“Nathania, is that you?” an elderly woman called from the kitchen as the front door opened.
“Yes, granny it’s me,” ‘Oliver’ answered, shutting the door after her and hanging the car key on the wall.
“It’s good you are back dear, I am almost done with dinner,” the woman said.
“Okay granny, let me quickly rush and take a shower,” she said and ran past the kitchen door so that her granny won’t see her and the way she was dressed. Getting up to her room, she flung her backpack on the bed and took of her wig and the bobby pin, letting her chestnut brown hair to cascade down her shoulders. She flew her hair around, stretching out the strands before dropping the wig on her bed and walking over to her dressing mirror to drop the pin. She opened the drawer and got out a facial wipe which she used to clean off her makeup and then stare at her oval girlie face in the mirror.
She heaved a sigh and took off her jacket and her turtleneck, dumping everything on the floor and then she unwrapped the strap she used on her chest. It was a good thing she wasn’t busty, it was what made her lie more believable and also the fact that she was taller than most girls at 5’9 all but added the cherry on top as she was also taller than most boys in the school. All of it all added to her charm and made her lie more believable. She sighed and kicked off her sneakers before taking off her jeans and then she went into the bathroom to take a shower.
Walking back out five minutes later in a towel, she reached for her phone in her backpack and dialed a number. She slowly sat on the bed as she listened to the dial tone and right before the call could disconnect for no answer, it was answered and a tired voice flew into her ear. “Nana dear, how are you?”
“Hi mom,” she breathed and paused, waiting to hear what her mother had to say. But when nothing came, she asked, “how are you?”
“Tired, as always.”
“And dad?”
“He is sleeping,” she answered. “What about you and your grandma?”
“We are good. Granny is making dinner.”
“Oh Nana, she is not stressing herself, right?”
Nathania shook her head before answering, “nah, she is good. I just came back from school and met her in the kitchen.” They both sighed and the call ran along before she brought herself to ask, “what about Oliver, is he okay now?”
She heard her mom sigh again tiredly before she said, “we are still running tests. Last week own ended up not being accurate but we have hope with this one.”
“Can I talk to him?”
“He is asleep darling, but I will be sure to tell him that you asked of him when he wakes up. He misses you.”
“I miss him too, so much.”
“I will be sure to tell him that, you have my word.”
Nathania nodded, and once again, the call ran along until she asked, “when are you going to tell me what he is suffering from?”
“Soon dear, soon. Um…I have to go now, the doctor is here. I will call you before you go to sleep, okay?” her mother said and she nodded as an answer. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” she replied but the call has only ended. Sighing, she dropped the phone on the bed and ran her hand through her hair. Cracking her neck, she stood up and went to the wardrobe to find something casual to wear. Then cleaning up her room and dumping the dirty clothes in the basket, she left the room to join her granny for dinner.
After cleaning the kitchen and everywhere else, she helped her grandmother to her bedroom despite the woman complaining that she could handle it but she didn’t listen to her and still put her to bed, adjust the lighting in the room and kissed her good night before she went to hers. She grabbed her backpack and settled down to do her homework. Despite every shenanigan she was playing, she didn’t joke with her studies and had managed to bag number one in her school twice in a roll now and she wasn’t ready to let it go. She has always loved studying and had also refused to call herself a nerd.
Done with her homework, she climbed into bed with her phone and contemplated calling her mom again but decided to let her call her like she had said but she waited so long that she ended up drifting to sleep without getting the call.
The next day, she was awake bright an early, she made breakfast for her and her grandmother, took her grandmother’s to her bedroom for her before she started preparing for school and by the time she was done, she glanced at the boy staring back at her in the mirror and smiled, her energy back as she left her room, calling to her grandmother that she was leaving and grabbing the car key from the wall and leaving the house.
When she got to school, she was shocked to see a BMW black power bike in her parking slot. She stopped few meters from it, first of all, she has never seen the bike before, and secondly, there were a lot of empty slots, so why did the owner have to park in her slot. Angry, she reversed and took another slot and got down. She was always on time which leaves the spot always empty for her until the students started calling it her slot and now, not only did someone take the spot but they seem to have come much earlier than her.
She went to the bike and inspect it, it was authentic and in a marvelous condition, the owner was definitely a good one and as much as she loved the bike, she couldn’t help but wonder why there, why in her spot. She turned and went into the school, determined to find the owner and have them move but she searched the whole classroom and saw no one new. The arriving students were greeting her and the girls as always were begging for her attention but she had something bigger to handle. However, search as she may, she didn’t find any new student and had to give up when the bell rang.
The next two days, Nathania came to school to see that Power bike always in her spot. At first, she had thought she would see the owner during one of the classes or even at recess but none of that had happened and it wasn’t helping if the bike was gone as soon as school was over. Someone was coming with it obviously but she just doesn’t know who. Everyone was talking about a ghost student that drives the bike during recess and while they were all excited about the idea, she was annoyed. Not only was the person taking her favorite spot, the person was playing hide and seek with her. Warm arms wrapping around her neck and a kiss on her cheek woke her up from her thought and she looked up to see Teresa smiling down at her with her platinum hair flying down her shoulder. “Hey handsome,” she cooed, “thinking about me?” She smiled, giving her her killer smile. “Always baby girl, always.” Teresa chuckled and walked around, taking the seat opposite her. She leaned over and grabbed the burg
“Oh,” Nathania squeaked and quickly cleared her throat before saying in her deep voice, “didn’t see you there.” “Of course you didn’t,” the boy answered. He stared at the boy in his room with furrowed brows, he could swear that he had heard him speak with a lighter voice and all of a second, his voice was deep. He stood by the bathroom door, watching him, waiting to hear what he has to say as the reason he was in his room. “Um,” Nathania cleared her throat once more and pointed at the bedroom door. “The door was opened and um…I normally stay here whenever I visit Teri. With the door open and the music playing, I thought she was here, you know, with her knowing that I’m coming and all that.” “Mm,” the boy answered and finally step into the bedroom with another towel in his hand which he used to dry his hair. “Well, she is not here, shouldn’t you be leaving?” “Huh?” Nathania asked, she had been lost staring at his really smooth and strong back and when he turned to her then, her ey
The next day, Nathania went to school a little earlier than usual in order to claim her spot and show Xavier but as she was pulling into the school, she saw the power bike in her spot but this time, someone was sitting on it. She couldn’t believe that despite coming earlier than usual, he was there before her. How come, doesn’t he sleep at home? She has a reason for coming earlier because it takes her forty-five minutes to drive from the town her grandmother live in to the school but Teresa lives close up, only fifteen minutes’ drive so why does he come so early? She pulled over in the slot next to him and glared at him from the window. Xavier took off his helmet and when he saw the glare from the boy, he only scoffed, got down from his bike and grabbed his backpack. Without another glance to the boy in the truck, he strode into school. What is his deal anywhere? Nathania found herself asking as she watched the boy matching into the school. He always arrives early to school only to
Nathania was too shock to speak when she heard that and when she finally found her voice, she shrieked, “what? Why on earth would you think that dude?” Xavier stared at her, “like you know, I have been in this school since Tuesday and I have seen and heard a lot. I have seen you flirting with other girls and today, I couldn’t help but overhear your discussion with her in class. You are really ‘keeping’ yourself for marriage, right?” he made emphasis on the keeping. “Of course, I am a guy who loves things being perfect,” she said. “Hmm,” Xavier said, his eyes not leaving her gray ones. “Well, it better be as you say because, Teresa is a very dear cousin of mine. We may not hang out often but that doesn’t mean that if you hurt her, I am going to let you off. I hope your fighting skills are as good as your flirting ones.” “Dude, calm down, okay? It hasn’t gotten to do that yet. I swear to you that I am really faithful to Teri, trust me. What you claim to have seen are no
Xavier parked in the garage and took off his helmet, one quick look up at the window right closest to the garage, he could tell that Teresa was not in the room. She always has the habit of leaving the lamp on in her room whenever she sleeps. Turns out she was still scared of the dark like she was when they were little. He got down from the bike, wondering if she was still at the so-called party they talked about. As he thought of her boyfriend Oliver, he groaned. He doesn’t know why but he really finds the boy mysterious or that he has something up his sleeves, something he could feel would hurt Teresa later in the future. He fetched his phone from his pocket and glanced at the time, it was already one in the morning and he saw sure that his uncle and his wife were already asleep. They would be traveling in the morning after all. He stood beside his bike, deliberating on a decision as he stared at his phone and at the end, he gave up, placed his helmet on the bike and left with his gu
Xavier watched the boy in front of him, his anger was bobbling inside him and it was taking all the strength in him not to thrash the whole house. He stared at him angrily, trying to calm himself. “You imbecile, is this how you are supposed to protect her, huh?” he thundered, his hand curled in a tight fist as he held it few inches from his face.Oliver shut his eyes, refusing to look at him and then he whispered, “I’m sorry.” His voice was soft, weak like he too needed protection and Xavier was shocked silly by how weak he appeared and most importantly by how he was affected by his weakness. “I swear to God that I didn’t know this would happen. Everyone is from school and I didn’t think anyone would try to hurt her.” His voice was too soft for a man and Xavier instantly remembered that day in his room when he had walked out of the bathroom to see someone in his bedroom and he heard that soft voice purring ‘Mamma mia, who are you?’He put down his fist and released his hold on Oliver’
Over the next few days, Nathania avoided Xavier as much as she could and also secretly stared at him when he wasn’t looking. The boy was always on his own. He was beginning to show up in class more often than not but sometimes, she always bumps into him sleeping his day away in the library. The school tests were coming up and she found herself contemplating whether or not to offer to tutor him. With the way he always behaves, she doubts if he would even be getting a D minus. Eventually, she cornered him one day in the library. She had seen him going inside and had followed and when she saw him going for a book, she stopped, thinking that maybe he had finally decided to study, after all, they have a big test tomorrow. But to her surprise, he sat down, opened the book, and then place his head on the desk and start sleeping.“What in the world?” she whispered, she waited, thinking that maybe he just wanted to rest or just something but then the seconds started counting to minutes and be
“Xavier Grey, A+. Wow, I’m impressed,” the teacher announced in class as she handed him the script. Nathania couldn’t believe her ears as she turned sharply at him to see the smirk on the boy’s lips just as their eyes met. “Oliver Miles, as always, A+,” the teacher’s voice rang in her mind and she looked up to see that she was already in front of her and smiling. She offered the woman a charming smile with a “thank you, Mrs. Wicket,” and took the script from her but all the while all she could think about was Xavier’s grade. How possible? The guy does nothing but sleep, both in class and in the library, just literally everywhere, so how could he score such an excellence grade? When the class was over, she walked up to her locker to put her book inside and get ready for her next class when she felt someone resting on the locker beside hers. Looking up, the first thing she noticed was the pitch-black hair with purple tips. Her heart missed a beat when her eyes clashed with his deep brow
I glared at him and he laughed, “your words, remember?” He reminded me.“Point of correction, it wasn’t my words.”“But you suggested it and she just said it,” he winked and walked to my bed. Falling on it, he picked up the novel I had no idea was still there, yeah right. “Hmm, romance, never knew you were that type judging by the fact that you always push me away when I’m trying to be romantic with you.”I rolled my eyes, “get out of my bed, Adrian.”“Why should I? It’s soft, almost like I’m lying on your body,” he winked.“It will only happen in your dreams,” I rolled my eyes.“Here we go again,” he sighed, “anyway, this place is awfully quiet, where are your parents? You screamed really loud when you first saw me, how come none of them heard it?”“My parents are not around and my brother sleeps like a log, no matter the amount of noise in this house, he is not waking up. Well, that’s probably because he always sleeps with his headphones on.”“That’s not good, my uncle who happens t
“What the hell?” I asked.“I have missed you,” he chuckled, taking a step towards me, “what’s hard to understand there,” he was now in front of me and he ran his fingertips on my cheek, “I missed you pigeon,” he repeated in a whisper.A shiver ran through my body and I took a step back, “okay, you have seen me, now leave,” I started pushing him towards the window.“Hey, hey wait, wait, I haven’t said what I came to say,” he commented.“Yes you have.”“No, I haven’t,” he stopped moving and turned to face me.“Fine then, what else do you want to say?” I crossed my arms on my chest.Adrian licked his lips and sighed, “listen, I figured it out today during your outburst.” I frowned, my outburst? “You are angry not just because I kissed you but because it was your first kiss and I may not be the guy you wanted to give it to and also not in that surrounding.”I took a minute staring at him, speechless. First, let’s begin with the fact I never expected him to come apologising and to use the
“No, I don’t want to join in anything,” I was saying to Christy on the phone as I climbed the stairs to my room. Max chose to turn in earlier and I only enjoy watching Netflix with someone, or at least start it with someone before being left alone. It was only eight o'clock and I didn't know what to do with my time so that the hours could pass by. Then I called Christy to chat a little with her.“Come on Molly, you are no longer a new student, there are a lot of clubs in the school, find one to join. There are the drama club, the singing club, the debate club, the fashion club, the math club and you are very good in math, oh and they also have the nerd club, so which is it going to be?”“None,” I deadpanned.“Oh come, don’t be a killjoy.”“What of you, which one are you in?”“Well, I was in the drama club before I had to leave but now I want to join again or just any of the clubs. I’m tired of not belonging to anything.”“Well, that’s what I do best, I don’t belong to anything.”“Come
I sighed when I heard her words, “but that doesn’t mean everybody in school has to know about it and that stupid Adrian too. I wonder what he will be thinking of me now.”“Probably, as the most beautiful girl he has ever met. Molly, do you even look at yourself in the mirror? You are an angel when compared to beauty, you have this long wavy brown hair that glitters like a chocolate ice cream, a pair of beautiful brown eyes that captivates everyone, I mean it captivated me. You have this adorable height, has it ever occurred to you that you are more than two inches taller than me? And I am considered tall for a girl. You have this flame around you that makes you special. Beautiful and attractive like a blue fire and everybody knows that blue fire burns fiercer and hotter. You are like blue fire, Molly, attractive to look at and dangerous to touch but you also care for those who you love. Your personality is what attracted me to you, remember, and the girl I met that day is not the type
“Ms. Davis, may I know the reason you have chosen to disturb the class?” Mrs. Meyers asked.“Um…” I looked around and everyone was looking at me, even Christy was looking at me with worry, “I’m sorry Mrs. Meyers, it won’t happen again.”“It better not or there will be consequences and please, mind your use of words in my class. Understood?”“Yes Mrs. Meyers,” I bowed my head. The class continued again and I heard Adrian chuckling, I turned to glare at him and he clammed up immediately but his eyes were still filled with amusement, “I hate you,” I mouthed.“I know and I’m sorry,” he smiled.Rolling my eyes, I faced my front, ready to ignore him for the rest of my life, but he didn’t have the same plan for me I guess, for he continued pulling my hair, tickling my neck and whispering my name, well, that’s if you would call pigeon my name. Now, I hate-hate-hate-hate-hate him. When the bell rang, it was as if I had my redemption, I packed my books immediately and was out of the class befor
The next day had me preparing for school tiredly, I had watched Netflix far into the night because I couldn’t sleep. I was still dressing when my door opened and Christy stormed in, “I can’t believe this, you are still dressing?” She shrieked. This felt strange, I was used to being the one to shriek at Max for not finishing on time but having Christy do the same to me made me frown, I didn’t like it one bit. Agh, now I understand what Max usually complained about. “I’m dressing aren’t I? Calm down, I will be ready soon.”“Well you better be, being late to school is not my specialty,” she fell on my bed.“Neither is it mine,” I rolled my eyes and turned to get out my top from the wardrobe and my mind chose to remind me of someone who loves being late, a white haired guy with ocean blue eyes. Ugh, I can’t believe I will be seeing him again today and he is going to stress me out like only he knows how to.Minutes later, we were going down the stairs on our way to her car, “so, I had this
Adrian withdrew to his seat immediately and he put on his headphones just as everyone started waking up. Seeing him, you won’t believe that he was seducing me five seconds ago.I shook my head and pulled out my backpack from the seat, turning to Christy, I woke her up just as the bus was stopping. Adrian stood up immediately, strapping his bag on his shoulder, he left the bus. I stared after him and sighed, so much for being attracted to me. I rolled my eyes, grateful for Ben’s intervention, if not he would have kissed me again just like he did last night and without my permission.Actually, it was with my permission because I didn’t see myself doing anything to stop him when he was leaning closer to me. Sighing, I helped Christy up, the bus was emptying and we joined in line after she got her backpack.Outside the bus, Ms. Sanchez called for everyone’s attention and I noticed that Adrian was nowhere to be seen, I searched for him with my eyes but I couldn’t find him, where could he h
The time to leave finally arrived and as I expected, Christy woke me up and we loosed our tents. Nobody was actually happy leaving but there was nothing we could do, the principal has spoken and we could only obey.Getting to the bus, I walked straight to the back seat and sat down, pushing my backpack under the seat. I brought out my phone and plugged in my earplug just as Christy sat beside me and I placed my head on her shoulder. Minutes later, I felt someone sitting beside me but I didn’t bother to look, it was the school bus after all and every student can sit wherever they want. The car started some time after and I knew our journey had started. I dozed in and out of sleep until I perceived that cologne, that beautiful sea sent. I furrowed my brows, I have come to know the owner of that smell. What is he doing here? Why could I perceive his cologne when I know he is not near me? I opened my eyes to see really beautiful slender fingers resting on a black jean. My frown deepened,
As you all know, I was woken up in the morning just when I was starting to enjoy my sleep. I got up and hand combed my hair before walking outside. The sun was so bright that I had to close my eyes and open it slowly to adapt to the brightness, courtesy of sleeping late. I met Christy coming out of her tent. She looked bright and beautiful, no doubt because she had a good night's sleep, unlike me.“Hey, good morning,” she approached me then frowned, “what’s with the eye-bags, didn’t sleep well?”“Trust me, you don’t want to know,” I replied, yawning.“You know what? I really do want to know.”“Not now Chris, I will tell you later, I’m still trying to figure it out myself.”“Alright kids, gather around,” Ms. Sanchez's voice rang loud and clear. We all started gathering around her and the Monroe’s, “Listen kids, there is a change of plan. We have to go back today.”“What, why?” The whole students asked.“Apparently, Mr. Wood didn’t hear when I told him we would be staying away for two d
