Elizabeth sat on her bed with her phone in her hands, it was a Saturday and she definitely wasn’t doing anything.
The birds sang outside her window reminding her that it was so early in the morning but that was the least of her worries at the moment.Elizabeth’s parents had just gone through a terrible divorce, for the first time in a long while the house was a bit quiet than usual, there were no argument from her parents, no one rushing outside or throwing objects.Of course, her Dad didn’t live with them anymore but she had an undeniable bond with him, she would have preferred they worked things out for her sake but once again they chose themselves and she was just a random piece of the puzzle. Her life for the pass few months after high school was definitely on screen, she found peace and a bit of joy. With her face still buried deep in her phone she heard a knock on the door, that was the first.“Lizzy Hun? Are you still in bed?” her mother asked from the other end of the door. Elizabeth for the past few months had only ever seen her Mom running off early to either court or work. What exactly did she want? She asked herself before finding the strength to lift herself from the bed.“No!” She replied opening the door.“Can I come in?” She asked with a smile. Elizabeth rolled her eyes giving a little nod as she proceeded to her bed dropping her phone to her side.“Hun your room, looks beautiful” she voiced not realizing when she had changed the decorations, Elizabeth couldn’t blame her, she had been absent for a while. She returned a smile.“I read somewhere that it’s good to change décor, that it improves positivity” she voiced with her eyes on her mother.Maria took a deep breath realizing she was missing in action all these while and hoping she could make up for it. She stared at her daughter and the words that were in her mouth seemed heavy.Maria didn’t know if it was the right time to discuss the issue she had on her mind.“Mom? You aren’t saying anything, I know you didn’t just come in my room to stare at me” she pointed out and she was absolutely correct, Maria definitely had something very important to say but unaware on how her daughter would react, she became hesitate.“Emm, Hun listen very carefully to me” she voiced as she picked Elizabeth’s hands in hers.“Okay?” Elizabeth replied as the atmosphere was giving off a weird vibe.Maria took a deep breath.“I know the divorce between your dad and I was a hard blow for you, not just you but for me as well.” She paused making sure Elizabeth was paying attention to every words she was saying.“Okay?” She replied wanting her to get it out already.“I have been spending time thinking and I have decided to move on.”The room went silent, Elizabeth could understand she needed to get her life back but wasn’t it too early to start dating?.“I guess it okay if you want to start dating” she spoke, breaking the awkward silence.“Urgh! That’s not it. I’m already kind of dating” she added.“what?”“And I’m getting married in a week” she added, waiting for the water to settle.Elizabeth immediately removed her hands from her mother’s, this had always been the case, she had no choice in anything and now she was supposed to be happy? She had no fuckin idea who the so called man her mom planned to spend the remaining part of her life with was to begin with and she was just to accept it.“You’re joking right? This better be a joke?” She voiced, trying so hard not to burst. A week, just a fuckin bloody week to the wedding?.“I’m serious Lizzy, I think it’s time to move on from everything that happened, I know it’s too sudden but… ““This is too sudden? Mom it’s stupid, you took your time to tell me this, doesn’t that bother you?” She asked as her voice began to increase and anger took over.“Don’t say that, we both need this” she pointed out.“I don’t need anything but a mother, where have you been all this while?” She asked.“I know I haven’t been around lately…”“Lately? You’ve never been around since Dad left, now you’re telling me you’re getting married in a week? ““You’re not the only one affected by your dad leaving okay, I was too. He was my everything and him leaving broke me, I couldn’t be in a place filled with his memories, reminding me about how he betrayed me” she explained looking at Elizabeth, hoping she would understand her more.“Dad never betrayed you, he left because you’re selfish, you only think about yourself!” She screamed. This wasn’t far from the truth.“No, that’s not true, I do everything I do just for you, don’t you ever call me selfish” she corrected.Elizabeth stood from her bed, she couldn’t stand her mother’s face anymore.“You’re selfish! The trip you made to Paris last year, whose good was it for, nobody but yours. The damn divorce who earns more from it? Oh let me answer that, you! Now this damn marriage it’s you! You have never once thought about me. Have you?” She asked“Lizzy!” She called out.“Don’t call my name, you’re a bad mother. You had no idea I changed my room décor, what kind of mother are you… “Elizabeth could feel a sting on her cheeks as Maria had given her a slap across the face without any hesitation.Elizabeth held her cheeks with her hands as tears streamed down her face.“You have no right to judge me, you locked me out of your life, your dad was all that mattered to you. You loved him more and it hurts me, You stopped talking to me and became cold towards me, what was I supposed to do?” She asked looking into Elizabeth eyes, Elizabeth was shocked by the slap.“Maybe you would have been a parent and reached out, maybe just maybe we would have saved our relationship Maria” she voiced.“Don’t you do that, everything I do is for you Lizzy” she said taking a step towards her but Lizzy backed away from her.“I want us to heal from this together, move on and start life afresh with a better option and this marriage is it” she explained.“You’re nothing but a liar, did you ever stop once, just once to think about how the hell I'll feel about it?” She asked but there was no reply from her mother.“Of course not, I don’t matter to you and that is why Dad would always be better, at least he listens to me, you couldn’t even keep your first marriage and now you want a new one.” She voiced with tears running down her face, wondering why the court decided to grant her mother custody.“Elizabeth!”“You know what, congratulations on your wedding, I would appreciate it if you leave my room right now” she spoke not wanting the conversation any longer.“This is my house, I want us to talk about this now” Maria voiced.Elizabeth let out a chuckle.“you’re right, it’s your house. How about your shove it down your throat!” she added, before grabbing her phone and jacket and rushing out.“Lizzy, get back here.” She yelled trying to stop her but to no avail“Elizabeth!!”Elizabeth could hear her phone ring right from where she laid but picking it up wasn't an option, she had been gone for the past 5 hours and she wasn't ready to talk to anyone just yet."She's calling again" Claudia voiced as she picked Elizabeth's phone in her hand, Claudia was Elizabeth's only friend, they happened to have met a few months prior to her parents divorce. Claudia was much older than Elizabeth and she was an orphan since she was 7.On hearing her words Elizabeth turned to the side as she could feel the fresh sting from the slap once again. "Come on, just answer the phone, I'm sure she's very worried about you" she spoke trying to convince her."She isn't the slightest bit worried about me, she's only calling because of the court and my dad, they are going to be on her throat" she replied, she could feel a depression on the other end of the bed, indicating that Claudia was on the bed.Claudia laid down beside her, with her face to the ceilings."I understand how you fee
Elizabeth stood in front of her house as her mom locked the door, it felt as though she was leaving behind her life she once knew, without saying a word she took a position in the front sit of the cab far from Maria. The ride to the airport was quick as there were no traffic, Elizabeth and her mom got checked in and within the next 30 minutes she was bidding farewell to her state. Her mother sat next to her but Elizabeth paid no attention to a word or anything her mother was saying, she wanted to change her sit but didn't want it to bring any issues as she didn't want to sit close to a stranger. Finding a solution to her problems immediately as she plugged in her earphones hoping that the flight could be over really quickly."Elizabeth!" She could hear her mother call out with a gentle nudge."Baby we are here" she whispered. Elizabeth opened her eyes and it wasn't a bad dream.New Orleans, the most talked place in Lizzy's high school, she was bombarded by stories of her friends and
Elizabeth was still celebrating her internal victory about her new discovery when Shakar took closer steps towards them both, his eyes seem to be everywhere around Maria’s body. His gaze made her feel uncomfortable and Lizzy could see it on Maria’s face, as she was confused and belittled. He let out a chuckle before turning towards his father.“Is this your new wife?” He asked“Shakar!” Mr. Louis voiced trying to get his son in order but from all indications Shakar didn’t give a fuck about anything his father was going to do to him.“What I’m trying to get acquainted with your new or should I say soon to be wife” he turned his attention to Maria once more.“So talk to me, are you his new replacement?”“Shakar, stop…..” “It’s alright babe” Maria spoke knowing Louis, he wouldn’t hesitate to put Shakar in line and she didn’t want any of that, she didn’t want to be the reason that Shakar and his father had a fight.“Yes Shakar, I am Maria, your new mother” she voiced with a smile, every
Elizabeth was a bit restless as she sat in her room, there were a lot of questions on her mind that her mother needed to answer but she had no idea where she could be in this huge mansion. As her mind ran through the possibilities of if she could remember exactly the way to Coco's room and if she did know she wasn't sure her mother was still there. There was a gentle knock on the door.Elizabeth didn't say a word as she waited."Lizzy? Hun? Are you in there?" Maria's voice rang through, Elizabeth couldn't help but be thankful for the miracle that had just occurred. She stood unto her feet and with one swift move she was already at the door, she opened it ushering her mother in. Maria was happy to she her daughter welcome her in such a matter."It's good to see you settling in pretty well" she voiced as she walked in while Lizzy closed the door behind."Yeah settling" she repeated, rolling her eyes."Do you love your new room? I made the decorations myself?" She asked with a smile as
Maria left Lizzy’s room with a heavy heart, She regretted raising her hand to her daughter. Lizzy was her baby, her daughter, yet it was as though they were strangers and Maria was beginning to get tired, they have never gotten into a reasonable conversation ever since the divorce and Maria wasn’t happy about it.She stared at her hands as she took a seat on the bed, was bringing Lizzy along with her a wrong move? She asked herself trying to get the clear picture or was she really a terrible mother. At the same time she felt bad for thinking the way she did but Lizzy wasn’t giving her much of a choice with her behaviour.“Mum!” A cute tiny voice spoke, Maria wasn’t aware of her presence until she spoke.“My love” she voiced gesturing for the little girl to come into her arms, which she did.“What’s the matter?” Maria asked“May I sleep with you and daddy tonight, I’m scared” “ Oh my princess there is no need to be scared” she encouraged hugging her tightly against her chest. Maria
Later that same evening, the house again sounded so lively as everyone had gotten back from their various business. Elizabeth stood in front of her window, her thoughts lingering on what had happened today, she thought long and hard and could blame no one but her mother.Elizabeth had already taken care of her wounds. She didn’t want to create a scene not after what happened between her and her mother. There was a knock on her door, Lizzy didn’t want to let anyone in, let alone see anyone but the second knock was followed by a tiny voice. She opened the door and there stood Coco with a bright smile, she found it hard to believe that she shared the same blood with Shakar. “Hey sweetie” Lizzy spoke politely returning her smile. “Mum asked me to fetch you, we went shopping why didn’t you come?” she asked observing her sister to be.“Well, I wasn’t feeling too good and I wanted to rest” she lied.“Are you sick? Y
12 November 2023 at exactly 12pm, Maria had her wedding gown in the mansion, it was the day she had been waiting for, she looked at herself in the mirror and a smile crept on her face, the gown fitted her just perfectly, it was from her favorite designer.“You look beautiful ma” the makeup artist spoke with a smile, indeed Maria was glowing.“Money can get you the very best but love brings out the glow and beauty” she replied still with her eyes on mirror.Meanwhile in Lizzy’s room, she was thinking of ways to escape the ceremony, she didn’t want to be part of it in any way. A knock on the door distracted her from her thoughts, she opened her door to see Coco standing in front of her in a beautiful pitch gown.“I couldn’t fix this” she spoke handing over her tiara to Elizabeth.“Oh come in let me see if I could fix it up” she replied with a smile to the sad child.“Mom bought that for me and I ruined it” she voiced as sadness took over her. “She’s going to be mad isn’t she?” she asked
Elizabeth stood with Shakar right in her face, she looked into his eyes and could see the angry written all over his expression. She didn’t want to start any form of argument, she wasn’t in the mood. Elizabeth slow backed away from him wanting to leave before a scene happened.“Your mother is nothing but a gold digger, looking for money like a cheap whore. That’s the only reason she wants to get married to my father isn’t it? Oh let’s not forget about the fame and power that comes with being a Manga, tempting” he spoke not minding what his words would do to Elizabeth. She couldn’t defend her mother either, she had no reason why she would quit her job and move all the way here just to get married, she would have said love but her mother was incapable of loving anyone but herself.“You know Mr. Louis, my father is nothing but a fucking cheat, he was the sole reason his wife, my mother died. You want to know why?” he asked turning away from her and walkin
Jace didn’t say a word, he wrapped his arms around her, hugging her and making her feel safe, he wished he could take away her pain because he hated seeing her this way. After a few minutes of consolation, Lizzy broke the bond between them; She returned to her curled-up position.“Elizabeth” he called out, he wasn’t sure what he would say to make her feel better, “I know you don’t want to talk but I want to know what’s wrong?” he spoke softly trying not to be pushy but Lizzy just stared at the floor, at this point she really needed to talk to someone about Shankar but Jace wasn’t the right person. What exactly was she going to say to him, that she allowed her brother kiss her or that she enjoyed every bit of it and wanted more or she was disappointed that he decided to play with her?“Talk to me, I’m listening” he reassured her.Lizzy was aware that he wasn’t going to stop asking until she tells him something. “I fell while coming out of the bathroom and some seniors saw and made fun
After Shankar walked out, Lizzy couldn’t find the strength to pick herself up from the ground where she had collapsed on, her tears ran nonstop, this was nobody’s but Maria’s fault; she wished she was old enough to pick who she could stay with. Lizzy was starting to miss her father, she needed him in her life at this point. Lizzy was suffering due to her mom’s selfishness, maybe It was better if only she wasn’t born, her mind voiced questions that she wished she could answer. She was too busy with her problems that she didn’t realize that a couple of girls were about to enter the restroom. Her thoughts were brought back to the room due to the sound of the door opening up, Lizzy stood to her feet almost immediately trying to hide in one of the stalls but it was already too late as the group of girls bust into the restroom giggling. The giggling stopped when they laid their eyes on her, Lizzy covered herself tightly wishing the ground could open up and just eat her up. “Look who we have
Elizabeth was battling with her mind but her body was betraying her making her wonder why? This wasn’t Jace but Shankar, the same person who was trying to make her life a living nightmare but here she was tongue tied together with him. Shankar’s hands started progressing down her face into her cleavage, somehow his fingers found their way into her shirt, and they brushed over her nipples.Elizabeth was shocked as she moaned, a smirk formed on Shankar’s lip as the kiss continued.Lizzy could feel herself wanting more of him, she pressed her body against his, they were both breathless but no one agreed to disconnect from the kiss, Lizzy wrapped her arms around him closing whatever space was left between them both. Shankar took the opportunity to start unbuttoning her shirt, leaving her bra and breast on display; Lizzy loved the feeling this was giving her but before anything else could register into her head Shankar pulled away from her causing her to whine missing the contract. He took
Elizabeth couldn’t believe what had just taken place the previous night, Shankar was always an asshole to her but yesterday was different. “Elizabeth, your phone is ringing” Coco voiced bringing Lizzy from her thoughts, although it was the weekend her friends kept calling as they heard about Coco. “Hey Lizzy, guess where we are?” Caro sounded excited on the phone. “At home?” “No dummy, we are outside the hospital” Caro informed. “What? Didn’t I tell you guys not to bother” Lizzy voiced “Bitch would you come get us already or do you want me to burst through the door and give you a good beating? – It’s hot out here” Kyle’s voice could be heard in the background, his words caused Lizzy to laugh. “Coco I’ll be back. I need to get my friends” she spoke before walking out of the room, she made her way towards the entrance, she could see them standing. Caro had a bouquet of flower along with a get-well fruit basket and Kyle had a
Elizabeth struggled to pry herself away from Shakar’s grip but he tightened his pressure on her. She didn’t have the strength for his nuisance, she already heard a little of his brainless argument with Jace, he was here again dragging baseless argument at her feet, He was a spoilt brat to Elizabeth; It wasn’t as though any of them wished for their current situation but it seemed she would never meet eye to eye with him on anything even if they were both profiting.“Let me go Shakar” she gritted her teeth in anger but he only fastened his grip on her arm.“You whore; I know you attempt once again to take Coco out of the way. So, what are you up to now? What’s your plan you beggar!”Elizabeth tried to control her movement; she tried to remain calm so as not to disturb Coco who was currently under the influence of pain relievers.“Stop fooling around and let go of me” Elizabeth meant that more as a plea although she wouldn’t show her panic before her headache of a step brother, he was gi
The morning at the ICU was a lot quiet with Coco fast asleep, Maria had stayed overnight with the little girl, She had however headed back home that morning to freshen up and get change of clothes for Elizabeth, Louis had also taken the time to be with his daughter the previous night although he had a strategic meeting the following day, Maria had urged him to get some rest so he had left that night with Shakar.Elizabeth laid her head at the corner of the bed, she had drawn a single chair over to Coco, a little blanket rested on her leg, and she took some hair away from Coco’s face, taking her hand to feel the bandage that would be getting a new dressing in a few hours by the nurse. The little girl had lost a lot of blood and was gradually increasing her count that would guarantee a discharge, although Coco didn’t voice out her discomfort, Elizabeth could tell that she didn’t exactly like being strapped to wires in a room that smelled like citrus scented cleaning solution, bleach and
“Up” Jace commanded as he came to his feet, hands stretched to take her hand, she looked to him weakly before pulling up. Jace lifted his brows staring at his hand which had been ignored, with a smile, he led the way out the lounge.Soon they got into the vehicle and he drove her over to the hospital, the car took a stop and he turned to Elizabeth who stared wide eyed at the glowing white interior, she was uncertain if she could bring herself to face her mother again and what worse finding out some other bad news about Coco.Maria persistence with it been her fault made her feel even worse.“Elizabeth…” Jace noticed her reluctance to leave before she could catch the obvious stalling. She quickly took her gaze to him; she couldn’t voice out the words in her head. “hmm” she made the distracted sound, Jace looked away from her and over to the beckoning doors.“Let’s go” he spo
Elizabeth could feel her heart squeeze with guilt as she ran outside the hospital building. In her head she questioned herself why did that happen; would Coco be ok? She had only been away a few minutes, a few minutes… Lizzy wondered what would have happened if she has decided to stay back with her baby sister. Why did her phone even ring, if only she had taken it down with her. The picture of Coco lying lifeless on the ground flashed through her thoughts, she could still hear the thud and the horrid ringing of her mobile.“Coc...." the word were caught off by the endless emotions that overwhelmed her.Elizabeth ran into the cold night, hot tears streaming down her cheeks, eyes on the floor, a grave blur. She hated that she was in that situation, she hated Maria more, she had to moved them to the polished mansion, much like a hotel without caution signs. She felt the ground was all thin ice, wondering ‘would anything get easier?’ they were barely 2 months there and someone was alre
Elizabeth couldn't believe her eyes as she stared at Coco lying on the floor, her legs made their way to her body.'"Coco!" She cried, falling to her knees by the little girl."Help!" She screamed, everything around felt unreal. A rush of emotions hit her, as well as a lot of questions, was she dead? "Please Coco" she whispered under her breath as she knelt down beside her sister."Help!!" She screamed at the top of her lungs. Her voice echoed across the room but nobody came to her aid, It suddenly felt like the whole house was empty."Help me please" she cried as tears rolled down her face. She carried Coco in her arms as she raced outside, she had no idea what else to do but she knew Coco had to get to the hospital and fast.Elizabeth was barely outside the door when she felt like she ran into something hard yet soft."Coco?" She could here Louis worried voice Not minding what was going on and how it happened, Louis grabbed his daughter and hurriedly got to the car. Maria and Lizzy
