while carrying Angelo. "Oh my god," Dad whispered then came to help Saint. "Your Majesty..." Saint said. "Please, let me help you. You're our family, remember?" Dad and Saint lay Angelo on the floor. He was still conscious and he was holding down my handkerchief on his wound. Dad stood then went to the other side of the train. I knelt beside Angelo then held his hand. "You're gonna be okay," I said. Saint looked at me, worried about the people around us. I didn't care. I finally didn't care. He was dying in front me, I have no time to pretend anymore. Althea knelt beside
I’ve always felt that I was being held in a cage, like I was being controlled. I thought that being a princess means being forced to make decisions I didn’t want. I was wrong. I was completely free. I was powerful, I was strong, I was royal. Right now, I have to make the right decision, the best decision. Mom stood carefully by the door, hugging herself. I sharply inhaled, afraid of what she’s going to say next. I kept fidgeting my fingers behind me, thinking of what I should say in a nickle of time. Am I going to be banished? Am I going to be exiled? “Ruthy, are you okay?” Mom quietly asked. I looked up. I gasped and ran to her. I embraced my Mother tightly and buried my face on her shoulder. Suddenly, I feel relaxed. The moment my Mother asked me how I felt, everything that was pulling me down disappeared. I was a fool. This is my Mother- my Mother who loves me with all her soul, my Mother who would do everything for me, the Queen who would save her princes
After 3 months The Royal Wedding I woke up feeling nauseous and light-headed. Last night, I couldn’t bring myself to sleep because of excitement and nervousness. I couldn’t decide if I was feeling cold or warm when I was laying down in bed. Althea, who arrived in our palace yesterday, strictly ordered me to have at least 8 hours of sleep. I ended up having 5 hours of sleep. The men stayed at the other side of the palace, while we will be preparing at the Women’s Room. As soon as I woke up, Althea came knocking down my door. “Princess! Hello? Bride to be! Wake up! It’s way past your breakfast!” she said outside the door. It’s currently 6 in the morning, the wedding will be at 11. I stood and went to the bathroom to wash my face. My maids were already arranging the make up and other accessories at the Women’s Room together with the other maids. The Women’s R
Ruthy’s The past week had been a blast. I’ve never felt so happy in my life. The Wilhems already left last week, but they promised to return in three months for the wedding. Yes, I’m getting married. I know, it may seem fast, but we have a lot to do before even getting married and after. My parents said they were ready to pass the throne and they even became emotional, but they were proud to crown me as Queen of Rinovea. I am getting a little over the future there, but it will come. “Ready when you are, love,” Noah says. We are now heading to the Throne Room to have a discussion with my parents. Noah seems calm and confident, but I know he’s feeling nervous beyond the soul. This is the first time we’ll be having a serious talk in front of the King and Queen with regards our plans for the future. We’ll also talk about what will happen to our family. “I can feel your hands shaking,” I teased him as we walked hand in hand. “No, yo
Noah’s Who would’ve thought that I would fall for the princess? Scratch that. The first question should be, who would’ve thought that I was the missing son of King Ricardo and Queen Josephine? I know it’s hard to take in, but I felt like time was going too fast. I knew that Ruthy was in love with someone else, but it seems like it was something that would fall in ruins and Ruthy knew that. She tried to fight for it, she tried to sacrifice for it, but she couldn’t do it. She was refused. My only intention was to watch, support, and protect her from the sideline, but I was wrong. I didn’t want to remain as a friend, I wanted Ruthy to notice me and accept me. We had a rough start, a troublesome meeting even, but it was pure and joyous. We were happy, not thinking of the trouble it may bring, we were just happy. Every time I look into her eyes, it was always full of hope and beauty, but now, it felt like she was being torn apart. I couldn’t just stand the
“Ruthy! Get up!” I was woken up by endless shaking that I thought there was an earthquake happening. I opened my eyes and it was Althea. I couldn’t get myself to sleep last night because I was afraid they would already be gone. Good thing Althea’s still here waking me up. “We’re leaving! Bid us goodbye!” I got up and looked at her. They are leaving already. She was already ready and dressed. I grabbed my robe and brushed my hair. “W-what? So soon?” I told her, flustered. What time of day is it even? The sun was shining so brightly, I’m guessing it’s still early in the morning. “It doesn’t matter. Come on now!” she said then pulled me out of my room. I almost forgot to wear my sandals since she was really eager to get me out. I clenched my chest as Althea continued to pull my hand. I didn’t even get to say goodbye to Noah? I know that we should forget our ties now and move on with our lives, but I still can’t bring myself to just let go and for
This may be the decision I will regret, but I know to myself that this is what my country deserves. A rightful relationship, a rightful marriage. A true born princess, and a true born prince. I don’t exactly hate Thomas, it’s just that I didn’t really think of him as my partner not until now. He’s smart, brave, and decent, much like a perfect prince, but he has an attitude. An attitude that he doesn’t show to other people except me and Althea. I found him sitting by the bench beside a fountain, so I slowly approached him. Before I went to the garden, I had my maids retouch my face and lessen the puffiness of my eyes. “I heard you’ve been avoiding people,” I softly said as I approached him. He was looking at the sky with his shoulders resting on the bench. He chuckled and sat straight. “Just not my day, I guess,” he replied in a lame and boring tone. He’s obviously hiding something. I sat beside him and crossed my arms. “You can’t hide anything from m
I felt my body shake and how my vision suddenly blacked out. I think I almost fell, but I felt Angelo’s hand on my shoulder. I could see that he was serious with what he said, but still, I never imagined in our relationship that those words would come from his mouth. He was the hopeful and most patient in our relationship. He held on to this little fire between us we called ‘love’, and he never questioned my decisions for us. Now, I think he mustered all his strength and time to make this decision, to finally tell me what needed to be done. “Angelo..I-why?” I softly asked. I held his hand on my shoulder and carefully caressed his fingers. I don’t understand him. I don’t understand where this is all coming from. I waited for him and I remained hopeful too. I prayed for him, every day. I prayed that he won’t be taken away from me. I prayed that we would get the future that we wanted. I prayed for my life to start over, with him. “Since then, I was always in love with y
It was almost time for lunch and we all headed to the Dining Hall with Noah, but he wanted to excuse himself first because he wanted to work in the kitchen. Queen Josephine wanted to eat with Noah, but he refused at first saying that he still worked for us since it was his job. Ford, who I saw a while ago, was no where to be found in the kitchen. I didn’t know if he was angry or sad, but I only had a glimpse of his face and I couldn’t really see his expression. “Noah, you don’t have to work anymore. You’re a prince,” I told him as he continues to arrange the food at the counter. “It still doesn’t fit right with me. I can’t just adjust that quickly,” he said, focusing on the counter. He was still wearing his apron and hat, although King Ricardo already ordered clothes to be brought to his room. His room is actually moved to the second floor beside their room, but he didn’t want to move just yet. I sighed and watched him. “What’s wrong?” I asked. He washed his
I held my hands tightly as I stood beside Mom who was holding the letter. My father and King Ricardo finally arrived, and they looked at Mom with curious faces. The Queen doesn’t usually summon us for a meeting, let alone a sudden one. Queen Josephine then arrived with Althea and Thomas who both looked at me with curious faces as well. My expression was nervous than ever, and it still might be obvious that I cried. Keith walked beside me and poked my back. “What’s this about?” he curiously asked. I remained quiet and just smiled at him. Finally, Mom took a few steps forward to get their attention. She took a few deep breaths and tried her best not to make her voice shake from the incoming tears. My Dad noticed this which made him uncomfortable. I could see the uneasiness in his eyes and stance. “My daughter, Ruthy, approached me the other day to ask for my help. I understood right away why she approached me out of all people. It was a matter that involved the family
Ruthy’s I do think I’ve been unfair to myself lately. Ever since Mom found out about me and Angelo, all I’ve been thinking is “be true to yourself” and “don’t hide your feelings anymore”, but I feel like I’ve done everything but that. I kept denying things from myself, I kept hiding my true feelings. I don’t know what to feel anymore. Rather, I don’t know what I’m supposed to feel anymore. Last night, I felt so uneasy and empty. I couldn’t fall asleep for almost three hours. At first, I just closed my eyes and emptied my mind, but I failed to put myself to sleep. I ended up opening my window and sitting on the mini sofa staring at the moon. When I woke up, I laid on my bed for 20 minutes before standing up. I just cuddled my pillow and wrapped myself with my comforter. I changed for breakfast and headed out my room. Saint was outside, waiting to accompany me. “Are you feeling alright, Your Highness?” Saint asked as we started walking down the
