Madeleine's heartbeat increased, a horrible scream erupting from within her lips as she jolted awake from a nightmare where her Tate was dying all over again, right before she got caught and raped by those disgusting scavengers.

Her breath came out in short and laboured pants, feeling her skin sticky and damp with sweat as her eyelids fluttered for a few moments, adjusting to the bright light coming from above.

An explosion of white greeted her as soon as she looked around, taking in the bare white walls, apart from the small round table and single bed she was sitting on, ultimately noticing the fourth wall was actually mirror-made as she caught herself staring at her own reflection, only now noticing what she was wearing.

She was only dressed in a simple white tank top and a pair of white cotton underwear instead of wearing her raggedy jeans and hoodie like she were in those last awake moments, the thought of that alien undressing her making her shudder unpleasantly.

Slowly and hesitantly, she approached the mirror wall and inspected her appearance into it, noticing that besides the fact that she was covered in small bruises and tiny cuts, her hair and body was actually clean, for the first time in years.

She stared at her unevenly cut hair for a moment, reminiscing the day Tate tried to give her a nice and decent haircut but ended up turning it into a wild, dark brown mess instead.

She broke into an audible sob at the thought of her Tate, that horrible image of him motionlessly dangling into their Cammie now pushing to the front of her mind again.

She wiped her wet cheeks with the back of her hand and started searching for a door or any kind of exit out of this stupid room, her heart-rate increasing as soon as she realized that there wasn't any.

Breathing faster and faster, she helplessly turned around like a cornered prey, panic settling into her body as she suddenly felt so trapped, effectively suffocating.

"NOOO!"

She screamed from the top of her lungs, pulling at the roots of her hair, unaware of the audience present right behind that mirror wall.

"Okay, let's not make our guest go crazy from the very first day," Dr. Nasri commented as she watched the girl go into a full-blown panic attack, Dr. Nazarov and the BloodHound remaining completely silent as they watched. Well, not that the latter would ever say anything. Hell, they weren't even sure if he could even speak since they had never heard a BloodHound speak before.

Dr. Nasri grabbed the tray of food sitting on a table nearby and went to touch the sensor and open the otherwise invisible door leading to Madeleine's room, abruptly interrupting her from her mad crying.

The girl blankly stared as she watched the woman wearing a white coat enter the room through a some sort of invisible glass door, holding a tray of what appeared to be food.

She warily stared at her, choosing to take a few defensive steps back. She didn't know what to expect after all. Hell, she didn't even know why she was here in the first place.

"Hi, how are you feeling today?" Dr. Nasri asked her in a kind and calm manner as she placed the tray of food over the small round table.

"Who are you? What do you want from me?" The girl immediately fired back as she climbed over the bed like some feral cat.

"My name is Neylani Nasri," The woman answered back, expressing a small smile.

"What's your name?" She asked the girl.

"M-Madeleine Cross," The girl hesitantly answered, shifting her gaze between the young woman and the tray of food.

"Are you hungry, Madeleine?" Dr. Nasri asked, noticing the way the girl's large blue eyes shifted between her and the tray.

The girl avoided to answer as she most definitely didn't trust her.

What if they drugged her or worse like poisoning her?

"Why am I here? What do you want from me?" She pressed yet again, not failing to notice the way the young woman’s dark gaze shifted uncomfortably before she expressed that stupid fake smile again.

“Everything will be alright, Madeleine. We just need a few samples from your blood for the cure. That’s all. We still haven’t developed the right formula since we couldn’t find the perfect candidate before. But now that you’re here, I think we might have a chance!”

“What? B-but I’m not-“

“Yes you are honey. You are a Negative. Congratulations!” The young doctor cut her off before she could even finish her sentence, giving her another idiotic smile before she hurried and exited the room, once again leaving her all alone, completely shocked.

Dr. Nasri sat right next to the sterile white countertop, taking notes as she observed on the screen the reaction between a chemical compound and a small Negative blood sample while the BloodHound stood in his usual spot, frozen like a statue and arm at ready, since he was also her designated guardian. The habitual silence stretching through the lab got mildly interrupted as the small hissing sound of the glass door sliding open tore through, indicating that someone has entered. The BloodHound remained unmoving as Dr. Nazarov stormed inside, wearing an unsatisfied frown plastered over his juvenile features."She is still not impregnated yet..." He informed his colleague with a sigh, running a hand through his blonde locks in utter frustration."What? How?" Madeleine swore that she could feel the room spinning with her, tumbling upside down over and over again as she pushed her chair back and wobbly rose up to her feet, James’ features blurring from time to time as she watched him peer right back at her with an equally tired frown.“So...do you mind if we crash here for a little while? I mean just until we figure out what to do and where we could head to next,” She sweetly said with that nice smile still plastered over her lips, looking down at him with a twinge of hope.“Sure,” The young man shrugged in reply, mildly yawning as that strong alcohol coursing through his system had already started to wear him down, making him feel so sleepy and lethargic. That hand holding up his chin wavered just a little bit, destabilizing his position and making him stumble forward, almost on the verge of face-planting on the dining table as he managed to straighten himself back up at the very last moment, his gaze droopy and barely focusing as he looke

“Oh my god, that is pretty fucked-up!” James exclaimed with revulsion and sadness after everything Madeleine had told him about the BloodHounds and everything they had to endure back in those facilities, day by day whilst the humans roamed the streets mostly free and wild, completely clueless.“Yeah, I know,” She agreed with a sad look of her own, watching him pour himself and her another shot of vodka.“What about your lady friend? What is her deal?” He asked after a moment, his blue eyes straying from Madeleine for just a second, to give the strange and incredibly hot chick a quick glance, observing her as she aimlessly trudged around through his living room.“You wouldn’t believe me if I told you,”His interest only piqued at the sound of Madeleine’s reply, his brow raising as he looked back at her.“Try me,”She quickly donned down the glass of vodka first, the young male mimicking her actions as he closely watched her, eager for an answer.“She’s actually a martian,”“What? We landed in a cornfield,” Madeleine answered from right behind her as she closely followed, lips curled up into a joyous smile as she watched Meoni take her sweet time to discover and accustom herself with her new surroundings.“And what is this?” She soon asked again as a gentle breeze threaded through her black locks and caressed her skin, making her close her eyes for a moment and take a deep breath, visibly entranced by the new feeling.“The wind,” Madeleine a
