Max drove like a maniac going back to Claire’s place. Two times he had beaten the re lights and his cellphone was ringing nonstop from the Chief’s calls. He sought every shortcuts that he knew—a sort of advantage for being a detective. Once he arrived at the building, he sprinted upstairs, not waiting for the elevator anymore upon seeing it was stuck at the seventh floor.

He pulled Hoon away and stared at his eyes. “Where’s Lance??” he asked but Hoon was too frightened to speak. “Stay here, okay?” he demanded and walked inside with his gun in his hands. “Claire?&r

Claire woke up to the sound of a bag zipping up. She blinked to adjust her eyes to the dimness of her room as she struggle in dizziness to get up. “Max?” she called. Max turned to her, already putting his bag over his shoulders. “What are you doing?”“Hey.” Max smiled at her. “I’m just going out for a second. How are you feeling?” He sat at the edge of her bed, and reached for her hand that was rested over the blanket. He gave it a light squeeze that was what she needed to remember what happened.“Oh my God,” she mumbled. Her eyes started to sting. She glanced over the door like she was waiting for someone to walk in. “What did I do with Lance and Hoon? I don’t recall everything, but I can remember they were crying in front of me…” Claire’s hand reached for her head, a throbbing pain creeping in.“They’re alright,

Entitling one as someone whom you share the same blood with was something that Max didn’t think he’d ever do. Not when it’s for Georgia, or for someone who’s in need of the same type of blood. And definitely not for a moment where he breaks his morals as a detective. But as the lady in the front desk turned her back on him to get outside of the counter just so she could greet him properly was something he was least expecting. With bulging, amused eyes, she beamed at him saying, “Good Lord! I was waiting for years to finally meet you!” She took him his hand and cupped it between hers. Max didn’t even had the time to collect himself when another enthusiastic—almost euphoric—remark came out from the lady’s red lips. “Your father must be upset it took you this long to collect his things,” she said.“W-What…are you talk

The dimness of the room blocked her sight of his face, but the greatastonishment was loud in his silence.“What for?” he asked, filling his words with suspicion. “William will look for me.It’s only a few time before we switch positions with the boys outside.”“I…I just don’t want to be alone,I’m really sorry for bothering you more. Just give me just five more minutes?” Iris answered. Ashot of pain flowed in her feeble knees when she tried to bend it. Damien was quick to help her straighten them again. He sighed in defeat and sat on his chair beside her bed again.“Why don’t you just sleep Iris? Are you having trouble sleeping?”Iris nodded. “I’m having nig

The narrow and dim hallways of the detention center smelled like rotten tomatoes. From the line of about six bulbs illuminating the passageway, two were dead and one is even flickering. The state of the building was something that will easily crumble when hit by a mild earthquake. Cracks filled the dull-colored walls and even some doors were missing with knobs. It was unusually quiet for a detention center which holds juveniles as well. “Is anyone even here?” he asked keeping pace with Officer Diane.“Some were already transferred to prisons, and some got free. Currently we only have three who were all placed upstairs because they are quite loud and troublesome, I need to keep them away from my office,” she answered.Max sighed in disbelief. Max had spent all of his time watching Iris’ videos through Officer Diane’s laptop, while his mind went for a roller coaster ride of agony, guilt, and regret. He wished he could have turn back the time, so he could have done something to stop his father from being a puppet of the Nightcrawlers. He could have talked to him more often, he could have asked where he went everyday instead of just hanging around in his room playing his video games. He could have pondered about why he was always silent, and distant from them, he could have asked what was going on in his head. And when Iris’ face showed up on that screen again, with purple bruises around her eyes, staring far and muttering only one to two words, Max even wished he he shouldn’t have live at all, that way, maybe his father won’t be needing money to feed them if that was the reason of him joining the gang. But Max also knows that all of his t

William spun around after staring at Damien’s dead bodyfor a whole second with no remorse painted on his face. He saw Iris on her knees at the ground, looking at Damien with her widened, shaking eyes. Satisfaction immediately filled him inside because of her reaction. It was an eye candy for his dark soul. The last time she saw Iris looking like that was when she escaped the detention center and had been running on the road with nowhere to go,no one to call and completely helpless owning nothing but her pair of clothes which was not even enough to protect her from the cold.He had sent his men to go and catch her, not realizing that he should have sent more. Five have gone off but only two came back, holding Iris in her arms, weak and all messed up. The other three were ‘thrown’ at the bridge when they tried to threaten her with a knife.
