Ch 006: Making her my Girlfriend!

Annabel Wen, I didn’t raise you to be such a rascal.” Ann’s mom scolded her. Lea mistakenly spoke about the fact that everyone left the mall but Ann hid under dresses.

“Mom!” Ann cried as her mom kept pulling her ears. She was feeling pains but hehe, she was definitely going to punish Lea for spilling the beans. Lea knew fully well that she was in for trouble as Ann was being pulled by the ear.

“Mom, it’s not just me. Lea was in the mall with me when all these happened. She didn’t even tell me that everyone was walking out of the mall.”

'Oh boy I’m dead.’ Lea made a mental note and before she knew it, Ann’s mom used her other hand to pull Lea’s ears. Lea started to cry like Ann as the mother kept pulling their ears.

“You stubborn kids, we raised you better, Margaret and I and here you are, being stubborn and foolish. Did it even occur to you that there were security cameras around and they could have easily caught you.” She stopped pulling their ears and sat down on the chair. She looked at Lea, then at Ann who was still trying to rub the ear her mom just dragged. She wanted to cry but her mom warned her not to even cough.

Ann’s younger brothers began making mockery of her. They were identical twins, Josh and Jay, in full Joshua and Jeremiah Wen. They are 6 years younger than her, turned 14 the previous month. Lea hardly is able to identify who is Jay and who is Josh because of their striking resemblance while Ann knows fully well the difference between the two brothers which is quite funny because they have the same shape of heads, height, eyes, body size… the same ear size, and the same eyes. God really blessed these twins with almost no feature that is different in them, yet Ann could tell clearly, who was who.

“You should go to your room, dangerous twins.” That is how she called her junior brothers, the Dangerous twins because they everywhere they go, trouble follows.

“Ok mom, I’m sorry. At least they didn’t catch me.” Ann apologized and her mom sighed. Ann was being a small headache most of the times and with the twins, her day will be 5x a normal stressful day. She had to raise up the three on her own and it wasn’t as easy as she had thought.

However, Margaret her very good friend and Leah’s mom was always of great help. That’s why she always loved Lea and supported their friendship.

“Mom, I will be spending the night at Lea’s today.” Ann smiled wide ly as her mom groaned. This was a normal thing for her to get up one day and decide to spend the night with Lea. Another thing is, she didn’t want to just spend the night at Lea’s place. She wanted to go for a party and she knew her mom was going to refuse.

“What for?” Her mom asked her.

“Why do you want to spend the night at Lea’s place?” Her mom added. Finding a perfect lie to tell her mom would be difficult because she doesn’t know how to tell a lie especially not to her mother.

“Come on aunt, do you not want these two best friends to spend more time together? Lea chirped in and Ann sighed in relief, thanking God for Lea’s rapid intervention.

“No! It’s just that-

The looks on the girls’ faces softened her and she decided to let them go. Although she was scared that Lea and Ann were trying to look for trouble. But then again, the two girls have been nothing but sweet throughout, so maybe she is just overthinking it.

“Fine. But return home early. You are in the choir and I am in the ushering department, you do not want the church reprimanding us for late coming.” Ann just nodded in a smile, happy that her mom had accepted that she goes out.

“Don’t worry mom, will be back very early tomorrow morning. Its just that I and Lea needed to do some things and besides Brent will be with us. He is leaving so..”

“It’s ok. It’s ok. I get it. Just don’t delay, we have worm in church.” Her mom stood up to leave when she remembered something.

“Lea, when will you and your parents consider coming to church? I keep inviting Margaret but she keeps turning down my invitation.”

“Don’t worry ma. This Sunday my family and I will go to church.” However, Ann’s mom wasn’t the least convinced. She had known her friend for quite a long time and she knew Margaret and the family won’t even talk of a visit. They might be friends but the stain she had left for the world to see, especially her very good friend was a hindrance for Lea’s family to ever fellowship in the church.

     ***

A young man in his early twenties, combed his soft brown hair to the back of his head. He was humming to an unknown tune with a broad smile on his face, his eyes admiring himself on the mirror. Momentarily, the young lad will smile opening his teeth, pure white in color that if you looked closely, it will sparkle according to your imagination. His phone buzzed and he checked the color, reducing the smile a little. When he saw the caller ID, he smiled even the more and answered the call without hesitation.

“Crazy girl!”

“Brent!” The female voice shouted over the phone that he pushed his phone from his ear.

“Jeez don’t destroy my ears, Ann. So let me guess, you crazy girls lied to your mom and she believed the lie.”

“No she didn’t, silly! She just accepted because of you.” Brent blushed when Ann told him that. He was happy knowing that her mom could entrust her in his care.

“Ok. 6pm, will come pick you both from your house.” He added and after a few exchange of insults, he ended the call and kept his phone back on the table.

He looked at the upper drawer on his right and opened it, taking out a little box that made him blush the more in his smile. He looked at the box with so much admiration and then pressed open the box.

It was a ring with “B+A” engraved on it. He had always admired Ann from the very first day he set his eyes on her. She was beautiful, tall, crazy, the perfect definition if imperfection. Brent enjoyed being with her and Lea of course but he felt strong feelings of affection towards Ann.

When he found out he loved her, he was scared she was going to reject his offer but after yesterday evening, when he saw how she blushed real hard just after looking at him, he knew she somehow reciprocated the feelings towards him.

He took out the ring and smiled. The little diamond on it glowed as he twirled it in his fingers. “Tonight, I am asking Ann to be my girlfriend.”
