I should not have let him touch me.
Vampires were territorial. Everything revolved around scent, and I knew I would have Rhayden’s scent on me. Which was why I was standing in the shower, the water as hot as my skin could handle. I had already scrubbed it from top to toe with my favorite soap, hoping it would be enough. Not for the first time, my mind wandered to how I had found myself the center of a vampire’s attention. A chance encounter with a bloodsucker had put me squarely in the crosshairs of Absinthe Raynes and he’d offered me the job of being his bounty hunter.
While they were deadly creatures at night; they could not hunt during the day and a human hunter would be able to kill a rogue while they were in hibernate.
At first, I had told Absinthe to shove his job and his salary of one-million-dollars a year, up his ass. I did not want anything to do with him, especially after finding out he had been creeping into my past. I had left the mansion with the knowledge of what he was, but also with the threat to keep my mouth shut, or there would be ramifications.
Then she had been killed.
My little sister Lynda.
Her gruesome death had been listed as an accidental mauling, by a stray dog.
But dogs did not climb the fire escape, jimmy open the window and let themselves in.
I had come back to Absinthe, knowing a vampire had killed my sister, demanding the job. Since then, I had been his hunter and had killed over five hundred rogue vampires, looking for the one who had killed my sister.
I found him once, but circumstances were not in my favor… and to save a friend, I had given up my chance to take down her killer.
Two years later, I still had not found him again, but I would not give up. Not until I had had my revenge on the monster which had taken my sister from me.
“You look like a cooked lobster.”
My head turned, my thoughts ripped from my memories, and I stared at the man standing in the bathroom doorway. I licked my lips as I turned my head back to the tiled wall, and lied, “Trying to get the smell of the docks off me.”
“Well, it’s worked.” A heavy thud and I turned again, watching as Absinthe’s hands lifted to his shirt, unbuttoning it, his richly tapestried robes discarded on the stone floor. His hair, now loose, cascaded over tanned shoulders and his hands moved down his chiseled torso, to his pants.
My stomach churned as he slipped out of them, discarding his clothing on top of his robes and stood in front of me naked. He was one of the most perfect specimens I had ever seen, reminding me of the first time we had slept together. Our first sexual encounter had been epic. I’d been sore, exhausted, but thoroughly satisfied and he had ruined any chance of me wanting a human lover ever again.
Absinthe stepped into the shower, and I turned as he pressed his cold chest against my back. His arms wrapped around my chest as his lips found my neck. “I missed you.”
“I’ve only been gone for two weeks.”
“Felt like longer.” Absinthe’s lips gripped my ear, his hands moving to my breasts, and he squeezed them gently. I tipped my head back as his hands moved lower skirting down my ribs, over my hips toward the dip of my sex. “Did you miss me?”
I moaned as his fingers slipped between my folds, the coolness of them brushing over my clit. “Always.”
Absinthe turned me around, his mouth crushing against mine. In the two years of our relationship, I had gotten used to the coldness of his kiss. His tongue pushed into my mouth, his hands lifting me to him, and he held me against the cold tiles.
One hand left my butt and his hips dipped slightly. His cock pushed into me, my heat encompassing his chill and he moaned in my mouth as he started to thrust.
Held easily against the wall with his one arm, Absinthe fucked me against the tiles, his other hand pressed against the wall. His grunts grew louder with each thrust and my own pleasure built quickly. Our kiss broke and he buried his head against my neck, and I waited, knowing what was coming.
The sting of the bite still sent a spike of fear through me, until the pleasure took over and Absinthe’s lips sealed around the bite mark. He drew on my blood, my heart ratcheting up as his thrusts became stronger and more frequent.
His mouth ripped from my throat, finding my mouth again and the taste of my own blood touched my lips. His hands gripped my ass harder, my orgasm peaking quickly and with a few more thrusts, and a tile on the wall cracking under pressure; we both crashed over the edge of pleasure.
I didn't want this meeting. But I wouldn't be able to find the culprit of my mated being slaughtered, skulking around in the dark. We didn't know what kind of killer it was.Vampire, Human… or other.Pushing open the double doors, my gaze fell on my little brother. Where I was dark haired, he was pale. My skin was olive, but his was as pale as cream. While I took after our father, he took after our beautiful mother. He also had a pension for leather, denim, and biker boots, which were on the table.“Rhayden. Boots.” He flipped me off, as usual, but the boots disappeared from the surface of the table. “Thank you.”I turned, waiting for Marlene to enter the room behind me. Her gaze lifted to mine, and she smiled as she walked past. Every fiber in my undead being wanted to throw Rhayden out of the room and have Marley on the table behind me. She had been gone for two weeks. Two weeks without her warmth against me, without waking up from hibernate with her by my side. The moment we had
“Fucking stupid ass!” I shoved clothing into my bag, not caring to fold them.Did Absinthe not know how Rhayden, and I felt about each other? I stopped for a moment. Of course, he did not know, or he would not have sent us off together. This was not going to end well. I could feel it deep in my guts. This was going to go so far sideways; it would resemble a crab walking, and then what? Shoving more clothing into the pack, I zipped it closed, as the door to my room swung open. Turning, I sucked my tongue over my teeth at the man who was leaning against the doorjamb. “I thought you were getting things ready.”Rhayden's gaze raked up and down my body, “Already done, Mars. Just waiting on your slow, but delicious ass.”My eyes rolled and I picked up my heavy pack, throwing it at him.The thought it would hit him in his pretty face was dashed when he caught it and let it hang by his side. “Is that all you are taking? Need anything else? Like the kitchen sink perhaps?”“Fuck you.”“Not li
Of all the dumb missions Absinthe could have sent me on... this was the dumbest of all. He could have sent me to our cousin, I could have had some fun with the girls he liked to play with. Or I could have gone chasing around after some idiot official, who was surveying the mansion's security, for reports back to the big-big boss... But no... my perfect big brother had to go and send me off with Marlene Brennan... The one woman in this whole world, I would happily sink my fangs into, even if it meant death. Surely sitting in with the eldres earlier had scrambled the idiot's brain. Maybe he needed some sun... The last thought had me chuckling, then grimacing. Yes, it was funny... but at the same time, it wasn't. I wouldn't hurt a hair on my brother's head. We'd been through so much, I had been a loyal soldier for him for almost two-hundred and fifty years. That wouldn't change... even for Mars.Speaking of the beautiful human hunter...I knew she was outside the armory before she'd
The Alfa’s V8 engine was purring, and I was finally used to Rhayden’s erratic driving. He sped past every car, racing who he could, with a glee only shared with himself. He'd chuckle every now and then at people's attempts to race the Alfa, making me roll my eyes. My knuckles were no longer white, and my heart rate was finally at a comfortable level, but I couldn't watch the scenery though… he was driving too damned fast.“Another ten minutes of driving, then I’m going to have to find shelter.”I looked over to him as his gaze slipped past me, and I turned my head, seeing the pale tinge to the horizon. It will be sunrise soon. Most of what people knew of vampires was bullshit.Garlic was just a nauseating smell to them, and religious crosses did squat.Silver had a sedative effect on them, if it was in a large enough quantity and pure. But the one major thing which did affect them was the sun.It was one of the best ways to kill a vampire. But if they were safe from its rays, it sent
Holding the phone to my ear, I listened to my brother droning on the other end. My eyes rolled as he went on and on and on, about how important this mission was; for the hundredth time. Like I didn't already know that, by the fact we'd lost twenty members of our fucking coven. men and women I had practically grown up with. “I know, Abe. I am not stupid.”There was a pause, then a chuckle. “That’s—”“Don’t fucking say it.” I growled. I had always been considered the brawn of the two of us. More muscle than brains, but I was not some dickhead killing machine. I could outthink Absinthe if I wanted to, and if the idiot had listened to me in the first place, we wouldn't have twenty dead vampires, and I wouldn't be here, babysitting Marley.A waft of scent and I turned, watching my brother's hunter as she paced the room beyond the one, I was in. I had been harsh to her earlier. It was not fair the way I was treating her. I knew she could not do anything about her relationship with Abe.He
I had forgotten to grab underwear. In my haste to get away from Rhayden, and to wash the scent of his brother off me, to keep him happy I had managed to forget one of the most vital pieces of clothing. Something which would, in my mind, protect me from the creature I travelled with.Padding through the house, I kept my eye out for the vampire. I did not want him to know I was panty-less. I'd seen the way he looked at me, when I was fully clothed. Going to my bag, I rummaged through it, trying to keep my long night-shirt covering my backside. “Where the fuck are they?”I had packed at least three pairs and they all seemed to be missing...“Looking for these?”My stomach contracted as I turned. Rhayden was leaning against the doorjamb, one of my lace thongs hooked over his index finger, the other two pairs of panties, gripped in his hand. I blinked and stared at him. “Did you seriously go through my bag?”His grin widened. “Just wanted to see what kind of underwear you preferred. Wou
The scrap of lace she called panties fell to the ground with the others, as I launched myself at her. My hands gripped her face, my mouth crushing against hers and I kissed Marley deeply. Her taste was sweet, her hands scrambling for my hips, and I growled as her fingernails dug into my flesh. A soft mewl escaped her lips as my tongue drove into her mouth and her knees weakened.I laid her softly on the cold floor, my body next to hers as I buried my head against the side of her neck, her breath ragged to my ears. Marley’s back arched as my lips travelled along her neck to her ear and I moaned against her skin. “Beautiful, mortal woman…”My mouth moved down her neck, laying wet, cold kisses to her skin and her heart hammered loudly in her chest, igniting a fire within me I'd never felt before. Down over her night shirt, I teased her nipples through the fabric with my teeth, resisting the urge to unleash my fangs on her soft skin.To mark her, would be to place a target on both mine a
“Fucking cock sucking asshole!” I paced the courtyard, resisting the urge to kick Rhayden’s car as I walked past it.Fuck kicking it, I would take to it with a baseball bat if I had a chance.“Fucking prick.”It was supposed to be a kiss. Instead, the vampire had eaten me out in what I could only describe as one of the best fucking experiences of my life.My voice was coarse from yelling at the rising sun for the last hour, while Rhayden was deep within the bowels of the safe house, knocked out cold, in hibernate. All I wanted to do was go in there, drag his sorry ass outside and dance a jig while he burned in the sun.Sighing, I twisted and sank to the pavement, my legs folded underneath me. My head went to my hands, tears threatening to break through and drown me. Why was this happening to me? Surely, I could have found the killer and dealt with them on my own.I should not have been teamed up with the one vampire I could not resist. I wanted to call Abe and confess to what had hap
My hand went to my mouth, and I looked at Absinthe. Tears were on his lashes, and he closed his eyes, letting the drops slide down his cheeks. “Oh my god.”“Now you know. You know why I didn’t want to tell you about Johan, or where he was. It’s not the fear of you leaving Marley. Honestly, I could live with that, to know you are safe…” He opened his eyes, his irises almost white and I heard the pain and anguish in his voice. “It’s the fear of him taking the one thing—which is worth more to me, than my own immortality. That is what scares me.”My hand reached out to him, and I gripped his hand in mine, squeezing it. “As much as I want to be angry with you, I understand why you did it. But Abe… he has to be bought to justice for what he did.”“I know, and he will. I just need time to make a pla—” The phone rang, making us both jump and Absinthe reached out, pick

“Abe?”Absinthe slowly lifted his eyes, looking at me. “I was wondering when you would get here.”I closed the door to the library, and leaned against it, looking at my dark-haired lover. He looked sad. Lost almost and I sighed, walking over and sat next to him. We didn’t speak for a few minutes. His gaze couldn’t hold mine… that’s when I understood, and my heart broke into a million pieces. “You knew about Johan and Johnathan.”“Yes.”He knew… I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Why didn’t you tell me?”Absinthe’s bottom lip trembled, “Because I knew you would have a one-track mind about it. That it would cloud your judgement.”“What judgement? That he is as crazy as his ancestor—”“Father.”“What?”“Johnathan was Johan’s father
It had been twenty-four hours since the trial, and while things should have been feeling fairly normal… something was niggling in the back of my mind. Something didn’t feel right.I hadn’t seen either Absinthe or Rhayden tonight, but I knew I would probably have Rhayden between my legs any time—“Hey, what are you doing?”I looked up at Rhayden, seeing him standing at the door, arms crossed over his chest. He still sported the remnants of the braids I’d done the night before, and I smirked, returning my attention to the device in my hands. “Recovering from your brother.”“Was he rough with you Mars?”There was not an inkling of concern in this ass’ voice, and I rolled my eyes at him, flipping him off, which earned a chuckle. After Absinthe had fucked me three times, and sent me insane with pleasure, we’d laid quietly and not spoken. I had been drained, not only mentally,
I waved to Othello as his entourage took him out of the mansion grounds to a hotel owned by our kind, which would house him and the other coven leaders for the rest of the night. There was no fucking way I wanted them in my mansion any longer. It had been a rough night. There were moments where I thought I would have to fight Mathias, or tear my brother off him. But in the end, justice prevailed and Marley was safe.Speaking of Marley.I turned and walked back into the mansion, seeking out her scent.I knew she would be with Rhayden. Hopefully not impaled on him again. That, I had only just barely tolerated. While I knew they fucked, I didn’t want to see it.There.Turning to one of the four parlors in the lower halls of the mansion, I stopped at the doorway. Marley was sitting a small armchair, Rhayden at her feet and she was… was she braiding his hair?I chuckled as the pure bliss on my brother’s fac
The vampire at the end of the table had everyone’s attention. Even his so-called supporters stared at him as if he had just sacrificed a small child in their presence.Mathias sat down and leaned back in his chair, looking at us all. “It wasn’t Johnathan.”Wasn’t…? this guy was just so fucking negative. What the actual fuck?“It was. I saw the tatt—”“It wasn’t.” Mathias snarled, crossing his arms over his chest. “It was his brother. Kendrick didn’t like the fact his brother had been slaughtered by Absinthe.”“I did not slaughter him. He attacked me.” Abe spat and Mathias rolled his eyes.“Whatever. Kendrick said Absinthe had no right to ruin his family’s legacy like he had. Johnathan’s final wish was to destroy his own coven, kill out the bloodline. He never liked the fact he was a vampire. Never accepted what he
You could have heard a pin drop in the room… well, you could only hear my breathing, and I thought that worse. Why the fuck did I have to be surrounded by dead things?“Mathias, you called this trial, I call for you to make the opening address.”My attention turned to the man at the end of the table. Surrounded by other vampire coven leaders, Mathias tried to look impressive as he stood. But in reality, I could see what a weak creature he really was, and I wondered if he had been like this when he had been human; because I could tell with the fang marks on his neck, he wasn’t born a vampire like my lovers.Mathias leaned forward, his knuckles going to the table as if to be intimidating, and glared at me. “This human, killed one of my Senior Coven, without evidence of any wrong doing on my member’s behalf. She needs to be punished for it. And I would gladly punish her if you cannot.”He was kidding, right
I walked beside Marlene, Rhayden on her other side, as we moved through the quietened mansion toward the library and to her fate. This was going to be a shit show.I could feel it in my bones.Never in the history of the vampire nation, had a human stood trial for killing a vampire. They were usually dealt with quicker than this. Slaughtered, or drained of their blood, or left in the wilds to die. This whole situation was unheard of and the fact it was happening to our human, set my teeth on edge. This could go one of two ways.Marley would be found not-guilty, in which she would be free and we would be able to continue on how we had been.Of she would be found guilty and her life would be forfeit; and I would not be okay with that. This meeting could potentially be the death of my beautiful lover, and I had to decide if I would stand for it.Would I allow Othello end Marlene’s life? No. I knew I wouldn’t.An
My heart fluttered. God damn it. Again?I hated serum so fucking much. My head pounded, and my eyes slowly opened.Absinthe and Rhayden were leaning over me, their hair curtaining their beautiful faces. I smiled, reaching up and stroked their cheeks, my touch melting the tension from their features as they looked down at me.“My boys…”“Marley.” Absinthe cooed, leaning down. He gently pressed his lips against mine, before Rhayden did the same.“We thought we’d lost you Mars.”“I’m not going anywhere just yet.” I smiled, moving to sit up and Absinthe helped, propping pillows behind my back.Rhayden smiled, looking to his brother as he climbed from the edge of the bed. “I’ll go tell Othello she’s awake.”Absinthe nodded, turning back to me as Rhayden closed the door. “You left a dead Lycan on Othello—”
