NOVA

The man in front of me slowly looked me up and down while I stood still as if my feet were glued to the floor. He pushed his chair toward me and stopped an inch away from my toes. Then he inhaled through his nostrils and closed his eyes.

"Magnolias," he muttered, curling his lips into a smirk. When opened his eyes, they were blazing red, a true Alpha-red. His gaze flickered to the unconscious Bear and then back to me. "What have you done to our warrior, witch?" His voice seemed calm, almost pleasant, but as his aura followed his words and wrapped around me, I felt the power of his demand.

He was strong, but so was the magic flowing in my veins. My muscles tensed for a second, but I quickly overcame the pressure and stared into his eyes daringly. "He seemed tired. I put him to sleep. Don't worry, he'll wake up soon."

His eyebrows rose, and he scanned my body from head to toe once more. "Interesting… It seems that my mother underestimated you."

I narrowed my eyes, trying to read hi

FELIXThree hours earlierI didn't like it. No. Scratch that. I hated it! I was forced to watch Nova being escorted by the guards as if she was an outsider, unworthy of remaining in the audience hall of a great Alpha Rainier. Who did he think he was, a King?! I knew that Nova wanted me to stay calm and pretend to accept their rules, but blood boiled within my veins, and I could feel my inner beast digging its way to the surface.Gisele must have spent all her life trying to turn bitchism into an art. Nonetheless, I would ignore her gladly. That was even my original intention… before she insulted Nova in front of me. It took all my inner restraint not to slash her throat. My mind sent me carefully crafted frames of a scene where it happened. My claws elongated, my hand raised, and my blades ripped the flesh from her neck. Her eyes dilated a split second before her venomous mouth opened, and she realized she could no longer speak or breathe. Another heartbeat later, a thin red line appe

FELIX I tried calling Nova, but it turned out that the dead battery wasn't our only communication problem. It was next to impossible to call each other, and the text messages went through only occasionally. Apparently, in the pack organized by eighteenth-century rules, the need for a telephone signal or internet was minimal, or at least it worked like that within the packhouse. If it hadn't been for all the gold-soaked flooring, walls, and ceilings, I would have thought that I was now living in a fucking Mormon village. Of course, the pack communicated just fine without phones or the internet; all they needed was a mind link. Not that it discriminated against all the wolfless creatures living within our pack's territory. My blood boiled again, but for now, I was helpless. All I could do was make a mental note to improve the signal as soon as I became an Alpha. But, could I become this pack's Alpha? The seemingly friendly future Gamma kept his eyes on me the entire time he led me to

  • I loved this Beta too much   Family dinner

NOVAI was so worried about Felix that I couldn't sleep. Last night, he tried to call me, but our call was disconnected after two seconds, and my attempts to call him back turned out to be useless. After another hour, I got a message from him saying, "I'll work something out. Thank you. See you tomorrow at dinner."That pissed me off and frustrated me even more. I was trying to do whatever I could to meet with him, and he was suddenly OK with waiting until some freaking dinner?! Someone could have killed me in the meantime! Of course, I might have been overreacting. We were in a new place, surrounded by hostile, scheming people. I was the one who told him to pretend to play by their rules for now, but I meant it when I said "pretend," and not to actually stick to their rules! I wanted to see Felix. I needed to see him, and after my conversation with Eric, I had a lot of information he was going to need to rule this pack.I thought about sneaking out again, but the packhouse was huge,

NOVA"Nova, wait!" Felix ran after me. He grasped my wrist and brought me to a halt.We were standing in the corridor with four guards watching us and anticipating a fine drama. Felix gave the guards a meaningful glare. "Go somewhere else." They bowed down to him and sauntered away. Whatever happened on those training grounds must have earned Felix more than just his father's respect...I gritted my teeth and locked my eyes on him. "I can't do this alone," I said, swallowing a big knot forming in my throat. "I needed you to say something, to be there for me just like I have always been for you because in case you have forgotten, I am here and dealing with all this for you."He grabbed my other hand, pulled me closer, and sighed. "Well, you're doing the exact opposite right now."I frowned and jerked my hands away from him. "What?!"His jaw clenched, but he slowly drew in a breath to calm down. "You were the one who told me to play by their rules, and now it's you who doesn't want to f

  • I loved this Beta too much   Negotiations

FELIXOne week laterFor these past couple of days, all the arrangements for me to become an Alpha had been going smoothly. Once I had defeated Lance, no one questioned my right to lead the Crimson Moon Pack. My cooperation with the warriors was improving as I got to know them. My relationship with the new family got better too, and yet I was still restless, constantly feeling like something was missing…Of course, I knew why I felt this way. Nova left, and I did nothing to stop her. Rainier seemed pleased with my decision. He called it taking the responsibility seriously, but I would call it being a cold-hearted asshole. I wanted Nova near me, but right now I couldn't even grant her permission to walk freely in my presence. My authority was only superficial, and the only genuine power I had concerned leading warrior groups.Another thing proving that I was an absolute ass following Nova's suggestion and listening to Eric's bits of advice. I could sense that he was still cautious arou

  • I loved this Beta too much   Gossip

NOVALast night I had a nightmare. I was standing in the middle of a courtroom filled with wolves that were cursing me, snarling at me, yelling at me... My hands were cuffed with enchanted silver, and my feet were bare. When my trial began, Felix turned out to be my judge. He was looking at me without a single ounce of affection. Then he read aloud the indictment, which stated that I was accused of attempted murder.I shouted that it wasn't me, that I was innocent, but no one listened, and no one believed me. Felix stared at me with disdain and sentenced me to death. I begged him to hear me out. I kneeled before him and cried, but he walked down from the podium, smiled darkly, and cut my throat…I woke up screaming. My eyes opened wide, and tears streamed down my cheeks. I pressed my hand to my chest, trying to stop my heart from bursting out of my chest. My entire body was covered in sweat, but I was shivering as if I was freezing in the middle of summer. The sudden knock on my door

NOVAI opened my eyes and found myself staring at the unfamiliar ceiling. I was lying on a bed covered in silver silk sheets, and this bed certainly wasn't my own. Cinnamon. Everything around smelled like cinnamon—a perfect mix of spicy and sweet. I lifted myself to sit and looked around. The room was brightly saturated by the sunlight falling from the floor-to-ceiling windows. The wall, ceiling, and floor color tones drifted from dark grey through dove-like shades to white, giving the impression that this place was impeccably clean. Suddenly, the door in front of me opened, and Asriel walked inside, carrying a glass of water. He was wearing a black shirt with an unbuttoned collar and rolled-up sleeves, and a pair of black pants. A few strands of his black ruffled hair fell on his forehead, filling me with an irresistible urge to comb them up with my fingers."You're awake." He smiled and handed me the glass of water. My lips curled up nervously. "H-how did I get here?"He sat on the

NOVAI couldn't sleep. I was lying in my bed with my eyes open, and I stared at my trembling palms. I hurt someone. My powers had always served to heal people, but for the first time in my life, I used magic to cause pain. I watched blood flowing from their mouths and the wide streams of red covering their fingers, and I felt no regret. They deserved it, and attacking them was the best kind of defense I could think of. Even so, deep in my mind, I felt that I had crossed a line I had never thought I'd cross.I wished I could have told Felix what happened. That lack of signal around the packhouse was pissing me off even more than before. I needed him to comfort me. I needed him to hug me and say that I hadn't done anything wrong. I needed him to tell me that we would be together again soon. I needed him...The stress must have drained me at some point because the next thing I knew, the alarm clock roughly pulled me out of my dreamless sleep. I rolled out of bed and forced myself to do m

NOVA One year later "You should have stayed in the packhouse, Luna Nova. You're pregnant. Alpha will kill me." Holden repeated those words for the fifth time while we were on our way to the Sky Town's construction site. I didn't break the promise I gave Felix—I wasn't driving, Holden was. "I'm fine. You're forgetting that I'm a witch with healing powers. I can feel when there's something wrong with the baby or me. And I go where I'm needed," I said, crossing my arms over my chest. "You're going to get me killed," he grunted, and I chuckled. Felix had been overprotective since he learned that I was pregnant two weeks ago. He had been freaking out ever since. I wasn't gravely ill, for Goddess's sake! Furthermore, I felt stronger than ever, and it was a perfect day for my magic to work. With the help of Harriet and Sadako, we created a replacement for the ancient talisman used to fill the jades. Now the witches I hired were using it to enhance their own magic and strengthen the grou

FELIXMate. That one word rang in my head, building the sweetest, most enticing sensation I had ever felt in my life. There was something pure and raw about it. It was this certainly—this absolute certainty—that I was looking at the one destined for me, the one whom I would love and worship for the rest of my days. It felt nothing like that fake fascination I felt for Lya. If I had known what it should have felt like, I would've never even touched her. Goddess made me wait for too long, testing me. Now I prayed that even if I had failed miserably before, Nova would give me a chance to prove that I was worthy of having her as my mate. She inhaled sharply and smiled at me. Her emeralds sparkled in the light of the moon. She was perfection—strong, beautiful, and caring. I wanted her to become my Luna, even tonight."S-so... what now?" She laughed nervously, and I could feel her trembling in my arms.I leaned over and softly kissed her lips. "Well, we can wait for our dinner or skip the r

  • I loved this Beta too much   Decision

NOVAA week passed since Felix carried me out of the mine, and the cheering crowd of warriors announced that the battle had come to an end. I had spent that week in the hospital, as had many others. I should have been the one healing them, but currently, I wasn't even able to heal myself. The ritual had taken a greater toll on me than I initially expected. All the rocks that had fallen on my body didn't help either. For the first time in my life, I had to be taken care of, and there was one person who immediately applied for the job—Felix. He had been here, by my bed, from the moment he had carried me into the hospital. He had been severely injured himself, but he refused to lie down. He said that he would heal while sitting by my side, and I seriously didn't know how I felt about it.I knew that all those things that he did—everything that hurt me—weren't entirely his fault. But even before he was under the fake mate-bond spell, he pushed me away. Besides, the fact that he spent the

FELIXHalf an hour earlierThe opening of a large tunnel leading to the jade mine was right in front of Asriel and me. We were wearing only pants to quicken the shift when necessary. We had killed the ten warriors guarding the entrance, and now there was finally no one standing in our way. We knew that Eric and Nova were inside and that, most likely, Maren was there as well. We informed our warriors where we were going, but we couldn't wait. Nova's life was at stake. We stormed into the dimly lit tunnel and rushed forward until we reached the point where it split into two sides. Asriel cursed, looking at the two nearly identical tunnels. "Where now?"I stood in the middle, closed my eyes, and drew a deep breath through my nose. "Left," I said.Asriel raised one eyebrow. "How do you know that?""I sensed a faint smell of magnolias. It's coming from the left side," I explained.Asriel frowned. "I don't smell anything."I smirked. "It's understandable. You cannot possibly know Nova's sce

NOVAThe last thing I remembered was Eric raising his fist and the pain on the back of my head that followed. When I opened my eyes, I was staring at the uneven wall, spiked with purple stones. The jade mine. I was lying in the center of another magic circle. I guess Eric had no time to prepare another cage, pair of cuffs, or chain for me. I gritted my teeth as I tried to stand up. My head still hurt, and I needed a moment before I balanced my unstable body.I looked around. The place where I was appeared to be the dead end of a mining corridor. This area had been carefully hollowed out, and the massive beams, formed in a very solid construction, enhanced the walls. A long line of cables went through the top of the wooden structure, supplying the row of weakly glowing light bulbs with electricity. There was only one exit, leading to a dark tunnel in front of me... I cursed under my breath. Even with my magic unrestrained by the circle, my chances to escape this place were practically

FELIXNova. She filled every corner of my mind as we were getting closer to the Crimson Mountain Pack's territory. I prayed that she was alive and unharmed, and once the darkest what-ifs flooded my mind, the rage followed. I was going to kill every fucker that caused her pain. Our combined armies were a little over a hundred people. The enemy had numerical superiority, but I dare say that the best warriors in our Werewolf Kingdom were on our side. Now, we could only hope that they weren't able to create too many jades fueled by magic. Otherwise, their numbers could truly cause a huge problem…It was fortunate that Tyrion made significant changes to the royal council, filling it with wise and open-minded men. There were no votes against the Moon Blade Pack engaging in our conflict, and they were all more than willing to hear the entire story, starting from the deal with Hecate. They all agreed that this matter had to be solved urgently, and so the alliance had been made.I wish I had m

NOVAAt the cost of several more witches' lives, another stone was created. Eric consumed it just as he did with the one filled by Cassandra. Tears couldn't stop falling down my cheeks. There were tears of pain—the pain of those who died—and anger. Once the ashes covered more than half the floor in the audience hall, Eric finally ordered, "Let's end this for today. I'm bored."And just like that, the hall was emptied, and I was brought back to my cell. The real reason why the witch-killing had ended was anything but the fact that Eric got bored. Aside from Maren and me, he could no longer sense the true, powerful magic within the remaining witches. I also heard him tell Einer that they would have to hunt for witches outside of the Crimson Mountain Pack's territory. They were prepared to exterminate the entire witch race just to gain more power.Someone had to stop them, but even with my full magic restored, I was no all-mighty superhero. I needed an army to fight with me, and I knew o

NOVA Ten minutes later, my cage had been brought to the hall and put down at Eric's feet. He clearly loved looking down on me. Asshole. Lya, on the other hand, wasn't fond of the way Eric's eyes landed on me ninety percent of the time, even if she did everything she could to draw his attention to her. The room filled with witches and warriors. Maren strode through the hall, offering me a dark grin. She then stopped beside Eric and Einer. "Unfortunately, we don't have a talisman that would make filling the jades much easier. We will use the strongest witches as vessels. They will drink the essence and use their bodies to transform the core's magic and then place it in the stone," she explained, looking at the gathered witches. One of the witches stepped forward. "B-but the essence... wouldn't it be poisonous?" Maren chuckled. "That was why I said that only the strong witches could do this." The one who asked nodded and stepped back. Then Maren added with a cold smirk, "However, I ne

  • I loved this Beta too much   Her hatred

NOVAThe smell of blood was ever-present. It was all over me, and I wasn't even allowed to wash it off. It sickened me, but nearly everyone seemed unbothered by it. A few minutes later, just like that, I was transported back to my cell. My whole body ached, and I started to develop claustrophobia from being locked in this freaking cage. The only good thing about being in this prison was that I was left alone and unguarded. That gave me the time I needed to slowly free myself from all the restraints. It took me a while, but I finally shifted to a sitting-kneeling position and straightened my back and neck a little. The amount of struggle it took was ridiculous, but I needed to find a more comfortable way to meditate and gather my magic. With the single crack on my cuffs, my senses could reach beyond the part of the corridor I saw. That way, my instincts would warn me of danger long before I'd see or hear it. I took a deep breath and looked at the metal, unwanted bracelets on my wrists.
