Kirou was currently quite a good distance away from the area where he had killed off the members of the Fiend Guild. At the moment, he was looking over the skills he had created during the conflict with his brows furrowed as he continued his journey.
'It wasn't intentional but I seemed to have made something quite dangerous. I wonder why the system recognized it as a skill even though I only used it once?' These were Kirou's thoughts as he looked over his newly created skills, especially <Demonic Gaze>.
Skill: Mana Control
Skill Level: 1/3
Rank: A (S)
Cost: N/A
Skill Creator/Generator: Kirou
Description: This skill allows the user to freely control the flow of mana/mp within their body. Said mana/mp can also be infused into weapons, allowing the user to manipulate them at will. At first, the movement of mana/mp within the infused weapon will be sluggish but over time and with constant use, the user will be able to form a connection with the weapon, creating a weapon manipulation skill as a result.
Skill: Chain Manipulation
Skill Level: 1(Max)
Rank: A
Cost: 75% MP (One-time infusion)
Skill Creator/Generator: Kirou
Description: This skill allows the user to manipulate chains at will after MP infusion. After the mana/mp infusion, a connection will form between the user and the chain, allowing the user to manipulate the chain at will. Should the infused chain be destroyed, the user will suffer a 20% reduction in stats for 3 days so it is highly recommended that mana infusion be used with caution, preferably on specially created chains.
Skill: Demonic Gaze
Skill Level: 1/5
Rank: S
Cost: N/A
Skill Creator/Generator: Kirou
Description: This skill allows the user to induce extreme terror into a target, dropping their stats by 99% as a result. This skill will only activate on weaker targets or beings under the confusion, berserk, or fear status effects. Should the user attempt to use the skill on stronger targets, there's a 90% chance of failure and a 50% chance of the user suffering a backlash from the skill, dropping their stats by 75% for a few minutes so it is highly advised that this skill be used with caution.
Looking over the descriptions set for each skill by the system, Kirou was left feeling helpless. This was the first time Kirou had seen a skill come with a caution warning for their usage. In the end, he could only chalk it up to the very nature of the skills being so strange that even the system had to put a few limiters and warnings in place.
After contemplating the skills and their warnings for a while, Kirou decided to test out his skills on any monsters he happens to come across on his journey.
'I won't go out of my way to look for targets, but should I run into any, they will be made into the perfect test dummies for these skills.' As Kirou thought this, he took out a piece of the chain from earlier and had it wrap around his waist like a belt.
*********************
According to his map, Kirou was currently a few kilometers away from Thousand Wood Village. At the moment, he was currently locked in battle with a few boar monsters.
Monster: Fierce Boar (Male)
Level: 15
HP: 5500
Skills: Wild charge, bite, stomp, tusk blow
Monster: Fierce Boar (Female)
Level: 17
HP: 7500
Skills: Wild charge, bite, stomp, tusk blow
It wasn't intentional but Kirou crossed paths with a few fierce boars while on his journey. The level difference between them made him question if he should spend a few minutes fighting them, even while testing out his new skills but that thought process became mute when the boars attacked him. At the moment he was dodging the attacks of another set he had unluckily run into.
"And to think, I was looking for a few target dummies earlier and now I'm running into a full herd of them. I guess that phrase would prove quite accurate in this situation, 'Be careful what you wish for.' Let's hope these are the last of them until I get to Thousand Wood Village." Kirou said this to himself as he narrowly dodged a wild charge from the female fierce boar, causing it to ram into the big tree directly behind him and being stuck. Following this action, Kirou willed his chain to wrap around the big tree and the female fierce boar's neck to prevent it from escaping before he turned around to aid his clone in taking down the male.
Due to the over two dozen meters of distance, Kirou decided to concentrate his mp towards his feet which resulted in a sharp increase in his speed. Due to constraints, Kirou did his best to limit his speed to double his normal movement speed as his body currently could not support it if he went faster. Even then, that was enough to allow Kirou to close the gap with the male fierce boar which was currently distracted by his clone, allowing him to get off a sneak attack combo using ambush and cutthroat.

This sneak attack was then followed by the skills stunning blow, kidney shot, and wrapped up with the triple strike skill.

Cycling through those skills caused Kirou's attack to remove a bit more than half of the male boar's health, especially since the bleed effect from the triple strike had activated. With the damage done to it by the clone earlier, the boar was now on its last legs, completely unable to defend itself as it was currently under the effects of both fear and stun. Before either status effect could expire, Kirou and his clone already finished off the pitiful male fierce boar and turned their sights back to the female.
Now that he was left with just one target, a completely bound target, Kirou had his clone try and use his recently created skills. The results had Kirou release a breath of helplessness. While the clone was able to use <Mana Control>, it was unable to use <Chain Manipulation>. The results for the <Demonic Gaze> skill was even worse. Not only did the skill fail to trigger on the female fierce boar, but the clone was also unlucky enough to be hit with the backlash from the skill, resulting in its stats dropping by 75%. Not only that, with the clone having to get close to use the <Demonic Gaze> skill on the female fierce boar, it saw when the clone was afflicted with the backlash and used all its strength to break free from the tree and impale the clone with its tusk blow skill.
Kirou could only shake his head out of helplessness when he saw the results of the test. It seems the system wasn't joking when it said there was a 90% chance of failure when the skill is used on stronger targets, not under those three status effects.
"I better use that skill with caution in the future. This clone is a dangerous reminder of that." That was what Kirou said to himself before shaking his head free of distracting thoughts. He then willed the chain to remove itself from the fallen tree and completely tie up the now free female fierce boar looking to charge and impale Kirou. After the boar was firmly rooted in place, Kirou then proceeded to test out concentrate his mp into his hands and struck the female fierce boar with a few regular attacks.

'Looks like this skill has quite the versatility, depending on where the mana is concentrated. Since I gain additional strength when it's used in my hands and speed for my legs, it's probably safe to assume it could increase my defense when concentrated on areas about to be hit. That being said, I have no plans on testing that out with this fiery beast at the moment,' was Kirou's thoughts as he looked at the bound female fierce boar giving him a menacing look at the moment. 'It's probably safe to assume this beast would fight me to the death if I gave it the chance.'
Shaking his head free of those thoughts, Kirou proceeded to finish off the chained up fierce boar. When he was done, Kirou willed the chains to release the corpse and wrap itself around his waist. Satisfied, Kirou then took out some tools and proceeded to harvest the usable materials from both fierce boar corpses.
These tools were made specifically to harvest materials from monster corpses. So far, Kirou had been making do with the knife Bladesmith had given him for a weapon back when he started but he quickly realized that it was a mistake to not have the proper tools on him. While he could still harvest the materials quite well with the knife, his constant use of the knife caused its blade to dull/the weapon to lose durability a whole lot faster than it should. This often resulted in him not using it in combat, except when dealing a finishing blow, following which he would harvest the corpses and put it away. Now that he had proper tools to use, he would have a much easier time harvesting materials and doing so in a more efficient manner.
By the time he was done dissecting both corpses, Kirou was greeted with a surprise.
[You have received the following: excellent quality boar fur x8, 5 lbs of excellent quality boar meat x4, excellent quality boar tusks x 4, 10 silver, Boar's Fang (Uncommon).]
This was Kirou's first time receiving an item, a weapon of all things, during his harvesting. It seems like the system hadn't allowed him to receive any earlier due to him only making use of the knife to harvest his kills.
Weapon: Boar's Fang (Knife)
Weapon Level: 15
Weapon Type: Uncommon
Weapon Attack: 15-35
+10 attack
+5% chance of landing an armor-penetrating attack
Description: This is a weapon made from a female fierce boar's tusk. It's said to be extremely sharp for its level.
Looking over the details for the weapon, Kirou raised an eyebrow when he looked at the description. He was positive he harvested both tusks from the female fierce boar but he still found an item made from it.
'I guess this is one of those weird mechanics for the game. If I had to guess, this must be how others get their weapons and armor in-game. At least, early on, like now.' Kirou could only shake his head when those thoughts flashed by as he was pitying the other players in the game.
If the rest of the player base were to hear his thoughts, they might just drown him in curses and spittle, considering he was able to make sure strong weapons and still be able to find weapons from monsters when they are struggling to do so regularly.
"I guess I'll have to wait until level 15 to test it out. Worst case scenario, I'll just throw it into the harvesting kit with the other specialized tools." Kirou said this out loud as he got up and continued on his trip to Thousand Wood Village, which was less than a few kilometers away from his current location. If there was another player nearby to hear his parting words, they might have tried to gut him with a rusty knife.
*************************
Twenty minutes later, Kirou was currently standing before a vast group of trees. Looking at his map, he could confirm that he was indeed at the entrance to Thousand Wood Village, but all that he saw was a cluster of trees with no means of entry visible.
He was going to search the surrounding area to see if he could find an elven player when he suddenly received a system message.
[Player Reya is requesting a telepathic call. Accept: Y/N?]
Seeing the message, Kirou was immediately reminded of the female elf he met on the previous day that was good at harvesting plants. He immediately accepted the telepathic call.
[Player Reya: Hello, Mr. Wolf. Are you currently busy? I am currently in need of help and you are the best person for the job that I know.]
"Hello, Ms. Elf. That would depend on the type of job itself and where I would need to go. I'm currently a good distance away from Elderwood Village so I won't be able to help if it's near there." Kirou responded to her while heading over to a nearby tree to sit down.
[Player Reya: Really? Where are you then?]
"I'm currently outside the entrance of Thousand Wood Village, wondering how I should go about getting inside," Kirou helplessly responded to her question.
[Player Reya: Really? That's great. I'll meet you there in five minutes.] Following those words, Reya, the elf terminated the call. Kirou could only chuckle in response to her hasty actions.
'Seems like she's excited. I wonder what she needs my help with?' This was Kirou's last thought before releasing a sigh and entering a meditative state underneath the tree, waiting for Reya to show up.
Five minutes later, Kirou heard a sound coming from above him so he opened his eyes and looked up, only to be greeted to the sight of a certain elf heading his way along the tree branches. From his relative angle towards her, should he focus his eyesight, he would be able to see her body in vivid detail so he closed his eyes and waited until she landed in front of him. Though he wasn't a gentleman, he also wasn't a young boy in his adolescence so he wouldn't take advantage of seeing the girl's underwear in this manner. It's one thing if she willingly shows him but it's another to look at it like this.
Around twenty seconds later Reya finally landed in front of him. From the looks of it, she probably ran from the other side of the elven village to get here.
"Sorry I took so long. I was in the apothecary's hut when I called, on the other side of the village," spoke Reya while catching her breath, confirming Kirou's deductions.
"No worries. It wasn't all that long, to begin with. Besides, I planned to ask you to show me the way around the village when you arrived so it wouldn't be polite to complain over such trivialities." Kirou nodded his head in understanding at Reya when he said this.
Finally catching her breath, Reya looked at Kirou with a curious expression before asking, "Anyways, what brings you to Thousand Wood Village?"
"I got a quest from my village head to deliver a package, plus you told me about your method of harvesting plants being unique to this village so I decided to make a milk run," Kirou extended his hands in a gesture as if suggesting for Reya to lead the way.
Picking up on the gesture, Reya turned in the direction she came from and spoke, "Ok then. Follow me. I'll lead you to the true entrance of Thousand Wood Village." Following this, Reya led Kirou to the forest where they found a set of ladders and proceeded to climb up.
After climbing all the way to the top, Kirou was greeted to the sight of an entire village hidden within the high trees of the forest. Even Kirou, with all his experiences from his past life, couldn't stop the exclamation that escaped his mouth.
"Beautiful!"
Seeing his reaction, a smile formed on Reya's lips before she spoke, "Welcome to Thousand Wood Village, Mr. Wolf."
After receiving Reya's warm welcome to Thousand Wood Village, Kirou finally regained control of himself and started examining the village in as much detail as possible. Just like Elderwood Village, Thousand Wood Village was built amongst nature but that's where the similarities between the two ended.Elderwood Village, while it could be said to be built amongst nature, its inhabitants mainly focusing on hunting, blacksmithing, and carpentry. This causes the village to take on the look of a rural farming village from a simple glance.Thousand Wood Village, however, is a village within the treetops. The elven inhabitants don't cut down trees and make houses from the reshaped parts but instead hollow out trees in certain areas and turn them into homes and other forms of buildings as is. The leftover materials from this hollowing out process are then used to make a multitude of things, such as the pathways and bridges
As Kirou entered the treehouse, his eyes surveyed the interior of the room. The walls of the room were adorned with many decorations made from wood and plant-like materials. On one wall hung a longbow with a case filled with many uniquely decorated arrows. On another was an open window showcasing the fantasy view of the village in its entirety. As for the remaining wall, when Kirou's eyes moved to that direction, he was greeted by the sight of an elf sitting in, in his opinion, a rocking chair. The elf in the rocking chair didn't look that old at first glance, but upon closer inspection, Kirou was able to see the signs of age present on the elf's body. Though his body was well maintained, Kirou could still see slight wrinkles on the face of the elf. If Kirou had to guess, this elf sitting before him was probably a few centuries old. Having observed enough for the moment, Kirou went up and greeted the elf in the rocking chair."Greetings Elde
Kirou and Reya were currently a few kilometers deep within the forests surrounding Thousand Wood Village. While Kirou was currently leaning on a tree, Reya was busy fighting a few Forest Wolves.Monster: Forest WolfLevel: 13HP: 2790Skills: Bite, tackle, leap, pack callAs an archer, it wasn't easy for Reya to fight the wolf in close quarters, much less three of them but she seemed to be doing quite good on her own.[-70][-65]Damage values kept appearing above the heads of the forest wolves. While that was going on, Reya was rolling to the side to dodge the attack of the third wolf lunging at her. So far, Reya was doing quite well in the fight. The reason Kirou wasn't involved in this fight at the moment was that Reya asked that he sit it out. She wanted to test out manual mode combat on her own and wouldn't take no for an answer. As a compromise,
Once again, Kirou was staring at the roof of his apartment. This was the second day in a row he was doing this. Although he was good at adapting to situations, Kirou still felt it weird for him to wake up in his room, completely refreshed, while he spent the entire night, in-game, hunting monsters, doing quests, and teaching Reya how to work in manual mode.'I guess this is one of those perks of being able to play a game that puts my body to rest while I'm active in-game,' thought Kirou as he released a deep breath.Kirou remained in bed for another five minutes before getting up and starting a series of weird movements. Each movement stretched his limbs as far as they could go and he kept this up for a good ten minutes before he stopped, completely covered in sweat.'This body truly is too weak. Just doing these joint stretches has already exhausted me to this degree. It seems like it'll take a while before I can use my
While Secretary Yin was heading back to the meeting room, she failed to notice a certain security guard watching her from a few feet away. She passed by him without even noticing his presence and said person caught the ghost of a smile that graced her face at that moment. Naturally, this security guard was Kirou.'Looks like there truly was something important in those items I returned. Let's hope she'll pay more attention to her surroundings from now on.' Those were Kirou's thoughts as he turned around and walked away, to continue his current rounds for the building.************************It was already 1 pm when Kirou finally went on his lunch break. After passing by Secretary Yin that morning, Kirou spent the rest of his time, focusing on work. Kirou was currently on his way home via the subway. He had a smile on his face as he thought back to the events that took place during the day, especially when he passed by that familiar girl.'Hmm, I wonder if I should mess with her later or not. It would be really funny, but I don't wanna blow my cover just yet. Decisions, decisions.' These were Kirou's thoughts while standing next to the doors on one side of the train. While lost in thought, a few threads were dancing around his right hand.Like that, Kirou spent the next twenty minutes on the train. When he arrived at his station, Kirou got off the train and started making his way out. As he was walking out, however, he noticed from the corner of his eye that someone was heading towards him. Kirou recognized this person as the one who bumped into Secretary Yin earlier that morning. It seems like he noticed that Kirou was the one who took back the items he stole and now he wanted to get e
Yin Jia Rong or rather, Navi, was currently in the cottage of the apothecary for Thousand Wood Village. She came here to procure a few plant harvesting kits for her guild. While she was waiting in line, she thought back to that Lycan she passed at the entrance of the village. She wasn't sure why, but he felt vaguely familiar to her.'I wonder where I've seen him before. I highly doubt I would recognize the wrong person when my mind is nagging me so much.' This was Navi's thoughts as she finally got to the counter to make her purchases."Hello, Elder. I would like to purchase a few plant harvesting kits," said Navi as she spoke politely to the apothecary behind the counter."I'm sorry, young miss. It's a rule of the village that each person is only capable of purchasing one plant harvesting kit. I can sell the one to you if you like," replied the elf behind the counter to dark elf Navi.Hearing his wo

It's been a few days since Kirou returned to the with his new residents. During this time, both old and new residents worked hard to turn the shallow and empty area into a proper village. With the initial houses Kirou had built as a base and starting area, the village extended a bit into the forest, with the goal being to recover land for both farming and extending the village even further in the future. Unsurprisingly, all residents decided to keep living above ground, leaving the passage that led to the pier being the only path they trod. In contrast, the remaining floors were left for Kirou's purposes after all the excavation work was complete. Speaking of the excavation work, Kirou was given a surprise earlier that day when he explored the two floors situated above the pier and below the village on the surface. It seems that during the time that he was away from the village and holed up in the pier area after returning, his residents had come together to fully ex
The Garuda player and his squad from the guild have finally returned to the Seaside Village. Unlike the trip to the pirate hideout that took 5 hours, the return trip only needed half that time. The Garuda player mainly returned here instead of continuing his hunt or returning to his guild as he was curious to see the results of that quest he never got the chance to finish. He was also interested in seeing if he would be able to meet that strange Lycan player he had initially pursued. Unfortunately, his second wish would go unanswered for quite a time. Upon entering the location of the Seaside Village, what greeted the Garuda player and his squad was essentially a ghost town. The village lacked any sign of life and it looked like its inhabitants were in quite the rush to leave. At this point, one squad member, a Lycan, spoke up, "Looks like these guys wasted no time in making themselves scarce as if wanting to avoid us like the plague. What say you now, Boss?" The G
Returning to the moment the Garuda player and his squad had entered the Drarven Village turned pirate camp, Kirou and the former captives have now arrived at the shores of the Seaside Village. He had already guessed what had happened when he found the Village Head's son as one of the captives on the pirate ship, but seeing the current state of the Seaside Village forced a deep sigh out of Kirou's mouth. Even then, he still had a job to finish, so he shook his mind free of their random thoughts and focused on what was ahead of him. Seeing the pirate ships coming close, the remainder of the village was once again arming themselves for combat. Sadly, there were a lot fewer able-bodied persons capable of fighting this time, so morale was at its absolute worst for the villagers. Even the Village Head, the fiercest fighter in the village in the previous bout, was now struggling to raise his weapon in the face of the returning pirate crew. From a glance, it was quite apparent to these vill
Kirou was currently making his way back to the Seaside Village via the ships used by the pirates. He needed a secure way to transport all the women and children that were captured back to the village without injury and in a timely manner, and .... it's not like the previous owners had much use for these ships anymore. As for controlling and navigating the ships themselves, Kirou had no part in that as he lacked the necessary experience and skill needed to do so. Instead, this job was taken over by the captured women that were previously held captive in the resting area of the camp by those pirates. Apparently, they were part of a crew of sailors that got captured at sea. Their ship had recently gone through a bad storm and most of the crew got injured in the process. Those that survived the storm thought that things would be fine when another ship passed by in their time of need. Sadly, their hopes were dashed as this ship was filled with pirates. When the pirates found and boarded
While all that was going down back at the Seaside Village, Kirou was already making his moves in the enemy stronghold. It's now been fifteen minutes since Kirou initiated his plan. Stealth and subterfuge were the game's name, and Kirou had to make severe commitments to follow through on his plans. He started out by summoning two clones, which he then sent to specific places to hide until he gave the signal. Following this, he rushed back to the cave where the kids were being kept captive. Unlike his prior visit where most of his was spent searching for their location, this time he would be able to deal with them without as much trouble. That said, he remained hidden in a dark spot while watching the actions of the captors and their captives. As he did this, he silently retrieved an item from his inventory. It was a small canister-like object that almost anyone would recognize if they saw it. Besides the main body in this cave, his clones pulled out similar objects, a few of whic
After leaving the village, Kirou has been heading northwest for roughly two hours. During this trip, he made multiple adjustments to his heading after using his skill to investigate his surroundings. The downside of this was that he had to chug down multiple potions to replenish his quickly spent [MP] after each trip. It was at this time that Kirou slowed and silenced his steps. This is because the stronghold for those human traffickers was within his sights. Having stopped behind a tree, Kirou calmed his breathing and steadied his heart rate. After doing so, he peered from behind the tree, gazing at his targets going about their business in the large base. The base itself was an abandoned seaside village that seemed to have been occupied initially by dwarfs. Along with a few lodging houses, there were a few paths dug into the hill directly behind the houses. The houses themselves were spread out and made in a style similar to inns, but the size of the windows
A few weeks have passed since Kirou had the discussion with both Cain and Jackson by the underground lake. Unlike the empty and somewhat desolate space that it was before, the underground lake was starting to look like a proper workspace for ships and people alike. More buildings had been constructed on the land area, with one side set up to properly reflect a shipyard and the other to reflect an underground harbor for ships. As for the water, multiple ports had been erected for both ship and civilian use. Hell, a few small boats were already making use of the new docking facilities that were recently created. As for how this happened, Kirou could only say that he got extremely lucky with his excursions outside the <Phantom Palace>. *******Flashback******* *Three days after the discussion with Jackson and Cain* Kirou was currently farming mining resources points.
It's been a few hours since Kirou and his group, along with the recent additions, returned to the <Phantom Palace>. Kirou only left some instructions with the girls and Mistaken Fox for the former bandits while he invited both Jackson and Cain to follow him to the underground pier. The trio was currently sitting around a small table, Kirou drinking some tea while both Jackson and Cain stared at him in confusion. This went on for a few minutes before Jackson spoke up. "Young Master, would you mind explaining why you've brought both of us down here?" Cain maintained his silence, but he gave a slight nod in agreement to Jackson's words. Kirou only glanced at the duo for a few moments before turning his eyes to the waters of his underground port. As soon as he finished his tea, Kirou spoke, "I'll be leaving for the <Beast Continent> within the next two weeks." T
Kirou and Jackson took a few minutes to work out the finer details of the <Blood Oath> that they wanted Cain to make. During this time, Cain genuinely contemplated committing suicide multiple times. The reason behind this was that neither Kirou nor Jackson bothered to lower their voices during their discussion, allowing Cain to hear all of their depraved ideas to include in the oath. The thought of escaping entered Cain's mind multiple times, only to be dismissed almost immediately. Not counting the fact that he was injured at the moment, even if he wasn't, he still had to contend with the creatures surrounding him. And even if he could somehow get through those creatures, there was still a large group he had to fight through, not to mention both Kirou and Jackson. With those thoughts in mind, Cain resigned himself to the whims of the two bastards holding him captive. Both Kirou and Jackson could see that Cai
