"Those who turn in the work can go out," the teacher tells us. It had been quite an entertaining test. Most of the things I had seen in my other high school so it hadn't been that much of a problem for me.
The first to come out was Logan Miller, then followed by his brothers.
"You finished?" Natalia asked me, getting up. I only needed one question, but I did not know that question.
"Yes." I stood up and took my bag. Natalia and I put the tests on the teacher's desk and went out.
"At least I'll show you around," Natalia told me. "We can start with the cafeteria. Come." She took me by the arm and made me follow her. Natalia comes into confidence very quickly.
"I don't have the class schedule, what class do we have after history?" I asked. When I got to the cafeteria, I noticed that there were several groups sitting at different tables. The cafeteria was large, it was surrounded by glass windows, you could see the forest at one end and the parking lot at the other end.
"I think we have biology. Well, this is the cafeteria, "she says.
I realized.
"Yes, I know." I put my lips in a single line.
"I'll show you around campus." She took my hand again and led me down the hall toward the field. "We take physical education classes here sometimes. Boys play football from time to time." Natalia walked to the center of the field so I followed her.
The place was huge, quite wide, the stairs were on one side, the benches too. In the distance I noticed the Millers talking something to another man.
"He's the coach," Natalia tells me, referring to the person the Millers were talking to. Natalia sat down in the Indian style. "Sit down," she pats the place next to her.
I also sat in the Indian style.
"I really liked the explanation you gave about your necklace," she commented. "I have one just the same in fact." She pulls the necklace out from under her shirt and shows it to me. I was surprised to see the same necklace, however it had a difference: "I know they look identical but they are not. Look, mine has an initial. It's an "N" my father also gave it to me when I was a baby. Like you, I feel that it gives me courage; but I also feel that it protects me. Believe it or not, Levana, there are certain dangers around here."
I hesitated a bit. What caught my attention the most was the initial on her necklace. Could it be that my necklace has an initial of mine? I took out my necklace and looked at the rear.
"I hadn't noticed that my necklace also had my initial on it. It's an 'L', "I commented, smiling afterward. This necklace made me feel closer to my parents.
"Don't you think it's strange?" She asks me later. "Or coincidence."
I thought about it: it was quite a coincidence that she and I had the same necklace but with the difference that each had different initials.
"I don't know, maybe it is." As much as I thought about it, I had no idea what it meant. Or was it just that necklaces were in fashion at that time and most people bought them to wear to their children. "Perhaps by chance."
"I don't believe in coincidences," she tells me. "I've always believed that things happen because of something. There is always a reason."
Breathe deeply. My gaze flicked yards ahead, where Miller's two brothers had left and only Logan was left with the coach. Logan was leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, staring in our direction. The coach also gave us quick glances at times.
How weird.
Logan's gaze was hard and intimidating.
"Why do you say you can't talk to the Millers?" I asked Natalia without taking my eyes off Logan.
"They are rules that they themselves set a long time ago. Not talking to them or looking at them, "she explained." I don't know why, really. Levana, you're seeing him, "she says.
I looked at her.
"I could not avoid it."
"I know the Millers are very handsome, especially Logan, but I don't recommend you pay attention to them. All three are different. For example, Steve is the center, who seems to be making important decisions. Chase is the womanizer, he is always with a different girl and the next day he is with another. And Logan, well, Logan is more serious and expressionless. Logan is scary."
I looked at Logan again. He was still looking at me and I didn't know why. His coach would say something to him and Logan would sometimes reply.
"He's very dark," I accidentally spoke. I didn't even think what I would say
"Exactly. Dark. They live near the lake. By the way, are we going one day?"
I looked at her again.
"To the lake? "I liked that idea.
"Sure, I haven't been going for a long time. You are good, Levana. I smiled.
"You are good too."
She looks at her watch.
"It's time for biology. Let's get up." We stand up and walk across the field toward the entrance. I didn't look at Logan again because the truth didn't interest me.
When we got to the classroom, we sat in the same places to wait for the Biology teacher.

"What are you going to order to eat?" Natalia and I were in the cafeteria lining up for lunch.
"I don't know what there is," I replied.
"Burgers, sandwiches,"she said.
"Maybe a hamburger." When it was my turn to choose something I chose a hamburger with potatoes, Natalia chose the same. We sat at a table near a window overlooking the forest. The cafeteria was packed with students.
"You live in the house near the lake, right?" She wonder to me.
"Exactly"
"At least you have it close. I live on the other street."
In the distance I looked at the boy from yesterday, who was supposed to be my neighbor. I remembered that his name was Samuel, he was with the same group of friends from yesterday. They sat at a middle table with their lunches. Samuel knew about the wolf yesterday. He could give me explanations.
"Are you waiting for me a moment? I have to ask something." I stood up.
"Sure."
I walked over to Samuel's table and sat in a place that was empty. He saw me. I smiled at him.
"Hello. Remember me? "I told him.
He narrows his eyes. "Yes, the neighbor. I'm Samuel "he says.
"I know. I am Levana. Hey, something strange happened yesterday, "I commented.
Samuel shared knowing glances with his companions to later see me.
"Hey, Levana, I don't think it's a good idea to talk about that here," he whispered very softly.
"Why not?" I frowned.
"Not a good idea," he says. I noticed that Logan walked into the cafeteria, but he was coming alone.
"Samuel, I just want to know about the wolves. Last night I was practically face to face with one of them."
"I see he didn't do anything to you."
"Not fortunately."
"How lucky are you then." Samuel watched Logan go by and he stiffened. Was he afraid of Logan? "Listen, you better not go out after sunset. If you want to be safe from those beasts, don't go out."
After sunset.
It was a part of the song that the girls sang.
"Now if you'll excuse me I have to go to the bathroom." Samuel gets up and leaves. I looked at his friends: they just shrugged and continued eating.
I stood up, when I turned wanting to go back to my place I collided with a body. "Auch," I complained, but when I looked up I found Logan Miller just a few feet from me. "Excuse me."
Logan had his arms crossed.
"What are you afraid of? " He ask me.
I frowned without understanding.
"What?" I was aware that we were the center of attention.
"What are you afraid of, Jones?" He smiled sideways. But it was an evil smile, full of ulterior motives. I was not sure what his question was about. Who am I scared of? I do not know. And I also didn't know why Logan was asking me that.
"Nothing," I answered seriously. His eyes were black, very black; I found them impressive. Unconsciously I remembered the look of the wolf from last night. And I compared the look of Logan and the wolf.
God, I'm crazy.
"What are you afraid of?" I asked him in the same tone he had used. Serious. But it was a mocking laugh.
"I'll see you later, Jones," was what he said, passing me by and leaving the cafeteria. I stood there not knowing why Logan had acted so strange to me and why he had asked me something that didn't make sense.
Logan Miller was weird.
-What did Logan say to you? -was what Natalia asked me when I sat back down at the table.-Actually it was something strange," I told her, starting to eat my hamburger. Logan's dark look had stayed in my head.-Tell me about it, Logan doesn't talk to anyone just like that. Least of all to a girl at this high school.I looked at her blankly.-He doesn't talk to girls here? -I wanted to know, it seemed a little strange.-I mean, he does talk, but only with one. They're always in a group so to speak. And the girl in the group is called Roberta Roberts, she's a redhead who, by the way, I don't think came in today.-If he talks only to her, don't you think she's his girlfriend? -I hesitated a little.-I don't know. Maybe I do, what I mean is that Logan isn't like his brother Chase as a womanizer. He's more... focused on that stuff.I thought for a bit, he was the first cute guy in high school who wasn't a womanizer and didn't keep himself surrounded by women. Logan seemed darker to me.-Wh
To say that everything happened in slow motion was an understatement; Ruth turns to see that huge wolf and screams, the only thing I can do is run to her even if it means that the wolf attacks me, cover its mouth and shield myself.-Lev -Natalia whispered.-Nat, get in the house," I told her, I didn't know what would happen but I had to protect this little girl.-Don't worry about me, Lev, concentrate on Ruth.I hesitated a little at what he said; but my concentration shifted to the wolf when he growled and came a little closer. It was kind of creepy to be here, in front of that huge animal. Ruth squeezed my clothes, fearfully; I could feel her little hands shaking almost. I became serious, feeling that this wolf would not intimidate me.That's when I did something: I took out my Triskelion collar and showed it to her. As I imagined: the wolf stopped in his tracks and looked both ways in bewilderment. That's when I realized that they were afraid of this. And I felt more protected. The
As I drove to the high school my mind was on what had happened yesterday: the crime. The delivery boy, who was at my house then? I'm starting to have a lot of doubts about this place. I parked the car and got out, there were more kids outside, but there was also Logan Miller's group. They were all dressed in black. The group consisted of maybe ten guys; they were all imposing and very pale. They looked like the unreachables of this place.I padded my backpack and hurried to walk without being affected by the gaze of these strangers.-Levana! Levana Jones! -A voice behind me made me stop in my tracks and turn around. It was a boy calling out to me.-Yes? -I looked at him strangely.-Hello," he said when he came to me, "I'm Carlos, I'm with you in the same room.-I didn't see you yesterday," I scratched the back of my neck a little nervously. He laughed.Carlos was tall and more or less dark-skinned, he had his muscles and everything as if he worked out all the time. His hair was black,
-Tell me, what time did you talk about ordering the pizza? -The officer in front of us sat down in a chair at the other end of the table. We were at the police station giving our statement about last night.-It was maybe seven or eight o'clock at night," I answered.-That's right, after high school we went to Levana's house to watch some show. Her sister is a nurse and she's alone most of the time," added Natalia.-What time did Natalia leave Levana's house? -asked the officer who was asking us questions and writing in his notebook.-About ten o'clock at night or eleven o'clock I left her house. I was at mine at a quarter past eleven because I woke up my mother and we stayed up talking until twelve," answered Nat. Everything seemed to agree, but it had to because we hadn't done anything. I mean, we were just cooperating.-I understand. The coroner told us that Steven died in the middle of the night. We found Levana's address on some notes and that's why we're asking you some questions
-Levana, who is Logan Miller and why did he help us? -Sara closes the curtains and now turns to us.-I'm just getting to know the guys here -I shrug- Maybe because he had something to do with all this.-That's right, maybe he's protecting his own," Natalia commented.I crossed my arms because I didn't understand anything, Logan Miller was very mysterious and I was sure that they had something to do with Steven's death, that poor boy who was just doing his job. They are bad. I remembered that he had invited me to his party. He'll be crazy if he thinks I'm going.-This is really bad -Sara puts her hands to her head- I don't know what's going on here but I need you two to stay out of trouble.-We're not to blame for them wanting to hurt us," Nat shrugs.-Natalia, what do you know about the Millers? -my sister asked.-I only know that they are attractive and that.... -she started to say but Sara interrupted her.-I'm not talking about that. I want to know about their lives, about them.-W
Logan grabbed my waist roughly and pinned me to the wall, cornering me. I didn't quite understand what was going on or why Logan was kissing me if we barely knew each other. I started to feel something in my chest, like a strange thing going up and down my throat. I felt something in my stomach too, I felt like I needed it. I brought my hands to the back of his neck and grabbed his hair. He brought his lips to my neck, kissing me:-I want to eat you," he whispered softly, it was a whisper that gave me chills.-Logan -I wanted to pull away, but he wouldn't let me -Logan, stop it.Now he looked at me.-What's wrong?I swallowed thickly, my lips felt throbbing, too eager to kiss him again. God, it was a completely strange sensation I'd never experienced before. Ever. With anyone.-That it's not right what we're doing. -I crossed my arms, pulling further apart.Logan sighed.-You couldn't help it, could you? You felt things when I kissed you," he leaned closer, "Things in your stomach, i
-What is he doing here? -I crossed my arms, looking at Logan, who came with a totally amused look on his face.-Levana, don't talk like that. Logan offered to take care of you today while the whole house check is going on," answered my dear sister, "Now I have to go, you're in good hands. -Sara walks out of the house and leaves, leaving me alone with this strange boy. Unconsciously I remembered her kiss from yesterday and I tensed up a little.-Well," Logan sits down on the couch and takes control of the TV, "do you have anything to eat? I'm starving.-No, and even if I did I wouldn't give it to you -I sit down next to him-why are you doing this, Logan, what are you doing here?Logan switched channels without leaving a single one. He didn't seem to flinch at my questions, his countenance was relaxed and as if he was used to it. He knew how to act very well.-I told you, Levana, you're mine," he gave me a quick glance as he winked at me.-I'm not yours! -I stood up immediately -We wome
-Good afternoon, Miss Jones," the same officer from yesterday seems more confident now, "We are here to check the house, it's just a matter of protocol.-Of course. Show me the warrant," I asked. The officer handed me the papers and I pretended to read them, I really wouldn't read any of it because it was a lot and I was in a hurry. Logan appeared behind me, his attitude to the officers was nonchalant.-What's up, James," Logan greeted.-Logan Miller, what a surprise to have you around," Officer James replied.-Get used to seeing me with Levana often," he replied. I gave him a dirty look because he spoke to them without any fear.-You may come in," I handed them the warrant and opened the door wider.-We won't be long," said the other one, entering my house.-Don't worry, Lev, I'll make sure the officers do their job," Logan headed upstairs with the two officers.-Lev? -I heard Ruth's voice.-Yes?-I'm hungry," she rubbed her belly, pouting a little. It was tender to see her like that
