Zoe was half-drunk. Mason took her to the parking lot and opened the door of his car with one hand. He signaled for her to get in, but she refused. She was drunk, but she had not completely lost her senses. Leaning against the door, she raised her head and said in a husky, slurring voice, “I’m not going home with you, Mason! We’re getting a divorce!”He towered over her and glared at her with unmoving eyes. She was bewitching when she was drunk. He had never seen her like this. A champagne silk blouse and trumpet skirt were supposed to be elegant outfits, but they ended up bringing out her feminine charm.Every curve on her body seemed to be inviting men to caress and own her. Mason leaned into her ear and gritted his teeth, “Look at yourself. What part of you resembles a decent lady now?”Zoe raised her head and looked at him. Her eyes seemed to have cleared up a little, but became muddled again soon. Giving up on talking sense into her, Mason roughly shoved her into the car.
Holding her neck with one hand, Mason gripped the back of her with the other and pulled her toward him. Their foreheads were touching one another, and so were their noses and lips. His hot breath made Zoe tremble slightly. She was a little entranced. Deep down somewhere, however, she felt that something was not right. She should not be doing this with him. Just as he was completely turned on, Zoe leaned in and whispered in his ear, “When are we going to get divorced, Mason?”He stopped, pinched her tender cheeks, and forced her to look at him. Zoe’s face was red, giving her a touch of sultriness. She looked at him quietly and muttered unconsciously, “Do you want to know something, Mason? I don’t love you. Not anymore!”She repeated it several times. Mason was displeased. He pinched her chin and stared at her for a long time before uttering, “Do you think I care about that?” Indeed, he did not need to. He did not love her because they had gotten married for all the wrong reasons
It was dawn. Mason was the one who woke up first. It was too hot. His bathrobe was all wet from his sweat because he was holding something hot. Opening his eyes, he saw Zoe. Her face was abnormally red. She was burning up when he touched her cheeks! He rose immediately and went downstairs to relay orders to his servant. “Give Dr. Lionel a call and have him come here now.” The servant asked, “Are you feeling unwell, Mr. Mason?”He was already rushing back upstairs, but he stopped and said, “Just tell him to come here as soon as possible. Zoe is having a fever.”…Dr. Lionel arrived half an hour later. The servant had cleaned up the room and removed the last vestiges of last night’s incident. He examined Zoe and said, “She has quite a high fever. I suggest giving her a shot for it. Also, Ms. Zoe’s a little weak. She needs to pay closer attention to her nutritional intake.”That was all the doctor had said, but Mason knew the truth. Zoe had overworked herself and skipped meals re
There was love in Ava’s eyes when she looked at Mason. She tried to hit on him back in college. However, her love was worthless when there were so many wealthy ladies vying for him. She smiled lightly and spoke in a formal tone. “Perhaps Ms. Zoe should take over your personal matters now that she’s back. Does she still have to go through the procedure and register with me for the money and the jewelry?” Mason found what she said distasteful. It was exactly what Zoe talked about when she asked for a divorce. Ava took matters into her own hands when he did not give her an answer. “Leave it to me, Mr. Mason. I’ll see that it’s done.” Mason looked at her wordlessly. He was a normal person with a functioning brain. He could definitely sense it when a lady loved and wanted him. He paid it no mind because it had never affected his life in the past. It was obvious, however, that Ava had overstepped her boundaries. He thought deeply for a while before saying, “I’m sending you to our b
Zoe might have fought with him and wanted a divorce, but she would not do it at the cost of her health. What’s more, she was really hungry. The barley porridge was tasty and easy to swallow. She felt much better after eating a bowl of it. Mason leaned against the wall in front of the window. The dim light from the sky shone on his face, highlighting his handsome features. His neatly trimmed hair and sophisticated attire brought out his elegant charisma. He lit a cigarette but did not smoke it. Sticking his arm out the window, the evening wind scattered the wisp of smoke. There was a faint smell of tobacco in the bedroom that blended perfectly with his aura.He put out the cigarette when she had finished eating the porridge and looked at her, “Grandma called. She wanted to see you. What say you?” Barbara had always been nice to Zoe. She did not have the heart to break her spirit by telling her about their divorce. However, Barbara would find out about it eventually. It was just a
Zoe was slowly coming back to her senses. How could she let it happen? She pushed against him, ducked his kisses, and spoke in a charming, mature tone, “We can’t do this anymore, Mason.”How was he supposed to hold it back now?He pressed his lips on hers and said, “Why can’t we? We’re still a legally married couple.” She was right in his arms. He had held in his desires for a whole night. He was not going to let her go now.Deriving pleasure from her feminine body, he lowered his head and looked at Zoe who was melting at his touch. Every man was mean in a certain way. The more a lady begged, the more they wanted to tease them. Mason was no exception. He lifted her and pressed against her. Training his eyes on her, he said flirtatiously, “You said we can’t do it, but your body is far more honest than your mouth! I wish you could see the look on your face right now, Zoe. You look like such a slut!”Zoe was beyond mad. She said in a husky voice, “Look who’s talking!” With that, h
Zoe came to her senses and realized they were at the crossroads. They stopped in front of a traffic light. Pulling her hand away from Mason’s, she turned her face to the window and said coldly, “It was nothing!”He looked at her dejected face and felt a little disheartened. Images of the past coursed through his mind. He had married Zoe when she was just a twenty-year-old girl. She loved him deeply back then. She would rush downstairs and take his briefcase from him when he came back home from work. She would try to please him, tell him about what was on for dinner, and prepare the bathtub for him.He had always made a point to hurt her when they had sex. Slowly but surely, Zoe began to smile less frequently. She also stopped acting cute around him. It seemed that she had finally accepted the fact that he did not love her. None of her efforts meant anything to him. All she ever got in return was his cold shoulder. She was still thoughtful, but she was merely doing her duty as a
When Zoe went upstairs, Mia was not home. After giving her a call, Zoe found out that Mia did not call Mason. Zoe hung up the phone, speculating that the villa's servant had lied to help her escape. However, she did not dwell on it. It was a rare occasion that she didn't have work tonight, so she took a shower and went to bed early. In her dreams, she recalled her newlywed life with Mason. Yet, in the dream, Mason remained as indifferent as ever, his words filled with impatience. Her phone rang, waking her up. She saw a message from Mason with only a few words. "Don't forget to visit Grandma tomorrow. I'll wait for you at the Imperial Hotel after work." How could Zoe forget? Thinking of Lilith's extravagant fireworks, Zoe immediately accepted the transfer that Mason had included as a fee for her compliance. She donated it to the local animal shelter. At 1:00 AM, Mason's car stopped by the roadside. Leaning back, he scrolled his phone. He had sent Zoe a 3,000-dollar trans
