The Phonecall

When I saw it was Jake calling, I didn't hesitate to pick the call. I swipe the green button of my phone and place the phone in my ear, grinning.

"Hello Denise" He said and listening to his voice made me smile. "Hi Jake" I said with a blushing smile, and Bella, whose eyes were fixed on the TV, looked at me immediately I mentioned Jake's name.

"Where are you?" He asked me. "I'm at Bella's place" I answered him, still having this blushing smile on my face, only the heavens can testify how much I love Jake and I know he loves me just the same.

"Can we meet up, I missed you" He said and that made my heart jump for joy. "Sure. Where do you want us to meet?" I asked him.

"At the usual Restaurant we always eat at, I'll be waiting for you," He said and ended the call, and after he disconnected the call, I faced Bella with a smile.

"I'm meeting up with Jake," I said to her, but she gave me a plain look and continued watching Kendell Jenner on TV.

Bella doesn't actually like Jake, I don't know why, because I found nothing wrong with Jake. He might not be the most handsome man on earth, but at least he falls in the category of average handsome men.

He's a lawyer who has won so many cases, and I admire him for that. Why Bella didn't like him was something I couldn't figure out yet.

I remembered when I first told her I accepted Jake's proposal of being his girlfriend, Bella didn't talk to me for days because of it.

She warned me not to accept his proposal of being his girlfriend, but I went ahead and accepted him and that was why she was mad at me, but how can I not accept Jake when I'm in love with him.

I made her understand that I love him, and that was when she started talking to me, but anytime I talked about Jake in her present, she always played a deaf ear or ignored me, just like how she is doing now.

"Bella" I called her name.

"I love this new outfit of Jenner" She said and I knew she was ignoring me on purpose.

"Jake is a nice man Bella, he's not bad like you think" I said and Bella looked at me.

"Really? You think so?" She asked and shook her head.

"Yes he is. Stop giving him the benefit of the doubts. He understands me very well Bella and he said he's ready to wait till we get married before he can have sex with me, isn't that one of the attributes of a good man?" I asked her.

"I'm sure your so-called boyfriend is waiting for you, so go-ahead before he thinks I'm trying to bad-mouth him," Bella said.

I didn't want to argue with Bella about Jake, so I picked up my canvas tote bag from the floor and hung it on my shoulder.

"I'm leaving" I said, and Bella only nodded her head with her eyes glued to the TV. I took in my lower lips before leaving the house.

I dashed into the road, looking at the time and it was already 2pm and I smiled. "I have a lot of time to be with him, before my work at the restaurant begins" I said to myself.

The restaurant I will be meeting up with Jake, wasn't that far, so there was no need to take my bicycle with me. I trekked to the restaurant and within a few minutes, I was already there at the restaurant.

I saw Jake resting his back on his car, obviously waiting for me. I gave out a smile, before going to him.

"Jake" I said, and he turned his face to look at me and I flashed a smile at him.

He walks closer to me, taking my hand. "I'm sorry I wasn't able to call you for a while now. I was busy with so many cases" Jake explained himself to me, and I smiled.

"I understand Jake" I said.

"Let's go in" He said, beaming a smile at me, and we both entered the restaurant to eat.

The restaurant was our usual spot where I and Jake always meet, and the employees know us to be a regular here in the restaurant.

I and Jake sat in one of the chairs inside the restaurant. There were a few other couples apart from us who came to the restaurant to eat.

We placed our orders and within a second our orders were brought to the table. "Go ahead and eat Denise," Jake said to me, smiling.

I smiled back at him, and began to eat just like he was doing. We were both eating silently when I spotted a couple at the extreme of the restaurant.

The man was introducing his girlfriend to his parents and they seemed to like her.

I smiled and looked at Jake. "When are you going to introduce me to your family?" I asked.

Jake drops his cutleries and looks at me. "I thought I told you it is not yet time to meet my uncle" He said.

And the smile on my face disappeared. Jake and I have been dating for two years now, and I haven't seen any members of his family.

He told me his parents were dead, that he only has an uncle, but anytime I brought up the idea of meeting his uncle he always tells me it wasn't time yet.

Even my mom doesn't know him, although she knows I have a boyfriend, but not once has she met Jake.

Is not actually my fault, because anytime I invite Jake over to my house, he always creates an excuse that he is busy.

If he really loves me like he claims, why then is he avoiding meeting my family or me meeting with his family, even though he has only an Uncle?

But I don't want to doubt him, because I know he loves me. He was restricted from touching me because I said he should wait until we get married, and he agreed to it, that's enough evidence that he loves me, and with that thought I smiled.

"Alright if you say so," I said and continued eating.

"I'll just use the restroom," He said, dropping his phone on the table. He left for the restroom and I continue eating, then his phone rang.

I looked at the caller, but no name was written on it, so I dropped it, expecting him to come back and answer the phone, because I know it is wrong to answer someone's phone even if he's my boyfriend.

The call came again and it was the same number that called. I took Jake's phone anticipating whether I should answer the phone or not.

"What if the call is important and needs to be answered?" My subconscious mind said and with that thought, I picked the call, placing it in my ear.

"Hello Jake, I missed you" Came the voice of a woman and my eyes went wide open.
