CHAPTER SEVENTY-TWO: Carter Won't Give an Easy Fight

This can’t be how it ends! Not for me!

With a subtle nod at my bodyguards, they spring into action, and chaos erupts instantly.

The police officers fight back valiantly, their hands scrambling for their guns, but they’re outnumbered and overpowered. Now subdued, they’re dragged away, their pleas for mercy falling on deaf ears.

I smirk as the handcuffs are removed from my wrists. “Don’t kill them yet. Just put them in the basement.”

I turn my attention to packing. I’m not running away—just regrouping until everything simmers down. I can't be in jail, because I’m Carter Whitlock, and my empire needs me.

Mom emerges from my bedroom door, her face etched with worry. “Carter, this is madness!”

I barely glance at her as I continue packing. “I know. But I promise I’ll come back smarter and more dangerous.”

Mom’s eyes glisten with unshed tears, but she can only watch as I hurry out of the room.

With fifty of my bodyguards, we ride in separate cars then drive away from my mansion.
