"What?" Lucian scrunchies up his face, obviously not expecting my reply.

"Hazel, are you okay?" he askes me and I nod my head, scared that if I speak I would break down in tears.

"Look at me, Hazel!" he raises my chin with his finger, "You..you want me to get married to Cassie?"

I put up a good front, "Yes, Lucian. It is the only way the Pack can be safe."

"No," he says firmly, anger evident in his eyes, "This is not about the Pack, Hazel. I don't have to marry someone I do not love and hurt my mate just to save the Pack! There is always a way we can go about this."

"We don't have time to figure out the way, Lucian. You won't be hurting me either by getting married to Cassie," my voice is low as I speak, "I understand that you're doing it for the safety of the-"

He grabs my arm suddenly and holds me to his chest.

"I told you, Hazel," his warm breath fanned my neck, "If you don't want me to marry her I will not."
