Making an enemy

CHAPTER FIVE

MAKING AN ENEMY

LAURA’S POV

Chris had been so charming last night that I was so sure I would call him, and he would come running immediately as soon as he could. But to my surprise, I called him, and he wouldn't pick up, and when I was directed to voicemail, I sent him a message, but there was no reply. After calling the third time, a female voice picked it up.

“This is the CEO’s phone; he said to tell you he would call as soon as he was free.”

“Oh, okay. Thanks.”

I sank onto the pavement, seeing how the only chance I had to reach my class, which would start in thirty minutes, was gone. I should have brought my car.

I began to walk towards the gate, but suddenly, I cried out in frustration.

What is the use of waking when I knew it was hopeless?

“Need my help now?”

I heard the annoying voice ringing in my ears as I buried my face in my palm and looked up. I am not sure I will ever be this relieved to see him again, so I immediately rushed to the side of the car.

“Please,” I said. I knew that was what he wanted to hear, so I said it to him, and as soon as I got into the car, he looked at me with raised eyebrows.

“Thank you.”

He smiled.

“My class starts in thirty minutes, and I want to get there as early as possible.”

“Maybe you should have woken up earlier than that if you wanted to get to class early. Just so you know, I am not your driver; I am just helping my men out.”

"Whatever, just help me get to school."

He turned on very loud music and zoomed off. He did not talk to me throughout the ride. Man! He drove so fast that we reached the school in fifteen minutes. I had checked; the medium speed would have gotten me to school a few minutes late, and now, I won't be late.

He grabbed my left arm as soon as I made it to the door.

“So, do you want to tell me what that was about, the jacket which you have held onto all morning?”

“Why should I?”

“Because you owe me.”

“The only thing I owe you is a thank you, or maybe you want me to give you a ride someday. I will gladly do that. Now, let me go.”

“Why should I do that?”

“Because I’m going to be late for my class.”

“And that is my business how?”

“Why are you doing this?”

“For the fun of it?”

“Don't you have work to get to?”

“No, I don’t.”

Something flashed in his eyes, but before I could even identify it, it was gone as soon as it came. I looked at the place where our hands were linked and raised an eyebrow.

“Sit still,” he said and got out of the car. I wondered what he was doing, and when he opened the car door for me, I felt somehow. I can't even describe how I felt, but when I heard the voices of my friends as they came near, I quickly threw in my confidence as I walked out of the car.

He smiled at me as he kissed my cheek, “Don't forget to eat something, little girl,” he said with a wink and returned to the car, then he drove off.

“Oh, my days! Tell me that is the guy you want to fuck,” Ashley said, and I quickly narrowed my eyes at her.

“That will soon be my stepbrother. Watch what you say, girl,” I said.

“But he's so hot,” Byron said. I forgot to mention, Byron is gay, and he is proud of it.

“I agree,” Ashley said. However, Talia seemed to be the only one among us who was not enjoying this.

“I hope you realize we have just a few seconds to get to class.”

Oh, shoot! Did that bastard do this on purpose? He got me to school early but made me waste my time enough to be late for class. I am so going to kill him.

We rushed to class, and our shock, the lecturer was already in class. We sneaked in and sat at the back, which wasn't the best position in a class that is very interactive, but beggars can't be choosers.

“Whose jacket is that?” Ashley asked.

“The guy I want to fuck’s.” said with a wink and the others all cooed silently so as not to call the attention of the lecturer and as soon as the class ended, we went out to get some food.

“So, does your step brother have a girlfriend?” Ashley asked.

“How would I know? I hate the guy.”

“You did not seem to hate him so much when he was all touchywith you,” Byron said with a wide grin.

“Who said I wasn’t and when was that?”

“We all saw that, didn’t we?” He said again and we laughed and surprisingly, I was starting to blush. I did wonder why as I looked at the jacket. My phone rang and I picked it up. It was a strange number but when I heard the vice, I brightened immediately.

“I am sorry about earlier, Laura. I was in the meeting and ….”

“It’s time, I have your jacket with me.”

“Yeah, that. You can give it to Sebastian, he will be locking you up in his evening.”

“What?”

“Oh, you didn't know?”

“I was hoping you would be able to pick me up so that we can hang.”

“Maybe some other time, sweet. I need to go now.” He hung up immediately. I was not angry by the fact that he hung up, but I was so elated by the fact that he had just called me ‘love.’

“Laura, watch it!” I barely heard Byron call as I was lost in my reverie, and I walked in front of a sports car which stopped just before it could hit me.

The driver got out, and it was a very hot blonde girl who couldn't be more than a few years older than us if she was. The look on her face was not a good one at all as she eyed me angrily while walking away, muttering.

“If you want to die so bad, why don't you just jump into the subway.”
