I didn't want this meeting. But I wouldn't be able to find the culprit of my mated being slaughtered, skulking around in the dark. We didn't know what kind of killer it was.
Vampire, Human… or other.
Pushing open the double doors, my gaze fell on my little brother.
Where I was dark haired, he was pale. My skin was olive, but his was as pale as cream. While I took after our father, he took after our beautiful mother. He also had a pension for leather, denim, and biker boots, which were on the table.“Rhayden. Boots.” He flipped me off, as usual, but the boots disappeared from the surface of the table. “Thank you.”
I turned, waiting for Marlene to enter the room behind me. Her gaze lifted to mine, and she smiled as she walked past. Every fiber in my undead being wanted to throw Rhayden out of the room and have Marley on the table behind me.
She had been gone for two weeks. Two weeks without her warmth against me, without waking up from hibernate with her by my side. The moment we had had in the shower earlier hadn't even come close to sating my need of her, but I would have to put it on the back burner. Instead of giving into my desires for the petite woman, I closed my eyes, composed myself and closed the library doors with a heavy thud.Turning to the pair at the table, it did not escape my attention, the tension between them.
My brother and my hunter had never really liked each other. Rhayden thought she was more trouble than she was worth, Marley thought he was a pompous windbag with a bad attitude.
This mission would do them a world of good.
They might get along for once.Walking the length of the library, I sat and looked at Rhayden. “The file?”
While I am used to my brother’s moods, what surprised me was the venom in his gaze as he shoved the folder into my hand. I pushed the look to the back of my mind and turned to Marley. Her face was flushed, color coming to her cheeks, and I hesitated.
Clearing my throat, she looked up at me and I handed her the folder. Marley took it and opened it, the color which had crept along her cheeks only moments earlier, now retreating. She opened her mouth, her voice quiet. “How many?”
“Including the ones you found tonight, the total now is ten pairs. Tony and Maddison found another pair on the other side of town about an hour after the ones you found. Twenty of my mated have now been slaughtered.” She lifted her gaze to mine, sadness wallowing in those dark orbs.
“I’m sorry, Abe.”
The apology took me by surprise, and I blinked. “Don’t be sorry, just find out who did it.”
Confusion replaced sadness and she blinked. “Excuse me?”
“Abe.” I held up my hand, silencing my brother, without looking at him.
“I need you to do this, Marley. We cannot hunt during the day and that is going to be the time you are going to find them. My mansion holds the heads of the Vampire Federation in three days. They will bring their senior mated pairs with them.”I looked at my brother, noting the anger in his gaze, his eyes fading to copper. He did not seem impressed I was sending Marley off to find a vampire killer.
No doubt he knew of the danger I was placing her in.Well, he was going to be even less than impressed in a moment.
I looked back to Marley. “I do not want the meeting to become a slaughterhouse. So, you and Rhayden will find this killer and bring them down.”
Silence met me and I sat back and waited, knowing exactly who was going to explode first. “You want me to babysit your human?”
Rolling my eyes, I looked at my brother. “There is no one I trust more in my coven to keep her safe.”
The look which passed over his pale features was murderous to say the least and I ignored him. Turning to Marley, I watched as confusion flitted across her pretty features. “But he can’t hunt during the day.”
I sat forward, resting my elbows on the table and looked at her. “No, but if you come across this killer during the night, at least I know Rhayden will be there to protect you.”
Marlene’s eyebrows furrowed together, and she chewed on her bottom lip for a moment before she looked at me again. “And when we do find them? Then what? Do you want them bought back, or do you want them killed?”
I hadn't thought that far ahead, and I leaned back in the huge chair. “If you have the means to bring them back to me in person, then I will be able to make an example of them to the Vampire Nation.”
“You want to show them off.” Rhayden spat and again, I ignored him. But I knew there were only so many times I could do that before he lost his shit with me completely.
“If you can’t bring them back in acceptable condition, then I completely understand, as long as the deaths of my mated are stopped.” While Marley and Rhayden mulled over what I said, my hand slipped into my pocket and bought out the envelope. “Your payment.”
Pushing the envelope to her, Marley looked down at it, before picking it up and she opened it. The color drained from her face and her gaze lifted to mine. “Ten million dollars?”
“Is it not enough?” If she wanted me to pay her ten times that amount, I would, just to rid the Vampire Nation of this killer. “I can pay you more.”
“N-No, it’s more than enough, Absinthe,” She stuttered, her voice lowering. “I’ve barely touched the two million I’ve earned in the last two years working for you.”
“Well, just think, if you ever leave my employ, you will be adequately compensated for what you have done.”
A snort from my left and I turned my head.
Rhayden lifted himself from the chair and looked down at me.
“I’m going to get supplies ready.” He looked at Marley, sucking his tongue over his teeth. “Armory, in an hour. Don’t be late.”
He left; a whirl of pale hair and dark leather and I looked back to Marley. She was watching Rhayden’s departure, a flush coming to her cheeks. My head tilted to the side as she slowly looked back at me. “Uh, I’d better get ready. I know how pedantic he can get about being on time.”
She lifted herself, taking the cheque and the folder with her and closed the door of the library behind her.Perched in the leather chair, I stared at the heavy doors and rationalized my own thoughts, while ignoring others.
This was the only way to do this. Send Marley, with Rhayden as her guard, off to find the killer. I could not go myself, not without putting my own coven at risk. Closing my eyes, I just hoped this decision would not come and bite me in the ass.“Fucking stupid ass!” I shoved clothing into my bag, not caring to fold them.Did Absinthe not know how Rhayden, and I felt about each other? I stopped for a moment. Of course, he did not know, or he would not have sent us off together. This was not going to end well. I could feel it deep in my guts. This was going to go so far sideways; it would resemble a crab walking, and then what? Shoving more clothing into the pack, I zipped it closed, as the door to my room swung open. Turning, I sucked my tongue over my teeth at the man who was leaning against the doorjamb. “I thought you were getting things ready.”Rhayden's gaze raked up and down my body, “Already done, Mars. Just waiting on your slow, but delicious ass.”My eyes rolled and I picked up my heavy pack, throwing it at him.The thought it would hit him in his pretty face was dashed when he caught it and let it hang by his side. “Is that all you are taking? Need anything else? Like the kitchen sink perhaps?”“Fuck you.”“Not li
Of all the dumb missions Absinthe could have sent me on... this was the dumbest of all. He could have sent me to our cousin, I could have had some fun with the girls he liked to play with. Or I could have gone chasing around after some idiot official, who was surveying the mansion's security, for reports back to the big-big boss... But no... my perfect big brother had to go and send me off with Marlene Brennan... The one woman in this whole world, I would happily sink my fangs into, even if it meant death. Surely sitting in with the eldres earlier had scrambled the idiot's brain. Maybe he needed some sun... The last thought had me chuckling, then grimacing. Yes, it was funny... but at the same time, it wasn't. I wouldn't hurt a hair on my brother's head. We'd been through so much, I had been a loyal soldier for him for almost two-hundred and fifty years. That wouldn't change... even for Mars.Speaking of the beautiful human hunter...I knew she was outside the armory before she'd
The Alfa’s V8 engine was purring, and I was finally used to Rhayden’s erratic driving. He sped past every car, racing who he could, with a glee only shared with himself. He'd chuckle every now and then at people's attempts to race the Alfa, making me roll my eyes. My knuckles were no longer white, and my heart rate was finally at a comfortable level, but I couldn't watch the scenery though… he was driving too damned fast.“Another ten minutes of driving, then I’m going to have to find shelter.”I looked over to him as his gaze slipped past me, and I turned my head, seeing the pale tinge to the horizon. It will be sunrise soon. Most of what people knew of vampires was bullshit.Garlic was just a nauseating smell to them, and religious crosses did squat.Silver had a sedative effect on them, if it was in a large enough quantity and pure. But the one major thing which did affect them was the sun.It was one of the best ways to kill a vampire. But if they were safe from its rays, it sent
Holding the phone to my ear, I listened to my brother droning on the other end. My eyes rolled as he went on and on and on, about how important this mission was; for the hundredth time. Like I didn't already know that, by the fact we'd lost twenty members of our fucking coven. men and women I had practically grown up with. “I know, Abe. I am not stupid.”There was a pause, then a chuckle. “That’s—”“Don’t fucking say it.” I growled. I had always been considered the brawn of the two of us. More muscle than brains, but I was not some dickhead killing machine. I could outthink Absinthe if I wanted to, and if the idiot had listened to me in the first place, we wouldn't have twenty dead vampires, and I wouldn't be here, babysitting Marley.A waft of scent and I turned, watching my brother's hunter as she paced the room beyond the one, I was in. I had been harsh to her earlier. It was not fair the way I was treating her. I knew she could not do anything about her relationship with Abe.He
I had forgotten to grab underwear. In my haste to get away from Rhayden, and to wash the scent of his brother off me, to keep him happy I had managed to forget one of the most vital pieces of clothing. Something which would, in my mind, protect me from the creature I travelled with.Padding through the house, I kept my eye out for the vampire. I did not want him to know I was panty-less. I'd seen the way he looked at me, when I was fully clothed. Going to my bag, I rummaged through it, trying to keep my long night-shirt covering my backside. “Where the fuck are they?”I had packed at least three pairs and they all seemed to be missing...“Looking for these?”My stomach contracted as I turned. Rhayden was leaning against the doorjamb, one of my lace thongs hooked over his index finger, the other two pairs of panties, gripped in his hand. I blinked and stared at him. “Did you seriously go through my bag?”His grin widened. “Just wanted to see what kind of underwear you preferred. Wou
The scrap of lace she called panties fell to the ground with the others, as I launched myself at her. My hands gripped her face, my mouth crushing against hers and I kissed Marley deeply. Her taste was sweet, her hands scrambling for my hips, and I growled as her fingernails dug into my flesh. A soft mewl escaped her lips as my tongue drove into her mouth and her knees weakened.I laid her softly on the cold floor, my body next to hers as I buried my head against the side of her neck, her breath ragged to my ears. Marley’s back arched as my lips travelled along her neck to her ear and I moaned against her skin. “Beautiful, mortal woman…”My mouth moved down her neck, laying wet, cold kisses to her skin and her heart hammered loudly in her chest, igniting a fire within me I'd never felt before. Down over her night shirt, I teased her nipples through the fabric with my teeth, resisting the urge to unleash my fangs on her soft skin.To mark her, would be to place a target on both mine a
“Fucking cock sucking asshole!” I paced the courtyard, resisting the urge to kick Rhayden’s car as I walked past it.Fuck kicking it, I would take to it with a baseball bat if I had a chance.“Fucking prick.”It was supposed to be a kiss. Instead, the vampire had eaten me out in what I could only describe as one of the best fucking experiences of my life.My voice was coarse from yelling at the rising sun for the last hour, while Rhayden was deep within the bowels of the safe house, knocked out cold, in hibernate. All I wanted to do was go in there, drag his sorry ass outside and dance a jig while he burned in the sun.Sighing, I twisted and sank to the pavement, my legs folded underneath me. My head went to my hands, tears threatening to break through and drown me. Why was this happening to me? Surely, I could have found the killer and dealt with them on my own.I should not have been teamed up with the one vampire I could not resist. I wanted to call Abe and confess to what had hap
The brain fog which usually accompanied waking from hibernate, was not there when my eyes opened. The only thing there was... the taste of Marley on my lips. Pure ambrosia.I licked them, a fresh tingle racing through me. I had never tasted blood as sweet as hers. The one smear I had had the night before had been nothing to the gullet full I had now. I was sated. I would not need to feed tonight or even tomorrow night. Now I knew why Absinthe kept her around.Stretching, I eased myself off the hard bed in the corner of the darkened room. My night vision kicked in, the colors we vampires saw in the dark, flashing as I looked around and froze.Just outside, there was a steady thumping rhythm of a heartbeat. Deep in slumber, the heart could belong to Marley. No one else would be game enough to come down into the basement.I moved to the door and spun the wheel, opening it and stepped out into the dark. Turning my head, Marley was slumped against the wall next to the door, curled up in
“You should at least talk to him Marley.”Opening my eyes, I looked up. Absinthe was sitting on the side of the bath, his face one of worry, hair carelessly hanging over his shoulders, a curtain of dark silk.I sank lower in the tub, wanting to go under and never resurface. “No.”“I don't like the idea of you going to Vegas and Korin, without him.”“Well, he should have thought about it before he chucked tantrum. He is almost 400 years old Absinthe, not two.”“He does have temper on him. But it doesn’t mean he doesn't care. What he said, he didn’t mean a word of it. You must realize that.” Abe reached over and brushed away a tendril of hair, tucking it behind my ear. “He's never been very good at sharing, especially with me.”“Well, unless he pulls his shit together, he won't have to worry about it. That will give him more comfort, knowing he doesn't have to share me anymore.” I opened my eyes and looked up at the dark-haired vampire, seeing the concern in his green gaze. “As much as
Of course, my perfect older brother would be there, waiting for his human lover. Waiting to rub into my face, how Marley would go to him first, over me. I glared at him, as he raised an eyebrow and swept past him, but not before slamming my shoulder into his. Any other time in our lives, that would have seen him pick me up and throw me off the second story balcony onto the marble floor below, but as he had gotten older, he’d gotten softer. If only Marley had known him when we were younger, she wouldn’t have been so keen to jump into bed with him, there would have been no sex.Just bite, drain and discard.Turning toward the library, I pushed open the huge doors and strode in, throwing myself into my seat. We would sit here, playing nice, being all civil when I knew what would happen afterward. Of the moans which would escape Marlene’s mouth, because of my brother and even though I couldn’t hear them, because of the soundproofing Absinthe had installed into his room, it wouldn’t stop m
Hearing the Alfa’s engine, before seeing its sleek lines pull into the garage, did nothing, compared to the sight of the woman sitting behind the wheel of my car. It’d been three weeks since I had seen her, since I had sunk my cock into her soft pussy and my body ached with longing. She pulled the car into my parking space and switched off the engine, staring at me through the windshield for a moment. I guess she would have been trying to figure out what kind of mood I was in.Fucking horny. That’s what kind of mood I was in.Usually, I would have picked out someone from of the coven, a lone female vampire, and fucked the night away with her. But since being with Marlene Brennan, there was no one else on this planet who would take her place.Walking to the car, I opened the door and leaned down, inhaling the waft of her scent, as she turned to me. “Mars.”“Rhayden.”Even the way she said my name sent shivers through me. I stepped back, allowing the little beauty to climb from the car.
Immortal Cravings Part 2- PassionsRolling to the side, I shut off the alarm which was blaring in the early evening and lay back against the soft pillows of the hotel bed. Seven-pm and I was only just waking up—one of the perks-or downsides of working for creatures which only came out at night. For the last two years, I’ve been the sole human bounty hunter, of one Absinthe Raynes—Vampire Lord of Miami.Hunting the rogues which prayed on humans for one million dollars a year; yeah, couldn’t complain. It was the excess baggage which came with it, which was going to send me insane.I worked for Absinthe, killed rogues—but I also fucked Absinthe—well, no. He fucked me… It was a mutual fucking. And then… there was Rhayden. Absinthe’s annoying, pain in the ass, beautiful, sexy little brother… Who also fucked me.At first my feelings for Rhayden had been kept secret from both brothers, lest I incur the wrath of Absinthe and put Rhayden in danger too. But when our last mission had us working
It would be sunrise in an hour... where would she sleep? In the arms of my brother? Would my Marley come back to me?Had I lost her to him? While Mozart played loudly to drown out the sounds of my brother and Marley having sex, it didn’t drown out the visions which came to mind. Was he a gentle lover? Did she act differently with him? How would they be doing it? Missionary, cowgirl, doggy-style…Growling to myself, I walked back to my desk. There was absolutely no point in me thinking about that. I would very quickly send myself insane. It was bad enough I was having second thoughts about the idea of my brother putting his hands on my lover. "No... you siad you were fine with it." I admonished myself. And I wasn't one to lie. I had promised Marley and Rhayden I was okay with the idea of them being together... I was okay with them being together. There was a knock on the door of the library, and I lifted my gaze, as Tony entered the room. Putting my hand out, I turned down the dial
Sweet lord.As my fangs pierced Marley’s throat, I could taste the sweetness which came from her blood and the opioid effect of her pleasure. Hot blood washed into my mouth, warming me through, sitting heavy in my belly. My pace increased, my hips ramming against hers as I plundered her beautiful body. She was mine. After two years of pining after the one woman I couldn't have, Marlene Brennan was finally mine.Marley lay under me, moaning; back arching; on the verge of an orgasm and I was the cause. That delerious thought, dancing around in my head, making this all the more exciting, and unbelieveable. Her fingernails scraped along the backs of my shoulders, adding a tinge of pain to the pleasure and I tore my mouth away from her flesh, as my orgasm ripped through me.A couple of more thrusts and she was right there with me... Marley’s core clenched around my cock, milking me and I buried my head against her neck, riding out the wave of pleasure. Her heart thudded erratically agains
Nothing had ever felt so right, as when Rhayden slammed his mouth onto mine, our tongues dueling, as we let go of the restraints which had been holding us back for almost two years... Because it had been the whole time I'd been in the Raynes mansion, I'd been denying the attraction I had for not only Absinthe... but his little brother as well.Being with Absinthe had always felt normal, from the moment we’d first fucked, he’d been my safe harbor, my calm and compassionate. My security and protection. He had always been the one I ran to, when I needed help. But Rhayden... the one Absinthe sent to help me in hunts, to guide me on missions and to be a general pain in the ass... He was my storm. The insanity in my life. The fight, the need to rebel, the feeling of being the kick ass hunter I was. He was the one who taught me to be a better hunter... to be more independant from Abe...He was the other half of the coin, which was the Raynes. There was no one without the other.Rhayden's u
By fuck, I still hurt. The gashes which I had received from Vince were healed, but I ached. My anger was not diminished either. How could we have been so blind?Abe had shown me the folder. The obsession Vince had with Marley was sickening. He even had Lynda’s urn. I could only imagine what Marley would be feeling right now, as she found out and there was nothing I could do to help. She’d be comforted in my brother’s arms.Pacing my room wasn’t helping my mood either. My mind kept returning to Marley and my emotions wrecked over themselves to be heard. Anger, sorrow, lust; all clashed. I was almost to the point where I’d happily fight my brother, for even the chance of having the human beauty just once.A knock at my door and I stopped pacing, turning my attention to it.A heartbeat, but two presences. I stared at the door for a few moments, until Marley’s voice called out. “Rhayden, open the door.”In the two years since she had kicked and screamed into our lives, I had never bee
“We found a storage locker, registered to Vince.” Tony sat opposite me, flipping through pages upon pages of photos and documents. His gaze lifted to mine, and he grimaced. “He had an unnatural obsession with Miss Brennan.”My stomach fluttered. “What?”I looked at Absinthe, who nodded to Tony and the head security guard handed over an A4 photo. I took it with shaking hands and looked down at it.It was just a basic storage locker. No bigger than ten by ten. But the walls were lined with weapons, and photos of me. My heart hammered with the red string, which linked me with various places and vampires. The places I’d hunted, the names and photos of the rogues I’d killed. Photos of Absinthe and Rhayden. Pictures of inside my apartment.Tony slid another photo over to me.A table of objects; all belonging to me.Underwear, jewelry, knives I’d thought I’d lost. Photos of my family when they were still alive. My sister’s urn.I shoved the photos away and looked at Absinthe. “You had this
